  • 111 years old??? Really??
This vintage Singer Sewing machine from 1910 needs new wiring, as the old insulation had aged and crumbled. Join me as we re-wire the motor and the variable speed controller, and get this old beauty back in running condition. Thanks for watching. Buckwsr, Putting the "Do" into "Do-It-Yourself."

You got a real gem there , the red eye decals on a model 66 singer is one that collectors allways look for and yours is in great shape , take good care of it , i will last another 110 years if we dont just toss it aside for plastic junk . We are only care takers of great engineering like this , we need to preserve our history .

I have searched and browsed through hundreds of videos, and this is the only one that I can find that has the exact same setup as my vintage sewing machine. However, my machine is not a singer it is branded as McDougal, and the motor while it looks identical, it is also branded as McDougal which is a shop here in Houston Texas.. I love to do things like this myself, and I've watched your video like five times already, but I'm still not 100% sure that I fully understand the wiring part.. I'm not really sure what the make or model of my machine is because of The branding, so I cannot locate a wiring guide for it, but it's identical to the one in your video

Hi LIz, Thanks for watching the video. So I was wondering if McDougal is truly a manufacturing brand of sewing machine, or simply the name of the Texas-based service center. According to the internet, the McDougal Sewing Machine Service Centers have been around since 1940. My Singer machine dates to 1910, and if yours is just as old, then perhaps at some point the McDougal Service Center did some work on it. Maybe that's why you have McDougal decals on it. I really don't know. The sewing machines themselves don't really interest me, and I'm not knowledgeable about them, but I do understand electricity, and I felt I could handle doing a complete replacement of that old wiring. I did not have any service manual to look at. I simply replaced the old wire with new, in the very same fashion as I found it. Have you taken your machine to one of the McDougal service centers? That's where I would start in trying to track down the history of your machine and any available service information. I ended up selling my machine because I was not interested in learning how to sew. I just like tinkering! Good luck.

Hello i have a big Mitsubishi sewing machine, there's a wire going to the motor it's been cut from the middle barely hanging on & its a pretty short wire, it's not the power cord that is intact & fine, what's the best way to fix the wiring? I can join the wires up but not sure if the wire is long enough for me so haven't tried yet. It was working fine before it got cut during moving to another room. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe a crimp style connector would work?

@@Buckwsr Thank you for the reply it was helpful I did some research, as I'm in the UK I found a product called Wago 221-2411 inline connectors which look like something would work, once attached they can be put in case/cover.
