I remember when I was younger my grandfather (a FFAA programmer) would block stuff from me as a kid. I'd eventually learn how to back door stuff, mask/hide stuff, and work around it. He never got mad. He'd just use another tactic. One day I learned to make my own keylogger script; hijacked his computer and the modem on our personal computer and took control changing all the passwords. He asked me how I did it and I told him thinking I'd be in trouble. He didn't get mad; just asked for access and removed all the safety stuff. A few years later I asked him why and he said he was protecting me until it was apparent I knew enough to take care of myself and there wasn't much left for him to test me on to see if I could work around it, remove it, corrupt it, or repair it. I feel like troubleshooting and learning to manually doing stuff was such a benefit for me.
@labman472011 honestly cook at specialty resturant in Las Vegas. When I was in UNLV in 2008-2010 everyone and their dog was in computers dropping the hiring rates to like 11-14$. plus we learned on useless programs like jgrasp and Javascript before sundisk bought em out. When I got into the job I have now I make nearly double that and sometimes tips if im serving the millionaire events so I lost drive to be a programmer dropped out.

I was very legitimately mouth wide open in shock when I realized this WAN show was over. I started listening, did laundry, cycled home, did groceries, did some in-house stuff, and was about to continue listening on my PC whilst downloading a demo on steam and realized I had a bare 10 minutes left. It seems I've grown accustomed to the 4 hour format... UA-cam shorts has a new meaning.
One of the best parts is one that was barely mentioned - construction/trades is all imperial. But all engineering is metric. So you'll get blueprints with measurements like 10.2cm, 762mm, 6.092m etc. where you have to convert it to feet/inches (4in, 2'6", 20ft respectively) to know how to measure it with your imperial tape measure
@@Krutonium I feel the driving time measurement would also be used in the USA or other large land mass. Versus Europe where everything is close. But I can be wrong.
That metric-imperial conversions back-and-forth Luke and Linus had RIGHT after marveling over how ripped Zuckerberg is was one of the funniest things I've listened to in a while. Always love a good WAN show.
@@ADMNtek I mean it depends on the tea. I wouldn't have a green tea or an earl grey with milk, you are right that would be vile. But a black tea (preferably Yorkshire tea for me), bag left in for a good while and a little dash of milk and if your feeling indulgent a little bickie (like a good old chocolate digestive) and your on to a winner 🏆
@@iLaCore I seem to hear north Americans talk about coffee creamers alot. I assume it's like a little pot of UHT milk or I guess UHT cream? That you put into your coffee.
Dell Customer here in Australia, The refund is the full price we paid for the monitors at the time + interest. Already been talking with Dell this past week and my money is due in 7-9 days.
I wonder if that's why Dell's specials on their 4K 27" business monitors dried up 6 to 12 months ago... You used to be able to get 3x 27" 4K monitors for less than a grand, when they were on special...
Regarding false sales: Hobby Lobby in the US is notorious for marking items 40% or more above MSRP then putting them "on sale" making the item normal price. As a builder of Bandai models, Hobby Lobby does carry quite a few, but I only buy them when they go "on sale" so I can actually get them for regular price. It is shady, dishonest and should be illegal.
My parents bought me a C64 for Christmas 1983, I was 12yo. My dad said, "I think you should learn how to use this, I think they may be important" - I have a Masters in Defence Modelling and Simulation and have, for the last 15yrs, helped the UK MOD educate its personnel in the world of all things technology which an increasingly pivotal in their training and combat experiences.
Hey Linus, I'm the original customer here. I encourage everyone to read my article or at least this comment. I was never locked out of anything due to self hosting many of my own services and many devices run locally only. Just my echos were locked out. All my lights and automations keep on working, we just used Siri or flipped light switches as all my lights can just function as normal lights too. The real reason I went public with this is because not everyone self host (nor should they have to) and I knew I wasn't the only one who's had something like this happen. I wanted to raise awareness plus be able to use all the press to actually get the attention of law makers. I'm just starting on part 2 now of getting law makers on board. I figured it would be easy to ignore just me but if we got some momentum behind this, something could actually get done. I don't care who you are, what you look like, what you believe in, getting your account locked across the board is crazy. It would have been a reasonable step if they just refused to deliver while they did an investigation if they believed a credible threat was present. However, what does that have to do with turning on lights?
On the prime canceling: there's literally a Seinfeld episode on how impossible it is to cancel gym memberships. It's not a new thing or an online thing, it's a subscription thing. And in my opinion, not allowing counteroffers until the cancelation is complete (so closing the tab rejects the counteroffer) is a part of the solution.
