You are exactly correct. I live in a tourist area and every single piece of property is owned and controlled. NO FREE PARKING everywhere. But living on a boat, the water is our last bit of “freedom”. Most all waterfront towns have “day docks” that are free and allow boaters to resupply, refuel and have access to amenities. Nobody owns the ocean, it’s our last refuge as a society. Just my $.02
Several years ago, Wayne said on one of his videos essentially that being on the water is one of the only places left where you are truly free. You just said the same. I am convinced that you, both are correct. We are losing our campgrounds and our freedoms in van life and they continue to disappear more and more each day. I am just about ready to go from land to water myself. You and Wayne nailed it.
I grew up in a Chicago Suburb - Park Ridge. It was a dry community growing up and had parking meters in the uptown (downtown) area. They changed the laws. Now there are restaurants along the main street and elsewhere. Parking meters were removed and signs put up that allows 3 hr free parking. Business is booming.
Destin Florida sux. In 2016, my wife and I were in an RV traveling the US after I had punched the clock for 40 years. We had sold everything and wanted to see the country. We arrived at Destin Beach State Park and we wanted to walk on the white sand. We wer stopped by park rangers because NO DOGS ALLOWED. I had poop sacks for my pup but NO. Move along now. IMHO, Destin sux. We spent 3 years living in the RV and traveled every where except NW area (cause those folks are crazy). My wife got sick in Canada so now I travel with you on UA-cam! Thanks for the video and safe travels!
I found your main channel thru UA-cam algorithms and absolutely LOVE the peace of your trip and am thankful for you sharing a trip I will never be able to take. I watch d all 33 episodes In A couple days. And look forward to more as you continue the loop. I just found this vlog channel and it helps me get to know YOU a little better. Thank you Brenton.
And the sign said "Anybody caught trespassin' Will be shot on sight" So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house "Hey! What gives you the right To put up a fence to keep me out But to keep Mother Nature in? If God was here, he'd tell you to your face 'Man, you're some kind of sinner'" Sign, sign Everywhere a sign Blockin' out the scenery Breakin' my mind Do this, don't do that Can't you read the sign? Brenton, The 5 Man Electrical Band did that song during the post years of the Hippy Era, circa 1970 or so. Nothing's changed, only gotten more worse, it seems. Ya know, just my opinion, but I'll take the slow waters and hometowns of the Upper Mississippi over this built-to-the-last-inch commercialization that you have shown us so far in Florida. You and Wavey continue to stay safe, enjoy the water miles and thanks for having us along!
I love this comment and I agree with you. I too thought of that song!! I have zero desire to be anywhere near Florida. I live in a small resort town in PA. Take care!
I never get tired of your methods of being frugal! You have it down to a science. I learn a lot from your videos. I hope to do the Loop one day. I like your barge hull better but I have seen those industrial pontoons and thought the same thing. Fair winds and following seas Brenton and Wavey!
Ahoy Mighty Brenton! Thanks to governor Oswald West in 1913 Oregon's Beaches were made accessible (wet sands) to the public. This meant if the Shanty Boat is capable, you could Beach her for a Wavey walk anywhere along the 362 miles of *Specialness*, that is the Oregon Coastline. In 1967 governor Tom McCall extended public access to Oregon's Beaches, to the vegetation line (seagrass). My parents wasted no time when the Beach Bill was passed, as they immediately took me to Twin Rocks Beach in 1967, where toes-to-sand on public land, had that 4 year old feeling Grand. Thank you governors for taking the •exclusionary• stance, outta the equation. 🙏🦉 🌅🌊⛵🌊🌅 🏖️
My head is so full of responses to the things you’ve said on this episode. The world in Destin, and so many other places has transformed into a place or your average Joe bag of donuts guy is not actually welcome to participate In the lifestyle that’s available for those that can’t afford it. It’s perfectly fine for folks like us to work at marinas restaurants as delivery drivers or any other job that serves those that are there to be served. It’s an age old pecking order. It’s the halves and the have nots. The vast majority of those that are financially well off have worked very hard for their money. The problem is they have forgotten or never experienced what it’s like to be one of the have nots.
You got it! Luckily there still are a few places in Florida where you dont have to be rich. Just a few and going fast. Love the weather, , the water and growing my own mangoes. If I could take the cold I would be up in the UP.
