Why do they always put a big spare tire on the boom? I've been wondering about that since I first saw a Dragline working in Arkansas back in the 60's. LOL
@ Chuck Miller UA-cam expert dragline operator. Sitting behind your laptop commenting. If you don't cast the bucket how the heck do you clean out the middle of the river then?? People all look at video's of big musky and think small draglines work the same way. Well they don't. Big musky does not have freefall winches they are power lowering. They dont even have footbrakes for the drums. You can't toss away your bucket on big musky its all so slooooooooow and boring. With a smal dragline you can really show your skills. Working the free fall winches operated by your feet together with the hand levers. If you can run that, you're a real dragline operator. Big musky might be big but can be operated by any grandma. If you pull away hand and feet on a small dragline everything will fall down and your winches roll off and all the wires will be tangeled. With big musky the bucket would just hang there and everything stops.

It prevents the cable from slapping on the top side of the boom. Namaste
Not making much progress when you cast the bucket pass the boom tip.
Please explain why that is ? Namaste
