  • Quick Review of Voidblazers for Playdate by tkers and cookiejazzie. A mini masterpiece blending a solid 2D top-down shooter with a beautifully realized narrative, refreshing protagonists and a cast of entertaining, inter-connected alien races. This is all presented with technical panache and superb music.
    $6 well spent: tkers.itch.io/...

    Hey, really, great reviews here.
Just purchased my Playdate recently and can't wait to receive it.
Just wanted to know since you have been using it for a while. How is the cranks' performance after using it for many games? Is it loose or moving from tilting the device? Or is it durable enough? What about battery consuming or charging time.

Battery I don't even think about! No worries there. I've been using the device for almost two years - really using it! Lots of gaming, reviews etc. The crank is a little looser but input is accurate. A very small hairline crack has also appeared, again, no impact on input. It's a plastic toy, I've played it hard for a while so I'm not totally surprised! Thanks for the comment and Happy Gaming.

@PlaydatePlayer Thanks for the great reply!
Hmm, so it seems durable device and has a good quality. Just didn't understand that the hairline cracked you mentioned. You meant damage to your Playdate from overusing?
The part where you mention that even its loose but input is accurate in the games is very important for me 💎

@@saudsqually Just know its a toy made of plastic and will fail eventually. It's well made, well designed and work perfectly after two years. Your experience may differ depend on use.

ha. Yes, I think the dev may have said that somewhere. It gets pretty hairy at times though :)

Sorry for being off topic, but I really like how you've put it all together.
You know what to say so much that I suspect that there was a script, but at the same time I don't seem to notice anything that would indicate the use of audio cuts and merges too much.(seemingly only as a transition to another section of the video?)
Then if that's the case I'm still impressed how clearly you speak without editing tricks for such long segments. I'd say something about good memory, but you've probably only used some bullet points as for what to say? Or was it fully improvised?(which would be very impressive to me)
I'm really interested in "behind the scenes" details of it.
I also aspire to use my voice as proficiently as you use yours.

What a great comment! Thank you. You’re giving me too much credit. So. This channel is purely a fun thing. I want a hobby not a headache, so it’s fast and loose. With this particular game I was blown away and put a lot more effort and time into the review than I usually do. Behind the scene - I play the game as much as time and desire dictates. I use mirror to record my playing. I pointedly wanted to make a channel that only showed the game play but had a human voice - not some awful AI thing. I edit the video bit so it’s not boring and hopefully, I can show a good bit of the game without any spoilers. I then do the voice over. For this one (and many others on the channel) I’ll bullet point the basics: graphics, sound, controls, gameplay and just what I subjectively think about it. Like reviewing music. So I’m not a “technical” reviewer. With the bullet points in hand I will walk around my house doing chores, cooking or whatever, and I talk to myself. I know that sounds a bit mental, but that’s what I do. Once I think I have a basic flow together I’ll record over the video. I have one piece of paper in front to aid my (terrible) memory; dev names, level set up etc. Then I try and do it in one take. I’m pretty lazy so I don’t want to craft all this for hours, so I just do it. I then edit out all the times I say the word “really” which is all the damn time ha ha. That’s it. Otherwise, I’m an old fella and I’ve done a bunch of professional presenting and what not, so I’ve had a lot of practice. I also love watching game review channels so I listen to them and hopefully learn. So there you go :) Thanks again, great question and I’m so happy that you enjoy the content. As I say, there is no professional agenda or commercial aim, I just want to make the kind of videos I would like to see.

@@PlaydatePlayer It's a bit slower than I want, summer and basic work take time, I think the release will be close to the end of October, and I'd want not to miss that summer also))

@@PlaydatePlayer maybe I'll release something with a lower scope earlier, like a small platformer, Thunder Wings seems to have more scope than Skyward Battles now, the idea is growing))

@@crankworkgames I have massive respect for you and other developers, I've failed to get my head around coding my entire life :) As Nintendo say, better to take your time than release a game you're not 100% happy with.

Voidblazers dev here, hi !! The game uses the D-pad + A and B buttons. It doesn’t use the crank. :-)

Hello mate, you’ve just put a comment on my video and took it off. I did interview the counter protesters. It’s in the video released on Thursday 👍🏻

It was "off brand" for me. Nothing personal - I'll look forward to your next video. EDIT - watched the west road counter protest vid which works well with the previous vid, nice balance,. Good to see the strength of positivity and normal folk just saying no to violence and stupidity. Rest, I'm off to watch Blot Outdoors now :)

This is just sad. Just download a gameboy emulator on your phone ffs. Such a pointless device.