There's a new piece of banking regulation in the UK called the Consumer Duty. Part of its requirements is that canceling a product or service should be as easy as signing up (and there's a bunch of guidance etc. on what that means). Otherwise it's a "sludge" practice. Glad to see this kind of thing getting attention in other sectors/countries.
@@drakemarsaly6644 I'd been a regular member of my last gym for almost 10 years. When I came to cancel it because I was moving they tried to charge me an extra month because thats their policy. I told them I'd already cancelled the direct debit and to *youtube friendly swear word*.
Linus a year ago: "I mean, there just seem to always be people who simply don't get the joke. they don't get that I'm joking. like honestly, what do I do?" Linus now: "f*kin idiots." 🤣 1:04:20
@@Jessev741 I think that is in 'title' only. I bet TT is already heading most of it. I have been known to be wrong, but I felt like we even had more Linus time the last week or so.
One of the best places ive ever worked at supplied us with four gallons of milk, four loaves of bread, and PB&J every week after the owner noticed that employees were going without lunch some days because they were too busy to go eat out for lunch. Even though we have a legit cafe these days, ill always remember the grind from back then and eating PB&J with a big glass of milk along with a few coworkers.
As an Aussie, I'm proud of our ACCC. It's far from perfect and too like America is influenced by big corps like Wesfarmers and insurance and the big four, but overall, it is a very capable and active consumer protection watchdog. It has gone in to bat well above it's weight class before and won.
And even if they cant win a straight up suit they usually get enough stink made to cause a recall or make the company in question do something about it.
I was having a freak out earlier while watching the WAN show because I took out my earbuds and I could still hear Luke and Linus's voice in my head. I couldn't even hear myself speak over the sound of their voices! It turned out I was dreaming and I had fallen asleep watching the WAN show. I should stop watching this in bed - LMG crew always make it into my subconscious when I fall asleep watching the WAN show.
With regards to infrastructure vulnerability we're actually right now *at peak* with how vulnerable we are, as in the future systems are likely to get significantly more resilient and hardened. We are moving to renewable energy with micro (or at least *more* micro) interconnected grids with *way* more connection points, and we right now have multiple constellations of satellites providing space based internet which themselves too are being specifically built with resilience and redundancy in mind. All this is layered on top of the fact that having resilient infrastructure be an actual government target thing that we are aware of is *a thing* now for many nations, and so active planing is taking place to reinforce this idea
There was a Kmart in Greenville South Carolina that was going out of business for going on 8 or 9 years when I moved out of the state... The funny thing is it looked like it was going out of business since day one whenever you stepped inside like it just felt empty and it felt like the employees there had not only given up on life but given up on the business even existing a week from then.
@@hammerth1421 to be fair there aren't many CEOs that aren't greedy. The Kmart CEO was just a little too greedy for the company's own long-term viability.
As an Italian who doesn't use stupid measurement units, it was really hard to follow the first part of the WAN show with a lbs to kg and a feet to meters converter always open
@@DavideFalconi I live in a country which officially uses the metric system, but we use feet and inches for certain measurements. Subconsciously we choose feet for anything under a meter, then a mix of inches and cm for anything under a foot. They're just using whatever comes naturally to them at the time. It's like people who throw in words from another language while they speak in their native tongue because that word has a more accurate meaning for their concept than a native word.
@@dominick253 it was just an exaggeration, but they should really use both in their videos, sometimes they only put weight for laptops in pounds for example. It would really be appreciated to also have the weight in kilos
@@ffsireallydontcare yes I know, it was just an exaggeration. But it would be appreciated if they always used both, even in their videos, which they don't always do
1:04:10 Actually..., it's not about the milk helping with the hot sauce. It's the fat molecules, that help. So just some regular sunflower or olive oil would've done even better.
Ever since UA-cam shifted from Sub Page to Homepage views have been more and more algorithm driven. Its at the point now where subs don't mean anything for views. I have watched almost every Linus video when it comes out for several years straight though
Just to note for construction here in Canada that yes we mostly use feet and inches as the preferred measurement that engineered drawings are in millimeters. For example the drawings call for fire rated wood blocking in a wall that gets TV mounting. The height for the blocking would be 2200mm-2700mm or something like that.
@@OsomoMojoFreakA couple big reasons: First, all the construction work done on already existing structures etc create issues if the sizes of things were changed to metric. Second, especially in the materials side there are a LOT of ties to the United States. In general those are the two reasons for the continued use of imperial measures, continuity and ties to the US.
I was wondering why they thought milk at the office would be weird, when it's common to use in coffee, but then I remembered canada's milk bag situation.

