my grandpa passed away one year ago and today i found this camera at his house! my mom told me it belonged to her when she was 15, back in the 70s. thank you so much for this video! it helped me to understand how to use it. cheers from Argentina!
I don't know if you understand how important your video was for me when we cleaned my Grandma's apartment out I found the same same camera and I who left take pictures kept it as a souvenir for her and was hoping that I could find a way to use it again and thanks to your video and your links I was able to buy the Necessities I need for the camera thank you again for taking your time to show us all about this wonderful camera
I've been binging on your videos for the past few days. This morning I found an SX-70 for sale for 80 euros in MINT condition,...it's like it was never used. the leather has NO scratches on it .. I'm in love with the design

Thank you so much for this! I've had my mum's old Polaroid SX-70 sitting in a box for ages, now that I'm moving homes I thought I'd do some research to figure out whether to keep, sell or throw it away. Now I know once I'm done with everything I'm taking this baby out for a proper stroll through the city! Can't wait!! 😁
Cool. Thanks for the video. I just received a mid 1970’s SX-70. So much mojo. I too had a bit of a struggle opening first time. That’s what brought me here. 👍🏻
I love the look of the SX70 as well as most of the abilities of them, I have been using many of them since the 70s ... my favoirte one in the sonnar version ... at 62 the autofocus helps!!!
Great video, Marco!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I got my SX-70 two weeks ago and I am very excited. The opacity issues are very frustrating. The rollers are very clean so, I know it is not the camera. I am shooting with film from March 2019, sent directly by Polaroid Originals. My last cartridge had only one with the white streaks. So I am improving on covering the sheets. Still it is frustrating to have so an unstable product compared to Instax.
Good demonstration. My husband worked for Poloroid years ago. I have the SX 70 Sonar with autofocus. Thanks for helping me use the camera. I am clueless.
Just watched your video and very glad I did. We inherited one in mint condition and my son and I found your video so informative. All the info on functions and accessories was great! Thank you for your time and a great presentation of this little gem. 👍
I just got one of these on eBay for $44.00 U.S. It was one of the few on eBay that had a Buy It Now option. I was taking some photos of the Fall Foliage here in Massachusetts. I love using the SX-70 cameras Outdoors. It's one of the early models that doesn't have a place for a camera strap.
Excellent. I used my SX-70 Autofocus in the 1980s while doing Voluntary Service Overseas. It made me lots of friends! It takes Polaroid 600 film by cutting off a tab on the cartridge, plus a neutral density filter over the lens. No gain in shutter speed, though I preferred the colour, and time exposures with a tripod indoors worked, without the ND filter. It has a separate hammerhead type electronic flash, which is nice for fill-in or kicker lighting, with a handkerchief over it.
I found my grandfather's SX-70 about 30 minutes ago in a closet, didn't know what I was looking at at first. was pleased to learn they still make the film for this camera. it's practically in mint condition
When you removed the film cartridge at 5:30, did the remaining pictures got exposed to light or the cartridge still keeps them sealed ? From my memory the 600 cartridge should not be removed from the camera once inserted (once the dark slide comes out) until you finished all pictures, otherwise the remaining pictures get exposed to ambient light and are lost. Once way to transfer a cartridge into another camere before it's finished would be to do this inside a dark room, but it's not guaranteed the second camera will properly operate the transferred cartridge because it has no dark slide to eject - it may or may not work
I'm curious about this also. I'm assuming you can't switch cartridges halfway through shooting (say I have a few sheets of color left and I want to switch to B&W) without exposing the rest of the film in the used cartridge? I wonder if there's a way to re-insert the darkslide so you can remove the cartridge in a changing bag or darkroom and then use it again later
@@roberthandel6534 I doubt the dark slide can be placed back in a dark room - perhaps may try placing it back when the cartridge is empty, in a room with light see if it works. Otherwise, not sure the second camera will operate properly because it will try to push out the dark side, I wonder too what will it do if it doesn't 'feel' a dark slide. Maybe it will work, but not sure. Perhaps the easier is to transfer the cartridge when there's only 2 pictures left, see if it works, if it doesn't work you loose only two pictures - I would have at least two pictures because the camera may try to eject one of them thinking it's the dark slide, so can shoot the remaining one, see if it works
I wish you were not as greasy. But it was very helpful. I inherited an immaculate sx-70 and I wanted to sell it. Thanks to you, I’ll keep it. It’s a marvel and a treasure.
