  • Over the years, the history of this futuristic looking home has become an urban legend, and the domes have gained an almost cult-like following. Some have said the domes look like giant Scrubbing Bubbles. Rumors about the domes went as far as claiming they had been left behind by extra terrestrials.
The domes were built on the southern tip of Cape Romano in 1980 by retired independent oil producer, Bob Lee, as a DIY project. The dome home was ahead of its time by being self-sustaining and solar-powered. The structures were originally built on dry ground, but due to erosion they are slowly receding into the Gulf of Mexico.
The abandoned domes have become a popular destination for tour boats, fisherman and urban explorers. REMEMBER: WHEN VISITING CAPE ROMANO AND THE DOMES, PLEASE RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT. STAY CLEAR OF TURTLE NESTS, NESTING BIRDS AND ANY OTHER WILDLIFE YOU MAY ENCOUNTER ON THE ISLAND.

Wow cool. Are they still there and is there a boat tour to get out there?
