The speed, precision and brutality that is Slayer. I love it. Greatest thrash band ever. RIP Jeff
I did security for three different metal shows. One was Cannibal Corpse, another was Amon Amarth and the third was Behemoth, and they were BY FAR the best shows I've ever done security for. The bands and the fans as well are so respectful, they take care of each other. The amount of times I've seen someone hit the floor in a pit, and the unwritten rule is to pick them up. A bunch of people will scramble to grab you or create a shield around you with their own bodies is astonishing. The metal scene is a truly beautiful thing. People all wearing different band shirts from different metal genres, from different countries, and nobody fighting. Nobody is more metal than anyone else. They're all family. Beautiful.
Well stated. Pits are to get energy, frustration, and anger out, but you respect all as they respect you. Only very few times (in my 35 years in pits) did I ever see intentional violence - and let me tell you - it doesn't end well for the perp. The family in the pit sees all and figures it out and exacts their own brand of revenge - rather efficiently, I might add.
There will always be unintentional injuries - broken bones, bruises, bloody (insert body part title here) lips, black eyes - all of it. The protection you see from strangers when someone takes a hard one is what gives me faith in humanity. And thank you for working security at events like this - everyone always respects security. 🤘
Your description is perfect. That's exactly what it is. That's why i'll always love metal.
there are psychos running around every scene and they do some damage sometimes, but we usually spot and take care of those guys pretty quick
Te admiro🙌🏼 son 3 bandas que me encantan y nunca las he podido ver en vivo jaja pero algún día 🤘🏽
Dave Lombardo best drummer ever!!!!! War ensemble sofia next
Check out the new Mr. Bungle. Lombardo at his best
Dave and Nick Fucking Menza! RIP Nick!
And Joey Jordison in second place, maybe?
Игор Кавалера минимум не хуже.
Igor from Sepultura is close
Dave Lombard one of the best thrash drummers there is. SLAYER has held true to their music mean, nasty, an brutal. Answer to your ? about mosh pits your tell your bros were to meet after the shows. I'm glad your enjoying this live cuz now they have retired, also R.I.P. JEFF HANNEMAN
Jeff was slayer, RIP.
@@bretthouston5448 And the other 3...
@@octaviussludberry9016 yeah from an oblivious standpoint. But Jeff was the sole writer and composer of Slayers most popular and commercially successful songs, the most memorable actually being banned in multiple countries. So I'll say it again, Jeff was, is, and will always be SLAYERRR!!
FUCKIN BAR NONE!!!!!!\M/
Dave Lombardo was the reason slayer was so badass
One of the best thrash metal songs ever made 🤘
THE best Thrash song ever made.
THE best. Whatever you think or feel about thrash metal. This is THE best thrash song ever made.
Dave Lombardo doesn't warm up before he goes on stage and we will always love and miss you thanks for your gift of music you have left us all RIP JEFF 💔😭🤘🍻🥂🍷🍷🍸🍸🥃🥃
RIP Punctuation!!!!
Slayer are brutal, and I live for it! Slaytanic Wehrmacht since the 80's!
me too!
Dave Lombardo was, is, and will be the beast drummer. RIP Jeff Hanemman
Игор Кавалера был не хуже.
Among the most influential and favorite records of all time "Reign in Blood!" where this track is from.... that speed is courtesy of Dave Lombardo, aside King/ Hanneman and Araya
South of Heaven was their best but Angel of Death has the most epic breakdown ever!!!
@@MaddogJones To you.
The album that got me into slayer!!!
Dave Lombardo is the Neil Peart of thrash metal!
Very well put...
Good point!
I’ve seen them front row four times. You have to be a warrior to be in a Slayer Pit.
they don't have rows at slayer shows.🤘
Same here bro. Only way to see them. Did security for them here in New York. Fn Great
Exactly. I usually leave bloody but it’s fun as hell
Saw them in Chicago at Riot Fest. Testament and Anthrax had already played earlier. I’ve been in some crazy mosh pits over the years, but nothing has matched Slayer
Upfront at a Slayer show is a prison riot
Definitely, Dave Lombardo is phenomenal, absolute savage and spectacular drummer, he plays all kinds of different music and is super versatile.
