If someone tries hard, maybe they will still be able to buy the 2022 FJ Cruiser Final Edition. I am a happy owner of one. When I saw the first photos of the new Landcruiser two months after buying the FJ, I was concerned whether I was in too much of a hurry. But after your video in which you very nicely discussed all the pros and cons of both models, I am happy with my choice. I replaced the bad bulbs in the FJ with LED ones and it's quite good now. The main reason I chose FJ was its simplicity and legendary failure-free operation. I wish all owners of new LandCruisers that they will be as trouble-free as the FJ. But looking at the direction in which today's automotive industry is heading, I have great concerns about this and I chose older designs, perhaps more fuel-consuming, but giving me a greater likelihood that I will not be a regular visitor to repair shops.
Thank you for doing this! As much as I love and have taken care of my 2007 FJ, time is time and takes its toll. Will be looking to buy a Land Cruiser. Congrats on your achievement! Be well.
Love the tech and interior but a distraction from the purpose of off roading…enjoying the scenery. Still in love with our 2011. We’re at 187K miles and still running like a champ. Rock on fellow FJ owners!
Congrats on the exam . Best regards from Bulgaria . Since last year i drive FJ and I am in love :) even that i had to buy new rear def from Japan. Have a great 2024
I have a 2007 FJ with 289K and keeping it the family forever. Also recently repainted and installed backup camera. Runs great so does the A/C. Considering the LC as an additional SUV but will wait a year to let Toyota get any kinks out.
I would probably wait a few years to buy. Hopefully the LC will be a bit less expensive used. I definitely have the LandCruiser on my list or an Ineos Grenadier.
Thank you for sharing this information 🙏 I will never let go of my 2012 manual 6 speed , color green Fj cruiser , 199,000 miles. It's truly bulletproof , be safe out there Cheers 🍻
Congrats Hayden! To me, the criteria of a great 4x4 is mods availability and mechanical reliability. Besides the extra space and an arguable engine "upgrade", almost all "advanced technology/features" are available to the FJs after mods. Although I believe many mods are also coming for the 2024 LC, there are many reasons why the 2024 LC's reliability is questionable. FJ is a clear winner here and Yes I am biased as a proud FJ owner. P.S.: Forgot to add that precise and linear control is needed in rock crawling. That hybrid set up will surely mess up the mechanical feedback and "connection" with the driver.
Ditto. I’ve done quite a bit of modding my ‘07 FJ and regularly go beat it up in the California mountains and deserts and, with the exception of breaking IFS axels, this thing is rock solid. The utilitarian design (and age) lets me beat it up without stressing over the paint job or denting it. It smells like an old car, but at 200k miles, she has quite a bit of life left in her. It’s hard to picture the new LC fully modded, but I’m sure it will be nice, but I would still stress over getting Desert Pin-striping or mud on the interior. And time will tell if it’s built as solid as the legendary FJ.
07 fj with 3 inch lift on 33's takes me, the wife, and 2 adventure dogs all over America, in all terrain, any trails, like a champ at 187000 miles and still runs like new. Never once been stuck. No hate on the Landcruiser but FJ all the way

Love this channel! It really seems like the FJ got the best mix of both affordable, retro Land Cruiser styling, and of course the absolute bulletproof V6 from the 4Runner that Toyota perfected. I’ll take Land Cruiser reliability & better offroad features all for half the price, any day of the week. Love the look of the new Land Cruiser, but people can pry my FJ keys from my cold dead hands, haha. Definitely keeping the FJ forever, it’s my rig and always will be ;)
I Love my 2010 Cruiser!!! 129K and she’s still going strong. She’s got the most mileage cuz of the winters but she’s also my favorite and she’s so Beautiful. You can’t beat the longevity of a Toyota!!! Our household has the FJ, Wrangler, LR4, Range and G Class. We’re on the Land Cruiser waitlist for the August release in MN so we’re adding her to the lineup. Toyota doesn’t let you down that’s for certain.
Good comparison! I had my first 2007 FJ cruiser in 2006 (stolen in 2009) and had a 2009 until 2019. Sold it because it was starting to be high mileage and was quite hard on gas. I loved my FJs however and both saw a lot of highway, and offroad time! Great comfortable vehicle that even stock was keeping up with modified jeeps offroad! I since drive a RDX which i really like and uses quite a bit less gas, but although it is a great driver, limited towing capacity and very good in snow, it has no offroad capacity. I just put a deposit to be on a waiting list for the new landcruiser; Good towing capacity, good looks, good power and fuel economy should be better with the hybrid….
