Also, Hanson and the show's producers got too egotistical and started to violate laws in the process which lead to the target going free after the arrest.

@@I.am_Groot Welllll...that's not exactly true. There's something in the law called entrapment. This means that someone cannot entice you into committing the crime. This means that a cop (undercover or otherwise) can't goad you into committing a crime you didn't want to do or were unsure about. The producers of the show wanted juicy chats and communications, so they often enticed the people by being forward and flat-out asking the ciminals to commit crimes. Did this count as entrapment? The answer is: maybe. By working with the police, the show as acting as an agent of the police. This got a lot of these people's charges thrown out because the show wasn't trying to follow the law, they were trying to make a good show. There was also the issue of filming. As crazy as it sounds, the people didn't agree to be on the show, and thus they had standing to sue if their conviction was thrown out. The show began to have increasing legal problems. The issue became glaringly apparent when that guy did away with himself. That's why the family sued and won. The show was acting as an agent of the police and enticed people to commit crimes. I have no doubt these people were awful and absolutely would have gone through with the terrible things they were trying to do, but police have to follow the rules. They broke them.
@I.am_Groot well after further investigation into this he was the straw that broke the camels back. TCAP had a history of shady tactics and warrants given out for the coercion and that the police were encouraged by PJ to escalate situations to boiling points for better ratings

Came to the comments to post this EXACT THING!! How dare she say something like that, like he wasn’t well over 40 meeting up with I think it was a 12 year old. “My family has went through a tragic loss” so would’ve the victims family, had it not been a sting operation
White people, am I right? Don't forget about that one dude who raped a girl behind a dumpster and got a slap on the wrist because the judge felt sorry for him...
He has so many stipulations he has to following after release, he will for sure end up behind bars again. He couldn’t even stick to the stipulations while behind bars.
Ignorance is very popular. Hell, we elect the dumbest and most racist among us to office on the regular. The fact that the show was ever cancelled it what surprises me.
@@nrsrymj Hell, you can't even point to a law HE broke. He chatted with the bait, sure, but smelled a rat before he went through with anything and didn't go tot he trap house.
He’s a pervert and his family sue !! I don’t understand why they take it easy on child predators!!!!! They get out early give multiple chances back in society. And repeat offenders.
Many of the predators on the show got released because the show messed up their cases. The whole show was one legal grey area that broke laws catching people.
Meanwhile, "13 Reasons Why" engaged in false advertising regarding suicide and potentially contributed to increases in suicide rates by depicting the act, and still ran for 2 more seasons.
You do realize that "13 Reasons Why" was not real but a show with actors? The way you're talking about it was real! Yes it was about suicide but if you followed along with the whole show (if you even watched it) it also talks about bullies and other stuff! Guess the fact that many real news stories about kids committing suicide because of being bullied just isn't as bad as a television show!
@@ebamjryes, but you also have to remember they went to countless mental health professionals, asking them what “triggers” a su!c!dal person, and then put EVERY SINGLE TRIGGER in the show. Glorifying something like that puts the thought in the forefront of your mind. Plus there were COUNTLESS cases of people leaving videos before committing. That show should have never made it past episode one.
@ElissaHolmes the show was based on a book! I guess the book shouldn't have been written either? More and more people are dealing with mental health more than ever! A show isn't going to make people commit suicide! I think it was trying to teach a thing or two about why that person committed suicide! I personally have thought suicide would end all my problems but I didn't go through with it! Having people bully me when I was younger didn't help either! When I was younger schools did nothing about bullies because it probably wasn't even a "thing" back then!
So one sexual predator decides to erase himself instead of face justice they cancel the show that has saved how many thousands of children from being molested? Wow
The issue is the mindset that this show was helpful. The police do this, without cameras that can assist the predator in court. You can’t ask for the rights a fair trial when you’ve had that aired and your guilt is there. Whine at the legal system. What about the innocent people who are accused through these actions? While the concept is amazing. In practice, more children were actually out at risk because of investigations being affected.
To Catch a Predator should never have been cancelled. It wasn't on them that the guy committed suicide it was on HIM. He made the decision to send inappropriate pics to an undercover officer they didnt twist his arm and make him do it. Sad that his family supported him
The main reason it got cancelled was because the police were sick to death of having to let these guys off with just a slap on the wrist because of the TV crew mucking up the cases! The suicide was just coincidental.
@@jessgunn6639 this is the thing. People wanted to see people facing humiliation for these crimes. They didn’t keep up with the aftermath of the cases 🤦🏼♀️
I am saddened that the guy took his own life after being caught, but that is NO WAY to consider it as an excuse from Justice! I find that disgraceful for the predator's supporters (family) to do such unnecessary backlash. They need to bring back to catch a predator on TV, not just on UA-cam!

