Tasneem Mountaj if the break is further down the wire, you can solder the wires together but if it’s close to the plastic connector part you will need to cut into the plastic carefully and desolder the wires from the pcb then solder the wires back onto the pcb and insulate the whole thing with heat shrink and hot glue. A lot of work so if that’s the case you’re better off buying another cable and ensure that you only buy an apple or apple verified one because most offbrand ones will not work and a pop up will show on ur screen saying the cable is not apple verified, even if it works at first, after you update your iOS then the cable might not work anymore.

Yes, good point. The self-fusing silicon rubber electrical tape is easier and faster and way much better than regular electrical tape but doesn't look good as a heat shrinking tube. At least in my opinion. In this video, it's all about the good-looking effect. It's a hard way but looks more esthetic.

It's highly recommended to cover the open wire in any electrical devices. You may use shrinking tube or electrical tape to prevent yourself from electrical shock or buy new USB/Lightning plug.
Give it a chance. Try heat shrinking tubing. It looks way much better than electrical tape. No sticky cord or unsticking tape after a couple of weeks after repair. Tested and confirmed!
Yeah, that's what I did. Black tape on a white cord. My phone cord is fine but my Apple computer cord did this in several places. My son ordered me a new one but until then. I used tape.

6 років тому
Everybody has the right to have their own opinion.
Main issue: that cables haven't made to be last. That insulation fix is just a cosmetic makeup, not a solution. Wire (or should I say "reinforced foil"?) connectivity is a next malfunction anyway.
6 років тому
After this cosmetic makeup cable still looks good and the charger work pretty fine after over one year. When the connectivity will fail, I'll report in under this comment.
6 років тому
It's not about the millennials. It's all about the environment. *Less electro trash = better future for the next generations.*
I've tested fire from lighter and tealight. Both sources of heat made white shrinking tube blackened (if the fire was to close to tubing) or yellowish (after a couple of days after repair). Using hot air from a hairdryer or heat gun, the is no such things as yellowish tint or smoked layer on to the shrinking tube. I prefer hot air because it gave the best result when we talking about good looking repair as it possible.
if the cable no needs soldering just use heat shrinking tube as it is shown in this video. If the cable needs soldering, and if you don't have that kind of skill than you need to go to a local electrician service or buy a new one (if the cost of repair is higher than brand new charger unit).
On the one I fixed the wire braid had unraveled a bit. I twisted it gently until I found the right position for it to sit like it was supposed to. Then I would recommend using some electrical tape to hold in securely, then put the heat shrink on right over top. I actually didn't bother with the electrical tape as I couldn't find where mine was at the time! Seems to be fine so far =)

use liquid electrical tape then the heat shrink tubing if you want
6 років тому
Good point! The liquid electrical tape gives almost the same results as a heat shrinking tube. If you combine both methods in a proper way, it may give a great final look. But there is one kinda problem, the liquid electrical tape is more expensive than heat shrinking tube so the repair is going to be more expensive. It may be a problem for some reason. For me, it's not a problem. Thank you for the advice!
If it is possible to repair I'll prefer to repair instead of throwing stuff to trash. Less electro trash = better future for the next generations. Think about it in this perspective.
I just put a regular piece of tape over mine until my replacement comes from amazon in 2 days. Hopefully the tape doesn't hot I did not have electrical tape so will only charge when at home until my replacement comes. Not getting hot.Does this happen to a lot of people?
7 років тому+1
This is common issue for MacBook users. Regular tape is not safe, cord may get fire because of this tape. Use electrical tape or avoid to use MagSafe with damaged cord. If You must use MagSafe be careful. Heat or electrical shock may be danger for your health or even life!
Can’t you just use strong tape on it? It’s so much simpler.
6 років тому+2
The tape is much simpler in application but less esthetic overall. After a couple of days or weeks (depend on tape) repaired place get sticky. I've tested a couple different tapes. The heat shrinking tube repair is more time consuming but looks and works way better than tape. In my opinion, of course.

Search for "the heat shrinking tube", you can find it online or in a local hardware store (electrical department). There are two different types of tubes, low and high quality. The low-quality ones are made with the kinda shiny material/plastic. The better quality tubes are matt (they look and feel similar to the new Apple cords). The high-quality tubes are more expensive, and hard to find, but worth it! The high-quality heat shrinking tubes are easier to stretch.
Thank you for the comment and let me know how it goes! 😀👍👍
Mine is broken i I already broke 1 so it my dad finds out he is gonna kill me thanks so much this really saved me from getting my butt kicked😂
I'm glad to hear that 😁

can you tell what you use than pointing them, i dont know what your pointing at
It's tubing size: diameter of 4.8 mm, shrinking to 2.8 mm
Is there any alternatives to this
You may use electrical tape or buy a new cable
This solution will only work for replacing the damaged insulation, if the wires are damaged it won’t do anything
True. Insulation, not connectivity.
I was going to say the same thing. Is there a solution for damaged wires?
@@P2BS97 the time and cost of repairing fully damaged wire in most cases are unprofitable. If you need to repair broken connectivity you need to use a soldering iron.

good job
Thank you!
Would be nice if you included a list of material in the description. Such as the size of the shrink tubing.
Have you read the description? There is a information about the size of the shrinking tubing.
For some reason the description was not visible on the iPad where I first saw this.
Thanks.
Yesterday I discovered similar errors on the iPhone.

