I’m from Fernandina Beach FL. Another beautiful little island. When I was about 12, my uncle had a graduation ceremony with the Navy Seals and my family went to support his success. Anyways, I know things are a far cry today from how they were in the late 80’s but when we visited I fell in love with Coronado Island. Having grown up on the little southern most sea island of the east coast; Coronado Island felt like home but way cooler. I remember seeing the succulent ladened landscaping along the highway overpass and being so enamored at how lush and beautiful everything was. I fell so in love that I had set myself the goal of being able to move there one day. Unfortunately, life had different plans for me. I’m grateful for the experience and for the fact that I am so fortunate to be a Florida native.
As a night shift postal worker, my heart goes out to my fellow workers who are getting off work just trying to get home late at night! GOD BLESS😢😢😢🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I'm from Chattanooga, TN. We have a lot of waterways here, too, surprisingly; in fact prior to TVA constructing the Chickamauga Dam, flooding was a frequent catastrophe that leveled the town every few decades. There's three bridges crossing the TN River (also known as the Mississippi River) into Chattanooga. One of them carries interstate connecting GA to TN (ATL to Chatt), as well as Nashville to Chatt to Knoxville. I can only imagine if any one of our beautiful bridges were to fail. Anyway, that to say this really strikes a chord in my heart. Particularly being a Namesake bridge, after a man who proceeded the forefathers in his belief in the dream of independence. May this bridge be rebuilt, as the Governor said, in memory of the bridge that came before and the people who died. I haven't crossed that bridge in years since I moved from the east coast. I usu crossed at night and for me, it always felt spooky with the night factory lights and heavy industry on the riverbanks. And pollution - a lot of pollution creates an otherworldly experience
Now comes a massive year long investigation, finger pointing, lawsuits, environmental studies, proposed architectural designs, community meetings/hearings, bids, construction delays due to weather, and finally the new bridge will reopen! This is some people's greatest nightmare. Ever been on the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge going into VA Beach? There are people who park in a park & ride and get a ride across because they simply can't go over, and under, that much water when they are behind the wheel.
Mitch McConnell's Chinese sister-in-law who "accidentally" drowned in her Tesla in February (who married 2 American billionaires), was Chair of Grace Ocean that owned that ship.
My condolences to the famlies and friends who lost their loved ones and grateful this happened when there were very few vehicles on the portion of the bridge that was taken down. It could have been much much worse. I saw some workers on the bridge and one semi that had just entered the bridge when this accident happened.
This is a wakeup call to re-examine these kinds of bridges and infrastructure and to re-evaluate these container ships and procedures. Now you see what trying to save money can cost a city and its citizens
There is much shorter and detailed videos of shipping experts describing what happened on YT. all the national junk is just for clicks. Just watched one guy describe the power failure, etc leading up to the collision.
I know how she feels. I live in Minnesota and it was shocking to say the least when our 35 bridge collapsed. Of course it wasn't smashed into by a ship. It was just a faulty build. My condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives.
Missed by hours being on CT's Mianus River bridge collapse in 1983. Am still shook by the close call and obsessed about others caught in a collapse. The terror of it is so unthinkable.
I am curious about who is the pilot of the ship?? Based on several interviews about this tragedy, there must have been about 25 or less crew members on board which is normal for this type of container vessel. Also, the port of Baltimore and US coast guard according to maritime experts (retired captain/pilot and maritime lawyer interviewed) do not require or mandate tugs under or near the bridge. However, tugs could have definitely prevent this tragic incident.
I’m not sure what you will figure out by knowing who the captain is. Don’t worry, the NTSB will handle the investigation work, go home and get some rest detective.
When you lost power with ship this size is very tough control.the video show Black smoke come exhaust before hit.the people died due cold water from harbour.this going be costly, major investigation from washington dc,repair take years not weeks.major blow for harbour trade.this is history book Baltimore md sad.😮
My heart goes out to the people (and their families) at the accident and pray they will be rescued or recovered very quickly. This is an horrific tragedy. May God be with everyone effected by this.
Thoughts and prayers to all affected by such a shockingly disaster.Hoping you can keep a strong team for the families and stay united together without media making things worse at a very sad and worrying time.
I was a worker at Bethlehem Steel in the 70’s when the bridge was being built. I saw helicopters lower the center roadway to connect the bridge from the opposite shores. From time to time I still cross the Key Bridge. It’s amazing to see that it is gone! Praying for the victims of this tragedy.
I've lived in Maryland my entire life and never had the chance to cross that bridge. A coworker told me what happened, and he used to use that bridge to see his in-laws and friends. It's sad to see that this famous bridge is gone.
Prayers for all those missing in relation to this event. Enough to make one second guess crossing such a waterway. Could you imagine being on autopilot (being you cross it daily for years) and don’t realize it’s no longer there. Shortly after the collapse. Golly. 🙏🏽🙏🏼🙏🏾🙏🙏🏻
How is it possible that a large sea going vessel is allowed to travel under a major US bridge without the assist of Tugs & was the Pilot aboard? That is so stupid and uncalled for.