I think whenever a company breaks the law for monetary reasons. The absolute minimum penalty should be 110 percent of however much profit made from unlawful acts plus all costs spent to investigate and audit the company to determine how much profit was made. In other words make it so it is always more expensive to break the law than it is to follow the law.
The metric vs imperial discussion is hilarious. As someone who grew up in Europe and have used metric then moved to post imperial Ireland I can relate. I've no idea how much is in a pound, feet, stone or miles but I can fairly accurately estimate after living in Ireland for 18 years 😂
OMG: with the situation with Amazon: that has to be illegal. Think about it, you PAID for all of those smart devices and their features only for them to be stolen from you because big-company is sad that you or your "smart door bell" said something that THEY found offensive. This is a major breach of privacy and security for the user purchasing these devices. Thank you for reminding me never to purchase smarthome devices or a smarthome. OMG IOT introduces so many vulnerabilities to your home network already, and now a COMPANY can seize control of YOUR property. This must be illegal. What they are doing is STEALING.
Exactly my thoughts. My company has like 150 employees and we have 3 kitchens with 4 coffee machines with tons of milk (including almond milk for our veggie colleagues). Don't get me started on free breakfasts... Why you need milk in the office Linus? For you staff!!!
@@maciej21 I know right, literally every business i have ever worked at that has a lunchroom, i spent most of my life in construction working out of a van, but i have worked at dozens of factories and warehouses over the years with anything from 2 to 500 employees and every single one had milk and coffee available for staff, alot of them yes even including almond and skim milk! it literally blew my mind not just how he was clueless about it, but intentionally made a point about it as if his making a point to his staff so they stop asking him for proper coffee facility. I would bet any money that their is atleast 1 staff member who every day buys milk there only to have is all used by the other staff and only get to make 1 coffee with it, but dangit they need that coffee so they continue to sacrafice everyday and the other employees all assume the company is buying it not that other poor staff member
I understand it's a strain on your ressources, but I miss the super long wan shows a lot. Especially in comparison the show (specifically the discussions) feel a bit rushed and the whole atmosphere changes when you are seemingly on a timer. I also get work and life get in the way and it won't be possible always regardless. Just wanted to voice my opinion on how awesome the 3.5+ hours shows have been for me (and probably many others)
Regarding 1:05:00 -ish: milk is far more common in work kitchens for coffee & other drinks than creamer, in my country. The only creamers generally used are quite low quality, so aren't as common in non-low income contexts.
We're almost a year after release of PC Building Simulator 2. The devs added an LTT-themed shop, but controller support IS STILL MISSING! I have a disability that prevents me from using a mouse and keyboard, and I've been waiting to be able to play PCBS2 since the open beta
Ouch, yeah, can see why a PC-building game wouldn't put controller support high on a priority list, but it still sucks Have you tried the Steam Controller options tho? There's usually Mouse & Keyboard emulation options, and community-made button layouts. Admittedly not the best solution, but a solution
FSR is open to a lot more gpus. DLSS has restrictions for Nvidia own gpus. If FSR covers Nvidia cards it is up to the developer to also include DLSS. Developers that start with DLSS will have to include FSR to cover AMD cards and older Nvidia cards 1:32:55
For typical temperatures, double Celsius and add 30. The REAL conversion is multiply by 9/5 and add 32. But the way I said it is close enough. For high tempuratures, you're better off adding 25 and for low temperatures add 35 instead. But typically adding 30 will be within 2 degrees.
Also this is why you should attempt to cancel if you intend on keeping it every few months. That way you can get an offer to keep what you already planned on keeping.
I have no problem subscribing to channels that I want to keep watching. Do I watch? That’s the nice part, my “feed” is my subscriptions tab, and I get to watch what I want. But I understand that doesn’t help me discover new channels, like LTT, if I don’t look. The recommended videos from YT are really hit or miss (mostly miss) except for a few, very rare times. Hopefully, watching subscribed videos helps? In no uncertain terms will I EVER turn on notifications. I really hope that it doesn’t help the algorithm, because I refuse to use them. No one gets my instant attention except regional/local emergencies, or text messages from family. Everyone else can wait like they did when I was a kid. And I just turned the ‘Answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything’ years old, so I’m young enough, and yet old enough to say noooo.
1:25:14 also, Amazon… they don’t bother to tell you a renewal/cancel date. So suddenly there’s a charge? Even if you change settings, they’ll only email you 3 days in advance. WHAT??
Knowing metric and imperial can be useful, Linus pointed out that a teaspoon is 5ml and a tblspoon is 15ml, metric can "quantify" the more intuitive imperial units, and vice versa.
Luke is pathetic to have lived in Canada all that time and still not have picked up the basic math of the locality!! I was surprised, I actually used to think Luke was way smarter than he is... Just I thought maybe he was trying to appeal to a younger audience. Nope! Lol. I am unsure as to what techniques Linus has been using to put up with Luke. I swear I would be hard pressed not to shut down half of his stupid theories immediately! He reminds me of a 50 yr old divorced lady I know, they are the same in different bodies lol.

