I remember Grandmaster Caz saying PRs didn't rock with black folks back in the day. Charlie Chase was PR and his folks would always say "why you hanging with them morenos?" Caz said the PRs didn't start rocking with hip hop and breaking until several years after black folks had been on it. So it doesn't matter how much they are "like" you when ultimately, they do not identify as black and do not maneuver through life as black from start to finish. Gina Rodriguez is a perfect example of straddling that fence.
Also, notice how Latinos, regardless of national origin never talk about the issues Afro Latinos face. Whenever there is some latino/Latina pride photoshoot or lunch, it's always the white looking ones there. They might throw Rosario Dawson in the mix at most.

You would get push back from everyone that heard you say it that included the old man or woman that migrated from the south, an old school black panther, 5%center, NOI, Jamaicans.......etc, the list goes on. When West coast music came to prominence they said the N word or profanity in every verse they wrote The southern rappers came right behind them pushing the same ignorant format and people from NYC became conformists for the first time that I knew of. NYC had never followed any trends except for the ones they set. They started using the N word, then they start embracing Bloods and Crips, then drill music and the rest is history. NYC fell from prominence and stopped receiving the respect they have gotten in the past.

The whole “I’m Dominican, I’m not black” is the same thing when jay z made “the story of OJ”. White Europeans do not see themselves as hillbillies and hicks. As goes for black Americans who don’t see themselves as “lower class” black people. I myself am black Dominican. It’s just when people think “Latino” they instantly think of white people. Some people can’t imagine that black people can be Latino. Unless you’re obviously black. But again when it’s so many mixed people in the US who can tell?

The P.R. population in NYC were very abundant and usually lived in the same financially lower middle and low class areas and projects and whenever I heard any Puerto Rican or Dominican my age say it, it never bothered me. And the sad part is that sometimes they're darker in skin color, wavy hair, nose, etc.... In my opinion pick a side and stay with that side. Don't be black in the street or at work and then switch to PR or DR when you're with your family or around people who dislike us African Americans. Much respect to Rah Digga, she was like no it's not accepted for them to say the "N" word period. And I understand Lord Jamar saying it's because they grow up with us 24/7 as the reason they say the "N" word. It's a sensitive subject and always be sensitive to us African Americans listening and accepting non African Americans using the "N" word. I live in Southern California and I sometimes hear the Mexican Americans using the "N" word as if their black and I just look at them like "REALLY"!!! Enjoy your weekend!!!

I'm sure it's different elsewhere in places like Boston, Chicago and for brothers and sisters down south, especially out west having to deal with Mexicans in particular. @@vicfm1574 If you notice my words, I speak in PAST TENSE.
I have not lived in NYC since 1997, I've been living in western NY since then. My time spent here has shown that Hispanics aren't as socially open compared to the NYC I grew up with.
With that said, my experience living with Hispanics was not perfect when it came to the adults. Even when their kids were my best friends/playmates and such. When they get to talking in Spanish in my presence and you notice their tone and body language...you know somethings up. But when asking the kids what that adult said and their reply is "Man, don't even worry about that. He/She is just buggin'", you never forget that.
You could say it was generational, maybe, but with more Hispanics from other countries entering the communities, you can see there was a steady influx of more of those with uneasy/hostile feelings towards Blacks.

@Ish Mel The Incel Then the "culture" must be on their part to hate. What culture have we Black Americans had here in the U.S. except to constantly fight for the right to be free?
And any gains made in those efforts have been an opening for others across the diaspora to come this country.
Funny how that's worked out, huh?!
