Powerful cyclone Boris hit a number of European countries, causing massive floods. Torrential rains caused casualties and destruction in Central and Eastern Europe, and rivers that overflowed their banks flooded thousands of homes, causing power outages.
In the German state of Bavaria, reservoirs overflowed their banks due to heavy rains, and ducks are swimming in the streets. In Dresden, the water level in the Elbe exceeded four meters, while the norm is two meters.
Poland is also suffering from massive floods. The situation is especially difficult in the south of the country. Stormy streams of water are washing away everything in their path. Thousands of people were forced to leave their homes. The army is providing assistance to rescuers and firefighters. The floods are called the worst in Poland in the last 30 years.
In the Czech Republic, prolonged downpours have led to floods, which have affected the northeastern regions for the second day in a row. Against the backdrop of what is happening, there have been power outages (about 135,000 households were left without power), problems with mobile communications and transport. According to the latest data, 250 settlements have been affected by floods, of which 110 have an increased level of danger, and ten have extreme flooding. According to the CTK news agency, a total of 10,500 people have been evacuated in the Czech Republic due to flooding.
The authorities have declared a state of emergency in the capital of Slovakia. Mobile dams made from sandbags are being deployed in Bratislava.
Some northern regions of Austria have also been declared a disaster zone. Evacuations have begun in the capital due to the flooding of the Vienna River. The storm has caused power outages in three districts of the city, and several metro stations have been closed.
In neighboring Hungary, water in the Danube River is rising. The Budapest City Hall has ordered the strengthening of the city embankment.
The rampant elements have also affected Romania and Moldova. At least five people have died as a result of the natural disaster in European countries.

We build enormous cities on the banks of mighty rivers with inadequate drainage and wonder why this happens? I can tell you... my hometown suffers bad flooding even after a relatively moderate downpour; the local authorities haven't made any effort to clear out the completely blocked roadside drains for well over a decade, so the water has simply got nowhere to go... and extensive flooding is the result!