Cups and spoons are not intuitive. Nothing is, everything is learned.
@ Yeah I didn't elaborate enough--I meant "intuitive to the person in question". When I said "vice versa" I meant that you can use the system that's more familiar or easier to use in that context to "quantify" the other system.
It’s hilarious with the metric vs imperial, as an American I use both in a similar way to the Canadian way. I don’t use metric as often but when it comes to working on vehicles I usually use metric because most parts are metric but height or distance I use imperial. Cooking is interchangeable for me, and Linus is correct about a quart bs a liter they are so close that in most cases I don’t even worry about the difference.

Metric was introduced in Canada the year I started high school, 1975. It was not taught my entire 4 years but officially Canada is metric. At work we are completely Imperial because our biggest customer is USA. Only Myanmar, Liberia and the US still use Imperial officially but many, many items in the US are in metric as many cars are built jointly by Japenese, Korean and US or Canadian companies. To work on a US built vehicle you need metric tools.
I'm 2 months behind my watch later list and there are so many WAN Show episodes that didn't age well. This one in particular and the one where Linus mentioned having HR problems and they'll continue to make mistakes. Many big oofs. I'm still rooting for them though. We all make mistakes and should be given the opportunity to redeem ourselves.
I am a subscriber who watches just just about every single video y’all upload and still sometimes I find that I have to search out and go directly to your channel to see your latest uploads
1:08:48 I would argue that one big reason that livestream VODs have different patterns to regular videos is that they're *super* long. Fewer people will want to sit down to watch a 2 - 3 hour VOD of a livestream; It's likely to contain much more padding/uninteresting stuff/ignorant hot takes than an edited video would. At least when it's originally live you get the experience of sharing it with others and potentially interacting. Add to that that the important topics will be later available in more easily digestible clips on the sister channel.
That whole milk section was so weird to me, every office I have ever worked in has provided milk, and usually multiple varieties, for people to use in tea and coffee. Is this not normal everywhere? Is it just an Australian thing?
A messed up measuring system... Yep. The US and Europe did do a space mission together, it crashed due to sensors reporting in one system and the computer working in another. I'm an old bloke from Australia and I know that it is 14 pounds to a stone... how many feet to a mile? it is a "totally random" number.
@@bilditup1 Do you know what rhetorical means?.. Thanks for the answer but as I said a "random number" Mr Fahrenheit set his measurements off:- Zero= the coldest place he could find ( must have been a heat wave at the time ) And 100= body temperature, so he took his wife's temperature ( the fact she was sick in bed at the time ment she didn't run away )
1:04:46 I would say in _every_ office in Germany there's milk, just because Germans drink their coffee with milk. So we buy every month at least 12 L of milk. :)
Pretty sure you're thinking of the mars probe that NASA sent that cratered onto mars because lockheed (or one of the military contractors) designed systems in imperial while NASA used metric. In fact, a collaboration between an EU agency and NASA wouldn't have unit conversion problems since both NASA and the EU use metric. You know, because ft-lbs becomes real confusing once you have a system with both angular torque and thrust.
Yeah, that surprised me. We have a decent coffee machine in the office with a proper milk steamer. Rather than force everyone to buy starbucks or similar
The Canadian measurements is so true, I built houses in Canada for years and while all the blue prints where metric but every measurement we took was in imperial. The tape also has both too.
