I really appreciated this "video". I never considered anger as an EXTERNAL force, and the study really made me think. It helped me take my eyes off of the person that was making me angry, and put them back on Jesus - that helped me recognize and repent of the sin that was in my own heart. So thanks.
What are the practical techniques to overcome it?[from the bible] For example in other traditions, there are clear techniques to overcome this problem.[Buddhism] Thanks!
I've listened some 11 minutes and I have to say that they are already wrong in their assumptions about whether you should even get angry. Paul said very clearly in Ephesians, Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath. And if you look at Jesus and His life, you see Him getting angry and grieved with people. Even in the psalms you read, Psalm 139:21,22 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. Psalm 7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. You read of God being angry with many people throughout the Bible and even how Jonah was angry and God allowed him to be angry. Jon 4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry. (For God not destroying Nineveh) Jon 4:4 Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry? (Jonah did not answer God here, but went on to wait outside the city to see whether God would destroy it later on. And God did not do it, but destroyed the gourd He had given to Jonah to deliver him from his grief.) Jon 4:9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death. That is the Biblical God. He is God that understands anger and grief and He knows how to deal with it all. He is not somehow surprised or hampered by them in any way. The problem is that so many Christians can not (or willingly will not) get this. They look at these soft spoken, well dressed, tea sipping "preachers" who tell them, by their words and example that to be a good Christian one has to be "emasculated and self medicated" with a doctrine that makes them silent pew warmers for the rest of their lives. That is how the devil gets a herd of sheep, who will never get "anxious or angry", when yet another perversion, lie and a doctrine of devils is introduced in the church. That is what the so called, "do not get angry doctrine" has achieved. So let us believe what Paul said and see that it is in fact a COMMANDMENT and it says, BE YE ANGRY.
A late reply, but I couldn't agree more. You've said everything here, that I would myself. I too, do not agree with this message (video). Another verse is "Do not be angry WITHOUT REASON..."
You need to read the Bible again. Are you trying to make wusses of Christians:? Be ye angry, and sin not. Jesus got angry in the temple. We have yet to see his real anger. What if David wasn't angered by Goliath's boasts? The key is to 'sin not'. I am angry about the evils that press in on us, but I'm not sinning because of it. Be careful what you teach.
well there is definitely more to the subject than saying the Bible advises a person not just let their anger 'get the better of them'. Matthew 5 goes into some detail about the Christian character, this is arguably the definitive text for what Jesus taught as the Way for Christians to follow if they are to become as Children of the Father. to summarise: turn the other cheek, bless your enemies, assist those that ask of your - and offer more still, if you are donating and remember you have a misunderstanding with someone ('your brother' i.e. fellow person) make amends before continuing with your offering. moreover, the meek and the peacemakers inherit the Earth and are to be called the Children of God. indeed there is very little room for anger to be expressed or even entertained if someone so chooses to follow Jesus as diligently as they possibly can, and yes these Ways are what the World would typically define as a 'wuss' personality. And that should be no mystery to Christians, we are meant to be meek and accommodating, forgiving and loving to all (with a special recognition of this meaning for our enemies) etc
