I love my ct from dec. 2015. Bought it at 85k km. After 7 months and 35k km no problems, have lpg gas in it and no ethanol petrol. Runs 45 mpg on gas and petrol, so I can drive 1300 km on 1 fill-up and relatively cheap too. Great car
So happy you covered the CT200h! I have a 2013 model (non F-Sport as it's mostly an appearance package with a stiffer suspension.) Mine has been 100% trouble free for 100,000 miles. 45-50 mpg. Uses zero oil between changes. Changed struts and shocks as they were getting a little softer. The only thing shared with the Prius is the drivetrain. Chassis is completely different with great handling and ride - more like the Corolla chassis. Often seen at the top of "most reliable cars" lists, just above the Prius. BTW, wife's 2008 GS350 has also been perfect with just normal maintenance - amazing car! Love Lexus! Always enjoy you videos. They have been very informative and helpful! Thank you!
@@ashishpatel350 "Slow" is relative. Copied thgis from the lexusenthusiast website: "The four-cylinder 1.8-liter VVT-i gas engine will generate 98 hp (73kW) at 5,200 rpm, and will be paired with a permanent magnet, synchronous 80 hp (60 kW) electric motor. Combined, the total system output will be 134 hp (100 kW) and 152 lb.-ft. of torque. This second-generation Lexus Hybrid Drive will produce a 0-60 mph time of 9.8 seconds and a maximum track speed of 112 mph, and will be good for a combined EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 42 mpg." I personally found 43-48 is realistic. Not as high a a Prius but more more fun to drive! I've found that this CT200h has more than adequte power. Cruise at 80 mph all day and enougth power for overtaking. Yes, this engine revs up alot when getting on it. Feels quicker than what it is "especially in "Sport Mode". The electric motor has full torque off of the line. BTW, many high displacement V8 cars from the 80's and even 90's were slower 0-60. I had a '78 Lincoln Town Car with a 460 V8 that was slower. It's all relative. Can't go wrong unless you're looking for a stop-light racer! Good luck to you! I went from a BMW 545i V8 to this and I'm happy! (Especially with the maintenance costs!) The handling is very very good. Low center of gravity and a near 50/50 weight balance helps. Makes it fun to drive expecially around town. My wife and I have made cross country trips in it with no problems or issues.
I appreciate your reply. I am looking at one and will likely get it Friday. I am trying to figure out the pros and cons. It'll be our first hybrid.@@bblair502
6:01 That appears to be on purpose (top the oil to 3/4 full) - plus the fact that the customer installed an aftermarket oil catch can. It is to minimize EGR clogging thus the head gasket problem - infamous with the Ct200h and the 3rd gen Prius. At 110,000 miles it is recommended to clean (or replace, as AMD recommended in his previous video) the EGR cooler, valve, pipe, and intake manifold. The customer obviously wants to keep this car for a long time, otherwise there won't be a need to fix the sunroof noise, or the struts, or adding the oil catch can.
I have a 2014 CT200H. Stock tyres are 215/45/17. It was bumpy and uncomfortable. Changed them to Corolla 2021 rims/tyres 205/55/16 and this car rides like a dream. Stock rear suspension setup is double wishbone and they are really comfortable
I've also read in several forums that changing to 225/55 on the 17" rims will improve the ride, increase ground clearance by 20-24 mm and speedo will be spot on instead of reading 2 mph high. No tire clearance issues. I may give it a try... I also went with regular high quality tires - non "low rolling resistance tires", much better traction, quieter and better ride. Didn't notice any reduction in fuel economy. Still 45-50 mpg.
@@bblair502 can’t do that in Australia as it will void the insurance coverage. Can only change the rims/tyres to stock sizes that comes into the country for a car model, either 215/45/17 (higher trim) or 205/55/16 (lower trim)
@@yslee1401 hahaha thats pretty funny. Well down under it does get pretty hot so no reason to tempt fate eh? I have played around with tires for years and don't believe labels for them or even oil viscosities. There is nothing better than reviewing actual specifications. But then again as a designer, maker, engineer, etc I do like dimensions and need them at times. Tire makers have a tremendous amount of latitude that they play with as long as the inner diameter fits a certain rim. The outer diameter, contact width, and section widths can be many different things and weights and tread depth vary as well although tread depth not that much. Cheers
I have a Lexus from 2014 ( December ) It has now 155.000 km on the counter. Never had problems. It is good btw, that you do full throttle sometimes, so all burnes clean.
Came to the comments looking for the F Sport and Sumitomo responses, looks like it's under control. Even the good ones can't be expected to know everything, but the obvious disdain for an actually decent tire brand and Lexus' own parts was kind of amusing.
@@yslee1401 no, the 2011-2013 CTs have the bee sting antenna, 2014-2022 CTs have the shark fin antenna, doesn’t matter if it’s low spec or not. I have both versions in my driveway.
The Blue F Sport lowering springs and the Blue F Sport front and rear sway bars are factory Lexus option. It only lowers the car an inch. I LOVE the new Prius, can't believe I just said that about a Prius, and I am waiting for Ahmed's review on this car. If he says it is good, I think I will pull the trigger on one.
