Have not seen this film in a long time. Glad I'm not the only one who remotely remembers it. Fun fact, Toms singing voice is provided by Brad Kane, who was the singing for Aladdin.
I watched this movie for the first time last night, so I can confirm: it's not just the nostalgia, the Mole King's song is the best one. The songs are actually the reason I checked it out, after learning they were done by William Finn (who also did Falsettos, A New Brain, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).
I remember this film! I'm glad that other people are talking about it Edit: I am embarrassed to admit but Tom Thumb/Horace was a fictional crush of mine, but I'm assuming it was because of his voice Elijah Wood, whom I had a crush on as a teen haha. I just think it's funny to look back on.
Not gonna lie, because of this film, I have always thought Thumbelina married Tom Thumb in the original story. It didn't help that "Shrek 2" had paired them as well. I didn't even know Tom Thumb was from a whole different story of his own. As for Bluth's "Thumbelina", I remember seeing parts of it when it first came on to the Disney Channel, then on UA-cam and (maybe) on Comcast... Still, between both this Thumbelina, Bluth's Thumbelina, Ariel and Princess Daria ("The Princess And The Pea"), what is it with Hans Christian Andersen heroines being red-heads? Even in the "Little Mermaid" show, Hans was shown as a red-head despite him having dark-brown/black hair in real life! What was is Hans' destiny to marry a ginger or something?!
i hadn't noticed the red-headed trend! i have seen some older illustrations of 'the little mermaid' where she is blonde, though. i think it's just that red-hair is traditionally associated with "big personalities" like ariel in disney's film and and thumbelina in this film. i also think that tom thumb and thumbelina are paired because they are just similar characters.
@@soapybsuds True and true. With the ladder matter it's like a crossover people have been begging to happen. Though I wonder if the two were ever tied in with the little people from "Guilliver's Travels".
I also remember it was originally distributed by Warner Bros[way before their current villain arc under the Zaslav regime and Multiversus]. It was supposed to be released by MGM but they were having some financial issues at the time. When Don Bluth went to Fox for Anastasia and Titan AE, Thumbelina and Troll in Central Park ended up at Fox due to Don Bluth retaining rights to those films.
Wasn't this movie animated by the guys behind "The Proud Family", "Bebe's Kids" and "Happily Ever: Fairytales For Every Child"? If so, then it's pretty ironic considering that the latter show had their own Thumbelina who was voiced by Rosie Perez and set in the Amazon. Perez's Thumbelina didn't really end up with anyone in that story but she did get a ship-tease with a butterfy named Mario. All while using Rafiki, himself, Robert Guillaume as the show's narrator.
i didn't know that they had another show with thumbelina! it's interesting that guillaume was the narrator too, as he voiced ben in 'the adventures of tom thumb and thumbelina'.
@@soapybsuds Not only that, but the show had other (future) Disney alumnites in their other episodes; Eartha Kitt as The Snow Queen, and Tia Carrere as The Little Mermaid (also Andersen properties oddly enough...).
I had seen this as a kid, and also kinda recently. I had always thought Tom was voiced by Frankie Nuñez until I saw the credits. Wonder if Elijah was reminded of this role while working on Over the Garden Wall.
Please tell me the foster father didn't just abandon Tom in the woods with just the clothes on his back? Did he just drop it on him suddenly, without any preparation?
@VikingTeddy @dabgurlacc8458 don't worry guys, even if he did leave tom in the woods, he gave him a backpack full of things to take with him (e.g., food, clothes, a compass). i just didn't show the scene and it wasn't well-animated in terms of continuity.
This is really well done, i was shocked at your view/sub count being so low. I guarantee you'll get picked up by the algorithm one day, and because of the quality you'll kick off. Keep at it yo.
I remember seeing the dvd and VHS cover of this movie in the store, but I never thought of visiting this version of Thumbelina. It is like you said, I am use to seeing the Don Bluth version. 🐸
Wow, I was just reminded of this movie's existence last night while watching a review of the Don Bluth movie. I think I only watched this once or twice as a kid, so I was surprised how much I was remembering throughout the review (although the Mile King definitely stuck out the most).
You know, I actually saw this version and the Bluth version within a year of each other way back when. However, I sort of conflated them and thought they were the same movie. Realizing that they’re two separate movies is kind of bizarre….
In terms of a main villain this movie absolutely ate compared to don bluth's thumbelina. Peter gallagher's back must be sore from carrying the whole movie after the opening
I literally thought I was the only one who watched this movie as a kid, i'm so glad that wasn't the case and there's finally someone talking about it
of course, i haven't seen too many people talk about this, so i thought i might as well!
The mole king's song has so much untapped meme potential.
this is so real

Why does it surprise you that JLH really sang these songs? She's a singer. At least she used to be before she pursued acting.
"well he may be a fascist but, he's OUR fascist
I remember this film! I'm glad that other people are talking about it

The artstyle feels like if Spectacular Spider-Man was mixed with a little Don Bluth. Not a bad choice, I say.
I thought the animation kind of resembled Disney Channel shows like The Proud Family
So it wasn’t a fever dream.
apparently not! i thought the same thing for the longest time as well!
This movie went triple platinum on my dvd player as a kid

One thing to note, Disney never made a Thumbelina film. The 1994 one you mentioned was made by Don Bluth and his independent studio.

Us finding other people watched this film is the same to Thumbelina and Tom Thumb finding there’s others as small as they are.
How do I remember these characters so well but not the plot? Welp. (Imma go listen to the dong and try to find the movie for free😂)
The movie is actually free on UA-cam with Ads. Watched the other day out of nostalgia, which is how this video ended up in my feed, lol
Please tell me the foster father didn't just abandon Tom in the woods with just the clothes on his back? Did he just drop it on him suddenly, without any preparation?
That’s what I’m saying 😭 just gonna abandon him in the middle of the woods like what is he gonna do?

thank you so much! ❤🖤🦇
UA-cam algorithm recommended your channel to me for some reason. I don't regret it!
thank you!
Disney did so wrong so many movie. Sorry have to say it. Thumbelina and Tom Thumb relationship is so cute.
I remember watching this as a kid on Disney channel
I loved this film as a kid. I can't find it streaming anywhere
i doubt it would be, you'd probably have better luck finding old dvds of it (how i watched it back in the day)
7:57 one of Jon Stewart's only two animated film roles before Zeebad from the US version of The Magic Roundabout titled Doogal
i forgot that film existed! i knew it as 'the magic roundabout' - maybe i'll make a video on it at some point!
I remember seeing the dvd and VHS cover of this movie in the store, but I never thought of visiting this version of Thumbelina. It is like you said, I am use to seeing the Don Bluth version. 🐸
When I was a kid, I think i saw this movie on a train! After all these years, i found it!
Wow, I was just reminded of this movie's existence last night while watching a review of the Don Bluth movie. I think I only watched this once or twice as a kid, so I was surprised how much I was remembering throughout the review (although the Mile King definitely stuck out the most).
I enjoyed this film alot, it been ages i saw it.

so true
I always felt sorry for The Mole King, I can relate
do you know all the words to 'auld lang syne' and what they mean?
This whole movie felt like a fever dream
I think I may have seen a part of it.
Did this air oon cartoon network uk i feel like iv watched this or glanced at it
im pretty sure that it did, however, i only watched it cause i had the dvd 😭
I wanted Thumbelina as a kid, but my mom misunderstood me and got this trash, I did watch it and didn't like it,
thumbelina 1994 is better than The Adventures of Tomb Thumb & Thumbelina’ (2002)