@user-wh5ir4fo4r The odds of this happening are very rare, but the odds of it happening with any one particular person on the bridge is astronomically rare. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
This is just so sad. I've lived in this area all my life and drove over the Key Bridge hundreds of times. My uncle is a former Baltimore Harbor pilot for 40 plus years, now retired. He would be one of the people who boarded these massive ships to bring them in and out of the harbor. I talked to him, and he said it was the power going out. Once you lose power, you can not steer the ship. They even dropped the anchor to try and stop or slow down the ship.
If the bridge was so vulnerable that one impact could bring it down, why weren't tugs accompanying the ship in case the ship developed problems? Sure it would add expense to the ship, but think of those lives. And the impact to Baltimore and the port and the cargo and shipping in the interim.
@blitzmom2674 Tugs did bring it out to a certain distance. It's on the ship traffic data. No bridge would have withstood a direct hit on a main supporting pillar from a ship that large. That's not just me saying that, but lots of structural engineer experts. The bridge was completed in 1977. Cargo ships are double the size today that they were in the early 70's when the bridge was planned and building started.
They will eventually find the piers weren't designed to take a strike of this magnitude and they should have been reinforced years ago with large concrete bollards.
I was scanning through my phone rarly in the morning to come upon this.I had a sick feeling to learn that lives were lost but a scary feeling , just days before this could this happen to us.Im sending my cyto the family
How was it that if the bridge was so vulnerable that one impact to a pier would bring it down, why were there no redundancies? Shouldn't there have been tugs to support the ship till it got PAST the bridge? And why were there no redundancies on the bridge structure itself? Shocking how one impact brought it down that quickly.
How horrific it must have been for the people on the cargo ship once the power went out & they realized that they were going to hit the bridge, causing mass casualties & near impossible rescues
This is so disastrous to the Maryland, Washington travel and military access. Probably why the cargo ship „accidentally“ rammed the bridge at night where no one could see it target the structure. How does a cargo ship miss the middle.
@@buckshot4428 I think you guys are just misunderstanding what shes saying. Just the scale of destruction, and it was a giant collision, taking down the whole structure. pretty similar honestly, I can see where the comparison can be made
I got that eerie feeling too. I think those getting offended are misunderstanding. Not to lessen the impact of 9/11, but this is a huge structure that was fairly integral to the skyline and functioning of the large city of Baltimore. It's only a shadow of the feeling following 9/11, but it is similar. God Bless America, North America, and all of Earth.
WAIT...were there any motorist or pedestrians on the bridge or homeless people under the bridge during the collapse? We wouldn't know due to the media only showing interests in the Cargo Ship crew and what the neighbors think. It may be weeks before missing persons are associated with the Key Bridge Collapse.
@@AA-ct7cb Yes she does and I love how she gave her whole resume on air, woman is a hard-worker too and deserves to treat herself to skilled cosmetologists. She seems to have worked hard and enjoys her careers as well.
The two comment replies here are creepy. SUPER creepy. Goes to show there’s thirsty weirdos even during a tragedy. One guy even claims to know what her insides look like… Like what?
I am not convinced the bridge was tall enough for the ship to pass under to begin with. How in the heck do you miss seeing an obstacle this large. It will take some time to replace the bridge. Was the boat captain asleep?
Saving grace is this didn't happen a few hours later. I am not sure this is nothing more than a bad accident. Hopefully people can stay sane on this and not start getting politically so we can learn what actually happened and do whatever we can to prevent it in the future.
Prayers to all the construction workers and their families, dangerous enuff working on the highway at nite, then some idiots run a ship into the bridge!!!
i live around 5 miles as the crow flies from the bridge, i was up at 1:30 as i normally am, and i heard it! it was a loud yet distant type roar or boom i had even posted on f/b what the hell was that noise, sounds like a sonic boom!
I've noticed the media has refrained from blaming responsibility for this tragedy, on the ships Singapore crew. Singapore is a self governed independent country with huge trade ties, to China. But the ship could be privately owned, with Singapore, registration. There have also been rumors about contaminated shipping fuel, causing other ships steering to similarly, be affected. How and when was this reported, and investigated? Hopefully the NTSB will be able to get to the bottom of this accident. It would really be unfair, for the American taxpayer to carry this burden, alone. Condolences and sincere concern, for everyone affected by this horrific, incident.

Wasn't that bridge 40 or 50 yrs. old? And a direct hit from a fully loaded cargo ship. Poor bridge...didnt have a prayer...
much love from Tampa! I remember when our bridge had this same thing happen. Good luck guys!
@@TitaniumTurbineyour smart ass comment is not necessary. Everyone is here reading the comments and curious just like you.
Great reporting. A great person look into the person aspect, beyond the typical news.
Prayers for all people involved.
I just can’t believe this. My eyes won’t let me.