When you started talking, that song, sign, sign everywhere a sign, came into my head ..lol But yeah, I know exactly what you're saying and think you're right. I think it just boils down to Greed. People today are more greedy than ever. It's all about getting the All Mighty Dollar from you. And they try to set it up so that you have no choice but to go through them. Personally I think every town and City should have a free public dock, with some common sense restrictions of course, such as no free overnight stays. Just a basic No Frills dock that allows people to come ashore during the day, with a 3-hour limit for free dockage. Which is enough time for people to come ashore to get provisions or go sightsee or go to a restaurant or whatever... The point is, you shouldn't have to dig out your wallet just because you want to step ashore. It doesn't take away business from marinas because they make their money from their customers paying for seasonal dockage , short-term dockage and amenities.
I am landlocked, so, I have no choice except to rent a slip at a Marina. actually, it is a pretty good deal. I have a secure slip behind a locked access and electricity and fresh water, for less than 9 dollars a day. I have to keep that slip year round, and I intend to keep it, most nearby marinas are 3-4 times that rate. My Marina is old, they are spending millions upgrading the facilities. I also have free use of nice shower and bath facilities at the marina.
Well I would go further. You said "if there's no sign you should be able to go ashore". I say that you should be able to go ashore anywhere unless there is a sign. Also, you kind of said "there should be allowances built into the system for budget boaters to be able to loop". I say, there should be no restrictions placed on boaters, but options to go up market for those who want to. Basically I'm agreeing whole heartedly with your view, but that personal freedom must come first as long as its safe, corporate profits should not override that. They will try, but we should kick back, protest and complain loud and long in resistance. Thank you Brenton and Wavey Gravey.
I always love watching your videos and the way you do it. Being frugal is the best way and the most enjoyable cuz how can you be happy when you're spending lots of money. Going to Disney's is another example. It's overpriced and you can't enjoy it anymore. I'll only go there if I get a free ticket. Thanks for your great videos and adventures. 😊
I totally agree with the greed of this world. But as a businessman and a capitalist I appreciate when a municipality or a private owner provides a doc for me to tie the dingy to and charges a reasonable fee for the construction and maintenance of said doc. It is no different than if I take my Mercedes or my chevette or even my motorcycle into a business area that I have to pay a parking fee. I am thankful for the access and accessibility to shore.
With regard to some of your commentary there I would offer the following: because of the way our political system works, where the rich are able to pay to get the legislation they desire and the politicians are basically for sale to the highest bidder, what you have in practice amounts to socialism for the rich and capitalism for the commoners.
And now you know how the first trailherds felt when they encountered Barb Wire for the first time! Never ferget that some of us are Pilgrims "In the World but not of it", just passing through on a Mission.
I remember when you said you never felt more free when you were on the upper Mississippi, now your in Florida, you seem not so free. Get out of there.....fast.
Another great video Brenton. How’s the scooter handle the salt water splashing? I was also wondering what keeps the rain or ocean spray from entering the cabin since it’s a step down hull? I’ve been to Destin a few times. Really nice place, but it’s definitely centered around tourism. Most people who work in town don’t live in town.
The poor scooter is taking a salty beating :( I unloaded it a week ago to explore Duafuskie island. Had to WD40 the poor thing to come back to life. The ignition was rusted in the off position! But it keeps running. In all honesty, I paid 550 bucks and she's a one way mule of a scooter. The barge has an aluminum lip below the door to keep splash and any water that comes on deck from the cabin. We've not had any get inside. Destin is a full blown tourist town
I agree with Steve's comment. You are on a totally different adventure than people doing the loop in a cruiser, Marina to marina to marina, does not compare to where you get to go and stay at night. Guess how many cruiser loop video's I've watched...."ZERO". Plenty of free docking when you get back home.
I’ve been on both sides of this argument I worked at a large marina in the Keys in the early 70s and the Keys were full of hippies living on old sailboats and they were all the time coming in to fill up their water bottles and to leave their trash never buying anything. They would slip in at night and break into the bathhouse and leave a mess so we refused to deal with them but on the other hand I envied there lifestyle up to the point of disrespect for the business. I have been traveling on a $200,000 sailboat and try to anchor in an anchorage in the the Miami area and be heckled by a Karen who said we were blocking her view. She shined spotlights on us through the night and yelled at the top of her lungs anytime we came on deck in the morning when we pulled the hook we gave her double moon salute and went on our way. Most cities if they have paid morning balls have dingy docks and in you don’t have much choice in certain areas because they don’t want you to damage the sea grass or coral. Let’s face the facts There are so many abandoned boats in the water just left to trash the water ways and bays that folks just have a bad idea about anything that isn’t shiny and fancy it’s nothing new just a little more prominent in todays world.
