I have VPC dual Constellation Alpha sticks and the VPC ACE Flight pedals. I also want to add at least one VPC control panel eventually. So from left to right i have a throttle a omnithrottle and a stick. and i love it because the few times i reach to my far left for the normal throttle are no Problem at all because i only use it in Situations where i have enough time. But the Omnithrottle is a real Gamechanger for me.
@@Farrister i was unsure about it till i tried it. If you are using a base with a dry clutsh it can be used like a throttle but that is the only thing i didn't try because i still like the heavy feel of a real throttle so i use both. But that is a lot of money and i totally get that not everybody wants to spend that much.
I don’t have much money to spend on setups but i did end up getting a T.Flight hotas X, does me well for pulling off ridiculous manoeuvres and adds a nice level of immersion. I wouldn’t have the level of coordination to run dual sticks
@@Farrister Sadly not. To run multiple devices that need to share axis or assignments, you have to run with a Joystick Gremlin setup. Not a Virpil problem, its a SC problem.
I prefer HOTAS over HOSAS, myself, as well. I run a VKB setup with a Gladiator and a THQ throttle quadrant on the right, and the STECS mini-plus throttle on the left. I use the THQ throttle quadrant as a makeshift collective for when I want to fly my ships in hover-mode. I have one throttle mapped to thrust limiter and the other mapped to strafe up, so I just decouple, lower the thrust limiter, and use the strafe up throttle as a collective like you would a helicopter.
I run a thrustmaster warthog with peddels for roll. I may switch the stick for the winwing a10 stick so i can have a twist axis and ditch thee peddles. My preference is pitch and roll on the stick axis and yaw on twist but i gave it up when i got my warthog.
I have and am using the ''Virpil CM2 Throttle/VPC SharKa-50 Control Panel/VPC Warbird-d/F14-Stick/TM -arthog Base/F-18C/16C Sticks/TM-TMP Peddles/Honeycomb-Yoke/Throttle/Tobi'' for DCS/MSFS/XP12/Hunternet Starfighter''played on LG OLED 55/42 inch. For Star Citizen i just use KB+M. Virpil are the best imo, although Winwing are popular. All rugged and dependable, and with Virpil UK, non of that import nonsense.
*was designed as a PC game. It would appear CIG are making quite a lot of changes to ensure that an xbox controller will be the input device of choice, which can only mean one thing.... That said, totally agree with your comments on HOTAS vs HOSAS :) I have both a stick and a throttle on the left, and use the stick for lighter ships and the throttle for heavier ones 👍
I’ve come to like the VKB stick and Omni throttle. With the ability to pull the center spring out you can truly have the feeling of a hotas throttle without losing any of the finite movement of the hosas. It’s really cool. It’s just like having both at the same time.
I just got the omni throttle with the gladiator. Still working on my bindings. This is the first time I heard of removing the middle spring... Does that allow the x axis or FWD/REV strafing (for me) to stop anywhere on the axis?
I have HOTAS as well. I do have an left hand T16000 stick if I want to try HOSAS. I always wondered if maybe we should switch between HOSAS and HOTAS depending on what the ship actually has. You know, 'immersion'.
I really should dust off the old Virpils and get back into SC when 3.23 finally arrives. I love the combination of the CM3 with x2 Constellation Alpha and a side-way adapter for the left stick.
I'm coming back to SC after a long break and one thing I'm dreading is setting up my controls again from fresh but with the addition of Master Modes (not heard good things about MM) it seems like starting anew may not be so bad. I am a HOTAS pilot and while ive considered a second stick in the past, I've actually come far closer to picking up a collective instead. The only reason I haven't is because my chair won't support Virpil's mounting system and it is not a cheap chair. I'd be curious to see a tour of your full flight set up.
Another great video, I really like the relaxed nature of this content. I use a a HOSAM setup but am always looking for something different to try. I've been eyeing off the 3D Connexion SpaceMouse Enterprise, it's made for CAD and 3D dev applications but after some digging in forums it sounds like it could be quite good in Star Citizen. Another plus is it's alot smaller than a joystick or throttle setup which would be nice for people with less deskspace available. I'd love to see you review the SpaceMouse and let us know your thoughts.
vkb hosas, left with the angled pat, have flown hotas, and i like both, but the hosas is just a bit more comfortable to do dogfights or low flying with imo, i feel its also more immersive than keyboard and mouse
I have recently reached the crossroads between two sticks, HOTAS, and HOSAM and seeing as I have a stick already, I am considering HOSAM, it would be fantastic if you could do a review on stick and mouse!
Ive just got myself a set on order and been trying to find others who actually use a hotas over hosas. It seems more intuitive over sticks. Not bagging on thos who use dual stick. I just want to give more then just space a tippy toe around. Im really curious on how you have yours set up and when will come from my setup when i get it in the mail.