Can you use rubber
What kind of a rubber?
some other tutorial insert pen spring in between two cables.
If the cord is fractured, I don't recommend putting a metal spring on it. It's not safe
Any issues if you just wrap up with an insulating tape??
Try to use heat shrinking tube, it looks way much better than electrical tape. No sticky cord or unsticking tape. Tested! Still looks and work pretty fine after over one year. Try to achieve this result with electrical tape, in my opinion, it is impossible.
Omg i have 0% and im on my dads phone and i have school in a few hours😭😭
Have you solved the problem?
No
And wasting the time for comment😂😁
What diameter ist the shrinking cable?
Use shrinking tube (2:1) in diameter of 4.8 mm (up to 6.4 mm) shrinking to 2.8 mm (up to 3.2 mm)
How long does this last on a headset?
Didn't test it on the headset, just on a USB to Lightning iPhone charger cable. After two years looks fine.
Good idea but self fusing silicon rubber electrical tape is easier and faster.
Yes, good point. The self-fusing silicon rubber electrical tape is easier and faster and way much better than regular electrical tape but doesn't look good as a heat shrinking tube. At least in my opinion. In this video, it's all about the good-looking effect. It's a hard way but looks more esthetic.
What kind of tubing is this and where can I get it?
Drinking straws are made for cold drinks, not for electricity
help! I am buying my 4th charger in a week and I am going to get shouted at if I tell them it doesn’t work AGAIN! I cleaned all the lint and mess in both iPad and wire. The wire looks clean and there was no mess in in whatsoever. I cleaned all the plugs. I plugged it in, still, DOEST WORO! Somebody HELP PLEASEEE! When I buy new chargers they work and then all of a sudden they stop working! I’m so tired of this.
Consult this issue with apple support. It may be a problem with iPad not a charger
Oh it works perfectly fine now :)
You see, I have this charger which is like a Samsung charger with a part of the iPhone bit and the Samsung part never worked so that’s what made it ‘broken’
Me: Uses tons of tape on the wire
Me: Give a try to heat shrinking tubing 😁
did the same. used scissors to expand it too 😂
well done 👍
nice
Thank you. Hope it's helpful.

would I sound dumb if I said I got another charger to see if this work to do it on my broken charger???
If it works for you.
If the wireitself is broken can I just butt splice it ?
It's highly recommended to cover the open wire in any electrical devices. You may use shrinking tube or electrical tape to prevent yourself from electrical shock or buy new USB/Lightning plug.
Thanks m8, welp now Ik you can stretch tubing. I cut my cable and fixed it tho lol because it wasn't just the cable that was broken.
Well done my friend!
Lol a bit tape does it for me
Give it a chance.

So... I’m not the only One who’s buying a new cable every 4 months??
You may change it. Just repair the fractured cable. It's relatively easy and way much cheaper than a new cable. Also, it's environmentally friendly
@ : How do I repair the cable?
Follow the step by step instructions in this video
There is a bunch of stupid or ignorant people out there who does NOT understand how to repair things. Yes, it is easy to just buy a new one, but why if it is a simple repair? Oh, forgot were in the age of millennials.
Everybody has the right to have their own opinion.
Main issue: that cables haven't made to be last. That insulation fix is just a cosmetic makeup, not a solution. Wire (or should I say "reinforced foil"?) connectivity is a next malfunction anyway.
After this cosmetic makeup cable still looks good and the charger work pretty fine after over one year. When the connectivity will fail, I'll report in under this comment.
It's not about the millennials. It's all about the environment.
*Less electro trash = better future for the next generations.*
Lighter is best!
How do you fix if it’s bent
if the cable no needs soldering just use heat shrinking tube as it is shown in this video.
Not a repair just recovering

use liquid electrical tape then the heat shrink tubing if you want
I need this
Sorry to hear that. On the other hand, I'm happy that this video may help you.

Holy crap. Just buy one.
This is common issue for MacBook users.
Regular tape is not safe, cord may get fire because of this tape. Use electrical tape or avoid to use MagSafe with damaged cord. If You must use MagSafe be careful. Heat or electrical shock may be danger for your health or even life!
Can’t you just use strong tape on it? It’s so much simpler.
The tape is much simpler in application but less esthetic overall. After a couple of days or weeks (depend on tape) repaired place get sticky. I've tested a couple different tapes. The heat shrinking tube repair is more time consuming but looks and works way better than tape. In my opinion, of course.
Cezary Lopacinski i have had three different pieces of tape on mine and it just keeps falling off eventually....

how do I fix my charger with electrical tape? Thank you!
Use heat shrinking tube. After a couple of weeks or months, shrinking tube looks way better than electrical tape. If you don't have tubing, just wrap around electrical tape over the damaged part of the cord. If the cord is permanently broken, buy new one.
Thank you so much! I will go buy shrinking tube tomorrow. If I cannot find it though, do I also need to use heat to make the tape stay in place?
No. It's not necessary to use heat with electrical tape.
I used white duct tape and looks decent. Dunno if that’s recommended or not🤷🏼♂️
If it's less than a year old RETURN it to an Apple Store. They will swap it out happily.