There's a episode of the sci Fi show red dwarf where one corporation owns everything in the world. You have to pay to talk, and have friends and drink water. Sometimes I think we're heading for this.
I am a capitalist too, but capitalism cannot survive in the absence of a social morality. That is where we find ourselves and it is very frightening. Keep fighting the good fight, though - as you know, there are still plenty of good people out there. We will find each other.
Hey Brenton, I had thoughts of your stresses with anchorages, shore access, and "vessel status" being questioned more when you arrive into various communities. Especially the nuts-to-butts areas like Florida. Public Access has long been a topic of discussion and legislation, and likely varies greatly from State to State. I think you are discovering the lack of Public Docking / Shoreline that relates in proximity to needed services for those traveling and/or living aboard like yourself. I am not aware of enough boating Apps or online resources that may be available to assist what you are looking for. But yes, the balancing of Public vs. Private is challenging, especially when it comes to the value of land which exponentially increases in and near developed communities. I appreciate you sharing these experiences and observations. 🙏⚓️☀️🙋🏻♂️
I know you are probably way past this area but if you head to crab island and anchor between the coast guard station and the bridge it is outstanding trout fishing.
I think the reason there aren't more public access or pass-through type arrangements is that people worry (too much I think) about vandals or just inconsiderate people who will trash the place. But I also think that kind of atmosphere of low expectations begets the attitude of not taking care of things. Like with children, if you give them the expectation that they're responsible adults they will (mostly) act like it, but if you set the opposite expectation then that's what you'll get.
The freedom to roam, or "everyman's right", is the general public's right to access certain public or privately owned land, lakes, and rivers for recreation and exercise. The right is sometimes called the right of public access to the wilderness or the "right to roam". Florida's state constitution establishes a public trust of "sovereignty lands", including wet beaches "below mean high water lines ... for all the people," respecting a freedom to roam there, regardless of any private neighboring dry beach. Local ordinances typically limit this freedom strictly to roaming on foot, and prohibit driving motor vehicles or beaching boats. taken from Wikipedia
You say you're a capitalist, well, welcome to Florida. Those businesses are there simply to make their owners money, not to serve any sort of "greater good". I think you will find (or maybe have already found) that the more prosperous and developed any area is, the harder it gets to travel cheaply. In regard to your idea about free docking to promote local business, you will find that more likely to be the practice in areas that really need the help. I'm thinking here about the small towns along the NYS Barge Canal for instance. Free overnight docking is pretty much the rule there, sometimes even with free electrical hook-ups. Destin FL is booming, there is no business incentive for them to offer anything free to the budget boater, so they won't. That's just the way it is.
You really can't expect a private business to offer services for free, presumably some of them if you ask nicely maybe they will allow you to tie up your dingy for a bit. But realistically the amenity you're looking for a dock like that needs to be provided by the municipalities imo.
Just my 2 cents but I think for the amount of taxes we pay there would be more free docks to stop and shop or whatever. I'm for the capitalism but due to what we pay in taxes seems the government has to much waste in what they spend. However great video I'm glad you take the time for us to see the things you see while some of us plan or dream whatever the case may be keep posting and we keep watching.
I’m glad you brought that last part up man it’s not like you’re a discriminating tourer..well maybe Wavey is pretty sure she is..😉needs her treats.. wavy is a Capitalist
I get what you mean about we the taxpayer being charged to use public land. I can see a small fee here and there to provide services and upkeep, but if it's public it should be available to all no matter how thick their wallet is. The football stadium example is crony capitalism, which is by definition fascism (state and private partnership). I enjoy your videos and am sort of thinking about one last adventure before my time is up. Really enjoy seeing a believer act on his beliefs in the daily walk as well. Take care.
You’re a traveler, not a tourist. I’ve found most public boat ramps on the ICW can accommodate dinghy visits. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC): The FWC website provides a searchable database of public boat ramps throughout Florida. You can filter the results by county, region, or boat ramp name.