Thank you so much for this video. I have acquired an sx-70 which seems to have only been used a few times and is in mint condition except for some of the leather adhesive which I can fix (leather itself is perfect!). Your video provided me with some really great info. Happy shooting.
I like that new flash. I have an original electronic flash for mine and it is huge. The electronics pack attaches to the bottom of the camera. The strobe attaches to the sonar and is connected to the electronics pack by a cable.
those were sold as refurbished by the modern polaroid the old polaroid company went bankrupt and bought out and after a while of making cheap electronics the polaroid group now makes film again along with some new cameras but these and polaroid 600s and other type of old polaroid's will not be made again
What is the best way to clean the glass inside the camera above the film cartridge? I picked up my SX 70 at a yard sale for $7 and I loved using it when the original film and flash bars were available. Good to know there is an electronic flash available. I still have one of the original flash bars. I would carry it in my back pocket and occasionally use it to meet girls! It was always a hit.
I have a camera going back to the 1970’s. When the film got hard to find I shelved the camera. I took a look at it once I saw your web site and searched online (in Europe) for a vender. I ordered a film pack (only one) because I was fearful the white powder coating the tan colored leather might have harmed the camera. It tasted slightly acidic to me, like vitamin C, just a little acidic. How do I clean this white powder off?
Very informative, thank-you. Have an old one I haven't used, but the very sad and diappointing results of commercial inkjet printing of colour film is motivating me to start with Polaroid..
Just found your channel, lovely stuff! Enjoy your presentation style and content and I'll be looking through more of your videos. Thanks for sharing :)
Hi! Thank you for your very helpful videos! You honestly got me into Polaroid and now I'm currently obsessed with instant cameras! I recently got my hand on a sx70 and wondering where you got the sonar attachment? I am only able to find sx70 sonars and don't see the attachment on it's own. Pls let me know! Thanks so much! 🎥🎞
I just got an original SX-70! My grandparents did not realize what they were sitting on. Unfortunately mine is the Land Camera Model 3, so it doesn’t have the mirrors to view through the lense.
Hi Marco Thanks for the video’s, it really helps me discover my camera… unfortunately I have a problem and already use a hole pack of film trying to resolve this problem. what to do if the polaroidfilm gets jammed in de camera. The black shield gets easily out, also the next polaroid after open and closing. But if I take a foto it gets stuk… heeelllp🙈
Very insightful video. Thanks. Just a question if anyone knows the answer - I am just using the camera for the first time and when inserting the film it seems to go in all the way, but then nothing. No black card comes out and the shutter button does nothing. Do you think this is a film problem or a camera problem?
@10:10 in the video, please be aware that there are after-market electronic flashbars made by MINT and other parties. I own a couple of them, and they work as designed.
Thanks for the information. I’m looking to get into SX-70 film. I’ll be getting a Wizard 1000 (truthfully I’m hopefully garnering myself a 1500 with the built in flash, but either are ok), this was really helpful and adds some ease to trying new Polaroid film. Thanks again!
Thank you for this video! I would be interested in how to get proper exposure. You mention f8 but what is the time range? Do you point the camera/exposure meter at your subject and it reads 18% Grey? Then you adjust the lighter darker control and just guess? Does that controller change time or f stop? 🤔
Gaaaah I don’t now which one I should buy. Been looking for some Fuji’s and Polaroid’s and it’s just too much, too many to choose from. Which would you recommend?
I think I will buy either a sx-70 sonar or a slr-680. What do you think is a better value? Do you think it is worth double the price for a camera that uses 600 film?
Great video. Can you swap the films out midway through them? I.e. could I swap out a colour cartridge for a black and white one and then up the colour one back in to continue shooting?
You can if you use a changing bag, I guess. But if you take out the cartridge midway through you'll surely burn one picture and most likely damage the others with light leaks
Hi great video, just got one recently, could you share some tips on scanning? I went to local store and the result was disappointing, the colour was quite "off". Thank you!
Hi, thanks for the video! I just wonder if my sx70 is broken: after pressing the yellow button on the side, the front falls open as in the video. But I can't close it. It won't stay closed... I have no film cartridge to test if it stays closed when a film is inserted. Is it damaged?
I recently got two of these for free. Unfortunately the view finder mirrors fell out of place on both of them so you can't see anything.. I'm going to attempt to fix them.