Cool, my mom has one and I’ve been waiting for your review on it! Plus, I did laugh when you said it’s cold. It’s -40 (with wind chill) in Saskatchewan today
They definitely are not good tires lol. Out of the 3 mentioned I’ll only rep Falkens. Had Sumitomo as my 1st set of replacements for my new at time 2007 Mazda 3 hatch and they wore out after a year. LOUD AS HELL. Garbage.
It is amazing. When I had excessive noise in a German brand- the dealership solution was to replace whole sunroof at a cost of thousands of dollars, so I decided to live with it.
Best one to make that ct200h to lower it, without ride rough. If they have by the company I’m gonna mention, bilstein. Specifically, bilstein B8. A shorter monotube shocks and struts that’s made for lowered vehicles, without compressing it. B6, usually people still likes to lower it but it’s made for stock height. A B8 u can lower it because again it’s a shorter shocks and struts length. They will make ur Lexus ride so much smoother, firm, not too stiff or rough at all.
I'm a subscriber, and I just hit the like button just because you acknowledged the old Ford pickup truck, and you thought it was cool even though it's not a Toyota product. I think even more highly of you now, and you were already WAY high up!
As a two CT200h owner, a 2011 and 2014, 150k and 160k miles respectively. That CT in your video is a freaking UNICORN. It has the extremely rare F Sport Aerodynamic front bumper package for 2013 along with the extremely hard to find Blue F Sport lowering springs which as you stated aftermarket? But they aren’t, they’re factory option from Lexus along with the front and rear Blue F Sport sway bars that are literally IMPOSSIBLE to find anymore. Even had LED headlights, memory seat package. I wonder if it has the front radar cruise package? I’d sell both of my CTs for this one in the video.
I have a 2012 F-Sport Special Edition. I want that bumper on my car so bad!!! I have aftermarket side skirts and an aftermarket mid-hatch spoiler along with an aftermarket rear diffuser but the front bumper doesn't quite match any of it. Is that bumper a rarity?? Because I want it on my car. Either that or the 2017 CT bumper with the TRD front lip.
I didn't think the F-Sports were even available in the states for the first gen. Where the hell are these things. Are they imports or was there some kind of limited run in the states.
I have the 2014 model of the CT200h. Its been super reliable. Doing oil changes every 5k (do not do them at 10k), just did the 120k spark plug Maintenace. I get 45-50mpg, I am a happy camper! Yes the ride on the CT is a bit firm but I like it!
Yeah. My 2014 CT200H is super reliable with only scheduled oil/filter/tyre changes. Thinking of changing brake fluid & coolant(s) at 100,000kms which is coming up soon. I get 5.2lt/100kms which is around 45 mpg (US gal)
Your CT is F Sport trim right? Which I’ve read rides firm? My non-F Sport CT rides nice imho. - I’ve been having buyers remorse for like 6 years for not finding an F Sport CT 😅
@@johnfordiii3348 Yes, I have the F-sport trim. I have drove coast to coast in this car. It is very fun on the turns as the suspension is very planted on the car. You feel all the bumps on the road with it. Thats what I meant with teh firmness. Other than that, I love it totally.
I have a 2017 Ct Sport 102k miles, it doesn't burn a drop of oil and it still drives like new...0w15 synthetic oil changed every 5k...the ride is quite rough with them low profile tyres specially in bumpy roads...it's been very reliable so far🙏✌
I had a 2003 camry with a sunroof that had the rattles, after investigating the problem, it turned out to be weld spatter on the mounting studs stopping the nuts from being tightened up properly.
Do you recommend the ct200h as a good hybrid daily driver? I can’t find a Prius model I like the looks of…but this is a great looking car! Like a Prius in a tuxedo haha.
I don’t care for lowering , or raising vehicles , many hours of engineering goes into ride height , suspension, tires , wheels , for daily driving, optimal use. Nice attention to detail cleaning the glass!
The more I watch your channel, the more I hear about Toyota's and leaks. And the phrase, "this is super common on these models". It changes my thoughts about Toyota's and reliability.
Great car. Just did a head gasket, intake, cooler, and EGR update on a ‘12 with 170K. Not the worst job. Totally worth it for another trouble-free 170K. Burns maybe 1/2 qt. between changes. We use Costco 0W20 full-synthetic and a genuine filter when the maintenance reminder comes on. Cylinder walls look like new.
F sport is the in house lexus performance accessory arm. Not aftermarket. The CT you inspected looked to be an F sport trim but the suspension is all accessory parts. The cars look good but my aching back says to stick with standard for a cushier ride.
22:12 this car is lowered from factory, dont blame the customer on that its the F-sport package , you can see the springs are labelled F-sport you should know that avoid the F-sport package because the confort is AWFUL because of that ( lower + stiffer suspensions )
Dont mean to offend owner but I like the way it sat when u lifted to look under the hood. (Probably WHY gasket was bad on exhaust/bottoming out). I'd rather RAISE my 2019 Prius. Thank u AMD, for all the "heads up" on things that notoriously go wrong (ex. rear brakes). Other than that, nice lookn CT & he takes good care of. I learn so much! 👍