While there are good folks living out on the water, I imagine that there are homeless folks living on the water that are little better than the folks in the tent cities. Drugs and crime are all too common in the homeless community and because nice guys on boats aren't a large community, there probably isn't a lot of money to be made catering to them. Another channel, EV shows an anchored boat near Miami who was in the process of dumping his holding tank in the bay. The large brown smear extending from his boat was a dead give away. It's a tough call but it's just too difficult to sort the good from the bad. I'd love to take a few years and live on a sailboat down there so I'm not against what you're doing at all but you need to see both sides. If you had a million dollar home on the waters edge, do you want an aquatic tent city anchored off your beach?
If Destin is a tourist town, they should take measures to accommodate "loopers" and others who are arriving via water. It would behoove them to do so. (I just wanted to use the word "behoove.")
There was a big ,High wall there that tried to stop me a sign was painted it said” private property “on the backside. It didn’t say nothing. This side was made for you and me. Woody Guthrie. This land is your land.
Good song. :) another "I'll be there to shale your hand, I'll be there to share the land...when they give it away, when we all live together..." The Guess Who
Wow, that verse by Jerimiah man cool not many places would be brave enough to put that up anymore maybe in the Midwest but not Florida man that’s sort of cool. I hope that got a lot of comments. I don’t read any of them by the way sometimes half comment I read them.
I haven’t done the loop yet, though I live on the canal. I often have heard that you can do the loop for no more then it cost to live in a house and your normal monthly expenses. I was wondering if you have found that to be true? talk to you later, my unmet friends.
That makes way to much sense. Common sense. There should be a low or no cost option built in to many things, luckily there are in many cases. but there could always be more. Problem is we are People ,,, we take more and give less, so the fine line is How much is enough to keep the abusers away $10 for a dingy dock is completely reasonable in a over populated place like the intercostal of FL. And free on the mississippi is also what I would expect.
Welcome to Anerica free enterprise, capitalism, wall street , Madison Ave. It's whst we stand for nake the money open the federal lands drill for oil let's have mire off shore oil rigs. If your building new major roads in Florida they will be toll roads need I go on other than to say it's what we thrive on capitalism.
There are more open "public" spaces the farther west you move. These spaces are being snatched up by various interests though shrinking them and restricting access.
I'm from Destin and I could have spent the day telling you the history and what has happened here. Maybe next time! I'm building a shanty boat now and it's your fault!!
What you mean is that there is no more free spaces for free people walk around! Every piece of property belongs to someone who thinks he/she is the A#1, the king of the hill. We are living in a very dangerous moment in human history, where men seems to have lost the way and hand. Complicated world!
Everything is set up for profit and taxation. I'm a capitalist too, better than the alternatives, but capitalism has to be tempered with a greater purpose than profits alone. The value of humans and the human experience has been reduced to profit value and that's a precarious state of affairs. I Love your channels, a breath authenticity
yep all these state that are along the ICW should have dock space for the public just like there state park has camping, limit it to 3 or 4 day maybe charge a small fees just like there state parks.
A place like that, I'd be in a hurry to get back to the boat and find (No where) Tourist traps, I can't understand how people can find them worth while.
It's a boom, bust cycle. Florida has gone over the crest of the hill. Most of i it is pretty unpleasant now. Traffic is horrible, prices of everything are high. Florida was very nice 10 years ago. High interest rates, high insurance, and crime will fix Florida over a long enough time frame. We probably won't be around to see it.
It would be a good song! "Signs, signs, everywhere are signs. Blocking out the scenery..............." Sorry but you made your point but kept at it and I couldn't finish the video.
An atheist was trying to shut me down at a point of time telling me that there was no God so I told him to call out to God like a child and see for yourself, I hope he has by now
Pretty sure they’re gonna license loopers just another way to regulate Man so you can bring your dinghy to shore just need a ticket. Cant have your pudding Man.
Always aggravating when government in any form builds something with tax money and then charges us to use it in anyway. Park entrance/day fees, annual passes to government land they declared a park, forest, monument and so forth, are just plain wrong.
People ask me where I'm from and I don't know if the right answer is "right here" because I'll be living in that location for at least 2 weeks and in the area for a month. If that's correct, then I'm not a tourist. If I say Kentucky, then clearly I'm a tourist. In the end, who cares, it's just a word. I get to know the whole area I'm living in, I remember the cashier's name at the grocery. When does a tourist become a short-term resident? Again, who cares really.