One of THE BEST SONGS EVER!!!!!!🤘🤘💯💯
Only time I ever had my nose broken was at a Slayer show in 1988. I was a bloody mess, but damn it was fun!
Been in the pit for this song for 20 years, when this song its the crowd instantly goes insane. Every year they came to Canada, I went. I'd be hurting for a week after.
That's how fuckin' heavy this song is. It's makes Canadiens violent. 😂
Can attest to that me and my brother went to Slayer in 2019 in Edmonton, crowd went wild and so did the mosh pit
Dave Lombardo are a Legend in drummer world! like Gene Hoglan from Death .
Nowhere even close.
I spent years 18-30 in a pit as much as possible. There are three bands where I knew for a fact I was going home with bruises. Dying Fetus, Pig Destroyer and Slayer.
Once I get there and the music hits me just right, I am going in.
Pig Destroyer must have been nuts! Never saw them live. Slayer was brutal but Pantera pits take the cake IMO.
@Palladin Odessa absolutely one of the most brutal pits I've ever been in. If you ever have the chance, I'd highly recommend it.
This has been my favorite song for years. My wife hates it when I play it in the car if she's driving. She wants to hit triple digit speeds listening to this.
The bloodiest pit I was ever in was Slayer, 1988 south of heaven tour at the Hollywood Palladium. You usually go with a group and meet up at vehicles after
Right on!! Saw Slayer mid ‘80s (it’s a blur, lol) at the old Grand Olympic Auditorium in DTLA (DRI and Metal Church opened) man it was a slugfest… but Slayer dominated..
My cousin told my parents I was staying with him for the night and took me to see Slayer back in 88 on the south of heaven tour. I was 11 and was nervous and excited. I was probably the only kid in 6th grade with a slayer shirt.
Saw them in Zurich, Switzerland, with Nuclear Assault as support act. The entire hall was one freaking moshpit.
I saw that tour in Houston Texas
After watching videos of Slayer performing live I'm usually left wondering if there is ever going to be another band that comes close to them. They were truly one of the titans of metal and I was really glad to get to see them on their farewell tour. I'd seen them before but their last tour was poignant. Tom took time at the end of the show just to look around the crowd, like he was saying goodbye as well. Happy retirement Slayer!
SLAYER!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
We went to Slayer and basically just met at the car at the end of the show :D I've studied music for a long time and these guys are genius. They're the masters of the transition, all of their riffs are hard driving and symbiotic. The change in tempo is what binds it. True Thrash Metal MASTERY!!! Dave Lombardo greatest drummer EVER :) King and Hanneman on dual lead guitars, watching them trade solos back and forth in the metal of a high speed solo, just amazing. These guys were meant to find each other :)
Best thrash song ever written, by the late great Jeff 'Heineken' Hanneman 👌
I remember seeing Dave Lombardo washing his classic nova in his front yard in South gate California. I wanted to stop and get his autograph but I was to shy. Best drummer ever.
I went to a Slayer show back in 1986 in Corpus Christi TX with friends and I still can't find them to this day... 😂
Dave Lombardo is a beast on the drums.
4.23 - those drums tho
6.21 - that breakdown tho (one of the most iconic in all of metal) - properly supported by bass throughout here (Araya may have forgotten to sing at a few points, but not the bass). Chunky sound!
8.55 - that dual guitar battle tho
9.43 - THAT DRUM BREAK (game over)
Think this may be the best live version have ever heard of this song. Thanks for posting. Great sound quality. MEATY
Was lucky enough to see them on their 06/06/06 show (pushed back to a later date due to someone being sick), no less than two circle pits going at all time, got nearly blinded by a girl who whipped her sweat soaked hair next to me and hit me square in the eye. If you were anywhere on the floor it was constant madness, as I was no longer as young as i used to be i had to leave the floor a couple of times to take a break! Really amazing was the age diversity at the show. Old metal heads like myself, to a whole new younger generation that knew all the lyrics to the classics, made me smile that Slayer was just as slamming for newer generations as it was for me back in the 80's...
Remember going to their last ever show in Glasgow, Scotland, ohh man, the emotions...
That night, wow !!!
Slayer was first band I know of to bring their own security to work with the venues. The venues security typically didn’t know what they were seeing and would over react so this was their way of protecting their fans
Love the chemistry you two have with each other.