Personal opinion on it. If you are going to cancle the best course is on mobile 1-2 clicks to get in accout (always 1 on pc) 1 click to get to either subscriptions or name of service. Then at the bottom of that screen should be a cancel option. Then for any offers there should be a "do you want to cancel" (yes no). Then come up with a offer. On websites you are allowed 1 offer. On the phone you are allowed a maximum of 3 offers unless if negotiations are happening. For negotiations to happen there needs to be clear intent for negotiations favoring consumers. If a company is found liable of this they are given a fine = to half of the contracted time period. The primary problem i see with this is weekly subscriptions will become a thing so a work arround could be adding a clause for example a minimum of 3 months or a timeframe based on the average amount of time this tatic plays in 2023.
Ya know, the idea of LMG acquiring a different tech publication feels good to me. From whatever little I know of their way of conducting business, they seem to be ethical and I could see LMG/EUC being an umbrella company for tech journalism. While I'm dreaming, an LMG/EUC Venture Capital company would be very, very interesting.
As a former track athlete from the states, it’s usually easier or me to gauge distance in meters, since metric is the standard measurement system for events. I can physically feel when i’ve crossed roughly 1600 meters/1 mile, and can eyeball distance in increments of 400 meters (quarter mile), the standard distance of one track lap
for the dell compensation thing, they need to give the customers the 60% off they promised in the "ad" from what the actual base price was before the "sale" wa posted.

Never commented before but another person remembers Warcraft Counter Strike, truly a golden era (Orc rushing with grenades was so fun when drunk on a UK uni server at a uni I didn't even go to).
One correction on the flowchart: Canada, at least officially, uses metric cups that are exactly 1/4 of a kg (and spoons are measured in metric ml). Only old recipes would be using imperial
As a Brit I’m so confused about the milk in office thing. I don’t think I’ve ever been in an office without milk for tea and coffee. Also wtf is creamer? Sounds gross.
Creamer is typically 10% milk, could also be flavoured milk. Depending on the office they could have 3.5% 2% and 10% milk for tea and coffee. Not all of them though
1:21:50 A lot of military or diplomats overseas will maintain their home country and the local country because you can forward home country packages through special mailing addresses. Paying twice sucks but when my VPN is blocked or when I need local stuff fast it's worth having.
As someone who works in a production industry. The prices for production equipment and lighting control is absolutely justified for how expensive it is, it's to keep the professionals, professional and the amateurs amateur. If the cost of professional equipment is available for just any Joe schmo to pick up then you oversaturate the market and completely decimate the value in production. There's usually a huge team behind a production and overhead is high.
For me personally, the first thing I do after subscribing is disable the notifications, I want the videos to appear in my subscriber feed, I don't care about when the video releases, I'll get to it eventually and if I don't, youtube algorithm will force it in my face anyway.
I think the better answer to jack of all trades vs specialist question is that Start as a generalist with some constraints around what you want to explore and learn Do that for a few years and you will be pretty good at a lot of things THEN Specialize in a Industry rather than one particular skill, that has way more conversion potential than being specialized with only one skill. This works especially well in the tech industry where you see this transition at a company level with many brands They do everything under the sun, then figure out what works best, and laser focus on that industry and customer Obviously being really really good at one skill is still valueable But being decent at multiple skills while being really experienced with one industry is in my opinion more valuable over a shorter time
idea for the dell compensation: the fake discount was 60%, maybe dell have to give them a real 60% discount of the price the customers payed, so about 600 $

