I visited Glenveagh 30 yrs ago whilst over on holiday from England. 30 yrs later I now live in Donegal and can visit this beautiful spot as often as I wish. Great to see it on film, thank you. 👌💕
Nice you were able to leave your gear in the office. That was a beautiful route!! The walking route with those gorgeous flowers...so nice. I would really enjoy seeing those grounds. Stunning lake view and the castle area...wow. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for taking the time to watch this Wheels especially as there are no bikes. This is a favourite place of mine, it's only a 40 minute ride from the house in Ireland, but makes you feel like you are in a different part of Ireland altogether. The gardens are free to roam as I said in the video and the bus is even cheap at 3 Euro return. It was good of the reception staff to keep my gear, handy to know for the future. If you time it just right you can almost have the whole place to yourself, there's always a peaceful place to sit and take in the surroundings and the food is good in the cafe. It has a very colourful history. :)
That's interesting, I wonder if your surname has a significance. It's a great place with amazing gardens and it only costs for the bus and the castle tour. The place is steeped in history and John George Adair was very cruel when he evicted the locals from the surrounding land, maybe your ancestors were included in that. Thanks for watching and commenting.
IRISHROVER Yes I know my Grandfather arrived in Glasgow in the early 1900's, not sure the exact year but my father told me the story of Glen Veagh and the Seven Sisters Mountain Range and that our family was descended from Irish King's. He also pointed out the Seven Sisters Constellation "Pleiades" to me when I was a very young girl as this has some connection to the mountains. I was a bit dubious at first when my dad told me about this as my mother had already told me we were descendants of Robert the Bruce on her side and as a Glaswegian we like to noise each other up lol but having travelled by car to Kincasslagh for a wedding 20 years ago I was surprised to drive past signs for Glenveagh Castle and National Park. When i got home I told my Dad that I had driven past the signs for it and he looked at me as if I was daft for not believing him lol Thanks again for this wonderful video!
I didn't know about the connection between the constellation and the mountains. Glenveagh is one of my favourite places in Donegal and we are from a small town not far from it. I'm also Glaswegian with strong Irish roots.
Where are you coming from? October will be a nice time of year with lots of Autumn colour. I'm just back from Donegal and we went to Glenveagh for the day. I found it more colourful in the months of April to May. Have a great time. 👍😁
@@irishrover63 Im coming from Texas, Dallas. I will land in Belfast, is it possible to get to Glenveagh by train? i plan to seeing Portrush work my way over to see Duluce castle, then Loddon-Derry then from there to Donegal.
Hi Chris, Donegal does not have a rail network. Glenveagh is in quite a remote area. I Googled and found this company that has great reviews and you can hire a private guide to take you from Derry to Glenveagh. derrybluebadgeguide.com/ Have a great trip when you come and hope the weather is kind. p.s. My sister lived in Texas a long time ago.
Really enjoyed this video. Well done but the trouble is my wife wants to go there, so its a car trip not on my bike. Still we now have a trip planned later in the year. Staying in Milford, nipping up to Fanad Lighthouse , then Glenveagh and finally Slieve League. Its only 3 hours away but we will stretch it to 3 days and 2 nights. only downside is that shopping in Donegal has been mentioned. Still as she is paying, I owe her that. Take Care and ride safe.
Thanks Phil, you will love it, hope the weather is as good as it was for me. Fanad Lighthouse is great as is Slieve League which I had made a video of also. Enjoy your trip and hope the sun shines for you. :)
