lovely to discover a Welsh knitting/fibre podast! Now I think i heard on a knitting podcast to knit colourwork socks inside out, as stretches the floats a bit
It’s so good to see you! I love hearing about all your fiber adventures over the summer months. Your Tin Can Knits jumper turned out so beautifully! I also absolutely love the colors in your autumn socks. ❤ I hope you show them when they are finished! I can completely relate to sweet barking dogs who like to have their say when I’m trying to do something quietly. 😂 I now have 4 dogs, since inheriting my mom’s little dog after she passed away in June. There is SO much barking around here. 😊 I have developed a bit of a weakness for project bags myself. Forbidden Fiber Co. makes bags out of her beautiful hand-dyed fabrics, and then there are yarns to match… 😍 I may have a bit of a shopping problem LOL I hope you have a wonderful Spanish holiday! Can’t wait to see the view!
Thank you so much! It’s great to be back 😁 ah four dogs will keep you busy but they are great aren’t they - sorry to hear about you Mum 🥲Have you managed to make any socks yet? I will check out those bags and yarn 🙈 we can never have enough can we?!?! 😆💕
@ thank you 🙏🏻 Her illness was difficult but blessedly short, so I am grateful for that. 💗 Her little dog is an absolute trip, so my big three - Labrador, Llewellin setter, and Bernedoodle - have had quite an adjustment to make! Alas, with the carer things and estate settling to be done, no socks have been knitted yet. I have managed to begin crocheting with fingering weight yarn, so I’m calling it a win, all things considered! 😊 A friend and I are doing a blanket cardigan CAL together once a week, but mostly it’s just an excuse to meet up for a coffee 😂 I am working on a plan for my own projects and how I can use my channel for something other than lurking on everyone else’s LOL. Perhaps I’ll figure it out soon! In the meantime, I’m so happy to be able to follow your projects again. I really missed seeing you!
I enjoyed your podcast very much. Referring to knitting socks in 100% wool, I saw an interesting tip about using a silk mohair held with the wool on the heels and toes.as the silk mohair lace weight can not be broken. I love workig with pure wool and will definitely try it.
Welcome! That’s a fantastic tip, I will add that into my next pure wool socks. Thank you so much for taking the time to share and watch my podcast - so pleased you enjoyed it.
Make sure you are keeping the stitches stretched out when floating the colorwork. I typically like to keep the stitches are scrunched to towards the tips of the needles but while doing color work that makes the floats much too small. So the stitches you just knit and the working stitch should all be at least as spaced out as they will be when off the needle. More spaced if its an area that needs a lot of stretch. Flip inside out when knitting to also help keep the floats even and big enough (think about how the inside of a circle has a smaller circumference than the outside of a circle). Don't catch floats for socks until they're 7-10 stitches long. Catching floats reduces stretch and you only need to catch floats longer than an inch. You might want to knit a bigger size sock until the colorwork is over and then reduce stitches to your actual size, especially if you find that sizing up a needle makes the gauge too loose.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with me! Lots of great things for me to be aware of and try in my next pair. Really looking forward to casting on another pair.

@ crocheting with that weight yarn is an absolute win! You should start a podcast as well starting with your CAl cardigan! That would be great! 😁
Love this 🎉🎉🎉
