- DISCLAIMER - I'm not playing the exact same notes as Allan because I just can't play like him and I guess nobody does. I made this version of his iconic solo take over Gary Husband's song as a tribute because of his influence over my playing. Hope you enjoy

When I first bought Secrets I absolutely hated it. I thought it was just noise. But I had paid the money mostly to hear Vinnie Coliauta (cuz I'm a drummer) so I kept throwing it in CD player occasionally just to "get my money's worth." One day it occurred to me that all the guys on those tracks knew where all the starts, stops and changes were. They knew what keys they were playing in.
I didn't.
The problem wasn't them. It was me. So I opened my ears until Secrets became like my own little university of music. And boy did I get an education. For a period of about two to three years it was the ONLY music I listened to. Daily. Several times each day. I heard something new every single time I put it on until today I know every single note every guy plays on that masterpiece of an album.
I mean imagine being in his band?
"Hey guys, I got this track. It goes like this"
Bee boop grrrr bla bla doo doo doo doo....
And you go "ok right" and nail some of it in a couple of takes like Vinnie did.
It's astonishing really.
Anyway, I mention all this for context. Because I personally do not enjoy your take on this song. I respect that you are a player. I'd be privileged to play with you. But there seems to me something a little flippant and disrespectful in your take on this track. I think you can do better by leaving out half of what you put in there. Any wanker can wank but wanking so hard over a Holdsworth tune is sacrilegious in my opinion. And I say that with all due respect.
Please, just for me, for the guy I described up above, please cut another version. Not necessarily note for note. But more... sober (for want of a better word).
I know you can do it. I'd love you for it. And I think Mr. Holdsworth himself would as well from wherever he is looking down (or up) upon us.

"Gaudy". That's the word I was looking for. A little less gaudy. Everyone knows you're a great player. That's why I came here. Holdsworth could play everything you can and more. But he didn't. Why not? Perhaps meditate on that.