I have got a question about models. I heard the Land Camera Model 1 is really popular and expensive one since it has metal body (or by the look of it at least). The Model 2 had plastic body and the Model 3 was the cheapest version. But I see you have the Alpha Model 1 with you which has the metal body again. How do you compare it to the Alpha Model 1 to the classic Model 1? Aside from tripod stand and meter-ring are there any quality differences?
It probably still will jam. The company that produces the current poloroid film could not effectively back engineer it. This company bought the poloroid name, but not the processes to actually make the film, hence why their current product is inferior to that of the old stuff (The black and white is pretty good though). They are always working on it though, so one day they may get it right.
Hi and thanks for the interesting video. I just go an SX-70 Sonar as part of a convolut of analog cameras I bought. I must confess I had a lot of cameras in hand but never a Polaroid. So I struggled opening it at first :-D. But one more question: Did I understand right, that the battery comes with the film and is not inserted to the camera body? Thx and best regards from Switzerland
Is there an on/off switch? I just got an old SX-70 from my sister who rarely uses it. It is the same exact model as the one you are displaying. As far as getting film for this camera, where do I get it? Can you use 600 film for this? Does the focusing work well? and about the exposure adjustment, is this very critical and where do you general put it at for outdoor pictures?
Is there some way to get autofocus for the first model version for the sx 70, like the module itself or is it only exclusive to the Sonar version of the camera?
Thank you for your review! Can you help with advise please? Does the SX-70 film have the same terrible white splashes and stains, as 600 film? I want to buy SX-70 but I want just natural colors and good contrast.
Hello, I really like this video, many thanks. I am trying to decide between the SX-70 with and without the autofocus. could you please tell me what is the difference to help me to decice from one or the other? many thanks
as you wrote the only difference is the autofocus, with the regular sx-70 you have the focus assist with split image, thats missing on the autofocus version but you can stil turn off the autofocus and use manual focusing
Hi Mark! I love Polaroid cameras and I’m looking for a sx70 land camera but online it is sold for incredible prices. What’s a honest price to buy it in your opinion?
I got the sx-70 on eBay and the first 2 shots the camera was fine, press the button it would take a picture no problems. but now when i press the button the viewfinder goes black and stays like that for a few seconds then flips back up and spits the picture out. could it be a low battery, or is it a camera problem? Thank you.
hey i have bought a sx 70 model 2. and have shot 3 movies with it. but my pictures are super yellow in it ?? What can I go for it does not get so yellow. I have to use polaroid 160x color film
Thanks! Re-learning all this from 15 years ago. Ok so remind me, if I pull the film pack out after the dark slide has been pushed out will I expose the top film? I have 2 cameras and wanted to test them out for a class but only have one film pack right now.
Hey, hi. Thanks for the instructions. So i will keep my eyes open for a Sx 70 :) I never used a polaroid. But i must say this one looks so great and easy to use. :D Yes, I already saw your great video about changing the fabric.
Hey there, love your channel. I have a question about an SX-70 I've had for a while now. It's been sitting in my closet for a little more than a year with no film inside of it. Long story short, the camera only works properly when I push the metal arm back (as if I were going to close the camera). It appears that when the arm is locked in place, the camera does not work properly (the shutter button causes shutter to open and close but never ejects a picture). I was wondering if you knew how to fix it?
Great info!! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I happened to stumble upon an original sx70 and the yellow piece that holds the front in place is broken so it is permanently open unless I hold it secure. Is there any way to fix this or is holding it while taking a picture enough? I have successfully taken one or two pictures with it ages ago but I would rather fix it if I can. Thanks again!!
it's not that easy to fix, i have one camera with the same problem here, if i fix it i will make a video about it. you should be fine with holding it up, just look that you dont cover the front.
Hello, great video, i'm waiting my folding sx-70 now! But I have a sx-70 (one step) and i have a question. There is film pack inside with 4 film but i have to clean the rolls. Can i open it to clean without ruin the films? Or the top one will get light? Thx!
Love the video man! Question, sounds stupid but I cleaned my rollers to good and now the picture won't come out anymore.. what can I do to fix it? I read that the rollers are kind of sticky or something? Anyway, Thumps up!
Great video again! I picked up an old Polaroid One step close up yesterday for $5 and an SX-70 sonar today for $20. Going to order film tonight so I can try them out. Somewhere in my vast hoarder collection I have a Land Camera 101. Darned if I can find it though LOL.
