I lived in South West Utah from the late 1970s to the mid 1990s. I'm not a Mormon but my neighbors and I got along well. One woman asked me if I knew what a Jehovah's Witness doesn't accept. When I said no she told me they didn't do Christmas. She next asked if I knew what Jews didn't recognize and when I said no she said they don't recognize pork as a meat they can eat. Of course, she asked me what Mormons don't recognize and when I shook my head no she said, "A Mormon doesn't recognize another Mormon in the liquor store on Saturday night,"

I live here. Im a Brit. Not a Mormon. Moved here from LA. We got lucky. Very lucky with our time here so far. It’s not perfect. It has its problems. But to raise a family it’s been good so far. Driving here is terrifying despite what the stats tell you. The church splits up neighborhoods into “wards”. Hence all the churches you’re seeing. In one of your shots you were 2 minutes drive from my place. Very cool. The wife and I would have bought you a strong drink.

I had a Mormon coworker for 7 years. He was the easiest and nicest guy to work with ever. We never even elevated our voices at each other. He was the perfect coworker: smart, talented, respectful, friendly and humble. You don't see that too often these days.
Sadly, he moved back to Utah. I don't blame him, and I wish him well. What's left of CA is the polar opposite of the Mormon ideals.

I grew up in Utah and mormon. I was fairly devoted and went on a mission but had my questions and eye brow raisers. After research, I left the religion and eventually moved out of state, a little tired of living in mormon culture. Its quite the bubble there. I still remember the mindset I had as a mormon and how they see and view things. It so interesting to see things from the other end now. I Definitely felt like I had woken up from the matrix or something haha
The culture there was changing fast though and a lot of people who are still on church records wouldnt consider themselves members anymore, myself included. Its slowly becoming a less mormon environment, especially salt lake county.
Mormons are for the most part very polite and good hearted people! They just see the world through a different lense is all. I do have to say the religion is very misunderstood, I dont think most of the members have a complete grasp on the doctrine and might misrepresent a lot of topics
I joined the church and find it interesting that people leave the church to become woke. Knowing how nonmembers live doesn’t require one to leave the church, nor does becoming woke. The Book of Mormon and finding the church and Christ and Heavenly Father saved my life. I would never want to go back to living my woke life way of life. Just offering a different perspective. 💕

Utah looks so clean and “proper” maybe not parts of SLC or Ogden but overall looks like an amazing place. I try and get along with everyone no religion is gonna be fully right. Kind of like the Mormon/Mennonite and even Amish people they kind of get it when you see society falling apart like it is I really do appreciate their values. I would absolutely move from the northeast to any place in Utah with opportunity.

I had a roommate who was raised in the Mormon church. I asked him on the most obvious controversial beliefs. He told me that half of them actually believe it and the other half just "play" along.

I saw that too and wondered at the difference of those homes to the well-manicured lawns in other parts of town. Maybe these are the folks working 2 and 3 jobs just trying to survive and are too tired to have time to cut their lawns.

I visited SLC on my way to Yellowstone and it was cool, kind of reminded me of Des Moines but it felt extremely secluded. It was so empty around the city it felt like I was in Nuketown from Black Ops or something.
There cool but if you were dying n needed water or food guess what they would not give a hoot let's say you needed a life saving operation guess what you could ask n they would tell you no.
No! Salt Lake City is notorious for high drug use & deaths!
I’m a non Mormon who lived in the Salt lake area for several years for my job in the late 90s. It was interesting. No matter who you are, if you aren’t Mormon you will never quite fit in and you will feel it. It was an education about being a minority, however benign, that made me a better person. I liked everyone I met there. They were very friendly, their family and community interest seemed warm and sincere. My coworkers were great, they just didn’t drink real coffee. That was the hardest thing for me to accept 😂. Maybe it’s changed. The mountains were beautiful and that is where we spent all our time.

