Excellent movie, till end keeps your heart racing. With only a small set of characters, the plot well woven and narrated. well done, thank you cinema cinema for uploading
What a stupid place to dig a defensive hole. In the middle of a field with no cover, and a long run over open ground to safety. The British Army had more sense than that.
@lordmountbatten154 yes. People were stupid then. Just like standing up in a line in an open field and letting people shoot at you. Like the revolution but not as much in the civi war. Still happened. But it was dumb none the less. After that the Americans began to realize it was stupid. Maybe I'm just to modern of a soldier. A vet. To think that was a good idea.
Good film, but couldn't they find French actors for the French characters? The old man and his daughter, near the beginning, are obviously English. Sort of spoils it.
3:07 No wonder these guys are losing. Their sergent has no bullets. He is supposedly loading a new round after firing, but not a single shell has popped out of that rifle.
Good movie BUUT the ending could of showed afew minutes of all the guys that escaped doing different things of what they all planned to do like seeing their familys or joining back up with their military's or whatever makes a good story not just 1guy on ah boat and then "THE END" kinda dumb imo,but still overall ah good movie 👍🙂👍
Strong acting but a few bug bears with some details. Sideburns were not worn by WWII soldiers, so a couple of the actors including one of the Germans should’ve been sent to the hairdresser. Also, these Germans were SS, so why were they guarding low ranking Brits for several days, when they should’ve been handed over to the regular German army for transport, so they they could’ve done more important things.. Also the SS were known to kill British POWs caught near Dunkirk. These Brits were lucky.
Neville... Yes. But the interest of this movie is elsewhere I guess. True yur remark on use of Waffen SS as guarding POWs. They had other targets. Of course they killed POWs in pas de calais near Dunkerque... but this was a minority... Fanatics.. Brutes... Psychopaths. Yu had the same behavior in allied camp in 44. Especially US mobsters engaged in US army who did same bullshits killing german soldiers the kept as prisoners. Rapes on french women... Even bank hold-ups. One of my aunt was at military US martial court in Nancy (Fr) until De Gaule push out of France the US forces... She was telling us all troubles those soldiers made in 44 and even after end of the war. Talking about german soldiers in Wehrmacht even Waffen SS we must be carefull when we talk about their "reputation" in sadic behaviors. My maternal family flood germany in 35 (to france where they continued in the french resistance until 45) becose they began the fight against Adolf very soon (in 20ties just after the aborted putsch of Adolf in München). But rest of the family who stood in germany inaugurated jails then finished in camps as, Dachau. Some where sent on russian front or finland. They had no choice. My own pa' (born in köln but from irish- american parents) escaped to same fate after he was 17 y.o when he was at gymnasium in Metz (Fr). German authorities were recruting young moselans... German dialect speakers as he was himself : perfect german perfect american and average french. My gran ma felt the storm turning just in time and sent him quickly in Nancy a french speak8ng town. To escape to be sent in a waffen SS section on russian front as most of his friends who never came back. We call them "malgré nous" those poor guys moselans and alsacians who were obliged to fight for Adolf. Some make the choice to join nazi regime. Not so many. I have lot of stories about this strange manner to see all germans as nazis. After end of the war (!). This is not to deny what happen. I am just saying be carefull : before Adolf took the power progressist movements were strong in germany... And they are supposed to become suddenly nazis in 33...35 .. All ?! Look at votation results before 33. Half of them were against nazi ideology. Lot lost their life quickly as mine.. Most were obliged to collaborate with the regime but denied it to led their lifes. And don t forget in usa.. GB Fr etc ... All over other allied countries Nazis were influent too !!! Hum ?!
@@Sir_Bear88 The casings definitely did not eject, nor were there any rounds in the rifle when they were racking the bolt. The rifle type could be accurate, though, as the No. 4 was not yet in widespread service and I believe the BEF did use SMLEs prior to the Dunkirk withdrawal
My Oppa / gran' pa' was end of juny 1914 champion of box cat mid heavy and "savatte" of all french army. In august 14 he was sent in trenchees. He was wounded 3 times became srrgeant in 1915. Rebel in 1917 he was sent to kasbah with his belgium sheperd dog after his 3d wounding ( a schrapnell in his head). Got out of the war safe. Multi decorated becose of his courage and heroïc lonely actions. He was hyper-violent. He spent years in germany in occupying french forces. German dialect speaker... Living on french german border (his ascendance was originated from Tirol austria) he married my Oma / gran ma half german half Alsacian. Progressist minded they began the fight against Adolf soon after the abirted putsch Adolf tried in München beginning of 20ties. Then in 35 they flood back in france and continued the fight in french resistance until 45. He trained all my uncles and aunts, (included my ma') with boxing practice. And gymnastic. One of my uncle gave me an authentic autograph of Marcel Cerdan (with Edith Piaf one too...) He got personnaly from this great champion born in algeria after a match . I still have it. My gran pa was a true sportman... Fair... Gentle but a terrible fighter becose of his hyper violence. Dangerous guy. everybody around him knew it. When I saw a movie of Bertrand Tavernier " capitaine Conan" ( same kind of character lonely special bloody fighter in dardanelles during 1st WW) it recalled in my brain what I read in vincennes french army archives... Records about what did my gran pa between 1914 and 18 then in germany till 24 in french occupying forces. He was sentenced there 3 times cose he broke heads of silly french soldiers beating german civilians by... Revenge. He could n t bear such bullshits. So.. He sent some bad guys "out of order" K. O. Badly injured. And was condemmened but lightly cose of his former heroïc behaviors. He died in 47... 56 y.old becose of his injury at head which couldn t be surgerically cared. Sad fate for a good guy I never saw.
So I have actually paid and watched this actual movie at a movie theater. The idea that a ex-boxer will have anything to do with how fast the British needed to recover those troops is ridiculous.
Overall decent flick, the punches in the second fight were poorly done being they were a foot away and acting hit and the ending needed a bit more. Felt unfinished.
Wow 😢tears in my eyes as the young soldier gave his life for his friends. Can’t help but think of how the Lord Jesus ✝️🕊️ have his life for mankind so they could spend eternity in Heaven. 📖 JOHN 3:16