Great vid Farrister! and here I thought I was all alone using my Thrustmaster HOTAS one in SC 😀 and have been thinking of going for two sticks instead at some point. Would Love to have the Virpil setup, as the Thrustmaster does not have all those buttons one can programme, but again, there is also a very Big price difference between those two brands, and of course the ultimate quality that Virpil hardware is, there should of course be the price difference. But I am really looking forward to your vids on setup and bindings, as I can perhaps use some of those binding in my setup as well, to avoid using the keyboard so much. As U I am an alrounder, salvage, a bit of combat...all though i totally suck as a pilot when it comes to combat, bunkers and some mining and cargo! Cheers!
@@Farrister I can just imagine!! Been in a while ago. on the Virpil webside and have checked the components, and they look amazing, so totally looking forward for You to go in depth on your Virpil HOTAS setup 👍🏻
1:04 Love the look of this set up. I've always just used a controller, I've not really seen a set up that looks ergonomic and practical, but this might change my mind. What desk mounts did you use for the whole setup, how easy was it to get installed? And how easy is it to switch from "flying" mode to FPS (or other games)?
used dual sticks. but because master modes killed racing, i'm not running any set up at all anymore. they are already in the basement and i get them back, once they fix the flight model in 2 or 10 years.
I love the idea of using a hotas/hosas setup, but ive been gaming on my k/m setup for far too many years. for me personally, i think training and learning to understand the principles of space flying on a k/m setup is probably more beneficial that jumping straight to a joystick config (but ive no clue what im talking about, so any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated)
I just use good ole mouse and keyboard. i tried using a hotas set up but since its such a new thing for me i just couldnt get a feel for flying like i could with mouse and keyboard.
HOTAS over HOSAS for me. It has a lot more versatility in other games too, even Farming Simulator. Their stick and throttle really are the best in industry and with Star Citizen being a game where you need all the buttons, knobs, and switches you can get - their HOTAS really cant be beat. Also, Virpil organically pushes its products unlike VKB that goes to dirty tactics of filling comment sections, subreddits, etc with shill information. And last but not least, Virpil is made in Europe! Not China! That in itself should be a big W
Well I have the best of both worlds, I'm lucky enough to have a complete Virpil setup with both dual sticks and a throttle, and depending on which ship I fly, I switch between them, but I mostly fly with dual sticks, maybe because I'm a racer in SC :) And congrats with your new controllers they are truly amazing, and BTW which cam's are you using the the base? I favour CosmoSim with no center :)
I am curious, how difficult is it to adjust to a HOTAS/HOSAS setup when you never used one before? While mouse and keyboard with gameglass on the ipad pro as a MFD is mostly fine for my industrial focus and pve combat, I am certainly interested in such a setup once the game reaches 4.0 and (hopefully) becomes a lot more stable and a throttle or stick with granular control could even double as a mining laser throttle, but it's still a big investment if you want something decent. Dualstick with one omni-throttle adapter may be a good middleground between both types of setups if one can't really decide between one or the other.
Same, but not because I'm broke, but I doubt the usefulness of anything else considering the price and the effort to get used to it. And Star Citizen is just one of the games I I play.
I just built a new pc (I was still running a 9th gen cpu and a 20 series gpu). Thanks to this vid I have already allocated my next £1500. Sigh, and here I was thinking I could have money.
I am a space trucker from Elite, starting with star citizen and looking for a setup. I was really looking to keep playing with a Hotas, noce to hear it‘s possible :) These dual joystick people made me insecure 😂 But I love the feel of resting my hand on the throttle…
I found out about the „Throttle“ Hosas. Cm3 base and this angle metal thing allows playing dual stick while having a feel of a throttle. Will save up money for this setup :)
imop dual stick is better even for heavy ships. use decoupled mode, Its way better. Decoupled mode may be challenging at first if your not the best pilot but after some practice its so much nicer than coupled mode and you have way more control over your ship and you will move much more fluidly.
would be interested in learning about the dual stick controls.. really never come across concept before this game and although i just got a x56, the concept interreges me. Also nhs workers remember your blue light card for 25% discounts on logitech stuff.
I have the vkb stecs standard and gunfighter. It is a great setup that works well with Star Citizen and a must with some flightsims and WWII flight games.
VPC Alpha + VPC CM3 Throttle here. I see no reason to ever run HOSAS when I have an analog stick on my joystick for strafe usage, and when I don't give two shits about PvP. Throw in a 43" 4K monitor and the obligatory Tobii 5, and my SC experience is more than adequate.
