loved seeing the 8099 southern heritage unit behind the steamer and the f7 southern unit behind the ns heritage unit ,very rare and very cool. wish i was there
It brings back memories for THIS old railroad man, seeing that Southern Green 'n Gold. It was to the Southern that I hired all those many years ago as an extra yard laborer. Before I knew it I was a clerk and a Train Order Operator handing up orders to trains, setting them out for the Southern Crescent and, yes, the steam excursions like this one. I got to ride the cabs of the E8's and the F7 that's on this train, sometimes deadheading to assignments on engines, I rode cabs of steam engines (611 included). So this has meaning to an old retired RR guy! Especially those green engines where I knew most of the engineers on the Piedmont Division, including a good friend, George Ambrose, engineer on Southern trains 1 & 2, Amtrak 820 & 819. What a wonderful character he was, too! :) Seems so long, long ago now.........................................................................
Very very well done video of the magnificent 611 and all else about this train. Beautiful combination of nature with the train in early Spring. 611 has an awesome whistle. What a pleasure it must have been for you to film this. I will look forward to watching the rest of your videos. Thanks for posting.
This was an awesome little video of 611 back in steam. She looks fantastic with a full head of steam, and I loved the night-time shots. Well done on the filming.
Lmao, you can see DIB's cameras on the 611. Don't get me wrong because I do love love love the way guys like DIB are pioneering new styles of rail fanning videos but I also appreciate and love rail videos shot in the traditional style like this. To do it right, like this one has been, is really an art form. Amazing video buddy. Beautifully shot, it's a real work of art in my opinion. Keep it up.
@@AntiqueFarmImplement DIB stands for Delay In Block. An excellent railfanning UA-cam channel. Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I was going through my Favorites list and just saw your comment.
First class video! Love the new whistle on her. I must ask you how you achieve those perfect panning shots. They're extremely smooth and look fantastic!
Brilliant locomotive, really interesting assortment of coaches (or do you call them cars?). Shame that they have to have the two ugly diesels on the train. Love the sound of steam and that deep throated steam whistle. Nice video.
@Steam_Dev OK. Bur I think that any diesel should not be on a steam train as they detract from the magic of steam. Steam engines managed to pull trains for decades without diesels, so I prefer them to carry on solo.

I hope this year I get to go on one of the trips. No matter how often I see this, it never gets old. Thanks!!
Simply exceptional! Great locations and vantage points....and the J...what more could you ask for.
Love the 611. It's got such good looks and a deep, powerful but calm whistle. You can't mistake it. Nice job on the shots!

Just absolutely amazing footage and 611 as always is just incredible!
My... God that whistle gives me goosebumps!!!
Very nice! I was in car 11 (NS 28) on The Blue Ridge Special.
I think Norfolk Southern's 21st Century Steam Program should restore N&W Class A #1218 again along with a new addition, #2156 Y6a. What do you think?
"The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there" How magnificently they did them. What an amazing creation, may she steam forever.

Oh Yes! @11:18 Crank it up!
Awesome! I just filmed 611 running last Sunday in Spencer NC.
they should convert 611 to burn oil Instead of coal
The queen looking absolutely gorgeous
This is the best video I've seen yet of these trips! Great Job!! 👍
Excellent footage. Some of the best I've seen.

Awesome job man! One of the best 611 chase videos I've seen over the weekend.
When they rebuilt the 611 at Spencer shops. I grabbed one of the fire bricks they too out of her.
Would love to see 611 and 765 doubleheading together again like in 1984.
LOVE that whistle!
Yes I am aware that Lynchburg is in Virginia, I made a typo while editing.
Hey on black mountain or at 19:20 do you remember the guy in the tree

That's a mournful whistle.

Atleast it got a classic F unit in her back
Sure felt weird seeing 2 Southern painted diesels behind 611 for a change
Phenomenal shots!!! What model tripod do you use?
Is it still operational?
where are you at @7:53
Lynchburg is in VA.
Yeah complete typo. I didn't realize I made that until afterwards
it's actually 23 cars not 22.
Why do N & W 611 need help of 2 diesel locomotive?
David Vargas dynamic braking (FRA rules)...it's not power adder, and to provide electric to coaches
@@johnhull6363 "electricity" you do realize both are a freight traffic locomotive?
Nice Video