Dave Lombardo, the original drummer for Slayer, the one in this video, is recognized as the greatest drummer to live today. He was number 2 on top ten drummers behind Neal Peart of Rush. Unfortunately, Neal has left us. So, now it is Dave. BTW, he is now playing in MR. Bungle, with S.O.D/Anthrax guitarist, Scott Ian, and Mike Patton, singer or Mr.Bungle/Faith No More, etc. etc. This is for those in the video. I know most know this stuff already.
The most enthusiastic reaction I've ever seen! 🖤🤘🤘🤘
Saw them at the beginning of there final tour in Orlando. There was no seats, just 12,000 people in a field all moshing at the same time!!! I'm a 48 year old Slayer fan and will be till the Angel of Death comes for me.
A quick interesting fact on the recording of the Reign in blood album, how it got to such high levels of speed and the very short length of the album. Tom Araya said “The only thing was that we told Dave to speed it up: 'C'mon, let's pick it up a bit!” And with that one simple instruction, Reign In Blood was trimmed from an already compact 34 minutes to an unfathomably terse 28 minutes and 58 seconds. Slayer actually asked Rick Ruben if they needed to record more songs to lengthen the album time. His answer was "it had 10 songs, verses, choruses, leads and that constituted an album!". The rest is history 🤘
I met these guys WAY back in 1986 and I've seen them 10+ times over the years. One time at a small place in Detroit called The Fillmore, they only seats we could get were up in the balcony and the crowd got so insane you could feel the balcony bouncing... no shit. There were wall to wall seats and people still formed pits, jumping over chairs that were bolted to the floor and beating the hell out of each other. it was one of the best shows I'd seen by them.
I met them in 1985 because I HEARD of them and said, Ok lets go meet them at the in store record signing..... but I was into Motely Crue and Ratt back then....so I WAS SCARED! LOL BUt I bought , I think Haunting the Chapel and that is what got me into Slayer.
I was at one of those shows....86 maybe, with the bolted down chairs. Somehow they ended up in a pile at the back of the room. Whole rows of them being drug around haha.
Absolute Mayhem and they're tight as hell! Lombardo kills the drums! Insane!
ahhh..... the soothing sounds of slayer. great job guys!!
Ive seen them live so many times I lost count. First time I was 16 years old and saw them in a small club named L'amores in NYC. That was 1985. And EVERY show was that intense. Man I miss the 80s Metal shows.
I remember seeing them back in the 80s at a small place in San Antonio Texas called RANDY'S it was the Reign in Blood tour. I got to see them a total of 22 times to the very end tour. FUCKIN SLAAAAYERRR 🤘🖕🤘
saw them on same Tour in Dallas.
You must have seen Pantera a ton as well - I'm jelly...
Dave has no equal, he is the machine and the king of the double bass. Watch his drumcams!
This is the song they played during the intermission at a Violence show at the Stone SF and the crowd started a pit…..during the intermission.
I've seen Slayer twice. Once in my teens and once in my late 30's and the floor is more hectic than videos look probably 2 of the best top 5 times in my life was a Slayer Pit 💪🤘🤘🤘
the father of double bass drum..,
Dave Lombardo ...!!! 🤘🤘
I've been to one of there concert, it's amazing, when you're a big fan of heavy metal music. It's an awesome feel when at one of them concert. Wild.
I’ve been to heavy Montreal festival twice and let me tell you once you’re there everyone’s your friend
So if you lose the people you went with it doesn’t really matter
One of the best drummers in metal awesome drummer
You find them stood by the paramedic at the end of the show🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is a whole other level of metal 🤘
Admittedly, it was a lot harder before literally everyone had a phone. But generally, Brownian motion took care of it (look it up). Plus there was always an excellent chance of running into people you know anyway.
As for your other question, it depends who you're going to see, who you're going with, and what and how much you're on, if you get me.
Btw, next for you is Raining Blood.
All of his Slayer's songs are great. I have seen them six times live starting in 1990. The pits are fun. Been to hundreds of punk, hardcore and metal shows. Never really been hurt in a pit. Circle pits are the best.
Watched this just so I could see y'all react to the drum break... you didn't disappoint!
