Children are lazy and not real enthusiasts. Plenty of channels have no views on their original content but any recent clickbait gets 10 million views. Back when people blogged more fans would read the entire thing about nothing (I went to the grocery today).

For sikhism you explain it good. But just to tell you that woman also can wear a turban. But sikhism is so complex that I understand that you cannot explain everything. As a sikh i’m really happy that you talk a bit about it. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh 🧡🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

How is it complex? Do you have an example of a specific topic that is complex? Your perception of God?

    • @rustyspurs771
      @rustyspurs771 3 роки тому +10

A clock is simple. It keeps time. The inner workings of a clock are complex. They are complex enough that asking any one person to explain what they are and how they interface is not the sort of question that one should expect someone to reasonably answer.
They'll just say something like, "Go buy a book" or "Go apprentice for a clock-maker" And so, in a similar vein, if you want to learn about Sikhi, go watch some videos about Sikhi.

@@anneeq008 well you can look at sikhism with 3 different ways, dualistic(soul and god are different, though never defined like that by any of our gurus but most blindfaith people belive it in this way), qualified non dualistic( soul is a spark of god traditionally), non dualistic(soul is god) and you can find all of this in sikhism and gurus dont differentiate between sarguna and nirguna brahman or god but they say its the same thing or being. bhagvad geeta tells about 3 different yogas aka. karam, bhakti and gyan yoga, but our gurus combined it fully, they say be a householder(karam yogi), do your nitnem or devotion towards that single entity(bhakti yoga) on daily basis, do meditation so gurus grace can illumined the wisdom inside you( gyan yoga). Sikhism is a depth religion not complex, it is a simple religion, it dont argue with any philosphy but gurus say "if you are thirsty come to me i know what you need" and we all need to be one with that single entity once again from where we all came, that is final destination or purpose of a sikh.

Love your channel, brother! As a Baha'i, I thought that your two videos on the Baha'i Faith were so well done that I shared it widely among the Baha'is - here in Australia anyway. Your particularly rocked the pronounciation of all the Arabic/Persian terms. Enjoyed seeing the Baha'i Faith included in this top ten. I thought it was particulary sensitive of you to avoid showing a picture of Baha'u'llah in your videos on the Bahai'l Faith. I hope you're able to maintain this sensitivity in any future videos that are either on the Baha'is, or that includes them. Keep up the good work, and thanks for your efforts. All the very best. -william johns, Albany, Western Australia

A lot of what you have said about Hinduism is quite accurate. I beg to differ about the terminology Hindu. The River Sindhu is the origin of the name Hindu. All inhabiting the land on either side of the river banks are Hindus which is a corruption of the name Sindhu. And you are right when you say that many conquests were responsible for this. In fact the Greeks named it Indus.
So Hinduism began as a code of conduct for the people of this land. It is still not a religion. And yes, we have accepted the term Hindu without any fight just as we have accepted several cultures and faiths which have made our land their home.

Your work is outstanding. Thank you for the excellent content.
    You mentioned “Folk Religions”.
I wonder if you have ever looked into the West African religions and how these religions were brought over to the Americas as a result of the slave trade. These religions developed into
Syncretic systems, combining the African religions and certain aspects of Catholicism. There are three locations in the Americas which are focal points for these practices:
    1) Cuba (Regla de Ochá, Regla de Ifá, also know as Santeria.
    2) Brazil (Candomble, Umbanda, Batuque, Xango)
    3) Haití (Vodoun incorrectly called Voodoo)
These religions have greatly influenced the cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean.
I just thought you might be interested.

With all due respect, the First Noble Truth of Buddhism doesn't consist of "the fact that all life is suffering". A more accurate rendering would be that dukkha (a word that means something more like "unsatisfactoriness") is a condition of existence. But the Buddha didn't in any way deny or discount that beauty and joy were also part of our lives.

    • @highwaytothesun
      @highwaytothesun 3 роки тому +13

suffering is a fine translation of dukkha, as is unsatisfactoriness. The term dukkha is derived from a word referring to a wheel that does not fit properly on its axel, making for a rough ride, as compared to sukkha, a smooth ride (ease, bliss). The whole suffering vs. unsatisfactoriness with regards to translation is a bit of a sop for people who are turned off by the thought that the things they are clinging to may be causing them suffering.
I will agree though, that the first noble truth didn't consist of "all life is suffering." more accurate would be something along the lines of "Now this, bhikkhus, is the noble truth of suffering: birth is suffering, aging is suffering, illness is suffering, death is suffering; union with what is displeasing is suffering; separation from what is pleasing is suffering; not to get what one wants is suffering; in brief, the five aggregates subject to clinging are suffering."
If we were to accept that 'All life is suffering' we would be at odds with the third noble truth which presents the possibility of life without suffering.

worth expanding on the idea of suffering in buddhism! the pali word is dukkha, which has wider connotations than just suffering, sometimes translated as stress, unsatisfactoriness, or even unreliability. this is due to "anicca," the fundamental uncertainty or impermanence of all conditioned phenomena (all things)

It is very much the religion of my kindred, no one else follows it and we dont even accept conversion, I suspect many of us are actually atheist but just follow the religion for it part of who we are.

As a Vajriyana Buddhist myself, I need to clarify something, unless you are a mix (like Shinto buddhist) then there is no gods or God at all. We have Bodisattvas which could fill the role but they are more like Catholic Saints than gods. I know Yidam translates to meditation deity, but it's more a lack of better words than anything else. Thank you for the video still

Just one minor quibble as a fan of Roman history - Though Constantine conquered in "this sign" (whatever Christian sign that actually was) and was the first roman emperor to convert to Christianity, he did not make Christianity the official Roman state religion in any real way. He certainly supported Christians and Christianity and did much to push Christians from being a persecuted minority towards being part of Roman establishment, but Christianity didn't become Roman state religion until the end of the 4th century.