Very informative video. At 6:02, just wondering why you commented that oil was low when oil level was at ~3/4 full, between two holes on that dipstick? I thought as long as oil was above fist hole, it's fine. I never fill engine with oil all the way to top hole when I do oil changes. I stop filling it when It's half-way between the 2 holes. Just being curious on your comment.
Because I love the CT200h I watched this video. I'd hope to get one of these and enjoy it for several years. Thanks to you I know what years to avoid. (:
Lexus shouldntve discontinued it, like the GS. The CT is much cooler than the UX. Maybe with the new 2023 Prius coming out, Lexus can bring back the CT…as a CT500h!!
This car was lowered right out of the factory. The spring says F Sport on it. There are F Sport badges on the car too. Those sway bars are from Lexus too. F Sport is Lexus’s performance division.
The CT200h is basically a Corolla with a Lexus coat on. In Europe, we also have the Auris, which is a Corolla with a different name. Both the CT200h and the Auris/Corolla Hybrid share the drivetrain with the Prius 2009 -2015
I remember when I first spotted a CT, it was in Korea, I was shocked, I never knew CT existed, never sold in my country, and I never saw it on Lexus JP's website.

Have you gotten any ES 300/330s yet? Just recently bought one following your Lexus guide and it's an awesome car! Would definitely love to see some 4th gen ES content.
In 2015, when I bought my 2011 Auris hybrid, I rather had wanted a CT200h (which should be very closely related). But I wanted to stay with my trusted Toyota dealership and workshop. Sadly they said they aren't allowed to do proper manufacturer inspections on Lexus and can't order Lexus specific parts. That's why I went for the Auris and now have two "real" Toyotas and the "Toyobaru" instead of one being a Lexus.

Ct200h is a very reliable car but Important for all CT200h owners to know: The coolant pump will fail around 200-250 k.km. The CT doenst have a Temp meter. So when the pump fails it will be to late when you notice it. Its will give white smoke and knocking noises. I've seen several CT with seriously broken engines. I Worked for Lexus 6yrs. They needed a rebuild or a new engine. But there is a simple fix. Let the dealer check the coolant pump, they can do a test with there computer to see if the pump is working correctly. And let replace the pump around 200k.km. a new engine is far more expensive.

