    I've always been interested in DMX, so this is cool

    Firstly, that light is a monster. Secondly, great choice of synth, I love my EX5R.

      Thanks for watching - EX5 is my go-to synth. :-)

    That's an awfully nice light!
    Brilliant project as usual, Floyd.

    Nice and simple. Can see that being very useful with a sequencer\DAW if youve got many lights.
    Cheers Floyd ✌️

      Thanks for watching, once again :-)
      I've built myself up an audience that absolutely hates seeing me earning a bit of money for my work here, so unless the views on this video unexpectedly change trends (or I suddenly become a Rock Star), I'm afraid that won't happen. ;-)

    I would say that 99.9% of stage lighting is controlled by a lighting console which generates DMX512 on several output ports, or via ethernet, using several protocols such as ArtNet (free) or MA-Net. All of these consoles have a Midi interface (in, out and thru) and at least one Midi table, mostly programmable, which converts simple or complex Midi codes to commands or macros.
    Today consoles manufacturers provide PC offline editors to simulate their consoles behaviours or to use as cheap backup in real shows, in this case we'll use Midi over USB. So, spending peanuts (a few set of cables) anybody can control stage lights. I'm familiar with this tech, I've installed and setup many stage rigs with a single Nanopad controlling complete shows. If you need less than 512 channels (1 universe) everything is free !

      Thanks for watching - no doubt, you're absolutely right, but then this also is not the right video for you to watch ;-) I'm just a hobbyist and so are most of my viewers, and tinkering with DIY stuff to figure out how something works is fun in itself.

      @@mr_floydst Right ! I watched your video because I was searching for Midi synths built arround light platforms such as arduino, I'm a hobbyist as well and I'm pretty sure you'll agree that simpler is better. This is only another way to use Midi to control DMX equipments. Cheers.

    Cool vid! Do you know if you can use DMX mixers as a midi controller?

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! Yes, that's possible if your DMX mixer has a MIDI jack.
      You can also buy a slightly more expensive DMX/USB adapter ( thmn.to/thoprod/567717?offid=1&affid=330 ) and use that to convert DMX in to MIDI out using QLC+.

    I don't have a stage, but I do have a way too long string of RGB "christmas" lights. It uses an IR controller and won't be too hard too reverse engineer. But I like constant subtle light, MIDI control would freak me out.

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching! Yes, I guess it's a matter of personal tastes, as it always is. ;-) Building a MIDI controlled IR remote is a great idea though.

    • @butsukete1806
      @butsukete1806 6 місяців тому

      As long as you know what you are trying to control. IR protocols tend to be brand specific.

    Thanks, please do a video on controlling synth realtime with knobs via sysex. My yammy cs1x uses these for vca, LFO etc. I was hoping I could do with ccs but nope its just sysex. I'm lost

    i know about DMX, but i'm trying to get into some low budget laser systems, which use ILDA. But there is so little information about it out there! Have you explored ILDA?

    • @mr_floydst
      @mr_floydst  6 місяців тому

      Hi, thanks for watching - this is the first time I tried stage lights at all ;-) I'll take a look into ILDA, but at the moment, I can't share any experiences.