Oh be serious about the design, the FJ's are some of the goofiest looking things on the road. Not even in the same conversation in any way. (And I've owned and loved FJ40's ) Toyota absolutely nailed the design aspect of the new LC's. IMHO 😄✌

I had an FJ for 6 years. Was fully stacked with almost every off-road mod there is. Went with it instead of jeep because of its shorter wheelbase comparing to Jeep 4 door and larger space comparing to Jeep 2 door. Also has a good towing capacity. I loved it overall. The HP is a bit insufficient after all the mods. Turning radius is dangerously too wide. There were times I couldn’t turn around on a mountain. The interior space is too small for sleeping in. My Land Rover Disco with similar or shorter wheelbase base can fit a piano and 2x4 lumber in it. Lastly, the independent suspension… my god. It’s good for dessert driving, as I did in SoCal. Really stable on road and offroad. But for rock crawling it’s just awkward. Yes it may be able to do a jeep can, but now you are sitting in it 45 degree slanted, trying to stay physically upright on your seat. It’s just horrifying at times with that cabin tilt. I frankly love the design my Land Rover discovery most for all the off road vehicles I owned. The largest cabin, off center differential, seating position… but the mechanical quality and electronic is garbage. Then now finally Toyota is making another land cruiser. Hybrid… fuck. How do you expect people to fix it off grid in some mountains? Hybrid for an offroad car. Really? I don’t know. Maybe it’s not an issue.
Thanks for that info Hayden. More BS from Toyota using a prehistoric Nickle Metal Hydride Battery in the new Cruiser! Haven't they ever heard of Lithium batteries? Congrats on the dental exam. In Australia there are rumors about a Landcruiser FJ - a shorter wheelbase 5 seater based on the Prado 250 platform with a diesel engine and rear mounted spare. Here's hoping.

Great video! Neat vid and congrats on dental school. I have an 07 in black cherry that just passed 50kmiles. It is pretty pristine. Not used off road by me, and I have had it since about 15k mile point. It’s been great. I am torn on this new one, as well as the land hopper. Also, curious what might bring. I did change the interior lighting to LED and have an after market radio with the backup camera built in, newish tires that are close to stock. Interested in any feedback from you or others, thanks
Sounds like that FJ is still is super nice condition! I would hang onto that gem for as long as possible personally, but even selling an 07 with low miles can bring quite the profit.
100% fj. There are still great low mile ones out there, you just need to look (hard). For me you can't beat the styling. Great video on the introduction of the Land Cruiser but it's a bit like comparing apples to oranges.
God help you when you need to fix a vehicle with two turbochargers and a hybrid battery system. I bet the versions destined for the deserts and outbacks of the world don't get that.
I think the FJ is better for offroading. Because it is so cheap I don't mind breaking something. And they are fairly easy to work on. Buying a new LandCruiser and then modding it to take it off road seems like a way too expensive fix. I do like how analog the FJ is even changing 2H, 4H, and 4L is a breeze. Unlike these newer Toyotas which are only a button but they seem finicky. But for me the FJ is a third car. If I was only going to have one the LandCruiser probably drives better so I would probably pick it.
Love the FJ so much more! Mine is a 2013 with less than 90k miles and just like new except for the brush stripes on the side from the desert (trophy marks). I never plan on getting rid of it!
Congratulations, Hayden; great year end on learning. Thanks for putting this together for the FJers. Did you notice if Totota has any plans for a Trail Teams equivalent for the LC? Mine turned 140K last month in CO; I hope to see you in Ouray in July for the RMTR. 🎉👍🇺🇸
Thanks! I believe the Land Cruiser First Edition is the most off-road ready trim for the new 2024, but maybe after some time passes they will have a more off-road specific build that comes with all terrain tires or something.
Hayden, Congrats on passing the board!!! 😊🎉🦷👨⚕🦷 🎊 Is it officially "Doctor" now (or has it been, already)? Great vid on the new LC (Prado?) v. the FJ! Sticking w/ my FJs (but looking to add a 5th gen 4runner) While I like the "idea" of a hybrid, but a turbo 4 banger is iffy I'm a little wary of "new" tech, I like the 4.0 litre; I want to be paid if I'm going to real world beta test something... D
Congratulations. I have been studying this new Land Cruiser extensively not as a replacement but as an addition. It does not have a 3rd row. That I believe may be offered in other countries where there is another power train available. But in the U.S. we only get the hybrid and no 3rd row (battery).