Hey all.. Let's hear it for a great UA-camr with awesome presentation, material, knowledge and video length.
This is where UA-cam truly does us all a good service by letting us connect with and follow him.
Thank you for your effort and really really good vids, Car Care Nut!!
This is the cleanest shop I have ever seen.
One of my all time favorite cars i have owned, and now my high school daughter has. Still very good looking in my opinion.
My wife have one of this car with 180,000 miles. Issues with this car are water pump, head gasket and hybrid battery.
-35C here in the canadian praries but my LS460 Starts and runs perfect! 400,000kms
I am owning a secondhand 2012 CT200h. I love it very much. The only downside is the ground clearance.
@The Car care Nut,
I've watched a few of your videos in the past two years and never subscribed. On this Easter Sunday 2024, your last statement of, "May the Lord Bless you and Keep you", is what gained you another loyal follow for the life of your channel.
Great car
Yep, zijn leuke goede auto's.🙂
The CT is a fantastic car. Just go for the 2014 and later cars with revised engine parts to avoid issues.
Sumitomo is massive company, which makes a lot of stuff. Their tires are excellent. They own Falken tires as well.
They don't have good tires tho.
Thank you!
what is the hp rating on these? i might consider getting one but ive heard they are slow accelerating on the highway
@@ashishpatel350
"Slow" is relative. Copied thgis from the lexusenthusiast website:
"The four-cylinder 1.8-liter VVT-i gas engine will generate 98 hp (73kW) at 5,200 rpm, and will be paired with a permanent magnet, synchronous 80 hp (60 kW) electric motor.
(Especially with the maintenance costs!)
The handling is very very good.
Only thing that keeps me up about this car is the EGR pipe buildup leading to head gasket issues.
Solid comment.
Thanks!
@@yslee1401 How would insurance find out?
@@jamesmedina2062 if there are no accident claims, they may never find out. If some idiot rams into you, then hell May break lose
Cheers
customer can change the charge gauge to a tachometer with a couple pushes of a button! my 2012 CT has 258,000 miles on it and original hybrid battery!
CCN, love these type of videos! keep the series going with the test drives :)
The FSport sway bars are extremely desirable. If I was a Cat Converyer theft and I saw those sway bars? Fuck. I’ll take those instead
Thank you for being through and detail video on the Lexus CT. Lowering or changing your suspension is never a good thing in my book as well.
Agreed. Stock CT200H is already too low IMHO
This CT200H is a low spec model that came with a bee sting antenna. The higher spec versions come in shark fin antenna
I have Tanabe springs on my 14 CT and it rides even better than stock because I also have a 2011 CT. No issues at all with tire wear because I have it properly aligned
Love your Toyota focused videos, can't wait to see your thoughts and assessment of the new Prius's drivetrain and other mechanical aspects

Sumitomo is a pretty good tire brand Ahmed. I'm surprised you never heard of them. They also make Falken and Dunlop tires.
Well, he also said it was lowered. It looks like the FSport package with OEM springs.
Yeap, Made in Japan Dunlop are from Sumitomo. Also, cars that came with timing belts from 2 decades back, many OEM timing belts are made by Sumitomo
@@yslee1401 Sumitomo also part own Mazda.
They definitely are not good tires lol. Out of the 3 mentioned I’ll only rep Falkens. Had Sumitomo as my 1st set of replacements for my new at time 2007 Mazda 3 hatch and they wore out after a year. LOUD AS HELL. Garbage.
Yeah Sumitomos can be pretty good. But alignment is a big deal. Lately I have enjoyed my Toyos and they are quiet.
It is amazing. When I had excessive noise in a German brand- the dealership solution was to replace whole sunroof at a cost of thousands of dollars, so I decided to live with it.
I like your new style of video, following you around the job with the initial drive etc.
Nice on the CTs you can replace the sunroof seal separately. A lot of new cars, the seal is part of the glass!
I'm a subscriber, and I just hit the like button just because you acknowledged the old Ford pickup truck, and you thought it was cool even though it's not a Toyota product. I think even more highly of you now, and you were already WAY high up!
You explain everything so well. Really relaxing and comforting to watch!
I have the factory LED headlights on my 2014 F-sport. I also have the memory seats, headlight washers, parking assist. No radar on mine though
@@Macsimus007 the FSport CT200hs were always available since day 1 in the States
Other than that, I love it totally.
i hope u are not getting the MPG reading from the on board gauge cos its not remotely accurate. i reads way higher than it actually is
@@alleneng No, tracking mileage between fillups. Realstical 45-50mpg is not hard to get on these cars. Its just a third gen Prius.
I love your camera and the overall camerawork/editing! It really shows with you videos. Makes watching that much more enjoyable!
I could watch these videos all day long
I have a 2017 Ct Sport 102k miles, it doesn't burn a drop of oil and it still drives like new...0w15 synthetic oil changed every 5k...the ride is quite rough with them low profile tyres specially in bumpy roads...it's been very reliable so far🙏✌
My sport is so low that the bottom of the doors hit sidewalks.
@@wed3k mine does as well...specially if the road is even slightly inclined...