Very wholesome.
If you don't mind me asking, what is your profession now?

I was very legitimately mouth wide open in shock when I realized this WAN show was over. I started listening, did laundry, cycled home, did groceries, did some in-house stuff, and was about to continue listening on my PC whilst downloading a demo on steam and realized I had a bare 10 minutes left.
It seems I've grown accustomed to the 4 hour format... UA-cam shorts has a new meaning.

I'm simply amazed by that Canadian units flow chart
One of the best parts is one that was barely mentioned - construction/trades is all imperial. But all engineering is metric. So you'll get blueprints with measurements like 10.2cm, 762mm, 6.092m etc. where you have to convert it to feet/inches (4in, 2'6", 20ft respectively) to know how to measure it with your imperial tape measure
And it perfectly represents the way we use both. Even in Quebec (French province of Canada) we use it exactly the same way.
As a Canadian I never thought about it since it just how we all do it it's pretty funny
It's not even complete either. It forgot the Driving segment. "Are you Driving?" Yes => Time | No => (see other units)
As an Englishman and an avid tea drinker, the thought of not having milk in an office is giving me anxiety! 😅
For coffee too. I swear a ton of people drink milk with their coffee here, I didn’t know that seems to be such an absurd idea in North America?

The refund is the full price we paid for the monitors at the time + interest.
Already been talking with Dell this past week and my money is due in 7-9 days.

Yes there is a few stores in the US that everything is basically perpetually on sale, its just how much is it on sale.
Amazon does that with "prime day." They mark stuff up and then put them on "sale."
Crazy that a 2 hour wan show is now considered short 😂
It's not vertical after all ;)
Too long, should have been 1 hour
My parents bought me a C64 for Christmas 1983, I was 12yo. My dad said, "I think you should learn how to use this, I think they may be important" - I have a Masters in Defence Modelling and Simulation and have, for the last 15yrs, helped the UK MOD educate its personnel in the world of all things technology which an increasingly pivotal in their training and combat experiences.
Luke saying that computer science students should not drop out and learn Cobol was a slap in the face. I was planning exactly that 😂
Hey Linus, I'm the original customer here.
And in my opinion, not allowing counteroffers until the cancelation is complete (so closing the tab rejects the counteroffer) is a part of the solution.
it must be a US thing. In Germany, it is very easy to cancel it. go to cancel > Are you sure? YES> Are you super sure?🤨YES> REALY!😢? YES> fine😞

We are much better infrastrure now than we were 10 years ago.
Good to know we are taking steps

How am I going to be able to listen to wan all week now? I'm going to need to find another podcast for my drives or listen at .25 speed
Such a weird thing that the industry hasn't changed completely to metric yet.
@@OsomoMojoFreakA couple big reasons:
First, all the construction work done on already existing structures etc create issues if the sizes of things were changed to metric.
Second, especially in the materials side there are a LOT of ties to the United States.
In general those are the two reasons for the continued use of imperial measures, continuity and ties to the US.