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and child pageants both raise important questions about the impact of media and competition on children. What changes do you think could be made to ensure that children’s well-being is prioritized in these contexts?
@WatchMojo i think there are ways to teach healthy competition to children some sport or video games competitions etc. i don't think dressing them up and having them dance around grown adults to look at is healthy. it feels pretty predatory if you ask me. i think if you are going to teach kids to be competitive, it also good to let them know it okay to lose, and they don't need to dress up or do things for adult attention. i would want them to still have fun in the end. through I also have a strong dislike of reality shows like here come honey boo boo and children should be free to be children and not be forced to make parent money.
To Catch A Predator was great. It's always good to see predators get arrested. I don't get how the family of the predator who took his life stood by him even when he was found out to have been sending pictures and text messages to a "minor". That shows a lot about them as well. Hopefully the show makes a comeback.
No one is responsible when another person takes their own life. Suicide is a horrible choice because families are left to deal with the mess, but they are not responsible. It is the same as accusing someone of being responsible for your own drinking, drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling - Unless, you are a bullied child, you alone are responsible for your deeds. I hope, if his family found any money it is jinxed. The money belongs to his victims.
Why didn't the family of the predator who killed himself care as much for the victims of the predator's crimes? Maybe if they pulled him into line instead of excusing or enabling him, he might not have done the crime, got exposed and killed himself. Shame on the court for even hearing the case instead of throwing it out. Shame on the station for cancelling it rather than support the hosts and the show.
I feel you, but at the same time you can't just ignore an entire freaking nation calling out a depiction of thier national hero. It'd be like if they depicted MLK Jr as a hard drinking frat boy who gets laid all the time, it'd be more surprising if it *didn't* piss folks off
Hey lady (widow of the DA who offed himself)…next time try putting more effort into preventing your family from dealing in kiddie porn instead of calling yourself a “victim” of the people who made it known to the public that your husband was a monster. To Catch a Predator did great work to expose these criminals. Shutting that production down did more harm than good.
18:51 - "I want to apologize..." No, you don't. You said something stupid, it got out, and once you realized the possible financial repercussions, you want to do damage control.
Sister Wives, been on the air how many years now? Depicts a white man who has multiple relationships, simultaneously. But a black man who has multiple relationships, simultaneously, that's considered offensive. I call that a double standard.
Having 10 baby mama's is not the same as getting 4 women to agree to marry you. Sister Wives is based around whack teachings of some branches of Mormonism that encourage men to have as many wives and many children as possible. Baby mama culture is just men running around not being able to keep it in their pants.
Imagine being the family that sues a network because the father was a pedophile then was a coward to face the justice. Somebody needs to be looking into that entire family!
@@kidz4p509 We don't know that! They could have been helping him keep his actions from going public. He was a high ranking city official that was trying to hide his pedophile behavior. It's crazy to pay a family for a suicide of man running from justice. The family is just as pitiful as the coward.
If Roseanne had been smart she should have owned the IP on the show and the characters so that if she is fired, she pulls the show out of the station's possession and, once the dust settles, commission the rights to another station.

