    Man, I love seeing these things dug up and revived. I really want one again, even though I’m still traumatised from those damn door handles! I miss my XE Ghia more than any other car I’ve owned 😊

    That spare hose at the rear was the diff breather, it connects to the passenger axle tube at the brake line junction, the bolt that holds it on is hollow and the diff breather connects to it, that has either a country pack option or aftermarket springs to sit that high, s pacs were about an inch lower than gl falcons, s packs also got a chin spoiler, striped seats, full instrumentation dash, heavier front sway bar, better shocks, fog lights and usually a lsd (i have seen a couple of s packs without lsd but i was a standard option that was unchecked on purpose), you fuel pump might not be working if the lobe that drives it on the cam is worn out

    The XE is my favourite of that generation of Falcon. It looks better than the XF, and has a better rear suspension setup compared to the XD.

    Love it mate.... What a story. Have an XF sedan I purchased from Brisbane and shipped it to darwin where I live. Slowly slowly on it. Runs and drives but have the 4.0 barra next to it currently and she will be getting a turbo.
    This is such a awesome car for your parents to hold onto and enjoy again.

    I had an XE S pack for a few years and did over 100,000k in it, on my list of the best cars I've ever had this sits at number two behind my ZD Fairlane, just a great all around touring car with excellent handling, braking & speed, I loved that car and yes it was gold. oh and by the way I've owned five 911's (one was a 930) which were all amazing cars but my selection is based on overall everyday use.

    Awesome!! I'm a big Ford fan, and as an ex-pat Brit living in the USA it's great to learn about the Aussie stuff after being around British/American Fords. My daily driver is a '95 Ford Taurus, V6. I still prefer a straight-6 though.

    The headlight switch is also your dimmer for the dash lights, simply turn the black knob to the left and it should illuminate. ..
    Bulbs are green tinted and are very hard to find..
    Keep on rescuing!!

    I so wished one of my grandfathers had bought a aussie Ford or Holden when they bought new cars for the last time in the 1980s. Pop bought a 'wedgy' Mitsi Magna and Grandpa bought a Nissan Bluebird. Both were nothing but trouble for each... Still, at least they knew the feeling of owning cars from new, I've never been in a position for brand new.

    Nice car, loved the video and love seeing these old Falcons being restored and back on the road.
    Mechanical fuel is the way to go. Might be a split line and it's sucking air - same thing happened to mine.

    My 91 XF Falcon ute still remains my favourite car I’ve owned (which, incidentally, I bought off my own grandfather!) As idiosyncratic as this era of Falcons could sometimes be, they are still brilliant. I still regret having to get rid of mine…to some cunt from my old town who then proceeded to write it off.

    Try turning the light switch nob for the dash lights they have a dimmer on them you rotate the nob to go up and down

    Turn the headlight switch knob clockwise and you might get dash lights back. The dimmer control is part of the switch.

    Great find - Michael on BACKSHED - just did something similar with his XF Ute, took a bit to get it going, and also, had the repair the carby threads as you had to as well. That hose hanging from boot floor is the diff breather, looks like its come off the T-Piece on diff

    Typical mechanical fuel pumps!! Bypass it completely with the electric pump but leave it in place and see if ya can hear it pumping air as the car runs, that'll tell ya you're diaphragm is good or not or if it's running on a lobe or not.

    • @pgilb70
      @pgilb70 8 місяців тому

      Why not just replace the original pump?. They r reliable too.

    • @paulm8084
      @paulm8084 3 місяці тому

      It's a manual fuel pump runs off of a cam lobe. Could be a few things, lobe worn, split fuel line drawing air, or maybe fuel pump just air locked and needed a helping hand