Met Kerry king back in the day at BC Rich guitars in cali he was picking up two guitars for a picture with him and Bernie Rico senior
I saw them o. Thus tour in 2006 with Lamb if God and Children of Bodom! It was one of the best concerts ever!
Columbia records the distributor for Def Jam , the label slayer (yes a thrash metal band on a mostlh Rap and R and B label) was on at the time the album this song was on ) refused to release the album because of the Subject matter of the song. this song is about the horrible experiments done by the Nazi's on concentration camp prisoners in Auschwitz concentration camp by Dr. mengele who was called the Angel of Death. Geffen Records made a deal with Columbia and Def jam to eventually realise by the album Reign in Blood got virtually no radio airplay yet still broke the top 200, because well Slayer fans.(see Jim Bride's stand up stuff about slayer)
Also this song was the theme for the Mohawk aka the Spider Gremlins in Gremlins 2.
The drummer was from cuba, and the vocalist tom araya from Chile 🇨🇱. Im 49 ols school of death metal
They call Dave Lombardo ‘The Godfather of the Double Bass Drums!!!!!!\M/
Still killing it you 2 don't stop hard to keep up keep rocking your my favs susie looks good in pink
Now that's how one should perform a metal song!!!!
I went to a concert in Helsinki.. Anthrax, Lamb of God and Slayer... holy shit!!!
I've been a fan since the very beginning. Love SLAYER!!!!
Lombardo is absolutely a beast and King of thrash metal drums! Are you kidding me? This came out in the early 80s. Nobody was doing anything like this back then,,NOBODY!
I saw them when they toured for this record!!!Ridiculous good!
Back in the day you planned a meeting place for after the show. Now, its just cell phones. My first Slayer show was actually the infamous one....1988 "Seat Cushion Riot" at Felt Forum (the smaller venue under MSG now called the Theater at MSG) AS SOON AS THE FIRST NOTE WAS PLAYED I LOST ALL MY FRIENDS, I was pushed all over and backwards into the seats, I was so smushed and didn't know how to handle a pit back then, SO i stood up on a rail behind the sound stage and something hit me. A seat cushion. I turned around and seat cushions were being thrown all around the theater! SLayer was banned there for 25 years. I went to the first show they were able to play there after the ban was lifted
You never go to a concert alone. Mosh pits aren't the whole crowd either. They're sections that just start up. Worst case scenario if you get away from your friends, you can always meet back up at the car.
Dave Lombardo has Always been 1 of the most underrated drummers .. Why is that ? He's got to have the record for the fastest double bass on drums ! And always tight and on time ! You both witnessed it !
Hi! I said back in 88' that Dave Lombardo is the fastest has the fastest Double bass drum! It still stands!!
Dave Lombardo is a beast indeed
Lol I went to the the rolling stones with my friend at Wembley stadium back in the 80's lost my friend about 15 mins after arriving. Spent the rest of the evening looking for him
In the late 80's and 90's we just through elbows, punches and just fucking released. Guys used to form a circle, those who stood around the perimeter picked up people and saved them. We also shoved people back in if they weren't hurt. Leaving with a bloody face, or fucked up was a badge of fucking courage. College jocks invaded in the mid 90's and fucked shit up. They just beat people up. We didn't do that. They fucked it up. We all helped each other after. It was like going to war with your brothers
Specific places at the venue or on the floor, and more often just try to hang tight together, depends on how many you go with and where it's at.
Great choice!
Dave is a Metal legend!
And this is one the Thrash anthems!
great album. it scared me a little as a youngster but it was speed metal with rhythm...so I liked it!🙂
Back in the early 90's being at festivals I usually ended up with a bunch of new friends
Finding people at these shows, pre-cell phones, I'd tell them, you know where the car is
Dave is a god damn machine and i love it.
The man is a fucking monster on the drums.
Slayers one of the best thrash metal bands that I know that I've heard in my 52 years of living actually angel of death is the first song I've ever heard from them and the rest they say it's history but there's one song you guys need to play or them g you need to suggest of course raining blood. Now that will be good especially the original live version 80 what 88 89 year era where they did that and they did another song on you know on top of it it was raining blood and then some other song but suggest that song to them and I'm sure they'll love it. And yes RIP Jeff. P.S. you know my babysitter I know you don't know me just giving out my age tells you how old I've been listening to metal or how long I've been listening to metal and it all started with blizzard of Oz and diary of a madman. So I've been listening to metal for a very long time and I don't listen to nothing but metal. Holy s*** I'm old LOL
Black magic is the song.
