It's hard to get memories of your early days out of your system. Sam and Casey Harris grew up in Ithaca, an upstate New York spot that simultaneously feels like city and country, and is sometimes just as bleak as it is beautiful. The brothers, who along with Adam Levin comprise the current edition of X Ambassadors, look back at their warts-and-all youth on the band's latest album, 'Townie.' There's a lot of decisions to be made in your late teens; perhaps more if you're situated in a relatively remote area. So it's only proper that 'Townie' kicks off with tales of buying 40s with a fake ID and doing donuts in the parking lot while squinting in the glare of a Sunoco station's lights. The album's song titles enhance the vibe: "I'm Not Really Here," "Start A Band," and "Half-Life" all speak to the energy it takes to battle bouts of ennui. XA, who brought us powerhouse tunes like "Renegades" and "Unsteady" and "BOOM," are meticulous craftsmen of pop-rock, and their skills are in full view on 'Townie.' The Harrises have been in our studio previously, but they recently swung by with a string quartet to share a take of "Half-Life," and dropped a piano/guitar duet on "Follow The Sound Of My Voice" as well. As someone that loves music and is also from Ithaca you guys continue to be a massive inspiration for me to also pursue the things I enjoy. This band is one of my favorites and the heart that you guys pour into each song is certainly heard and felt. The small town energy is felt by many I'm sure and it's hard to imagine that you can take things further but this band is certainly a testament to hard work, passion and dedication.

Saw you for the fifth time in Millvale, PA last night. First time I ever cried at a concert. This song and "Your Town" for Todd with the voicemail at the end, way to tug at my heartstrings, guys. 🥲I loved your intro to this song, talking about how nervous you were to play it for Casey the first time, and in proper big brother form, he just responded to you pouring your heart out with "that's a nice song."