To Catch a Predator should have gotten an award for getting that monster to remove himself from the population. And the way his family portrayed him as a victim afterwards... they probably knew and covered for him. Plenty of families know a relative is a predator and just turn a blind eye to it
It's crazy watching this and hearing allegations so much. Yet people lives were destroyed with out proper proof. Had a close friend almost do 20 years over a lie.
I think you will find "art" is a way to subjective term to be using. If something is illegal art really doesn't come into the picture! Pardon my pun lol
Tlc just needs to be canceled as an entire network for generating so much brain rot television. Lol literally every show they named here I hated from their inception
Bringing Up Bates (similar to 19 Kids) was a popular show on UPTV that got cancelled when one of the kids (old enough to know better) made a comment referencing George Floyd. One week the show was there, and then it was gone.
I still find it so weird that they fired Paula for being racist outside of the show, but Ree Drummond mocked the food of the entire continent of Asia on air in one og the first seasons and she is still one of the most aired hosts on the food network to this day...
Not to mention that she is reportedly not a very nice person in real life. She's probably said and done some things worthy of being canceled but nobody has come forward.
And Kevin Spacey was found NOT GUILTY of Rapp’s charges and several others. His record is clean, but his reputation - and career - have been destroyed.
@@christopherlake357 So if you are falsely accused and get exonerated, we will just say that the system is wrong and you are still guilty. Can you come up with a better system to find guilt or innocence?
It didn’t get rid of them though, it just “caught” them. People just liked watching that and living in the ignorance that the show actual got in the way of real investigations and helped a lot of people have a legal argument to get off. The show helped the audience. Not the victims.
What next, shows that were canceled not for what people think it was canceled for with shows like Exosquad. We believe that it was canceled because either Universal Studios thought that the show was too controversial or Universal Studios canceled because it bought out other production companies, When in reality it was canceled because of management change at Universal Studios and the new management just didn't care about Exosquad.
1. I have never heard of that show "Flip IIt Forward" or David Benham, but I'm surprise that Fox News hide and fought for that show since people like him would be perfect for Fox News 😒 2. Oxygen should have changed the name from "All My Babies Mommas" to something else because I can see the reasons that show wasn't aired based on the title alone and the premise of the show was a bad look for them 3. I've never seen the movie "Heathers", but I hear that it was a big hit among teenagers during the 80s and making a TV show with that theme just won't work with all of the mass shootings happening in high schools throughout America 4. "To Catch a Predator" was a pretty good show, but it isn't the fault of anyone on the show that the predator took his own life because his life was pretty much ruined now 5. The NFL had p"Paymakers" canceled and I can only assume that is because some of the topics on that show were hitting close to home and a little too real life 6. I remember watching "Megan Wants A Millionaire" and I admit that I had seen Megan on other reality shows and didn't like her, but I was shook at finding out the news that contestant Ryan brutally killed his wife 😱 7. I've never seen or even heard of "Clone High", but messing with an important political figure in another country will get you canceled 8. Those poor horses on that HBO show "Luck", but at least no one sexually mastered them 9. It also sounds like that show "Kid Nation" was also bringing child labor laws because my understanding is that they're only allowed to work a certain amount of hours in a day while in production 10. The host of that show "Sons of Guns" is probably getting his ass kicked for messing around with kids 11. Bill O'Reilly is trash and so was his show and the whole Fox News network as well 12. I remember that CeeLo Green had a show, but I never watched it and now I know the reason it was canceled 13. "House of Cards" what is a good show, but Kevin Spacey ruined it for all of us 14. "Politically Incorrect" shouldn't have done anything that I had to do with 9/ 11 because that was a fresh wound at the time and doing anything like that about 9/11 it's still a bad idea today 15. I remember Honey Boo Boo and that little girl was funny at the time, but I doubt she would've made it up to now despite the Mama June controversy 16. I've never seen Charlie Rose, but little by little all of these guys from television are having their secrets exposed 17. I never heard of the show Luis, but I would say the same thing as number 16 18. I've seen some clips of the original Roseanne and I'll admit that it was pretty funny, but she went all Karen and MAGA on us now smh 19. I think that beam got to the eldest son of the "19 Kids and Counting" and that might've been the reason that he did stuff to other women, but I think that they're being 19 kids also got to him and let him to start checking his sisters 20. I know that this doesn't excuse what she did, but Paula Deen is from the south. I'm not trying to defend her or anything, but her attitude might be something coming down there 🤷🏻♂