@@bobbyball77 well there's quite a few Slayer songs that choose from you know Angel of death ran in blood seasons of the abyss and even the world painted blood you know you know there's a whole bunch of great Slayer songs so I mean you know but the ones I grew up with you know seasons of the best and you know raining blood and you know Angel of death you know where the songs you know at that time were you know were were it but then you know they came out with world painted blood that song is that song is a really f****** good song badass song so you know but slayers always been one of my favorite thrash bands you know you know my all time is Pantera you know I'm a huge dimebag fan you know I f****** cried when he f****** got murdered on stage every every December 8th I have a shirt that has his has a picture of his tombstone on it and I wear it every December 8th you know you know the day he got murdered f****** total f****** tragedy total tragedy and then with the Vinny you know when his anniversary is calm you know I got a Vinny shirt I wear and then I listen to some hell yeah you know and listen to that you know just in memory so but Pantera is like one of my all-time favorite yeah I said in one of my comments I wish I was already for that f****** band just to tell the stories you know the backstage stories and all this other crap and you know one giant party and after another and everything and especially dimebag and his sense his warp sense of humor you know dime time and everything else you know and I'm still trying to figure out how to make a black tooth Grin. So but they'll yeah they will always be my favorite but slayers up there Metallica's up there I see Metallica God knows how many times I saw him in 89 is a matter of fact when they came down in West Palm you know like maybe six shows after the the Seattle show where they filmed it you know I actually can go on UA-cam and look it up you know look up West Palm Beach you know Metallica West Palm Beach 1989 tour and I'll give you the set the set list on what they played and everything and that concert was awesome. Queensryche actually opened up from Metallica on that tour and they were pretty awesome too so.
Saw them live for the first time 1991 in Munich. Can´t even remember how i got there as a 15yr old teenager :)
9:30 club D.C 06 tour . In the pit the entire show I couldn't take a break until they played South Of Heaven . I was bruised head to toe ...
FUCKINGGGGG SLAYERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Muy creíble que vayan a reaccionar por primera vez a Slayer aún cuando tienen una banda de metal.
"how you meet your friends?" I don't remember 😏 .The important is to wake up next day, preferably at home 😄
Been listening to this for almost 40 years
The rumor I heard was he was on speed to drum that way. One of the greatest metal bands ever.
I went and saw slayer in Seattle at quest field and I was in the mosh pit the entire show and it was vicious and brutal and luckily I was sober and could hang with everyone unlike two of my friends who were wasted😂
Dave is a legend!
Slayer la banda más chacal del planeta 🤘🤘
Angel of Drums : Dave Lombardo
(RIP Jeff Hanneman)
Dave Lombardo feet are like an MG-42…a German WW2 era machine gun with a firing rate of 1500 rounds a minute.
I believe he can achieve that.
nice intro!!!
💚
Slayer + Sepultura = Epic
Dave killed it on this one ...godDAMN
when these guys first came out, places refused to have their concerts unless there was extreme tight security and all. even then...they had a hard time getting places to accept them.🙂
slayer in 86 or 88 on the south of heaven tour.............jumped off and asked security first............say said " get up, jump the fuck off, get caught, maybe and leave and were are fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
Raining Blood performed on Conan is amazing...the people in the audience must have been a little taken aback. But they were psyched.
Finally!! You should do some more Slayer songs, Maybe Silent Scream . Hallowed Point . or God Hates us all :)
Hallowed Point! Yes!
Dead Skin Mask
React to their song War Ensemble (the official video)...it's Slayer first official music video, came out 1990.
And to think Tom and Kerry only paid Dave (drummer) less than half what they got ....
Yep meeting points, my friends and I immediately got separated in slayer's mosh😂
Actually yes I did, I worked mosh pits predominantly in my event security career at Emos in Atx and they were always a blast! Never got hurt, everyone was cool and I myself mosh out to this day haha
You should do Raining blood from the still reigning and "blood" rains on them. I would also recommend Hell awaits from the same concert unholy alliance
