@@MsJenny323 Hello, Welcome to the club.. It's been 4 years since I wrote that comment , which makes it seven years of experience as a high school teacher now. I still agree with what's said in the vidoe.. trying to investigate your students' interests and to be aware of some of the challenges they face, helps you be relatable and easy to connect with.. you can get the teaching job done well, but still not be able to breach the barrier that hinders real valuable connection between you and the learner If you choose to ignor their interests. In my experience it's helpful to be flexible, for example, instead of a regular class activity plan and same examples and topics that everybody uses, you think of ways to incorporate students' interests in your examples, analogies, projects, research etc.. whenever it's possible. That way the majority gets interested in your class not only those who like the subject already. And guess what successfully connecting with the majority of your students literally means you gonna earn their love and as a bonus your nervousness will quickly vanish and turn into ambition. Teaching a class that loves you is definitely a happy experience, even if you're dead tired lol .. meanwhile you shouldn't really be a friend, you still want to have your position clearly differentiented as a teacher. That balance while being flexible is not easy to acheive, but it's really worth striving for. This advice may apply to high middle and even primary school teachers. Hopefully you gonna succeed in placing yourself on the happy side of being teaching.

Thank you for your content. There are many teacher channels in this medium but they do not speak to my soul like you. Thank you for being down to earth and relatable. Your videos are concise and informative. No water. Could I ask a question? As a beginner I had moments that made me doubt my choice. If you have time could you make a video about choosing this career field. How did you know that you are in the right career? What would you suggest or recommend to a young teacher who thought she was coming into the dream job and faced very mean colleagues and huge pressure from academia (pressure to get Phd and publish more works). Sorry if it is a strange question. (I work in a uni as a language instructor) Also I second the video about lesson plan.
Amu you will have many experiences as a teacher that will show your niche. At times you will face hardships but keep pushing through. You will find the grade level and topic you love best and even schools. At times you need to try new activities or observe or try another grade or school

I constantly get things wrong and not to mention the whole moderation process....but at least I have opened up to seeking help right now and some form of empowerment, and your videos are MIGHTY helpful. Would you consider mental health important to be a successful teacher? I say this because as much as we put our student’s needs and interests before us, I feel teachers forget about their own needs (i.e. overall well-being). How do the teachers you deemed successful managed or approached this?
I would definitely consider mental health as one. Although I have a list of 10 in the video, so many of these can be switched out with other habits as well. There has to be a healthy balance between your work load and how much time you put into the job. I've spoken about this in other videos. This can be a 24/7 job- if you let it, which can be emotionally draining and an take away from other life responsibilities and important relationships in your life. I think we have to be ok with some things being "good enough" and not striving for "perfection". Long term success for sure is connected to mental heath. Not allowing every little thing in the classroom to stress you out, not allowing admit to "control you life." Learning balance and sticking up for yourself is so important. Also finding teacher friends who understand the balance and ask how they do it. I knew a teacher who would get 95% passing rate on the regents, had 2 kids and was a wife and I was like GIRL...please tell me HOW do you do it? Sometimes those convos reveal they are good at learning what to say no to, and other convos will reveal "oh man...they do a lot, I don't think I can handle all of that" and being then at peace with the decisions you make as well.

You could also teach world languages in schools abroad and in Elementary or Ms/ HS