I’m an Inclusive Christian but “Christian” Unitarianism can work, but it’d be even more rare than it already is. Reason being: it’s [seemingly] flawed at a fundamental level. It’s hard to use the same “Christ” to back according to the average Christian. They would have to use the OT or the Paul’s writings- they’d use Jesus Himself. There 100’s of Christian Unitarian sects in the last couple Centuries and 99.8% of these groups were directly associated with legitimate Cults. Only 1 Christian Universalist in Protestantism (Martin Luther in 14th Century) NEVERTHELESS, we should still be open to that possibility.

I'm a Hindu. You are wrong on the word 'Hindu'.
It's not given by Muslims and then used by Christians.
You could say Persians (Zoroastrianists) before Muslims used the term 'Hindu' because they couldn't pronounce 'Sa' consonant the way it is hence they have consonant 'Ha" for it. That's why the word 'Sindhu" became "Hindu'.
But then, it weren't even the Persians who gave Hindus this term. Also the word hindu is given by the Saurashtra region in Gujarat in India.
This is the best knowledge I have for now about this.

Re Folk Religion, speaking from what I understand about Chinese cultures, people worship prominent historical or mythical figures for different virtues or purposes. For example, Guan Yu (關公 Guan Gong) which was a warlord in the Three Kingdoms era, represents bravery, loyalty and strength and was worshipped by martial groups (e.g. from police to gangsters) in particular (but not only). Ma Zu (Goddess of Sea) was worshipped by fishermen along the coastal areas for peace and safety when working in the sea. For other culture I can think of Pachamama of Andes.

You have a good sense of humor.
Disagreeing with your list of the top 10 religions (in terms of the number of followers) would be pretty silly because said person in disagreement would have to show how the Pew research is false. That being said, I have heard both that Islam is the fastest growing religion and that the Church of Latter Day Saints is the fastest growing religion. It may be an evangelical tactic to put for false information that is outside of reliable sources and research to claim that “our religion is increasing the fastest in number of devotees”, implying “hey, we are the fastest growing religion and you should come along to ease your FOMO.”
Evangelical fundamentalist Protestants (e.g., folks who stopped being friends with me because I realized Christianity is not right for me, comments from family... good thing I’m introverted) seem to have given up on “bringing me back into the fold.”
Which is nice, in all honesty.

A soul is a loaded term, it implies an eternal entity within yourself that can be distinguished from other souls. That is contradictory to the idea that reality is built out of impermanent non distinguishable aggregates of conditions which includes you as well. Atman is the closest thing to the idea of a soul, and every Buddhist tradition I've participated in or studied will say there is no soul in Buddhism.

Not really because even within large already denominations there exists other churches or philosophical thoughts separate for example the Catholic Church most people think of today is the Roman rite but there's other churches like the African Catholic and the Eastern Catholic etc.
To get a more precise answer to how many denominations there are first try to think of the movements that the churches adhere to i.e like Pentecostalism, Methodism, Baptists, Sabbatarians etc. In modern Protestantism.
In traditional protestantism you have the Lutheran, Anglican, Reformed, and Calvanisitc churches but they have some splinter churches due to a more liberal vs conservative approach to the Bible.
And Orthodoxy is divided with Occidental and Oriental depending on the society they are part of.
Then you have a few other Christian churches that some people say aren't Christians or fall under their own history.
The ones that I can say that isn't considers christian at times is Mormonism since this movement has different teachings than mainstream christianity.
One that has a different history is La Luz Del Mundo.
As to what constitutes a person a orthodox or heterodox christian?
I think it can be summed up by belief in Jesus as G-d.
With acknowledgement of the Holy Spirit and the Father as G-d as well.
I mean some Christians are Unitarian etc.
So to be honest there can be a lot denominations today but some just split off because they didnt like the color of a carpet but shares the same theological teachings as a church down the road while other churches split out of theological traditions or cultural incompatibilities according to the Bible.

The problem with population stats (an example): how many Catholics are there in the world? Well, depends on how you are counting them. 1. anyone baptized Catholic will be considered Catholic (by the Church), even if, later in life, they reject the religion (or even convert to something else?). 2. What if you only count membership? There will be baptized Catholics who are not members of any Catholic church. 3. What if you survey a sample of the population and ASK people what religion they identify with? Many baptized Catholics will no longer identify with the religion. I suspect the Catholic population is so high is because this is the "official" count according to Church records - i.e. anyone ever baptized a Catholic, even if (literally) in name only, perhaps to appease a Catholic grandparent. But, in practice, the actual count of Catholics committed to the faith will be much smaller. They may actually prefer a different (perhaps Protestant) church or some other religion or none at all.
Then there is the question of how OLD are the stats one is looking at? Naturally, the older the stat, the less accurate it will be, since population is always changing: new people being born, old people dying. Some religions are growing in size more or less quickly than others, while other religions are losing members, also at different rates.

Baháʼís believe in Muhammad as a prophet of God, and in the Qurʼan as the word of God. Baha'i teachings 'affirm that Islam is a true religion revealed by Allah'; accordingly, members of the faith can give full assent to the traditional words of the Shahadah.[2] Muhammad is taken to be one of the most important messengers of God as an "independent" manifestation of God. Furthermore, Baháʼís believe that the Báb, a central figure in the Baháʼí Faith, was a descendant of Muhammad through Imam Husayn,[3] whose coming was foretold by Muhammad. ʻAbdu'l-Bahá, the son and successor of Baháʼu'lláh, wrote that 'His Holiness the Prophet Muhammad made a covenant concerning His Holiness the Báb and the Báb was the One promised by Muhammad, for Muhammad gave the tidings of His coming.ʼ[4]