"signs, signs, everywhere theres signs; fucking up the scenery, wasting my time. do this, dont to that, cant you read the signs???" im split on this. i am from the US but i live in japan. people here respect rules and common courtesy and public places are clean. in the US is never fails that public spaces are a beacon for the criminal element and the ne'er do well. either you are at personal risk to go there or they are filthy. at this moment in time i prefer to live in japan. and, yes....people who can afford to will continue to pay the $10 to come ashore. when it become not profitable for businesses to do so (i.e. it is more costly to clean up behind the 1 in 10 asshole, or the vandal) the businesses will continues this way. they lose more money opening it up to the general public than to make it more restrictive. no business can stay in business without profit . to further your hunger for the life you are living i highly encourage you to read "sailing alone around the world" by joshua slocum, the masterpiece written by bernard moitessier: "the long way" cheers.
I read that book many years ago, along with about every book on sailing I could find. At one time (in my 20s) I wanted to sail around the world. Now I watch folks here on YT doing it, I don't think I need to sail the world now, but just explore the nooks and crannies. If would love to get back to Europe and Scandinavia before ita completely conquered by the NWO
@@brentonsriversidehermitage if you have not read anything by John Kretscmer I highly recommend his books as well. I would not usually suggest books out of order but his “sailing to the edge of time” is exceptional. As are all his books. And - totally different direction - if you have not read Zorba the Greek you must.
Ive lived in Destin my whole life. It was a small beach town with a charter fishing fleet and that was the main industry. Motels turns into hotels, then hotels turned in to condos and condos turned in to resorts. All of this is progress, some good and sum unfavorable. Destin is a modern day gold rush town, with people from out of town flooding in and trying to see how they can make money and a living on the beach. It's not a simple living and most don't survive the off season. you stood in front of a plaque that you read complaining about no public access while in the background the city has three free transient slips that you could have docked at. granted they are not deep water slips but you don't require a deep water slip. Unfortunately people do abuse this and it will be taken away over time because of abuse. My only real complaint about this video is that when you travel through a industrial port you don't complain about how industry how blocks out access to everyone. You jut take it up the transom with out a complaint. I like the vlog but your not experiencing any of the places that you travel to and trying to talk about them in depth is ignorant. Your only goal is to complete a loop.
You're not wrong in that I don't have enough time to delve deeper into these places. I'm in less of a hurry and trying more than most you'll find here on YT (I think) the public dock there was blocked by another grounded sailboat if not mistaken. I stand by the notion that every water front town should have free day use parking for dinks. I do appreciate your constructive feedback. I also have thoughts on industry and industrial towns. Something has to create productive jobs to have any sort of economy. If it's tourism, at least provide a way for said tourists to get there and spend money??
The freedom to move and travel seems to be on paper only. Its sad most of the townships do not set aside peoper public ammeneties. The people living there are "in" and they view everyone as "not in" As for boating goes, its one of the last freedoms. If you dont enjoy your neighbours you simply move and go where you are appreciated. The worls of my,me,mine is only good when tge going is good. Once the area tanks economically they will beg for travellers to spend money
I follow your stuff but your forgetting 99% of the people pulling in don't care to pay the 10. And your in a super popular area. What if those bum boats started taking over. In Michigan in the city of detroit there are parking lots near stadiums that are 10 to 30 for the day. So a boat fee of 10 isn't really anything. If you had to do it daily then that would suck but most are just passing
The thing that bothers me is that all the wealth is flowing to the top one % they own all this shoreline and never use it I think there should be a law that if you don't use a property 3 months a year they should pay triple property tax to discourage property hording my god how many home does on man need that's my rant
Yeah, everyone's a die-hard capitalist ... until capitalism affects them personally in a negative way. Then, they magically become open to making some modifications ... but only in that one narrow area. Social nearsightedness. It often comes down to a person's range of life experience and the perspective that comes from it. _“The rules only applied to people who couldn’t afford different rules.”_ -- Cameron Stracher, author, “The Water Wars”
You typically don’t pay to park car on a side street or parking lot why have to pay to park boat or dingy? Esp if just a couple of hours to shop buy goods n food.
Lots of words, not clear what the lesson is. Seems like the system is working pretty well for you and your approach and the approach others are taking.