I think certain trims will have a 3rd row, but in all the photos they always had that folded down 🤷♂️ so we don’t get a good look at it. But maybe it’s like the 4Runner where some packages have the 3rd row and others don’t.
@@FJX2000_Productions my wife and I went to the museum for the release and they said due to the battery in the U.S. version it will not have a 3rd row 🤷♂️. Guess we will see.
new one I can see out the side windows FJ Is likee driving a cave ,,now if the FJ had been more wrangler like, removable top ,doors . would still be sold in the us ? .....thats why more bought the 4 runner easy to see out of
I am an owner of FJ Cruiser, to me FJ C drive train will last a lot longer than the new LC because of not having the Turbo, I am sticking with mine FJC even tho I love the new LC.
My 2007 FJ has a lot of room under the hood for additional wiring and accessories, and just looking at the pictures I am not sure there is much room for anything under the LC hood. The simplicity of the FJ is an advantage that the LC does appear to have so we will see.
At 1:34 it is evident there is no room in the engine bay for anything additional. Like what? Secondary battery, relocate washer, compressor, additional fuse panel/box, upgraded air box w/ or w/out snorkel, etc. This whole engine bay looks like a nightmare to work on if it needed it. Still like it, like anything, has its limitations...
Old FJs have short bed and high center of gravity! That makes them unstable on the road and specially on icy roads. The other reason FJ Cruisers are still expensive, it is because new Land Cruiser models are not here yet! Things will change quickly once they are released in the US market!
Hi I have a 2007 F J Cruiser 45000 miles and 2022 4 Runner 1000 miles Land Cruiser TOO Expensive!!!!! Will wait For The 2025 FJ Cruiser New STYLE 35 To 40 Thousand Much more affordable Prices and Size !!!!!
FJ reigns supreme on the new LC IMO. I think Toyota blew it with the 4cyl Hybrid action. Lose the 18" wheels too. 🤦♂️ I also think if they would have made this a dynamic front axle Vs. IFS it would have TRULY paid homage to the LC. I love my FJC and my LC80. Toyota should know their demo by now. Congrats on passing the boards! Very cool.
Well done on the comparison video but I think a hybrid engine is not gonna work very well down here in Australia. I think I'll keep my old FJ for now and cross my fingers. They don't bring a hybrid engine here.
I own a 07 FJ Cruiser with over 190K miles, Love the Iconic retro look and unique design, Yes the LC is a complete redesign and new style beauty but here is the stuff I dont like about LC, exterior specially the back looks more like a Jeep Cherokee, and dont like the spare tire under the body, dont like the E brake electronic system (feels like I am driving a BMW X3 or a Hyundai) I have used the hand brake many times during off roading and no idea why during off roading a true SUV needs a Turbo charged engine when straight or V6 can handle the torque, isn't the turbo kicks after 2500 RPM or am I missing something? Isn't supercharged better option than the Turbo? Also why 4 CYL Turbo Hybrid?! Ummmm... look like a prius.Well LC is def roomier specially the back seats and is user friendly. I have update this beast and love it very much, anytime anywhere I go people stare on my FJC and asking if its for sale. Overall I like the LC and am very happy finally Toyota came up with something new to compare with new Defender and Jeep. At the end I will stick with my FJ since it has much less electronics. Welcome back Land Cruiser!
I have a deposit down on a new Landcruiser, but the ground clearance and approach and departure angles have me scratching my head a bit. I will always have an FJ in the garage even if I do get a new Landcruiser. It's going to take the aftermarket parts manufacturers a few years to get going on the Landcruiser and it's also going to take Toyota a few years to get the bugs worked out. We'll have to wait and see what kind of prices the new Landcruisers actually sell for. It's good to have options.
Congratulations Hayden on your dental school credentials. 🎊. It is an intriguing time for the FJ fans. It would be so cool if Toyota came out with an FJ that could go head to toe with the Jeep Rubicon right from the factory. 37” tire option, dual turbo v6 , removable top and rear steering. At least we can dream.