@@John3.36 In most LDS communities being inactive or a "Jack" is almost one in the same. You might have a 5% edge, and people you know would talk about faith related stuff like you knew what they were talking about, but it wouldn't make too much difference. If you're struggling with keeping your yard maintained, the members would be the first to be calling the city, because you were violating the "purity" of their sanctimonious neighborhood cliques.
I'm not Mormon and don't know much about them. But I've spent enough time in Utah to know that Mormons create a positive, admirable, and comfortable culture. Nice, laid-back people. Huge supporters of the arts. I did hear that 60% of Mormons live outside the US.

I moved to Brigham City, Utah and lived there from 2015-2018. It is 85% Mormon. The first question I was asked after meeting someone was: "Are you a member?" When I told them that I wasn't, they had nothing to do with me after me declining to go to their church. They sent missionaries to try and convert me. According to them I was a heathen even though I am a Christian. I couldn't wait to leave as I had never been so discriminated against in my life!!!

@shellybennett8194 I lived in eastern Idaho back in the late 90's and early 2000's, and had the same experience as you regarding the discrimination, and my young daughter was regularly excluded from her classmates birthday parties etc. due to the fact that we were not interested in becoming Mormons, even though we were and still are Christian. They are following a false prophet who created a false religion.
The true scum of the Earth in their eyes though are the Ex Mormons, if you were once in the church but then left you are the worst to them. This what many ex Mormons tell me, they are considered the lowest of the low to practicing Mormons. Homeless meth heads are more respectable to them.

in recent years i have learned some of the LDS practices and rituals done in the temple are very closely related to the jewish religion, like there was a jewish man who investigated the LDS church and learned what goes on in the temple and noticed many of the rituals done were very similear to if not identical to what they do in their own religous rituals.
it makes you believe the LDS church is related somehow, i mean how else did these rituals that were thought to be closely guarded secrets of the jewish religion somehow found within the LDS temples and it's been going on ever since joseph smith's time?
was there divine intervention? or was joseph smith a secret jewish person who knew a lot more than he let on?

My car broke down by Salt Lake City so instead of the over night stop like I planned, I ended up there for three days. I decided to go check out Temple Square. Hoping to blend in and be left alone, I wore dress slacks and a white shirt. But the "Gentile needing saving!" beacon went off on every church worker there. So I had everyone there happily greeting me and offering to show me everything there. It was a little weird, but it was actually a lot of fun. I was so glad my car broke down (although I didn't convert).
I think you’re confused about what the word gentile means. Gentile means “of non-Jewish” origin.

Pal, idk why people are concerned or even straight up scared of being stuck with groups like Mormons? It's not like you got stuck in a city like Baltimore, Chicago, or Detroit or in another ghetto region with lots of gangs.
My car failed unexpectedly in a highway, leaving St George. In summary, a nice guy took us to St. George and the city, and people were nice and straight-up helpful. Never had such friendly experience in Illinois, CA, or TX.

exmormon here. The "Mormons are sooo happy, I'm jealous!" thing is in act many times. A girl I used to date was a typical super-happy Mormon type. She took her own life. Acting super happy all the time is just something you have to do when you are LDS, even if you aren't.

Im also ex mormon and ya they are. Religion in general is good for the majority of society, nihilism is common in athiests and the community churches give helps with isolation in the social media age, also refraining from drugs or alcohol is very beneficial. Praying is really just meditation as-well and meditating multiple times every day will improve your mental health and happiness.

Amen. I used to have a copy of the book of mormon but got disgusted pretty quickly (since I was familiar with the King James bible). The mormon Jesus is said to have been brother to Satan, came to America and appeared to the Indians and other nonsense. Joseph Smith was a con man who denied bible truth and added to the word of God. Men and women in his time should never have fallen for his song and dance as they were certainly able to own, read and study the bible back in those times and many years before Smith. But people love stories, fables, dreams, visions, traditions, mysticism and gnosticism and always will.