When the Emmy winning television shows: "The Rockford Files," "Hawaii Five-O," "Love of Life" and "Family" were cancelled in 1980, despite everything else such as cast and crew replacements and so on.
Bill Mahr has a very successful show on HBO called Real Time with Bill Mahr. It started soon after his show was cancelled and is still running to this day, 24 years later. His career wasn’t hurt at all.
5:53 it wasnt just MWAM that got canceled they scrapped ILM 3, ILNY 3 and so many other shows. It killed the best era of reality TV. It was such a bummer.
I enjoyed the show playmakers. It was way ahead of its time. Dealt with permanent injuries before CTE was widely accepted, the pitfalls of players becoming the target of people leeching on them for their money, and even homosexuality back when it was not the norm and virtually no one came out in the nfl. If there were later seasons it would have been interesting to see them tackle issues like players going broke after making exorbitant amounts of money, health issues including cte, or even some other legal issues. They had a funny depiction of Michael Vick. Truth is stranger than fiction considering what we know now after his dog fighting scandal.
probably should note (particularly for several shows in the top 10 here) that the shows are still going on. Bill Maher has successfully hosted "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO for well over a decade, and "Mama June: from not to hot / family crisis" is a hit for We TV, and they still are making new seasons.
There was this one episode in which the “predator” drove and parked his car in front of the house. He walked up to the door but turned around and walked back to his car. He was jumped, thrown to the ground, and arrested. I thought that was kinda rude.
Yes, but they settled out of court. So thats why they can say only allegations. It went into arbitration not to court. The defenders paid the ones claiming them. In my experience if you are guilty you dont pay people that are accusing you. Come on now.
I think what bothers me the most, is that there is nobody in this entire planet who hasn't screwed up, done the wrong thing , said the wrong thing, and has skeletons in their closet, that if everyone knew, they'd be ass out ! And yet we all walk around canceling people like we're better, ain't nobody better we're all fucked up and flawed
I never understood the to catch a predator thing… That family should’ve put their head down and kept their mouth shut and been thankful that everything they had was a lost when that man was finally prosecuted. Of course, nobody cares about his potential victims that he may have had or could have had. If he did this once he it is likely he had done it before.
Exactly, they wanted to protect his image and really didn't believe it. I have a feeling that they actually knew, but didn't want to believe it until they saw his episode.
the cancellation of clone high was ridiculous. clone gandhi being the polar opposite of his original was the entire point. you didn't see anybody getting their panties in a twist about the depiction of JFK or lincoln or joan of arc, and joan was literally a religious figure.

You can't sue a media outlet for reporting something someone did that caused their family shame
Chris Hansen is still catching predators. The show is called Takedown with Chris Hansen on TruBlu Streaming Network.
It ran for four seasons, they stretch it out, it should only last 1 season, it kinda started a very uncomfortable conversation

Exactly. And to take your own life to me means you are guilty and trying to escape justice
The main reason it got cancelled was because the police were sick to death of having to let these guys off with just a slap on the wrist because of the TV crew mucking up the cases! The suicide was just coincidental.

To Catch A Predator was great. It's always good to see predators get arrested. I don't get how the family of the predator who took his life stood by him even when he was found out to have been sending pictures and text messages to a "minor". That shows a lot about them as well. Hopefully the show makes a comeback.
Chris has his series on True Blue called Takedown, which follows the TCAP format.

They needed to save face and replace lost income. It’s a mute point
They ought to consider resurrecting the show-I’m sure doing that would certainly save so many children from severe trauma.
The family of the predator suffered? How dare they! Only victims here are the ones made by that thing you call family member. Unbelievable!