I think whenever a company breaks the law for monetary reasons.
The main reason the show wasn't that long this time is because Linus has to catch a flight after
Regarding 1:05:00 -ish: milk is far more common in work kitchens for coffee & other drinks than creamer, in my country.
Ouch, yeah, can see why a PC-building game wouldn't put controller support high on a priority list, but it still sucks
Have you tried the Steam Controller options tho? There's usually Mouse & Keyboard emulation options, and community-made button layouts. Admittedly not the best solution, but a solution

@ Yeah I didn't elaborate enough--I meant "intuitive to the person in question". When I said "vice versa" I meant that you can use the system that's more familiar or easier to use in that context to "quantify" the other system.
I never realized how much i appreciate the time stamp guy until i have to come back to the podcast and try to remember where i left off at
It’s hilarious with the metric vs imperial, as an American I use both in a similar way to the Canadian way. I don’t use metric as often but when it comes to working on vehicles I usually use metric because most parts are metric but height or distance I use imperial. Cooking is interchangeable for me, and Linus is correct about a quart bs a liter they are so close that in most cases I don’t even worry about the difference.
working on cars is all fun n games until i run into some aftermarket crap and now I have to pull out my imperial wrenches that i rarely ever use
@@meair or Chrysler cars that have both metric and imperial.
Since it was a fake 50% discount, Dell should be required to hand out an actual 50% discount on all monitors sold... So 2.5 million total
Linus's personal mantra "the show must go on" is the same as what TB used to say as well. Miss him...
same.
Americans don't know that normal countries use milk in their tea and coffee and not "creamer." I wouldn't even know where to buy "creamer."
The measuring flow chart spot on 😂

