"One of these is not like the others" yes Death isn't like the others, because both the Devil and the Harlot are associated with immorality, Death is fundamentally amoral, having no discernment between the righteous and unrighteous, all souls are reaped equally.

Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! It honestly feels like I already "blew up", as every part of my metrics pointed to another 6 months of consistency for eclipsing 1,000 subscribers. The unique factor of the Aquatic Horror video must have just caught on with the algorithm and things went a bit wild from there. I'm just glad my other stuff is getting viewed, too.
If you're interested in making stuff like this, just start. You don't have to start uploading but get the repetitions in and get comfortable with the format. Write a longgg essay, record, edit, learn from it, repeat. I did the werewolf video almost on a whim and immediately started on the found footage video which took over 2 years to finish. Then it just went from there, major advances in efficiency, minor advances in delivery and editing with each upload. All creative work is iterative like that, make mistakes, get a bit better, and just keep going. I'm going back and doing subtitles for my older videos and realizing how my found footage documentary, that I thought was a magnum opus kind of deal given the amount of time and effort it took, is actually pretty hard to watch and I kind of want to re-do it. But it's in the past now, so gotta take that as a learning lesson and move forward.

One of my favorite anthologies is Necronomicon (1993)

Thanks for watching! I believe that one just narrowly didn’t make it into the “80’s boom” portion. Another example of great directors collaborating and now that I think about it I could have put a portion for it next to the discussion of adapting works from famous authors in the “based on” section. I haven’t seen it in the last ten years but I remember having a good time watching it.

Well done sir. Btw, you forgot "Waxworks" from 1924. As a massive horror anthology fan, I have to list some of my favorites that you didn't mention (I realize that you tried to only really list the landmark ones). Here's some that I recommend to your viewers:
Dead of Night (1977) (Directed by Dan Curtis and featuring a very scary "Bobby" segment)
Nightmares (1983) (especially for The Bishop of Battles segment)
From Beyond the Grave (1974) (Amicus)
Screamtime (1983) (2 segments are some of the scariest ones in ALL anthologies)
Creepshow 2 (1987) (The Raft segment is legendary)
The Vault of Horror (1973) (Amicus)
    The Torture Garden (1967) (Amicus)
The House That Dripped Blood (1971) (Amicus)
    Tales That Witness Madness (1973)
    The Monster Club (1971)
    The Uncanny (1977)
The House of the Dead (1978)
Screams of a Winter Night (1979)
    Deadtime Stories (1986)
    After Midnight (1989)
    Two Evil Eyes (1990)
    The Willies (1990)
    Body Bags (1993)
    Trilogy of Terror II (1996)
    Quicksilver Highway (1997)
    Campfire Tales (1997)
    Terror Track (2000)
    Holidays (2016)