I’ve only ever met one Mormon in my life. He is now a religion professor at BYU Provo. I read his reviews and students don’t appreciate that he teaches from more of a historical perspective than a faith perspective.
I think it’s great! We were in an early Christianity class at UofT together. He was a really nice guy.

As a member of the Church who grew up in the deep south, I was always highly appreciative of youth and Sunday school leaders who educated everyone on the history of Western Christianity without always making it an LDS cetric topic. There are so many members stuck in the echo chamber of Utah who can't even provide a robust explanation as to why the Church, even being non Trinitarian, isn't any less Christian than any other Christian faiths. They just freak out and say "It's in the Churches name is that not enough? Stop bullying me for my lack of explanation!". It's just not a traditional approach to American Christianity but it still is nonetheless. They don't know anything about the other various interpretations of the same Scripture and feel like they're being attacked by Satan himself every time someone brings it up.
Even Church leaders try and remind everyone that Blind Faith isn't always sufficient and that exchanging ideals and regularly being exposed to opposition are a important and healthy part of life in general all the while help to remove stigma from the outsider perspective.
Mormons have the dedicated attitude to be well educated on the history of Western theology and just refuse to look into it.
My cousin joined the Mormon church. They believe you can save the dead. He went to my aunt and wanted names of deceased ancestors. She said you can do what ever you want with your dad’s side of the family but you leave my side alone. Lol.
The dead can be raised, Jesus did it, and if you believe in heaven and/or hell, how is this so far fetched?
Baptizing the dead is sinful. This proves Mormons are not Christians.
I talked extensively with Mormons about their beliefs and I can shed a little like on this. They believe after you die, you go to a spirit world that except for lack of a physical body, you are in a state not too different from life. That is, you have free will, interact with others and continue to do right or wrong. And sometime later, you are judged by God and go to the appropriate level of the afterlife. So you can die unsaved, but become saved in the afterlife... But only if you've been baptized. And that's why they collect information on people who've died and "baptize their souls." They don't believe this automatically turns that person Mormon and sends them straight to the Celestial Kingdom, but they do believe that person (despite already having died) is given the choice to accept the LDS version of the truth and become saved, on continue on their current path and end up in a not so great version of the afterlife. They don't really believe in hell as understood by Catholics and Protestants.
Mormonism is IN NO WISE Christianity.

Yes every region has its own identity, northeast southeast Midwest west coast “mountain west” but Utah and maybe part of Idaho is its own thing with the Mormons, nowhere else I don’t believe has this culture. Also Utah/Idaho/ lot of Midwest and New England region is not very diverse where as a lot of the country now is mixed with people from all over the world, I’m outside of New York and it is crazy diverse here now like every ethnicity lives in this region(New Jersey) so it’s tough to really describe this country it doesn’t have its own identity anymore it’s a mixing pot pretty much.
I’m born and raised Baptist, but had 2 Mormon clarinet private lesson teachers during junior high through my college years. Both of these women and I would talk about the differences between our religions, but they always tried to convert me. I went to a very liberal, now defunct UMC junior college in east Texas, and one of my band directors was Mormon! I thought that was weird for a supposedly Methodist college to hire a Mormon. All in all, I am thankful neither of them were able to convert me.
I’m also a born again Christian. No one can convert me to anything either that’s for sure.
The Mormon religion/culture promotes the musical arts quite prodigiously. i.e. The Tabernacle Choir. Probably due to Brigham Youngs interest in promoting the arts early on. He had been deprived of music in his rearing and knew that it was good for the people to have music in there lives.

I am Korean, not mormon, but had a chance to look at what mormons are like and how they live. I agree with you. The way they look after one another was amazing. Except Only their mormon book doesnt seem to make any sense to me.
It's all bs. All kinds of things happen once you get past the front rooms. And females are in no way equal. Trying to find a female MD is next to impossible in Utah County and male Drs won't listen to women at all. We are treated horribly by men...and I'm not even a member of the church. The patriarchy is disgusting. I am roommates with three Ex-Mormons...and I am telling you what you see on the outside is nothing like what it actually is.