My heart is goes out to those people 😢😢 this is very sad news
I've lived in Maryland my entire life and never had the chance to cross that bridge. A coworker told me what happened, and he used to use that bridge to see his in-laws and friends. It's sad to see that this famous bridge is gone.
Prayers for those people
My heart hurts for Baltimore :( this is so crazy
Praying 🙏🏽
Prayers for all those missing in relation to this event.
Enough to make one second guess crossing such a waterway.
Could you imagine being on autopilot (being you cross it daily for years) and don’t realize it’s no longer there. Shortly after the collapse. Golly. 🙏🏽🙏🏼🙏🏾🙏🙏🏻
Should you stay in car or jump out before the submersion??
How is it possible that a large sea going vessel is allowed to travel under a major US bridge without the assist of Tugs & was the Pilot aboard? That is so stupid and uncalled for.
I thought the same thing. That is a huge ship. It smells a lot like this was no accident. That ship is freaking HUGE.

Two pilots on board. Not sure where tug boats were.
Beautiful lady she gave a great interview
why are they set up under the bridge that just collapsed ????
Moth Man just realized a statement on Twitter saying he had nothing to with this and he's been to the city.
Condolences and prayers to those who lost loved ones. I hope lessons are learned to prevent this tragedy from happening again.
Sad. Praying for you all ❤️
I live in Anne Arundel County, and while I haven’t needed to use the bridge every other day, I’ve used it plenty of times. Crazy to think about.
They are going to have to build an entire new bridge. It cannot be “Repaired” the main support column is gone.
They will eventually find the piers weren't designed to take a strike of this magnitude and they should have been reinforced years ago with large concrete bollards.
Your very kind Gina God bless you 🎉
I was scanning through my phone rarly in the morning to come upon this.I had a sick feeling to learn that lives were lost but a scary feeling , just days before this could this happen to us.Im sending my cyto the family
Its hard to believe I'm not from MD my my grandmother lived in Essex I took it every year, hard to believe its gone..
Unbelievable
Simeone needs to get a ferry service started asap
Tragedy😰😰😰
How horrific it must have been for the people on the cargo ship once the power went out & they realized that they were going to hit the bridge, causing mass casualties & near impossible rescues
Maine has a bridge that is used in the same way and reason. The Cape,NH, Ma, and RI as well. I'm sure there are others. It's very concerning.
This was was predicted by the Simpsons cartoon back in 1996 episode
This is so disastrous to the Maryland, Washington travel and military access. Probably why the cargo ship „accidentally“ rammed the bridge at night where no one could see it target the structure. How does a cargo ship miss the middle.
Vanisha Barbie is a great name. Name means Queen of the Universe.
It feels like a 9-11
Not even close.
They have more bridges that would have had a 911 scenario. This was just a tragic accident
@@buckshot4428 I think you guys are just misunderstanding what shes saying. Just the scale of destruction, and it was a giant collision, taking down the whole structure. pretty similar honestly, I can see where the comparison can be made
No, it does not. At. All.
It’s has stop production for the warehouse I work at . My prayers are with the family’s 😢
I use the bridge almost every week! SCARY!
the first interviewee's hair looks amazing
She looks beautiful inside and out.
Just another good reason for making the stuff America needs in America! Made in the USA means something for American citizens!
I'm live in the UK just watching what happened lost for words
I am not convinced the bridge was tall enough for the ship to pass under to begin with. How in the heck do you miss seeing an obstacle this large. It will take some time to replace the bridge. Was the boat captain asleep?
The boat lost power a couple of times right before hitting the bridge column. The Captain could not steer with no power.
Saving grace is this didn't happen a few hours later.
I am not sure this is nothing more than a bad accident. Hopefully people can stay sane on this and not start getting politically so we can learn what actually happened and do whatever we can to prevent it in the future.
This is so devastating 😮. Wow you just never know
Prayers to all the construction workers and their families, dangerous enuff working on the highway at nite, then some idiots run a ship into the bridge!!!
A boat took out the brige to a major population city? OK.
Felt it 13 miles away
i live around 5 miles as the crow flies from the bridge, i was up at 1:30 as i normally am, and i heard it! it was a loud yet distant type roar or boom i had even posted on f/b what the hell was that noise, sounds like a sonic boom!
Why is Rebecca Turko smiling and grinning through her report?
Looked like controlled demolition triggered on impact if the ship.... You can see thermite charges sparking at key points.
Isn't it wild that the day after the US abstains from the UN ceasefire vote, we lose a bridge.. crazy world we live in.
I don't think you're right about that.
It could have been far worse! Imagine if it occurred during morning or evening rush hour? I remember when the bridge in Tampa collapsed!
They used thermomite to help bring the bridge down! Thats what you heard and felt! In otherwards...demolition!
I bet they felt I. Last week neighborhoods had tree cut down an when it fell we heard it an it shook our whole house an we across the street
Reporter: “That’s the type of folks we are talk8mg to here”! WTH 🤢 😠
Is that bridge the Hazmat route into the city, or just heavy truck? Yikes.