I've seen some terrible reviews of this film, but I disagree. Yes, it's low budget so I'd expect less 'gloss' than a production from a a major studio. However, a credible storyline, well acted - not a ham in sight! Great script and with some creative one-liners. Thank you. (One criticism though. My knowledge of German is limited but even so, the dialogues in German sounded distinctly weird).
Whoever was in charge of the costume department should’ve been sacked… the German soldier that marched the 2 English boys off was supposed to be SS. SS uniforms bore the eagle & swastika on the left sleeve, the soldier had his on the right side of the chest
This movie is bit more realistic when describing how it was. Germans were portrayed in most films as idiots whon dont know how to fight. Like in that movie Resistance in 2018. One deserter was able to kill ten German soldiers in the woods. Alone. Wtf. Most of second WW II were very alike. Nazi regime was cruel, there is nothing good in that. But in battle field they knew how to fight. And actually there was Wehrmacht, the German Army, and then the true Nazies. Most fighters were not Nazis. Its easy to forget the facts. The rules ans memories are aleays done by winners.
Some kind of sanatorium, if you compare it with the conditions in which Russian prisoners of war were kept... They would have been shot 50 times already for the tricks and liberties that these guys allow themselves in the film.

What a stupid place to dig a defensive hole. In the middle of a field with no cover, and a long run over open ground to safety. The British Army had more sense than that.
Can't help it if the writer is goofy.
Your outrage has me laughing to myself, because you're right.
Worse yet, they only had pop guns! No shells came out when they racked the bolt!
That’s the way it was in the trenches war, no guessing at all, just facts.

Die Schauspieler die die deutschen spielen können nicht mal gut deutsch, aber trotzdem sehr unterhaltsamer Film
Fikcja ale dobry film.

Multumim pentru subtitrare❤
Sorry. Low budget nonsense from the first frame...with the Sgt wearing his helmet the wrong way around!
Only story abt game n game is for 35 mins, its great in those days to direct
Decent enough film tbh.
Danny. Danny...did he make it out? I think the ending is not so good.
Strong acting but a few bug bears with some details.
Sideburns were not worn by WWII soldiers, so a couple of the actors including one of the Germans should’ve been sent to the hairdresser.

These Brits were lucky.
I also noticed SMLE's not Lee Enfield Mk 4's and the spent rounds not chambering :D

The second German boxer I think is Mike Tyson's old sparing partner
That looked more like a bomb crater than a fox hole.