No religion is right if you think about it. But where I am Christians are mostly normal and pretty whatever about it(not the south clearly…) nothing like what I hear about Mormons feels way more “culty” even though I kind of agree with a lot of things they do, it’s the Joseph Smith nonsense I don’t like. And they remind me of the Jehovah witness people that there are a few of where I am they do same recruiting stuff I think…. But overlooking some oddness I really think I could live in Utah county, just not directly in Provo.
My old boss was Mormon and was the best boss I'd ever had. He would occasionally give me grief for drinking on the weekends, but nothing too annoying.

Boy does this bring back memories! Spent an entire summer hitch hiking around the country in 1978 from NYC. Bounced through Provo; walked across the BYU campus where the summer students were girls wearing dresses and guys wearing suits. I didn't even own a suit. Longest time I spent more than a couple days anywhere that summer was the 3 weeks I spent picking cherries in Orem for some survival cash.
The church itself gives me that creepy kind of Mason secret society vibe, but wow, there is no denying these are some of the nicest people on the planet. The kindness and respect shown to me - a scruffy vagabond kid - was UNREAL. Normally I'd just toss my sleeping bag down behind some bushes somewhere, maybe pitch a tent if it was deserted. The fella that owned the cherry orchard says I can camp out on his son's back yard LAWN! Where's that? Right next door! He had maybe 10 kids, 6 still at home, and EVERY night he'd invite me and another drifter inside to their dinner table. At noon about 4 of his younger kids would haul out a huge picnic basket to the orchard for us to have lunch. He did try to convert me but wasn't pushy about it at all. One weekend I put on my clean t-shirt and the other drifter and myself went into town to a dry bar and actually saw Marie Osmond. I think she had a thing for me.
Later in life when I got my act together and was in the Air Force, I knew a few Mormons in a couple different Squadrons and they were all solid, super conscientious, principled dudes.
Back to hitch hiking, on my way to leaving Utah heading West, one of my rides was a crusty old guy in a pickup. I forget exactly how it went down, but he basically asked me if I wanted to stop and get a beer? Huh? I thought the whole state was dry...? He says not out here (some distant county). Then sheepishly says something to the effect' "I guess I'm not a good Mormon..." LOL, I love those people!
Did you know joseph smith took the freemasons golden book to start mormons church he thought they had secrets about finding God,but some say masons god is lucifer hahaha

LDS people are anything but perfect. Believe me, I know. I am a member. However my view is that it’s a tool to help me find answers for this crazy world we live in. Some of the best people I know, and dear friends, are not LDS. I believe it’s a person’s heart that matters. Anyway, that’s my two cents.
Same with the Christians where I am out east, culture can be amazing but the churches I don’t trust at all, it does come from within no religious leader is going to help me…. The community and clean living aspect of LDS folks is incredible to me

I'm south African and I met some young men from Salt lake city who came here as missionaries and I found them to be good clean and earnest young men. I listened to them and they gave me the book of mormon which I have studied although I am still a Roman catholic.
I wish that all young Americans were well spoken polite and erudite like those young men. America would be in a much better state than the absolute mess that we see today.
Young people like those are good ambassadors for your country when they travel around the world because they represent your country in a very positive way.

I moved to Utah at 19 years old, stayed for about 10 years. I've always found I was treated kindly and fairly, and never was bothered to try to convert or anything, they're nice people. Just don't date someone from the church because they will try to convert you, and it's only out of a place of caring and love for them because they are wanting to share what they view as a great thing with you, but it's just kind of how it is what it is. If they're LDS, they are going to want to get married in the temple, so, while I am all about being with someone who has different views and such, that is a factor to consider But overall, great beautiful state with awesome people.

Great video Nick. As a genealogist I have great respect for the LDS church and many of their locations allow non-members to research in their genealogy research rooms. Good people and if you love genealogy they'll welcome you and treat with you respect without any mention of their faith in my experience.

