Though I don't normally like Metallica I do like their power ballads. But not as much as I like covers of their power ballads. And this is one of the best. Ami has a wonderful contralto voice that is ideally suited to this song. And the acoustic guitars give it another dimension.
Actually thinking about it her voice is more in the mezzo-soprano range. The three female voice ranges are, from the highest to the lowest, soprano, mezzo soprano and contralto. I am a fan of classical music. Regardless she has a lovely singing voice.

I can't downvote such an effort, but I have a hard time liking the vocals. She has a beautiful voice but this way of singing (can't explain it into words), a trend I noticed on covers, annoys me. Although is fits the acoustic feel of this one.

It's more than likely because a metal band did a song (and 2 albums) that had lots of country hints to it...using Telecasters and such. I enjoy metal, but let's be honest...metal fans can be the most closed-minded douchebags in existence. It shouldn't matter WHO is playing a particular song...as long as it has meaning, a good composition and makes you feel something when you hear it. I guarantee you if any other band besides Metallica would have played this song, it would have had more love...and that's the problem itself...people get so used to a certain sound and cannot for the life of them accept change. Isn't it nice to see a different side of a band for a change? People can claim they were "selling out" all they want...and maybe that's the case...however a good song is a good song. If you want Kill Em All or And Justice for All...spin them to your hearts content...the rest of us will sit back and appreciate more than double bass and fast riffs over and over. Rant over lol.
