      @@Zelchinho Yeah... People tend to overestimate their fighting ability especially men. I only play quest 2 thrill of the fight yet in my head I am a pretty competent boxer until proven otherwise.

      In that context, that's probably true. An IM looking to draw the chess is likely to be able to do it if he manages his time well. But then the IM has to win on the ring....

    The biggest difference I think was that Trent was prepared to hit but wasn't ready to get hit. Aman shocked him, he ate Trent's punches, moved forward, and held his ground. Trent really did not expect the blitz

    Aman landed some great punches in this fight. Outclassed his opponent in both chess and boxing. The ref did a great job with the early stoppage, and even though Trent was upset, he was clearly staggered. Even if it wasn't a perfect stoppage, refs will always err on the side of caution for amateur fights in order to avoid unnecessary damage or injury. Very well done 👏

      Great call by the ref to stop the fight, you could see in the replays how Lawrence got rocked. Would have loved to see the fight go on, but it would have likely ended in a straight K.O.

      Why? It's true there are less differences between GM and IM level when they are playing blitz chess. Even some FMs manage to compete with strong GMs in this time control

      I'm talking about the difference between IM (2400+ FIDE) and GM below 2600 FIDE. Those GMs are much better than IMs in classical chess. But if you compare them in blitz, their strength is often similar.
      Aman is 2437 FIDE right now. His best blitz peak online is 2899.
      Levy is 2322 FIDE and the best blitz peak online is 2860.
      Aman is better than Levy in Blitz (best peak but also more solid/consistent), but they are not so far.

      @@gp2776 it's not deleted and I see it, I definitely agree that super gms are a different breed, but gms is the path between both, I'd say if going for an offensive either loss either mate game, run of the mill GM would beat an IM 75/25 if you add draws a IM might be able to squeeze it and it would be 45/30/25 probably even higher in favor of the gms. GMs are still much stronger, I definitely agree that in this format you lose points depending on your performance at the boxing so the line is more vivid, but without it, GMs have the very clear upper hand

      Yeah, IMO people complaining about the TKO call aren't clear enough on what this exact part shows. When someone falls like that with their arms just kinda outstretched & their face blank, that's essentially a split-second knockout, plausibly enough to show concussion signs when examined later. The ref stopped the fight because of the CUMULATIVE impact of the later hard strikes on top of this already serious stun.

    Aman's trainer is really good. He was in rough shape when he first started training. Still rough but much better now.

      He’ll be okay if he doesn’t keep getting downed like that, but he got knocked down 3 times already. If he keeps doing this weird chess boxing nonsense and doesn’t learn how to defend himself, how long is his brain gonna hold up?

      Yep, Trent's gait was quite disturbed after the last exchange, you can see him limping slightly. He may have taken some damage he isn't aware of.

      I totally disagree, boxing is supposed to be a spectacle of glorious primal violence not to be called off the moment anyone gets sightly hurt. If I were tent I would have turned round and knocked the ref out for ruining the fight.

      @@TyrannosaurusCHEX same crap happened during the creator clash, the refs have a duty to keep the participants completely safe as they are not professional boxers. if one of them gets seriously injured it will look bad on the ref. so some take it way too cautiously imo

      Understand that it's not simply because it will look bad for the ref, it's because the participants aren't career boxers. Some of them obviously don't know how to mitigate damage and prevent lasting conditions like CTE. These people have to go back to being streamers/chess players, and they need their head intact for that.

      If they were doing these fights regularly then fair enough but since this is going to be a once in a lifetime event I say they should have been allowed to leave everything in the ring - I'm pretty confident neither man had the punching power to cause brain damage in a single bout.

    honestly you could tell aman was dangerous right from the entrance. he came in confident, relaxed, feeling his music, and unfazed by the crowd. thats a hallmark of great fighters.

      It was unfair... Aman gave a killer first blow but Lawrence was trying to even it out...but then he was stopped...
      I am no expert in boxing, but in the other instances where a TKO was given, it was kind of obvious that 1 person was clearly having upper hand... and the persons seem to agree as well... But in this case not so much...

      @@TheUnrulyMonster Re-watch it - when Lawrence is walking back to the ropes/talking to the ref his legs are wobbling. Dude had the equilibrium knocked out of him and was already halfway unconscious at that point.
      The only caveat is there was so little time left in the round, he might have been able to play it safe until the bell ran out and then use the chess time to recover more than a typical boxing break would allow. But if the ref didn't separate them at that point, there's no recovering your lost equilibrium while you're getting hit - dude 100% woulda got knocked unconscious with a couple more shots to his head and he wasn't able to properly defend himself.

      At least could have waited for a proper punch....

      @@TheUnrulyMonster Lawrence wasn't even defending himself in that last flurry, and couldn't even walk. If the ref didn't stop it, he definitely would have been knocked out (since he wasn't even defending himself.) If you're saying he should have had a standing 8, he was, but the purpose of a standing 8 isn't to give them 8 seconds to recover, it's to give the ref time to determine if it's safe for them to continue. He quickly evaluated it wasn't since he couldn't stand properly and struggled to turn to him. Maybe he should have given Trent a couple more seconds to see if he was ok, but it was definitely not unfair. Trent misunderstood what a standing 8 is.

      Actually, she probably could have won if they actually ran with the standard rule of stopping the clock during a stoppage, you know, hince the name. They haven't been doing this throughout the whole event, which makes no sense and is completely unfair.

      @@Ghastlymane No, stoppage's do not actually stop the time. It stops the bout for the ref to evaluate if it is safe to continue. That being said, Andrea still should have won since the ref started the 3rd standing 8 of the round. Instead of a standing 8, it should have been the match called, but the ref made a mistake. I don't know why you think the clock is stopped, it's not even stopped if it's a mandatory eight count (ie the person being knocked down.) Stop making shit up.

      @@IlluviumGaming I was wrong about the professional part, but in amateur boxing they stop the clock to make it fair for the other fighter (the one not getting a count) since they don't have the skills required to finish off their opponent in a shorter amount of time.

    Didn't expect such incredible chess to be followed by a pretty impressive display of boxing as well!! They must've taken their boxing training just as seriously as their chess training. Bit sad about the early stoppage, but they weren't wearing any headgear and those WERE some pretty hard hits. Congrats to Aman for the win.

    Aman definitely trained harder than Trent, maybe not in length of training but definitely in his dedication to it. You can even see their confidence in their pre-fight pictures. Aman came determined to win. Trent seems a little bit too nervous/hesitant.
