  • Winds gusting to 180 mph in eye wall of Hurricane Ian and blue sky eye from Pine Island, Florida. Most intense of the eye wall I shot on my iPad which was destroyed. Hoping to retrieve that footage. Supplies and recovery effort happening now on Pine Island

I was watching your live and I saw you drive right by my dad’s street before you took cover. Thank you and your buddies for helping anyone you could. I got word this morning that my dad was airlifted off the island. We have not been able to find out where they took him. He’s born and raised in Florida and hasn’t left that island in decades. Those islanders are special people. Some of the nicest people you’ll meet. They will pull through this. They are still rescuing people who are trapped. The Cajun Navy are angels. So many people helping. Many injuries and deaths. Saint James City is destroyed. Matlacha will never be the same. Pray for Pine Island.

I'm from Pine Island, too. With my daughter-in-law in West Palm Beach riding it out while my son is on island. We know our homes are safe, but so many others aren't. My heart is hurting for all who are suffering, all over Florida and East Coast as well as our own Southwest FL. communities. I hope we can all be as one in this time of need for so many Americans.

We used to vacation at our Grandparents' home (Matlacha, Pine Island) when I was a child in the 80's & once or twice at our other Grandparents' in West Palm Beach 🙂-You mentioned both! I'm surprised people stayed during Ian-surrounded by the ocean! I remember being in awe of everyone's backyards with private docks leading to the open ocean. But no one was allowed to get in the water & swim from their private docks because of all of the sharp shellfish/barnacles that were accumulated or infested onto the docks. What a great place though! We caught many species of fish from that dock, pufferfish, ladyfish, a huge crab +.
Whoa, think I got caught in the wonderful memories of that wondrous place to an Ohioan kid! 😉
Glad your adult kids made it safe through Ian!❤️

Length of time of "stay away" mandate not given, even an estimate. Very unusual, not sure how this will work out that a gov. entity can actually deny citizens the right to protect their personal properties, structures as well as personal items, and give no more info than to get the hell out of the way. The Water Co. on the island told my son they'd try to keep water running 3 hrs. a day, but they're running out of diesel to run the pumps and were told they couldn't get more delivered. They want that island vacated rather than bother with it, but Sanibel already has a damned ferry service carting them on and off, and delivering supplies. Something isn't right here.

I rode out hurricane Emily in an old house in Frisco NC with four friends from Chicago who had never seen the ocean until a week before. We had one car and all had whatever jobs we could find but we were together living in paradise. The flood came up so quickly from the sound the front yard had little geysers of fresh water getting displaced by heavier salt water, didn't know this then, and barely saved my $200 car by creeping down the highway waiting for it to float the trunk and lose traction but I made it to the airport road which was the highest and closest road. By the time I walked/swam back my friends were terrified as water was already two feet deep in the one story house and no sign of slowing. It eventually got to mid chest level with the sound of firecrackers over the howling which were tornadoes snapping the pine trees. The whole time I'm trying to crack jokes even though it was my first hurricane because I never want to see anyone's face look like my friends' faces but nobody thought my attempts were funny. To make this situation even worse was the owner of the house calling the Sheriff on us because we didn't save what little was in the house which got pushed off it's piers when the wind switched. The water receded so incredibly fast it was like a bathtub stopper had been pulled. My friends left a day later after I dropped them at the roadblock where I couldn't pass or I wouldn't be allowed back on. I never left for the many more hurricanes to come after seeing what I saw and was lucky to just have lost clothes, some thrift store furniture and some rent money. One of the people my girlfriend and I worked for lost his restaurant he built over a few decades and his house but wrote all of his employees checks for "the taxes I took out" that was a lot more than just the taxes which is why I never left for a storm to this day. Can't help if you're not there. Thanks Stosh wherever you are. RIP The Sandwich Shop

Glad to see that you posted again. Was watching on Ryan Hall Y'all. Hope Dom4 isn't totaled quite yet. If the engine didn't inhale water, then it might still run. Battery and air filter will need replacement. Was surprised that you didn't bring the fuel in. I know you got the science package in. Good mechanic down there is Rainman Ray's Repairs, get in touch with him on YT.
Hope you'll be up and running again and ready for the 8-11th of November in WI and UP of Michigan. We're overdue for another storm like what sank the Fitzgerald. Was up for the last one! 20' waves and 70-75mph winds.

It's amazing to me how those palm trees can withstand such high winds. Nature finds a way... and I think that's beautiful. 😊
