- The Cougar is great for everyone who likes to pack massive firepower in a Light Clan Mech. The rather low speed (for a Light Mech) is mitigated by two indirect firing LRM 20 racks that can engage at almost any stage of the battle.

I am using Haven Kendrick's Soundpack! Download it here: / haven_kendrick . To install, simply locate your Mechwarrior Online installation folder, open "Game" and you will see lots of .pak files. Drop the sound mod file into that folder with the other .pak files, restart the client, and you are good to go!

The heavy lasers are just some of my favorite weapons on a support mech, they're just a gut punch when you get pushed. I use a similar setup on my Adder, but with ATMs: Dual heavy medium lasers, dual ATM-9s, and a light TAG. You ought to try it Bara, I think you'd like it

My favorite Lurm carrier. Keeps me from feeling dirty when running Lurms; we maybe not but I figure I am not wasting tonnage.

Always good to see love for the cougar. A real underdog lately but still can trundle around doing its thing inside the comfort of your team.

I will copy this build. Fits right into my playstyle.
I was fond of using something similar with paired Artemis-15's and adding ECM with the H head omnipod. Gives you a decent number of missiles anyway (1440 before skills), but you get tighter grouping and more missile load in total...and the Cloak Of Skill to help keep the potatoes from trying to turn you into a dead metal donut.

Yup ran the cougar with 2 ATM 12’s . Might try the lrm’s maybe 15’s with extra ammo.
3 streak 4s with 4 medium lasers, ECM.
I use it When the pirahnas are out. Does good against most lights or red torsos. Does bad against mechs like a linebacker. I try and escort my assaults where the first two should be plenty and the third keeping away.
I run a similar adder variant with 2 x LRM 15s :)

I do something similar. Change the hml to lpl and the lrms to fives.

Maybe with the way this years loyalty program is set up, you can do build videos on some recommendations for those mechs.
How did you manage to get all of those weapons in those slots? Forgive my questioning I recently got the game and my first mech is a Cougar. Does anyone know how should I go about upgrading it?

I clicked on this vid because I recently switched my CougarPrime from double SRM6/Heavy Large to a similar build, I think it's LRM15s with medium pulse lasers, but I haven't played it yet. I did it because I bought another Cougar, the one with high energy hardpoints and am using it for Large Pulse/SRMs shenanigans. I liked the old cougar build but I was having too many issues with the low mounted heavy larges. Otherwise, the heat quirk allowed it to fire the heavy larges WITH the SRMs often, and it was pretty enjoyable. I feel a little sad about switching to Large Pulses on the other mech, but I figured with its cooldown quirk, the longer range and more heat efficient pulses were the better call. I suppose I could drop to heavies and upgrade the SRMS to 6+Artemis, might try that some time.
This is my mech! Only difference is mine has artemis, other than that this is my build exactly. Love the lrms for softening up targets at range, and the heavy medium lasers to give a nice punch to anyone that manages to sneak up on you.
I did the same build on the Kit Fox (KFX-G for quirks), except with LRM15s and it's working out great. Faster than the cougar and has ECM.
You can use the ecm head on this fit by dropping the other heatsink. You don't need them anyways as the lrm20 run forever and it only generates excess heat if you fire the lasers as you launch missiles. One or the other won't gain heat.
I run ECM + 2 heavy large and 5 heavy small lasers on mine xD
I am willing to bet that the reason those guys refused to stand and fight was that they were all open torsos. they dropped like flies as they were circling so it seemed to me that they were all super damaged at that point.
I play LRMs on my Adder and PPCs on my cougar. maybe ill switch it up.

A: You really were lacking sleep, if you missed out on saying "all systems are NOT nominal"...
B: I do not get why you set up your firing groups as you do. I would set them up as 1-2 for my arms, and 4/5 for my LRM groups - one chained, and the other for both.
The problem is the cougar is tooo slow 🐌 but you right it is a good lrm boat
Why not ATMs as opposed to LRMs?
ATMs are good but firing at long range is extremely wasteful as they pack very few missiles per ton of ammo.
Considering most fighting seems to happen inside of 800 or even 600 meters though it seems like the extra damage would be worth it. They out-damage similarly weighted LRM launchers even in their 2 per missile bracket.
Been running this build for a loooong time now...it's incredibly good at supporting the team and given it's low priority it can square away some really good dmg and pressure so long as you don't make yourself the only target.
The fact the LRMs actually hit enemies when launching from relatively close range should tell those guys something. But no, they don't want to hear.
I think you'd be better off ditching the heat sink and getting some cool run.
Maybe it should be: "Once you've finished firepower, you could invest in cool run, in order to ditch the heatsink for more ammo."
The build also seems relatively cool compared to what you usually field, so you can forego your cool shot, even though I understand if you're reluctant to. I think I'd personally bring more artillery in order to help out against entrenched lines.
Wow, coincidences abound. I just took the Blood Adder as my loyalty reward. Anatoliy.... anyway. I liked the active LRM play here, LOS and dumbfire go a long way towards making your own opportunities to do damage. Your LRM's aren't your teams job to make sure you can fire.... good shit, get some sleep tho!
I got a Cougar - Blood Adder from the Loyalty Program, so I might run this build on it. :)
@Baradul Give the cougar C a try with a UAC20, JJs, and 5 ER micro lasers. It's a complete blast and nobody ever *expects the Cougar to do so much damage. Hide behind the front line but in front of the second line. Make sure to add a point or two more back armor than usual.
If only there was real mech carried artillery in the game.
There's actually a long tom cannon that can be mounted on a mech in the lore. There's a Victor listed in Sarna with one. It was piloted by some noble or something.
@@MrBluman999 Long Tom, Arrow VI, Sniper and Thumper are all mech carry-able. Thunderbolt LRM as well. Naga typically carried Arrow..i cant remember the rest. Some houses fielded more then others.
Yea peeps running in circles looses more games then anything, Nascar is evil and congress should bring in Laws I say :) It is annoying though especially in an Assault, you slow down thinking we'll make a firing line and rip em apart as the come over the rise and suddenly you notice your all alone, its very quiet and very cold :)
The biggest flaw of the Cougar is the low speed for a light mech.
But i like it, it´s been one of my favorites ever since the BattleTech real time tactic game.
It's honestly an "escort" rather than a speedy flanker/backstabber, handy for being a singleminded weapon carrier that can backup the big guys (and with the H head, cover them with ECM). In that regard, it can specialize (like the LRM carrier above) and pull it's own weight nicely.

Eeee, i like Cougar! But in MWO hes cockpit... Cockpit in MW4 look better.
I really want to get into this game, but i installed it and it seems like NA is dead + it has a super high skill cap, so i'd be a pleb getting smacked around
It takes some getting used to. Imagine a team shooter without a medic and that's MWO. Game is super fun and very much not dead. You can get into games fairly quickly. It's dead in oceanic but NA servers are quick to get into and the lag compensation is actually probably the best I've seen in any game.
Pick a job. Stick to it for the most part. Run from fights that ain't yours and stick to your style.
Games about positioning , so slow mechs will not be able to adapt to a bad choice. Think world of warships and tanks, lots of for thought and or speed. Also everyone usually circles right. If I was a real general and I knew where everyone was , you would think that's would be a huge advantage. Again speed is an asset.

Nascar ruined this game for me, just saying. Everytime I think "maybe I'll play MWO again...", I see another match that you or TTB lose or almost lose because of the potato tornado.