I'm still on mouse and keyboard. Sometimes I want to buy some cheap joystick, but have no idea how all the thing in game can be done with joiystick, considering the changes in 3.24 it's not that comfy to control thrust with keys and mouse
I like how the controls look, but i wouldn't know since "Star Citizen" isn't in "South Africa" yet and i don't have a computer yet whey are really expensive. I only make R2000 monthly. 😅
@@Farrister i don't know im not that much of a gamer but i like watching your videos and Star Citizen doesn't have RSA (South Africa currency) yet and i don't know if Star Citizen is in South Africa 🤔 im not really sure and I'm not that big of a gamer that much
Ok, so a point to keep in mind, did Virpil tell you what you could and could not say? Are your thoughts your own or something they told you to paraphrase? If you're going to accept sponsorships, be sure to be clear to your audience as to whether your opinions are your own or have been directed by the company. Only reason I mention this is that others have had this bite them in the ass, and I'd rather not see that happen to you. Nicely done, overall, and glad to see you got some new toys to play with. :)
A really good point, and the answer is no. They didn't need to see anything before publish, they didn't need to approve anything. They were confident in their products, and honestly I can see why. I didn't go too in depth in the video itself as it was more about the concept of HOTAS than a detailed review, although judging by some of the interest perhaps I should do that too!
Isn’t required, he’s discussing HOTAS as an alternative option to HOSAS for SC, not a detailed review of the equipment. You can insert any brand of HOTAS supplier into this video and it would not impact what was covered.
Farrister is married? Shit there went my long term plan😂. Jokes aside i played on mouse and keyboard for my first year, then got the VKB Omni throttle set up a couple months back and ive absolutely adored it. So from left to right i have a throttle a omnithrottle and a stick. and i love it because the few times i reach to my far left for the normal throttle are no Problem at all because i only use it in Situations where i have enough time. But the Omnithrottle is a real Gamechanger for me.
I was sorely tempted by the Omni Throttle...
Nice to have some physical hardware!
@@Farrister indeed, it maybe rather cheap and feel a little delicate, but it gets the job done.
I like the sick and throttle. For me, it makes the game feel a lot better.
For me too
I am rocking a full Virpil HOTASAS setup - just wish SC settings were more capable
So fancy! The Virpil software helps bridge the gap, I think
I like the idea of the makeshift collective
@@Farrister I think I may make a video about it for the few citizens like me that miss hover mode, lol.
Duel Sticks VKB's NTX Omni's. Gives me a motorcycle type feel to my flight which I find more comfortable.
What do you tend to do with them in game?
I’ve come to like the VKB stick and Omni throttle. With the ability to pull the center spring out you can truly have the feeling of a hotas throttle without losing any of the finite movement of the hosas. It’s really cool. It’s just like having both at the same time.
The omni throttle was tempting...
@@Farrister definitely try it out if you get the chance. Something I’ve grown to love with this game.
I just got the omni throttle with the gladiator. Still working on my bindings. This is the first time I heard of removing the middle spring... Does that allow the x axis or FWD/REV strafing (for me) to stop anywhere on the axis?
i have virpils. if it has not been asked yet how to you assign thrust reversers? it use to be throttle strafe but that is no longer an option.
I use the paddle axis on the back of the stick
I have HOTAS as well. I do have an left hand T16000 stick if I want to try HOSAS. I always wondered if maybe we should switch between HOSAS and HOTAS depending on what the ship actually has. You know, 'immersion'.
I was surprised at how many ships have HOTAS as their loadout!
Intriguing! Have you seen Noobifiers channel? Great for hardware reviews, although I don't remember if they covered the SpaceMouse
@@Farrister I have and i've now messaged him too, he said he'd "take a look". Fingers crossed he likes it enough to do a review. :)
Dear santa claus....
Kinda felt like Christmas morning when the boxes arrived!
vkb hosas, left with the angled pat, have flown hotas, and i like both, but the hosas is just a bit more comfortable to do dogfights or low flying with imo, i feel its also more immersive than keyboard and mouse
I have recently reached the crossroads between two sticks, HOTAS, and HOSAM and seeing as I have a stick already, I am considering HOSAM, it would be fantastic if you could do a review on stick and mouse!
my dream setup, im useing the Thrustmaster ts 16000 at the moment, but looking to upgrade to virpil
It has truly been wonderful to use
Ive just got myself a set on order and been trying to find others who actually use a hotas over hosas. It seems more intuitive over sticks. Not bagging on thos who use dual stick. I just want to give more then just space a tippy toe around. Im really curious on how you have yours set up and when will come from my setup when i get it in the mail.
Will share more details in future - might need to rebind for 3.23!
I have dual Virpil sticks but am considering the throttle attachment.
The Z-extension? That looks really cool!
I use HOTAS too. Although, sometimes I miss my mouse-joystick configuration.
I have my mouse to hand, but tend not to use it whilst flying
Cheers!
Thanks, stay tuned! I also moved from Thrustmaster HOTAS to this, and it's a noticeable step up!