I used to watch this video all the time before I got one and now that I have one I’m still watching this video all the time 😆.
Same 😂
Same
Do you like it? I wanna get one but it’s expensive. Is it worth it?
@@natechotravels9300 if you can find a working and nice condition one then I’d definitely recommend picking it up. I love mine and happy I got it.

Isamar Martinez they are worth $300 plus you got a great deal 😃
That’s a great deal! Holy crap!
Isamar Martinez Wowwwww cause this thing is $430

I Bought some film from the link! Tried it on my sx-70, It works!!! \(^-^)/
Love it so much! ♥︎

Can u do a video on spectra film and why It got discontinued? I just bought Spectra Pro Cam and its one that doesnt jam like the others. Im so sad!!
I still see film on their site. Sometimes it’s out of stock but I usually stock up when it pops up!
These use a flash bar. Not sure if they are still available
How do I clean it? I have one I found in storage from my grandparents. It works but the photos are very blurry and it seems dusty
So the red button is gone on mine to take photos, is there still a way to take photos or is it just not possible
How does the motor run? Does it need batteries? I just loaded film in my mom's old SX70 & nothing happened. Any advice?
So I got one of these a long time ago but it's a little damaged and I can't see through the viewfinder. Is there something I'm missing?
Is there some way to get autofocus for the first model version for the sx 70, like the module itself or is it only exclusive to the Sonar version of the camera?
Were is the power supply? Do I need a batterie? Can you answer me this question? Thank you
Thank you for your review!
My focus knob doesn't turn are there any fixes for this problem?
Great video, thank you! I was wondering, is the SX-70 Sonar usable indoors with the flash? Which film is better indoors, 600 or SX-70?
Does this thing have batteries or something? I have one but it doesn’t send film out of it.
I got the sx-70 on eBay and the first 2 shots the camera was fine, press the button it would take a picture no problems. but now when i press the button the viewfinder goes black and stays like that for a few seconds then flips back up and spits the picture out. could it be a low battery, or is it a camera problem? Thank you.
that sounds like it's just exposing pretty long, have you been in a dark environment?
I tried it indoor then I saw the back film it’s like white paint and then I clean roller too.
yeah, indoor is pretty hard with sx-70 it could just be that the exposure time was that long
Thank you!! I’ll try outdoor next time! Love your videos!
hey i have bought a sx 70 model 2. and have shot 3 movies with it. but my pictures are super yellow in it ?? What can I go for it does not get so yellow. I have to use polaroid 160x color film
Thanks! Re-learning all this from 15 years ago. Ok so remind me, if I pull the film pack out after the dark slide has been pushed out will I expose the top film? I have 2 cameras and wanted to test them out for a class but only have one film pack right now.
yeah, you need to put the darkslide or a image on top of the pack to not loose one
Analog Things also is it possibly to do these emulsion transfers with 600 film?
Hey, hi. Thanks for the instructions. So i will keep my eyes open for a Sx 70 :)
I never used a polaroid. But i must say this one looks so great and easy to use. :D
Yes, I already saw your great video about changing the fabric.
Hello Marco!I inserted the new film pack inside, close the door, put the darkside do not come out.Do you know what wrong with it?
Great info!! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I happened to stumble upon an original sx70 and the yellow piece that holds the front in place is broken so it is permanently open unless I hold it secure. Is there any way to fix this or is holding it while taking a picture enough? I have successfully taken one or two pictures with it ages ago but I would rather fix it if I can. Thanks again!!
it's not that easy to fix, i have one camera with the same problem here, if i fix it i will make a video about it. you should be fine with holding it up, just look that you dont cover the front.
You are the best!
Hello, great video, i'm waiting my folding sx-70 now!
But I have a sx-70 (one step) and i have a question. There is film pack inside with 4 film but i have to clean the rolls. Can i open it to clean without ruin the films? Or the top one will get light? Thx!
yes thats no problem just dont remove the film pack
Love the video man! Question, sounds stupid but I cleaned my rollers to good and now the picture won't come out anymore.. what can I do to fix it?
I read that the rollers are kind of sticky or something?
Anyway, Thumps up!
Great video again! I picked up an old Polaroid One step close up yesterday for $5 and an SX-70 sonar today for $20. Going to order film tonight so I can try them out. Somewhere in my vast hoarder collection I have a Land Camera 101. Darned if I can find it though LOL.
