Man seeing all this brings memories and regrets at the same time. I should have never stopped doin it. Back in early 90s… to be exact I started in 91. Left it in 1997. I had all the power moves, when I seen the air flare I returned to Breakin just to pick that up and just to say I did that. I quit late 96 and returned beginning of 97 because the air flair. Than at the end of 97 officially quit. I’m my times breakin was more uprock and style used from the birth of hiphop. It was really dancing. The breakin really changed once 2000 came. I have seen the battles now and all the weird shit they do. It’s not really a dance to me anymore power moves is another form of gymnastics and has been accepted in the Olympics. Even the people have changed. Not much white guys doin it. I’m from California and In my town it was white dominated but only one white dude did it. In California as a state I never saw an ill b.boy. No white DJs either. Girls weren’t interested at all. Now I see that and that’s all weird but it’s good for hip hop. I came from a time where no one wanted to teach anything to anyone. They were afraid that student may become better than teacher. I had to learn on my own. I had a mentor but even he quit on me because I was getting better a fast rapid pace. I didn’t like the way people were to others and I’m glad that all of you people all over the world are doing it and it’s international. That means the hate has been diminished and y’all support one another. The art form of hip hop in the dance category will live on forever. To all of you new millennium b.boys try and equip yourselves with the old school styles and keep it alive and add your own twist to it. Keep the roots of b.boy intact and support all people. It’s cool to be the bad ass on top but it’s even better to keep the competitiveness in it so moves and new styles can be added. It’s friendly competition and should stay that way. In my times dancers would get shot just for being better than someone. Myself and members of my crew had to duck down and run from gunfire because they didn’t like us. We was ripping them up. Half of my crew is dead and many of them drug overdosed at raves… but it don’t have to be that way and I hope that isn’t the case still. God bless the art and all of you out thee doing it. Keep it alive and keep it fun.