      Hey, thanks for watching!
Generally when I exclude a film, it’s because I do my best to stave off negativity unless it serves the purpose of the story at hand, or the film didn’t stick out enough or have too much importance that it needed to be discussed.
I mentioned all Amicus-Subotsky films in the video, cutting my voice lines to save time and instead using graphics to lay them out in order, and then including Subotsky’s independently produced anthologies The Uncanny alongside Cats Eye which would later have its own part in the 80’s boom portion.
Initially I did cover multiple amicus films, though. It was going to be Dr. Terrors House of Horrors, Asylum, and Tales from the Crypt. I had a portion dedicated to Creepshow 2 as well. The first draft of the script also had detailed discussions on every film and every films segments, but I put it into a word counter and it told me it would take over 2 hours to read aloud. I aimed for 35-50 minutes with this one, so I had to start cutting. First large chunks like scrapping portions all-together, then smaller parts like the discussions on individual anthology segments.
Out of the films you listed, I believe only three were nixed from my watchlist. I gave myself two months to research, write, film, and edit the video, and the research part took 6 weeks of that time, as I was meticulously taking notes, and making sure I left no stone unturned with anthology movies I had missed. Ultimately, The Willies, Nightmares, and After Midnight were put to the side in favor of other watches. And honestly this is the first I’ve seen mention of Terror Tract and it looks neat, so thanks for that rec!
But nevertheless, these were positioned within a group of about 30 entries, and time was ticking. I ended up having two days to record and regretfully only 10 days to edit. I chose to go with watching more popular foreign anthologies to make sure I didn’t miss much, as I try not to have too much of an American-centric view on film. This is where I found Rampo Noir and Shoguns Joy of Torture, and I’m glad I did.
Also, I was too busy with going over the list and forgot you mentioned Waxworks. I actually watched it twice, and it had a lot of similar talking points between it and Eerie Tales. Germany, Conrad, simplicity, silent film and expressionism, all that. But I couldn’t help but feel it was more of a romance thriller than a horror film. Eerie tales focused on ghosts and death and had a wraparound of mischievous incarnations of the devil and death (and again, almost randomly, a “harlot”.) So when I went into Waxworks and it was a guy penning stories about his and his wife’s love persevering, featuring a bit of magic elements here and there, it felt like the horror tag might have been a mislabel. It didn’t help that nearly every site said a segment was about “Jack the Ripper” when it was actually about Spring-Heeled Jack, in a segment that was the closest to horror the film got, but also was only 2 minutes or so long in a feature length anthology.
I believe the talking points of the above paragraph were in the initial first draft, but obviously got cut as in the script it feels more like a random tangent just to bicker semantics over what could be classified as horror in the first place, which again, is a bit too negative for my liking. So I went from the Eerie Tales section straight into the Great Depression/WW2 joke segway into Dead of Night.
Again, thanks for watching! Just thought I’d give a few explanations as I know what it feels like. Watching a complete chronicling of the history of werewolf films and they just don’t mention the stellar parody werewolf movie Full Moon High directed by Larry Cohen and featuring Adum Arkin as the protagonist who turns into a werewolf after getting bit on the ass.
Sorry it took a bit for a reply, giving myself yet again less time to get the next video out in the hopes that UA-cam favors back-to-back months, so I’ve been knee deep in Slashers the past two weeks.

"Dead Of Night" is an absolute classic early horror anthology. Minus The Golfer Story, ALL the rest of them have something really creepy about them! And man, that Dummy Hugo is TERRIFYING!!! I am a HUGE fan of all the Amicus anthology movies, my fave being "The House That Dripped Blood", especially for the first story. I have often thought about Dominique sitting in the dark in the corner of my bedroom grinning at me. Shivers!!!! My favourite all time segment of any anthology has got to be Mario Bava's "A Drop Of Water". Absolutely TERRIFYING and haunting!!!!!!! Great video pal!

Thanks for watching! I agree. I keep negativity out of my videos, but don’t mind being negative in the comments. That movie was a huge let down for me. I thought it was going to be a vehicle for female directors in the horror-sphere. To later hear one of the directors featured in the anthology say they don’t even like the horror genre, just shows they weren’t actually trying to give exposure to women. It could have been something awesome.

    • @Houndovhell
      @Houndovhell  3 місяці тому +1

Yeah, after i posted the reply i basically saw an immediate flatline in impressions for all of my videos for using possibly a no-no word. So I waited a few hours to make sure you saw it and then deleted to see if the impressions/views would go back to normal, and they haven’t. Went from 400-500 views an hour to 20-30 if I’m lucky, right after responding. Not complaining about the numbers, more-so the non-transparency leading me to be confused as to why it happened with no direct answer other than the correlation between my comment and the time the flatline occurred.
I can’t even think of flowery words that could mask it well enough by youtube standards, but I’ll try.
A lot of the entries in ABCs of Death 1, feel as though they were made solely for the directors explicit -amusement- if you catch my drift. Like solo amusement that one would typically, and hopefully, engage in the privacy of their own home.

When I was researching werewolf films, nearly everything 1940’s or earlier that wasn’t Universal or Werewolf of London was listed as “lost media”. It sucks celluloid just bursts into flames if you look at it wrong. So much history lost due to unforeseen accidents and mild carelessness.