@@Farrister I can just imagine!! Been in a while ago. on the Virpil webside and have checked the components, and they look amazing, so totally looking forward for You to go in depth on your Virpil HOTAS setup 👍🏻
I use to use HotasX and then got the X52 pro. I'm waiting to get Virpil.
I use 2 sticks, a throttle, peddles, and a bottom cluster.
For flexibility.
Sounds incredible!
I would like to fly HOSAS and Throttle. Been eyeing that Virpil throttle for a while.
Should have known you just have all the things :D
1:04 Love the look of this set up. I've always just used a controller, I've not really seen a set up that looks ergonomic and practical, but this might change my mind. What desk mounts did you use for the whole setup, how easy was it to get installed? And how easy is it to switch from "flying" mode to FPS (or other games)?
Yes, gear reviews please.
Excited about the prospect :)
used dual sticks. but because master modes killed racing, i'm not running any set up at all anymore. they are already in the basement and i get them back, once they fix the flight model in 2 or 10 years.
I really should pull the trigger on a HOTAS/HOSAS set up. I've been putting it off for far too long.
Each to their own! I don't think there's a right and wrong answer to this, just what works for you individually
I'm still ol KB+M but would love to see more information on this.
:)
Thrustmaster T16000 and TWCS. Virpil is just out of my league, but of course I would like to have an all Virpil setup.
It's pretty awesome!
I just use good ole mouse and keyboard. i tried using a hotas set up but since its such a new thing for me i just couldnt get a feel for flying like i could with mouse and keyboard.
Fair enough!
i would really like a up coming review
OK!
I do love the HOTAS setup. I also think Stephen Fry is a wonderful human being, so kudos there!
Very fancy!!
I don't know how it will be with master modes, but with the current flight system I felt like HOTAS have a place in big, sluggish ships.
Totally!
I came from Hotas and went hosas, i sometimes miss a propper throttle, it feels better for industial work.
How is the control panel? Is the build quality as good as the throttle? Loved the video.
Yeah, it's fantastic. I might do another video solely on it in future, but it really adds a lot to the experience
all we need now, is a company to recreate the Xi'an control interfaces. Yknow, for maximum immersion
I can just imagine lol
Is the aim with HOSAS or HOTAS to never touch the keyboard?
It's my aim! Everything needed within arms reach. But the moment I pop out of the pilots chair, it's back to M&K
Mouse and keyboard since im too broke to get sticks lol
Same, but not because I'm broke, but I doubt the usefulness of anything else considering the price and the effort to get used to it. And Star Citizen is just one of the games I I play.
:D
I just built a new pc (I was still running a 9th gen cpu and a 20 series gpu). Thanks to this vid I have already allocated my next £1500. Sigh, and here I was thinking I could have money.
Haha, hope you enjoy!
Oooh what flight sims?
@Farrister I am dabbling in MSFS 2020 and IL2. But most of my free time, i am just free flying in SC.
A nice controller makes a big difference, I think!
@@Farrister just don't want to spend money on something expensive as I'm not sure if I gonna like it or not
I am still slumming it with kb and mouse. They look really nice though.
Whatever works for you!
Your boy is broke so I'm rocking the classic HOMAK setup.
Hands on mouse and keyboard.
I like how the controls look, but i wouldn't know since "Star Citizen" isn't in "South Africa" yet and i don't have a computer yet whey are really expensive. I only make R2000 monthly. 😅
I would have thought Star Citizen was very much in South Africa!
@@Farrister i don't know im not that much of a gamer but i like watching your videos and Star Citizen doesn't have RSA (South Africa currency) yet and i don't know if Star Citizen is in South Africa 🤔 im not really sure and I'm not that big of a gamer that much
Thanks
Why don't you set a virtual button on the axe forward at 80-100% it could be great
Ok, so a point to keep in mind, did Virpil tell you what you could and could not say?
Yes please, and that bindings video would interest me greatly, personally. @@Farrister
Isn’t required, he’s discussing HOTAS as an alternative option to HOSAS for SC, not a detailed review of the equipment. You can insert any brand of HOTAS supplier into this video and it would not impact what was covered.
I think people sleep on the HoSaM setup. Best part is it's basically half of the price!
I think control scheme is a very personal choice, whatever works for you!
I'm left handed so HOTAS doesn't really work for me since I have yet to see a reversed setup.
Farrister is married? Shit there went my long term plan😂.
Jokes aside i played on mouse and keyboard for my first year, then got the VKB Omni throttle set up a couple months back and ive absolutely adored it. Yeah its a little cheap on the quality and definitely too small for my above average hands, but they're definitely great. If i had the extra disposable income i would definitely get Virpil instead, but im also happy with my VKB's
JUST MAKE MORE SC CONTENT Farrister!!! haahaha! 🙂 It's all good!
:D
mouse & keyboard
Impressive!
@@Farrister Not so impressiv when you check my pilot skills