The Mormons had me doing creepy babtisms for the dead in the Mormon temple when I was 12 years old. It was so creepy and I still believed in it then! Nothing could prepare me for that. I am concerned because a man dunked me in a huge babtismal font held by 12 massive baphomet looking bulls/oxen. One man read names of I think like 30 dead people all in the same family I heard with similar last names and I just couldn’t get a breath in because they fully submerge you backwards in the water each time. I just kept thinking, “when is is this going to end?”. I never went for another temple ritual again. I had been sealed as a 5 year old in the SLC temple that looks like as castle. It is one of my first clear memories I can remember. The temple was so beautiful. Then I felt embarrassed for my mom and then stepdad because they wore weird green aprons that I had never seemed before and as a 5 year with my 4 year old sister too, I was embarrassed for them like it was a humiliation ritual or something and my sister said she felt that way too!
PS. Mormons /LDS whatever they feel like being called, do not call those rituals but I do now!!
PSS. The many names of “dead” people and families their read for the baptisms for the dead they get from those genealogy libraries too. So you are aware there is no such thing as a free lunch, especially with pyramid scheming Freemason abrahamic Mormons! They offer their genealogy labs for free to the public so THEY can collect names for babtisms for the dead and to put peoples “names in the temple” too.

Have never felt more homesick in my entire life, it’s like they live in a complete bubble, detached from the outside world. Craziest part? they can’t even see the problem. I promise you all: not all members of the church are like this! There’s normal ones out there!
I lived in Utah for 3 years. I'm curious as to why, as a black person, would you join the LDS? For the record I am a black woman. Are you aware of the policy of not allowing black men in the priesthood until 1978? Or the doctrine of the mark of Cain for those with dark skin?

Raised in Utah and experienced the entire spectrum of spirituality from 0 to devout. Utah suffers from historical cultural homogeneity which is inspired but distinct from the teachings evangelized by Jesus Christ. The LDS "rules" are there for a divine reason, such as treating your body as a temple therefore don't tattoo(pollute) your body. Unfortunately humans have sheep-like behavior and often can't distinguish the Spirt of the Law from the Letter of the Law. So the interpretation that the "rules" are becoming more relaxed is misplaced. God doesn't change and His standard is the same yesterday, today and forever. I think the distinction is a reinforcement towards a personal communion/relationship with God and less of a top-down prescriptive approach that sometimes loses the message of Love that Jesus Christ embodies.
Don’t follow any church or preacher, be a good person, don’t do any drugs and try and limit drinking to a very occasional and control thing, don’t make it a lifestyle pretty much. Really isn’t hard people make life so hard when it isn’t.

I accidentally camped out at the Mormons most sacred site in New York. It was near the confluence of Two Rivers. On Sunday morning several Mormons came through and I was lucky enough to talk to their grand poobah or steak chairman I believe he was called. Very nice man we had a wonderful conversation he was impressed that I cleaned up a bunch of garbage and I told him I was called there on my own particular Journey. When I left my home to go camping I had no destination in mind but I ended up at their holy spot. He told me that I may stay one more night but that I was not allowed to Camp there again after that. What a respectful way to treat a guest on your most sacred land he certainly could have asked me to leave and I would have had to respect his wishes. Sometimes it's all about how you carry yourself in the world. I'm not much of a religious guy I tend to worship Mother Nature exclusively.
It's obvious that the Earth gives us life I'm not sure about any of the other stuff though...❤

I visited Salt Lake City at a convention. I got to tour and speak to many Mormon folk. I was enamored by them. Yes, still getting hand written letters keeping me up to date. Beautiful buildings, people, I found them very kind and sweet. I gave them donations for showing me around. I support their drive and strong beliefs. Wouldn’t mind moving there. The difference between NYC & SLC is major.