Everything is monetized now days, even the karens come out and try to run fishermen off from fishing their boatdock,as long as they dont set foot on it,they can fish the lake all they want, but people have collectively lost their sympathy for the fellow man
I appreciate your POV and not many folks can communicate it like you… thanks so much for sharing!
Just my $.02
Within the last few years. What used to be the free and common waters have now become expensive and exclusive
The "public lands" have been mortgaged for 30 trillion dollars, maybe we can still rent them for recreation for awhile.
It's very true. They're trying to shut it down on the water too, but it won't be easy for them to do everywhere
You probably get to experience more on your trip than most people do spending 10x as much.

We arrived at Destin Beach State Park and we wanted to walk on the white sand. We wer stopped by park rangers because NO DOGS ALLOWED. I had poop sacks for my pup but NO. Move along now.

Welcome! It's an honor to have folks come along our little adventures
Thank you for sharing your lifestyle with us. You make it possible for a lot of us to experience things we may not ever get to do ourselves.
Okay, Shanty Boat Owners Lives Matter.
And the sign said
"Anybody caught trespassin'
Will be shot on sight"
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house
"Hey! What gives you the right
To put up a fence to keep me out
But to keep Mother Nature in?
If God was here, he'd tell you to your face
'Man, you're some kind of sinner'"
Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?

My head is so full of responses to the things you’ve said on this episode. I follow and agree. I've worked so many service jobs like that in my life, working while others are having fun...it's a very unique perspective
You got it! Luckily there still are a few places in Florida where you dont have to be rich. Just a few and going fast. Love the weather, , the water and growing my own mangoes. If I could take the cold I would be up in the UP.
When you started talking, that song, sign, sign everywhere a sign, came into my head ..lol
But yeah, I know exactly what you're saying and think you're right.
I’m with you on looking for authentic ticity.
Keep them coming.
I agree, there should be a public area everywhere.
It solves a lot of problems.
Wow, you definitely edited my version of tourist in my head
Our freedoms & liberty are being taken slowly. Few seem to notice.
As a Yorkshireman I totally get it!!!
Just starting this but I've totally been to Destin about a thousand years ago.
It had a strange "now that the boys of summer have gone..." vibe Lisa
@@brentonsriversidehermitage I get what you mean!!
Like you said, you can't just be anywhere anymore. If you're not spending money you're not welcome. That's sad.
I need to watch that..I’d say cool but I’m sure it’s not really cool
another good one Brent
I am a capitalist too, but capitalism cannot survive in the absence of a social morality. That is where we find ourselves and it is very frightening. Keep fighting the good fight, though - as you know, there are still plenty of good people out there. We will find each other.
Very well said. Unfortunately, we're in for a reset. Let's hope it's not a hard reset.
Hey Brenton,
I had thoughts of your stresses with anchorages, shore access, and "vessel status" being questioned more when you arrive into various communities.
🙏⚓️☀️🙋🏻♂️
I would go over to that Whataburger an get a Patty-melt, onion ring an large chocolate shake though. LOL
You're not wrong buddy, I add....too many people :(
I would tell you what Man those stragglers that come in that watch this and don’t know that you have that main channel. Those guys are really cool.
There's a difference between a tourist and a traveler.
I walked the complete Mississippi River but instead of doing the length, I did the width.
It’s the power man!
They just sent another 100 billion to Ukraine and Isreal! And we're already 34 trillion in debt. How can this continue?
@@brentonsriversidehermitage I can't see it but they keep doing
Thank you. A half sunken sailboat blocking the one in Destin unfortunately
It's behooves me to point out, "behoove" is a good choice of words :)
@@brentonsriversidehermitage LOL I'm literally, not figuratively, laughing at this point. Aren't we clever?
I've heard it said, "Socialize losses (costs), privatize profits.
That's what I was trying to say. Thank you.
It's a good one that pops up in my own life occasionally
Doesn't the Active Captain app help boaters find anchorages with dinghy access? There are a handful of apps for boondockers.
I haven’t done the loop yet, though I live on the canal. I often have heard that you can do the loop for no more then it cost to live in a house and your normal monthly expenses. I was wondering if you have found that to be true? talk to you later, my unmet friends.
Sign, sign, everwhere a sign. You can't do this, You can't do that. So I put my hair up under my hat and went in to ask him why.
Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?
