The eruption of the Sundhnukur volcano continues in Iceland these minutes. Fountains of lava are ejected to great heights from a huge crack in the ground, more than 4 km long.
Crowds of tourists and locals flock to the volcano in search of thrills and in attempts to take impressive photos and videos. Tourist interest in volcanic eruptions has been growing in recent years, and the March 2021 eruption of Fagradalsfjall attracted thousands of curious spectators. According to the Icelandic Tourism Board, more than 356,000 tourists showed "hot interest" in the site.
Long queues often form along the main pedestrian paths. Many visitors stay at the lava field until the evening to take night photographs of the fiery spectacle, which gain views on Instagram.
Particularly popular are helicopter excursions with the opportunity to fly over an erupting volcano and lava field. Such excursions are offered to those interested for 50,000 Icelandic crowns per person (about 360 USD), and the queue is scheduled for weeks in advance.
According to one of the tourists: people do everything they can on the volcano, play volleyball, fry sausages on the lava. Today, they even held a wedding there: the priest came there, and they also set the tables there.

For example, a popular tourist attraction in New Zealand, the Wakaari volcano, suddenly intensified its eruption on December 9, 2019, killing 22 tourists and injuring another 25. It is estimated that at least 1,817 people died as a result of volcanic activity between 2013 and 2023.

There is no monster here. The eruption is a natural occurrence. Iceland is situated on a hotspot, and it is on the boundary of the Eurasian tectonic plate and the North American tectonic plate.