“We’ve made it” a 2 hour WAN show
Metric was introduced in Canada the year I started high school, 1975.
1:50:00 this aged like fine milk lmao
I'm 2 months behind my watch later list and there are so many WAN Show episodes that didn't age well. This one in particular and the one where Linus mentioned having HR problems and they'll continue to make mistakes. Many big oofs. I'm still rooting for them though. We all make mistakes and should be given the opportunity to redeem ourselves.
As a Brit, it is so weird to me that you *DON’T HAVE MILK* at work 😳
Every single workplace in the UK does 😂🇬🇧
You could walk into ANY UK based business and they would have milk in the fridge, i'd be more surprised if they didn't have milk!
This. I am soo confused by their reaction 😐
u guys help me get thru work every week thank you!
Imagine the Meta team trying to figure out how to livestream the fight in vr to Quest users 😂
It will be 3 seconds of Zuck flattened Musk with the Whale move. Easy just use a shorts clip lol.
Punch out view
They're too busy betting on the fight (I know someone at Meta) :D
I think he said in a former WAN Show that Livestreams actually performe better than regular videos
@@GIHD This was about livestream *VODs* - watching the video of the stream afterwards instead of live.
@Silvar55x Yes sorry I also mean livestream VODs
Milk at work isn't even that unusual in the UK because we mostly use milk in our coffee and tea instead of creamer.
That whole milk section was so weird to me, every office I have ever worked in has provided milk, and usually multiple varieties, for people to use in tea and coffee. Is this not normal everywhere? Is it just an Australian thing?
Nope, we do it in the UK too. I suspect this no milk in the office thing is a North American trend.
@@greywizard2557it's pretty normal in the US too. Canadian then?
Same in New Zealand 😊
@@startedtech I'm Canadian and every office environment I've ever worked in has had milk for coffee!
@NatSparky Must be an LMG thing.
I always wondered why you guys seemed so good at converting units in your head but with that chart it all makes sense now. I kind of like it.
A messed up measuring system... Yep. The US and Europe did do a space mission together, it crashed due to sensors reporting in one system and the computer working in another.
I'm an old bloke from Australia and I know that it is 14 pounds to a stone... how many feet to a mile? it is a "totally random" number.
5280
@@bilditup1 Do you know what rhetorical means?..
Thanks for the answer but as I said a "random number"
Mr Fahrenheit set his measurements off:- Zero= the coldest place he could find ( must have been a heat wave at the time ) And 100= body temperature, so he took his wife's temperature ( the fact she was sick in bed at the time ment she didn't run away )
That is interesting
1:04:46 I would say in _every_ office in Germany there's milk, just because Germans drink their coffee with milk. So we buy every month at least 12 L of milk. :)
Yes you should have milk in the office. Creamer is disgusting, and you aren't a cheap monster...
@@anivicuno9473 Ooops! I think you may have replied to the wrong comment! ;-)
Every office in Canada that I've worked at has had milk, or at the very least, creamer. Even the one that made me bring my own coffee pods had milk.
I work in Vancouver, we have milk and cream for our coffee/tea.
Not sure how I'd feel about not even having that available at my office lol.
LTX has turned into a once a year Tech Disneyland. On my bucket list from New Zealand!!
I have never laughed so hard in public transport until the Canadian Measurement Flowchart.
Just... wat?
Little surprised Linus doesn't see this. But a 2 hour steam is different from a 20 minute video. That why the views are different.
The Canadian measurements is so true, I built houses in Canada for years and while all the blue prints where metric but every measurement we took was in imperial. The tape also has both too.
Neat part about the European dry wall. We normally aren’t using dry wall. We are building ‘real houses‘ 😂
I love how we spent 15 minutes talking about the zucc vs Elon 😂
"Get milk for work? Why??" In case you are punished in a game to slam hot sauce..
The devs probably bought a bunch of LTT merch and photo-scanned them into the game. 😏👍
for the dell compensation thing, they need to give the customers the 60% off they promised in the "ad" from what the actual base price was before the "sale" wa posted.
Thanks
Wait! Did you both purposely drink from your LTT drink bottles on purpose after giving such a take on the pointed issue of the day.... Is this LTT doing some sneaky product placement... 29:40
CHIEF VISION OFFICER GOES BALLISTIC ON STREAM 1:05:16
56:01 I love how Linus is shitting on people thinking Arc will go ahead and then after Wan show releases tech news with clickbait arc discontinued. Like omg people are so dumb for doing this but I'm going to go do it too.
My mom kept reactivating my amazon prime years ago simply by opening a video on prime video and just accepting whatever showed up. i had no idea thats what kept forcing me to go through the 90001 pages of "please dont stop prime"
1:34:22 Dan screaming YES in the background to Eve Excel support
Never commented before but another person remembers Warcraft Counter Strike, truly a golden era (Orc rushing with grenades was so fun when drunk on a UK uni server at a uni I didn't even go to).
One correction on the flowchart: Canada, at least officially, uses metric cups that are exactly 1/4 of a kg (and spoons are measured in metric ml). Only old recipes would be using imperial
Luke's level of pedanticness in the conversion conversation is me and I'm here for it
As a Brit I’m so confused about the milk in office thing.
@@avalanche1990Thank you for confirming it’s gross.
@Fraser0692 could also be half and half which is 2% milk and 10% milk.
I loved the framework tour vid, top notch, it’ll be evergreen
Linus I really love watching your show while having some drinks.
I think the better answer to jack of all trades vs specialist question is that
Start as a generalist with some constraints around what you want to explore and learn
Do that for a few years and you will be pretty good at a lot of things
THEN
Specialize in a Industry rather than one particular skill, that has way more conversion potential than being specialized with only one skill.
This works especially well in the tech industry where you see this transition at a company level with many brands
They do everything under the sun, then figure out what works best, and laser focus on that industry and customer
Obviously being really really good at one skill is still valueable
But being decent at multiple skills while being really experienced with one industry is in my opinion more valuable over a shorter time
idea for the dell compensation: the fake discount was 60%, maybe dell have to give them a real 60% discount of the price the customers payed, so about 600 $
You guys forgot about our unit for long driving distances
"How far away is kamloops from Vancouver?"
"About 3.5 hours"
Honestly I'm still not used to i9 being there. I'm so used to i7 being top tier followed by i7 extreme.