Great Video with Test rides. Also good to hear you are busy. It's a good thing. :)
Bottom of CT looks quite similar to Corolla E210. Thank you. Nice video!
Sumitomo tires are actually a good quality japenese tires , maybe they were a little abused
I cannot imagine lowering a CT200h. They come too low from the factory. I lifted mine 1 1/2" so I could get out of the driveway without scraping.
I have a 2011 stock CT and lowered 2014 on Tanabe which is 1.5 inch drop. No issue at all with either of them. People exaggerate
How much fuel mileage did you lose?
Yay another LS430! I don’t care if it is vacuuming leaves out of the cowl, I will watch any LS430 videos!
My 4Runner comming your way in Feb 2023 :)
I don’t care for lowering , or raising vehicles , many hours of engineering goes into ride height , suspension, tires , wheels , for daily driving, optimal use. Nice attention to detail cleaning the glass!
AMD: Sumitomo tires are based on japan and are actually good tires
The more I watch your channel, the more I hear about Toyota's and leaks. And the phrase, "this is super common on these models". It changes my thoughts about Toyota's and reliability.
Great car. Just did a head gasket, intake, cooler, and EGR update on a ‘12 with 170K. Not the worst job. Totally worth it for another trouble-free 170K. Burns maybe 1/2 qt. between changes. We use Costco 0W20 full-synthetic and a genuine filter when the maintenance reminder comes on. Cylinder walls look like new.
I see that the LS430 is banged up on the passenger side
Mrs. AMD retired from being the camera person :)
F sport is the in house lexus performance accessory arm. Not aftermarket. The CT you inspected looked to be an F sport trim but the suspension is all accessory parts. The cars look good but my aching back says to stick with standard for a cushier ride.
22:12 this car is lowered from factory, dont blame the customer on that
its the F-sport package , you can see the springs are labelled F-sport
you should know that
avoid the F-sport package because the confort is AWFUL because of that ( lower + stiffer suspensions )
Thanks I needed this video. My seals were cracked and chipped. Also some plastic guards on rail on driver were damaged. Sunroof still functioning fine no issues but my noise only occurs if shield isn’t closed tight or open full.

Sumitomo rubber is the parent company of Bridgestone and Falken and some other brands I believe
Agreed. I find the ergonomics in UX cabin is really poor and feels really cramped
They never discontinued the CT. The last CT was this year, October 2022 in Japan to be exact
My guy added a catch can on a hybrid, never seen that before.
What what??? Sumitomo tires are a popular good brand. They own Dunlop and Falken.
But the suspension setup on the CT200H is kick ass. Rear double wishbone and front enhanced MacPherson struts with larger anti roll bars
@@yslee1401 True!

Have you gotten any ES 300/330s yet? Just recently bought one following your Lexus guide and it's an awesome car! Would definitely love to see some 4th gen ES content.
CT is the most reliable Lexus and that's saying a lot. Just get a facelifted one without a moon roof
Kinda impossible to find a CT without the sunroof in US as the CT never sold well to begin with over here lol.

I've been looking for one for the past year. Waiting for price to go down
