    Awesome video brotha!! And thanks for the shout out. Niolox is supposed to basically be a more stable D2, and the bottle opener works like the wave, and works pretty well.

      It's an interesting steel for sure! That's cool! I didnt even consider using it like a wave! I'll pin your comment!

    I'm sure that you already know this and someone already said it but if you mark the point on the blade where the lock bar contacts with a sharpie, the lock stick disappears and it lasts for quite a while. I had to hunt this video down for validation. I just purchased one with minimal information about it. I feel pretty confident in my purchase now. You've not steered me wrong yet.

    I have a strange relationship with this knife. I’ve owned five in the last seven years and only the first one had to be sent in for a lock-bar adjustment, but that was due to my own ignorance in frame-locks at the time. It’s the one design that every time I let one go, I instantly regret it and wind up getting another. My current model is the Grey/Niolox version so I’ll probably just hang onto it. Great video.

    I once had a SERIOUS case of lock stick in a close relative of this knife, the Mr. DP Decade knife, with Mr. DP graphics on the blade, and a sculptural design on the all-titanium handle. Mine arrived with SEVERE lockstick. When I examined it closely, I found a groove, cut or pit of some kind, in the blade, right where the lockbar meets the blade. It was big enough to swallow a semi! The lockbar actually got stuck in it. Naturally, I returned it, and although I do have several other DPX GEAR knives which I like very much, I haven’t been back.

      DPX GEAR would probably be good for it, since it was clearly “a defect in materials or manufacture,” but I took the simplest route and returned it to the seller. I don’t know what happened to it next, but I would imagine HE could have returned it to DPX GEAR for repairs. This is one of the great benefits of buying American!

    I'm absolutely obsessed with this line of knives. Especially the the ones lionsteele is building. 3.0. I think my two years knife search just ended. Thanks

    I have owned 2 Urban and 2 HEST/F 3.0 Triple Blacks in the past 6 years and can say that the both the lock stick and the aggressive feeling on the g10 scales go away by week 2 of owning the knife. On that note, the liner under G10 isn't needed. The knives made in the states, the Urban, are partnered with many established knife makers in the US(I believe Brad Southard's knife company does some of the fit and finish on them). Also, he missed an important point he should spend a fair amount of time talking on and that is using the bottle opener to open the knife on draw, which is one of the strongest points of the knife.

    If it were mine I'd probably dab a bit of UV glue to prevent that rotary lock from engaging. It would be weak enough that I could break the bond to engage the lock if needed, but strong enough to prevent it from accidentally being engaged.
    Love the looks and heft of this, but for a bit more money I'd honestly just get a Hinderer ZT.

    I have the green 2.0 LH version, i tightened the lock wheel but the bottle opener is a pain in the ass for rapid deployment...

    Ive always digged the design. I just wish it had a few tweaks. A better grind. I understand it's for harder use but how it's ground really hinders it's ability to cut. The next would be a larger model. Blade length would be just about 3.5 inches. Then you have your regular model (like in your video) then there hest/f

    I’ve handled several of the DPX Knives. All had lock stick which was disappointing. Interesting knives but for the price I’d like US made, better steel, and no lock stick.

    OT Question: I know, it‘s not a Video about the Shaman, but I just have to ask. Would you pick the normal version or the cf/s90v sprint for edc? I‘m on the fence and really need advice, or call it help, from a guy who‘s more addicted to knives than I am😅 And sorry for hijacking the dpx hest commentary area🙈

      I love the s90v/CF shaman for what it is, but for a knife you're going to use, the g10/s30v version makes way more sense. That's just my opinion 👍

    • @MaJu0286
      @MaJu0286 5 років тому

      Thanks for the reply. You got it, the shaman should not be my fidgeting tool, i realy intend to cut all my daily stuff with it. Was just curious about the s90v, never had it on a knife before. And sure, there is a m4 version also available on the secondary market, but I want a stainless steel for edc, though i really love m4. Long story short, thanks again for your input🙌😊

    Is the detent ball made out of ti or stainless steel?

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  2 роки тому

      Probably ceramic. Detent balls are usually steel or ceramic. It's been a while and I don't have this knife anymore

    Lock stick is just the beginning of your problems with this lock! After a bit of hard use it will cease locking up tight even to the point of rattling. It’s been an issue for years & they’ve done nothing to address this well known problem. I mean it’s not like Lion Steel couldn’t make this knife with a steel lock bar insert.