Great song. Tesla did a version of that song which I believe is better than the original...which is rare
I’ll be curious how much of this the east coast will be like this.
I Agree with you. I think there needs to be a public area we all pay them MF taxes
If I owned a business on the water, I wouldn't charge to dock. If I owned a house on the water, I'd be "GET OFF MY PROPERTY!".
I'm from Destin and I could have spent the day telling you the history and what has happened here. Maybe next time! I'm building a shanty boat now and it's your fault!!
Now I’m curious what happened
What you mean is that there is no more free spaces for free people walk around! Every piece of property belongs to someone who thinks he/she is the A#1, the king of the hill. We are living in a very dangerous moment in human history, where men seems to have lost the way and hand. Complicated world!
Everything is set up for profit and taxation.
I'm a capitalist too, better than the alternatives, but capitalism has to be tempered with a greater purpose than profits alone. The value of humans and the human experience has been reduced to profit value and that's a precarious state of affairs.
I Love your channels, a breath authenticity
Thank you. It's such a gift to be able to have conversations with folks here. I feel incredibly blessed
"And the sign said you have to have membership card to get inside "
One of the best song lines written;)
😎
What kind of refrigerator did you get
An ICECO. It's fantastic! ;)
yep all these state that are along the ICW should have dock space for the public just like there state park has camping, limit it to 3 or 4 day maybe charge a small fees just like there state parks.
Stay where you know you can. Destin is a Richman s city. I would have gone past and stay where it was more comfortable.
And by power, I mean what I’ve said before man
I have the same issue with public transit, our system is not allowed to access the areas that the customers want to go to and shop and spend money.
A place like that, I'd be in a hurry to get back to the boat and find (No where) Tourist traps, I can't understand how people can find them worth while.
I spent 3,500 on my trip, on a 17 ft. 25 horse, John boat.
From st.paul, mn. To Perdido bay,fl.
Perdido key
Wow! Did you chronical that trip somehow. I'd like to hear more
I get it…. But i also understand the entrepreneurs side of the argument ….Not sure what the answer is???
I think a lot of it is some people take advantage and trash there place so they stop it all!
The bad eggs :(
It's a boom, bust cycle.
Humanity Lost.
They are going to change the loop, that's for sure.
Always aggravating when government in any form builds something with tax money and then charges us to use it in anyway. Park entrance/day fees, annual passes to government land they declared a park, forest, monument and so forth, are just plain wrong.
And now (most or all?) National Parks won't accept cash, it's card only! What happened to cash being good for all private & public debts?
People ask me where I'm from and I don't know if the right answer is "right here" because I'll be living in that location for at least 2 weeks and in the area for a month. If that's correct, then I'm not a tourist. If I say Kentucky, then clearly I'm a tourist. In the end, who cares, it's just a word. I get to know the whole area I'm living in, I remember the cashier's name at the grocery. When does a tourist become a short-term resident? Again, who cares really.
"signs, signs, everywhere theres signs; fucking up the scenery, wasting my time. do this, dont to that, cant you read the signs???"
im split on this. i am from the US but i live in japan. people here respect rules and common courtesy and public places are clean. in the US is never fails that public spaces are a beacon for the criminal element and the ne'er do well. either you are at personal risk to go there or they are filthy. at this moment in time i prefer to live in japan.
and, yes....people who can afford to will continue to pay the $10 to come ashore. when it become not profitable for businesses to do so (i.e. it is more costly to clean up behind the 1 in 10 asshole, or the vandal) the businesses will continues this way. they lose more money opening it up to the general public than to make it more restrictive. no business can stay in business without profit .
to further your hunger for the life you are living i highly encourage you to read "sailing alone around the world" by joshua slocum, the masterpiece written by bernard moitessier: "the long way"
cheers.
The people living there are "in" and they view everyone as "not in"
As for boating goes, its one of the last freedoms. If you dont enjoy your neighbours you simply move and go where you are appreciated. The worls of my,me,mine is only good when tge going is good. Once the area tanks economically they will beg for travellers to spend money
All solid points ^^^^

You typically don’t pay to park car on a side street or parking lot why have to pay to park boat or dingy? Esp if just a couple of hours to shop buy goods n food.
The only thing I can respond with is this - Life is a bitch!
Lots of words, not clear what the lesson is. Seems like the system is working pretty well for you and your approach and the approach others are taking.