The Book of Mormon is fictional, a story about civilizations based in pre-Columbian North America, primarily the United States of America before the European colonization settled what is today the eastern states on the Atlantic Ocean. There is zero evidence that the Nephites ever existed; there is zero evidence that the Lamanites ever existed. To be Mormon is to have "blind faith", that those who teach you the history of the Book of Mormon are being truthful with you. There is no museum housing the artifacts of the Nephites and Lamanites, nor will there ever be one. The LDS church, with its 200+ billion dollars of wealth, easily could have funded multiple archaeological digs in the areas of the present-day U.S. where Mormon scholars think that the Nephites once lived. There haven't been any archaeological digs, not one, and none are planned. The three members of the LDS First Presidency and the 12 members of the LDS Quorum of the Twelve Apostles all know that there is zero evidence that the Nephite and Lamanite civilizations existed, but they continue to act as though they actually did exist in ancient Mesa-America. Continually, they want to deceive the unknowing, and get people who don't know any better to believe that the Book of Mormon is true.
In my late 30's, I've experienced this with a few churches, especially since my work deals with some of the "seedier" side of society. I came to terms with it by figureing God needs doorman, you know? We don't run the streets, but we aren't in the club either. Just a buffer zone.

Only Jesus can do that. PS I’m not dissing people. The LDS doctrine is made up. Only Jesus can save you and only Jesus alone.
Don't worry about it man. God loves everyone regardless of your church preference. Dating as a older Mormon guy is definitely tougher. Take a small break and go find new journey in life. God will work in his mysterious ways to help you out.
I knew a Mormon in the Army. The creatins in the barracks made fun of him because he wore his LDS pajamas in the shower room. I liked the guy a lot, he was a great guy and didn't mind what others thought, his beliefs were different from mine but that's ok. BTW-He was drafted after graduating from Brigham Young in 1967, the same year as Mitt Romney. Romney was given a deferment to convert the French to LDS while my friend was forced to serve. Mormons are OK in my book, but not Romney.
What isn't ok is my friend was not allowed to take his mission while Mitt was given special treatment. Mitt was given special treatment. The LDS missions were not considered for draft deferment, except for Romney. Not fair. @@itsdutchintime1907

I was a senior regional software analyst in the early '90s. Minicomputers were in decline and Utah was added to my territory. My new boss headed up Utah hardware support. He was the only non-Mormon in the office. He wasn't Mormon, and commuted to Salt Lake City from Park City. He was really glad to have someone to visit with when I flew in to provide special support. I'm sure it was a lonely job. We used to go out for beers after work. He was a great guy.
But woe to you if you are a woman working outside of the home or with an important job or even a middle manager. The Mormon men will chastise you and make you feel very uncomfortable. My daughter was harassed in her high school orchestra for wearing pants. She plays cello as was not about to wear a skirt.

I visited Salt Lake City last year and was able to see the LDS Tabernacle Choir for FREE! It was excellent and everyone was very friendly and inviting. I hiked up Ensign Peak for a great view...It looks like you were right there in one of your shots.

When we took a bus trip to Vegas a few years ago, we passed through Salt Lake City and looking out the window there literally was a Mormon church on every block! It was kinda neat to see !! 😮
I was dating girl years ago who got involved with the Church of Latter Day Saints here in the UK, she changed really quickly like she'd been brainwashed, to this day I'm convinced that it's a cult.

I am Catholic and I don’t drink or smoke and never have. I went to Catholic school and in my 40s now and I know pretty much no one who is Catholic who drinks a lot or smokes. That lady’s comments are labeling people that she seems very out of touch with. I am in the Northeast and have lots of Catholic family in the midwest and they don’t smoke or drink either. I hope that lady opens her eyes to the truth more.

I spent time in SLC, and it was a great experience. I'm not Mormon but the people were always friendly, open to discussion and NOT PUSHY.
I've been to Rome as well. Same situation with people. But SLC didn't have pick pockets ripping you off.
I'm not saying that Provo or SLC are perfect. Nowhere is perfect. But the quality of living in a Mormon dominant municipality was very comforting.

