@@alinurgas2769 Well it’s not like he had much of a choice. It was either he made an example out of the boy, OR spare him and give thieves the impression: “Come and steal all you want from me, I will not punish you”. At least he had the guts to carry out the punishment himself. The correct decisions are often painful, that’s the burden of being a Feudal landlord.
@@jackbelinski2661 I disagree disrespectfully. That was never Ketil's mentality when he beat that boy up. If he had his way he would have let those two kids go, he was just trying to portray himself as something he wasn't and cover up the lies he told everyone about what type of person he was.
@@alinurgas2769 Even if that wasn’t his mentality, even if he didn’t want to, none of that would have changed the circumstances of his situation. He doesn’t have enough man power to protect so much property, so if he didn’t punish the boy, local bandits would have gotten the impression that the landlord is not willing to punish theft, resulting in theft activity getting worse. I’m not trying to justify the beating of a child, but this situation made it hopelessly unavoidable. Even if he beat the boy, it’s better than letting him be brutally killed by his son.
