Good interviews. Glad that these ladies having spent long time abroad value the great Chinese cultures and virtue, notably the family cohesion and kinship. This is the stark contrast to the Western upbringing whereby a grown child will spread their wings to be independent, creating a rift in bond to their parents and loved ones. I am so proud and envious of what China is today. Modernity and pragmatic. The super infrastructure and festivities, glorious food and nature.. everything.
Enjoyed the video, I am in an opposite situation. Born in Hong Kong but grew up in America since 6 years old. I am in my 50s. I want to return to China at least 4 to 5 months every year. I want to live in a place where everyone looks the same and experience that . I am American but I fully want to experience life as a Chinese person ! Currently taking Mandarin classes online so I can speak some when I return. I fully understand why everyone return because of Family !
We Chinese regardless of whether you are born outside China or descendants of Chinese. We should not forget our motherland our ancestry land . Never betray your motherland and ancestry land. You can speak foreign language perfectly, change your name to foreign name, dye your hair to look like foreigners and eat with fork and spoon. But your blood is always Chinese and those western people will never accept you as one of them.
that's because of the media always dividing people. china is diverse as well. they had this protest where one province was complaining there were too many students coming to their colleges from another province lol ..
Thanks for sharing. Would love to visit China one of these days. That has always been my dream to come to China and love the Chinese old traditional cultures.

The girl said people are mobile slaves in China. This happens in all big cities in the west not only in China. The chinese village environment is more suitable for her if she decides to move back China.
Thanks for sharing their stories. Everyone made valid points and raised common concerns, such as the public welfare for those disabled, environmentalism/carbon footprint, consumerism, materialism, and wanting to be around family/people with common backgrounds/interests. In particular, I found it interesting when Shunyu made the comment about how people in the US just grouped her in the Asian category and becoming angry about that (at 20:13). As an American living in Shenzhen, I often hear the words "外国人“/"foreigner" or the assumption of "俄罗斯人“/"Russian" thrown my way rather than getting to know me first or the realization that all foreigners are unique, so it was interesting hearing how you both handle those situations when the tables are turned.
Too much reliance on mobile phones is an issue in many countries, whether it’s a developing or a developed country. As the world becomes more technologically advanced, I can only imagine people’s reliance on technology becoming even worse…

Food delivery service in China should be regulated, you can't entirely blame the Meituan delivery guy, they are like that because they have to. The beeping, the long one, is very very annoying, i am surprised that the Chinese government did not notice that, they are many things the government can do, for example changing the annoying beeping with a nice sounding ones, like ringing bell from bicycle of the old days. The noise pollution in China is on another level, people promoting their food on loud speaker by putting them on in repeat, that is mental! 0 common sense, if I have to work in a shop like that, I'll go crazy in a day!. Chinese people are extremely tolerant or being apathetic, i dont know.
I'm so glad you mentioned the spitting. An old family friend visited China in the 1960s and she said people kept on spitting in the street, so everywhere you went the floor was full of snot. That turned me off from going to China for years. I did go to Hong Kong though in 2002 and saw no spitting, but maybe that was because they were used to British norms, as it had only passed back to China in 1997.
Spitting is less and less, but still happening sometimes, also depends on where you go in china, people have different habbits in different areas in china.
Hello Aiden...how is the living standards in Shenzhen , China ?....I am an nurse here in the USA , I'm planning to visit Shenzhen in the near future....any suggestions ?...
I would say in mainstream area of Shenzhen, a studio rent is around at least 5-8k rmb, but if you like the beach, Huizhou which is around 30 mins drive from Shenzhen Futian, rent is like 2k with beach view. Also, cost of living of food and grocery is very cheap, myself spend around 3k on food per month on grocery, I mostly cook. Overall, besides buying cars or property, cost of living compare to the States, you can expect spending 7k RMB to live a comfortable life.
Shenzhen looks at the standard you expect. There are all kinds of prices. I don't think the cost of living is as expensive as the blogger said. For ordinary apartments, even in the mainstream area of Shenzhen, single apartments are generally about 3k a month. If it's not a particularly high-end apartment, it's usually 2k a month. When people cook by themselves, they usually buy it online and send it to the door. I think they can eat well for 2,000 yuan a month. 5k a month in Shenzhen cbd If you don't buy luxury goods, it is a very comfortable interval.
That is why we soon will redefine what is "adanced" or "developped" society .... the trend is: slow food, slow down, breath in, consume less, work less

I immigrated to Canada 40 years ago at the age of 16. 40 years later, i made it to top 1% in Canada and retired back to Hangzhou with my Chinese wife. Life in China are far more colorful and enjoyable, with lot more places to visit and a far more luxurious life style(when you spend the money). The biggest draw back is air pollution and low quality people. For my family, the only way to enjoy China is to spend your way to higher quality life. (we spend about 1 million RMB a year, so life is excellent)
There is a tanning culture in some places and they will even pay money to tan. They're not catering to foreign aesthetics, but after living abroad for a while they have absorbed and adapted to the beauty standards there. Not all Chinese living abroad are like that though. It depends on who you're friends with and where you live.
Being tan is considered beautiful in Western countries. Being pale is considered beautiful in Asian countries. It’s funny how beauty standards differ based on location.
Good job. Hearing views about China from other Chinese who have lived abroad is good.
Thanks for doing these interviews! It's great to hear the perspectives of so many different people!
Glad you enjoyed it!