This is one of the more entertaining and hilarious videos I've watched about an outsider's view of "Mormonland" here in Utah! I grew up LDS in Orem (in fact at 24:10 you filmed the VERY church building I grew up attending! LOL) but I no longer practice or believe it. Sharon, whom you were talking to at this point, is accurate in saying that while the church professes to be inclusive, the members are definitely not. Very judgmental, very cliquey, very uninterested in genuine friendship and neighborly-ness if you're not LDS. Worse still, if you're "FOMO"...former Mormon. Also, at 25:09 the Subway that is shown is in what used to be my grandparent's backyard, where their chicken coop was, back in the 1930's and '40's! LOL Very well done! I giggled through a lot of it!

No way am I a Mormon however I embrace their tight-knit families, sense of community, business acumen, and most of all their religious pride. I wish to GOD my beloved Roman Catholic Church did the same. I visited SLC during the early 1980s. I found the people exceedingly friendly, their home city clean unlike Chicago where I live now, and the scenery nice and the weather perfect. I spent a day, after Mass, on their main compound talking to various ministers, and I enjoyed the Tabernacle Choir heavenly. Even met a girl there. I would love to live in Salt Lake City and would leave Chicago in a second. My beloved wife loves Chicago and won't live in any place else. Great show as always Nick
Find yourself a good parish out there! Traditional Mass parishes are full of young families who LOVE and CLING TO the faith. They are the future, despite what pope Francis thinks.

@@marquamfurniturethe north east sector of the Salt Lake valley, basically down town. All the transplants want to move there so the home prices are insane now for small 100 year old houses.
One of the churches you showed (4:30) was the very one I went to when I was growing up. The one you show in 5:05 is actually across the street from a seminary building next to my high school (where Mormon high school students go for their religion classes during the school day). However, there is another Mormon church right next to that one if you just go a little further.
It's interesting to see these last bastions of conservatism adopting more progressive ideals. Soon Salt Lake will achieve the same quality of life that we see in Los Angeles, New York, Cleveland, Chicago and other progressive cities. The future sure looks bright for the US, doesn't it?

Church's get cleaned every Saturday, if multiple wards go to the same church, they Alternate months, they also attend at different times, and yes, the churches are locked depending on the time, and if there is no event happening at the church. It's a level of defense to keep people who'd like to do harm, away.
I agree! I grew up Mormon in the 70's and 80's. Our ward had fire set to it. Nobody was there, but church was cancelled that day.

Yep here in St George one of our churches was almost built and it was burned down a few years ago. There were others vandalized. Now that two temples are being built here they have to have security guards at the sites.

Lifelong member. Never lived in Utah, but I've been there many times. I appreciate the good faith attempt to understand us, rather than mock and condemn. It doesn't happen often.
Non-Utah members always see Utah culture as weird. I respect the state and they're doing a lot right, but would wanna live there myself.

When you were driving through that neighborhood looking for Mormon chapels, that is where one of my brothers lives. Going from the highway to his house, you pass about 4 chapels.
As a life long Utah resident I know a place where there is a 4 way stop with Mormon churches on 3 of the 4 corners (the last corner was a gas station) it’s crazy how many their are
The regular LDS doesn’t believe in polygamy it’s the FDLS. It’s a branch that came from LDS and the leader is now in jail. I’m not LDS but just something I learned when watching the Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell cases.
I drove by the FDLS compound on the Utah-Arizona border once. There was a state police car at the entrance, apparently monitoring who came in and out. There is a lot more going on there that is illegal besides polygamy.

There's other FLDS folks that don't live in compounds or even people who do it for nonreligious reasons. But they tend to hide in the shadow and hang out with other polygamous people.

Yea they put the leaders in jail but they still run it from behind bars. They even made a documentary about it. I think it’s called keepsweet
I visited the church here in Ark a while back. Nice people and very health conscience. Services were a bit unusual. There really wasn`t any pastor that gave sermons as much as far as I could see. This is an area where the church could benefit more from.