Congratulations!! As long as there are humans on earth, there will be a need for the medical and dental professions. While the LC looks like a modern FJ Cruiser, I can't wait to see what the 6th gen 4Runner brings to the table. At least in terms of looks since we all know it will have the same 2.4L 4cyl. Turbocharged engine.
FJ V6 2014 onwards us or 2012 on aus on. 4.0l Simple automatic transmission part time 4wd, thats bulletproof. AN fJ idles along nice and low at higheay speeds, the new one revs its tits off for everything. Nope.
They have been selling 4runner in US for 15 years and it was selling well. After 5 years all tooling and R&D on a vehicle is paid off. Rest is just pure profit for Toyota. Its lucrative to be slow

Sounds like that FJ is still is super nice condition! I would hang onto that gem for as long as possible personally, but even selling an 07 with low miles can bring quite the profit.
Long live the FJ Cruiser Survivors !!!
If I can afford it maybe...that's a big maybe but I doubt it's going to be affordable by any means. I'll just stick to my reliable old fj.
100% fj. There are still great low mile ones out there, you just need to look (hard). For me you can't beat the styling. Great video on the introduction of the Land Cruiser but it's a bit like comparing apples to oranges.
Very very true, they are very different indeed!
Fuel economy is the only real bummer imo about the FJ compared to the LC. 🤷
God help you when you need to fix a vehicle with two turbochargers and a hybrid battery system. I bet the versions destined for the deserts and outbacks of the world don't get that.
I love my FJ. Will love it even more once I complete the stealth camper build.
Sounds neat!
fj all the way here
Both are good.depends to your preference as your daily ride.
As I understand it, the hybrid engine will be the only option for the U.S. market. Gas and diesel engines will be available outside the united states.
Cool video, I’ll stick with my FJ . I prefer less tech and more badassery
FJ! All day!
If I could afford a 2024 Land Cruiser I would jump on it. Now, I would also keep my 08 FJC!
Hayden,
Congrats on passing the board!!! 😊🎉🦷👨⚕🦷 🎊
Is it officially "Doctor" now (or has it been, already)?
Great vid on the new LC (Prado?) v. the FJ!
Sticking w/ my FJs (but looking to add a 5th gen 4runner)
While I like the "idea" of a hybrid, but a turbo 4 banger is iffy I'm a little wary of "new" tech, I like the 4.0 litre;
I want to be paid if I'm going to real world beta test something...
D
Much as I like the hybrid engine idea I will stick to my easy to maintain and cheaper to run 2016 FJ Cruiser.
Very true!
Still like it, like anything, has its limitations...
toyota Land Cruiser 250 (GR sport ) ??
Why can't we have both?!?! 😏😉
FJ TRD bulletproof.
Why cant I have both of them
Landcruiser in the US will only seat 5 people.
Old FJs have short bed and high center of gravity! That makes them unstable on the road and specially on icy roads. The other reason FJ Cruisers are still expensive, it is because new Land Cruiser models are not here yet! Things will change quickly once they are released in the US market!
Enjoy your 60k battery replacement when it spontaneously combusts a year later 🤣🤣🤣
So how many different types of Land cruisers do you currently have in the USA?
Very cool.
The 18inch wheels are a massive shame. It would look so much better with smaller rims and more aggressive tyres
Hybrid engine is a non-starter for me, at least at this stage in the evolution of electric engines and availability of charging stations.
Fj tops
Looks like the 2024 Land Cruiser is also the 2024 FJ Cruiser in other countries.
How can it be called Land Cruiser with just a 4 cylinder engine?…? The FJ styling is so much better! Not getting rid of my 2010 FJ❤
And thanks for the video and congratulations!
2.4 or 2.7?….
Sources I've seen for here in the US say 2.4L, but in other countries there will also be a 2.8L turbo-diesel four-cylinder
FJ
FJ V6 2014 onwards us or 2012 on aus on. 4.0l Simple automatic transmission part time 4wd, thats bulletproof. AN fJ idles along nice and low at higheay speeds, the new one revs its tits off for everything. Nope.
when doing a comparison, show specs side-by-side, not one after the other. Come on.
Looks like another mall cruiser for yuppies
P R O M O S M 🤪
Toyota has probably one of the slowest and most unproductive product management teams and the auto industry
They have been selling 4runner in US for 15 years and it was selling well. After 5 years all tooling and R&D on a vehicle is paid off. Rest is just pure profit for Toyota. Its lucrative to be slow
