Notice the quality difference between that old metal nut and the new plastic one. Plastic is already looking beaten up just getting it on, the old metal one looked solid after all those years. Tired of all things plastic. PVC pipes are fine, but they just went overboard.
Just cus it looks beaten up doesn't mean it won't work. Who knows how much the customer was willing to pay for a new drain. How much would you pay for a shinny nut on a drain you're never gonna look at?
@@Creedmc85 so u dont know how business works right? It could be part of the plumber's warranty. Omg THANK YOU! I thought that was a fancy waste that had that fitting. I’ve procrastinated on replacing the waste as I was afraid I won’t seal it properly! Heading to Screwfix first thing!
Little tip, use a silicone grease on the Dudley washer. Goes on easier as they are really tight on the waste. Brilliant washer though. They never leak!
Plumbers mate for 40 years for all gratings..when waste pipes or traps take a knock there can be a slight movement and the Plumber's mate can take the knock without leaking..silicone and plastic washers not so much..also a good chance of the plastic nut snapping with the thickness of that washer while trying to tighten the nut up.
@@oliverstaunton7537 Hi Oliver, if it hasn't been so tight, it doesn't have to be tightend with a plier. In the plumber business we habe a lot of tools ,which are made for this type of work. Please look at the plastic union nut in the video: it looks terrible for me.
Afternoon MM, Enjoying these videos of your work & helpful for DIY help/ guides. If you have time, please explain when to use a mastic silicone seal or plumbers mate seal. There seems to be a debate going on about this & I am trying to repair a bath waste & overflow leak that's never really worked. Many thanks, R
That's a lot of tension for a plastic washer.. Should've been made of metal like the bigger lock nut or skipped. When the plastic becomes old it's gonna crack 100%.
They are terrible you have use special blades as standard ones won't fit. A work colleague and myself bought one, both fell apart inside a month, don't be suckered in by how cool they look on UA-cam. THEY ARE RUBBISH!
Does it seal the thread of the waste underneath though? Normally have to squidge some plumbers mait underneath to seal the gap around the thread of the waste, before doing up the washer/backnut.
@neil_down_south see the part of the video where he's scraping around the top of the hole in the basin? That's where the flange of the new drain will sit. The suggestion is to put a bead of plumbers mate putty (or silicone) around the hole for the waste to sit on. When you tighten the nut underneath it will clamp down onto the putty and create a great seal on the top side.
Once upon a time I snaked my apartment bathroom sink… long story short, I gagged and dry heaved over the smell, black goo and hair I pulled out. Idk how service plumbers do it. 😂

that utility knife is so cool
Normal box cutter you can do this with screwdriver
So work 👍
Thomas Dudley waste fitting if anyone was wondering. It's brilliant and only a few quid in Screwfix. Keep a few in the van. Nice video, clean job.

The solvent in the spray will harm the rubber! Just get the squeezy tubeof silicone grease. I prefer to use pipe dope though.
Is your silicone grease "food grade" or are you another handyman ?

Amazing work
Thanks for sharing this "replacing" sink video.

Very helpful 👍
What’s that scraping tool? Is it also a knife too?
Причина засорения в кнопке слива воды . Под ней скапливается грязь которую под кнопкой не видно
Those waste seal kits are very good. Stops all the water running down the threads
Ptfe around the thread where the nut will end up. 💯 will never leak. Love these vids im learning all the time xx
There is no connection between the headlines and the video. The correct headline is how to replace WB pipes
Wb pipes?

i have put in thousands of drain assemblies and under no circumstances have i ever had to use silicone
What's that knife called and where did u get it???😊
One hand on the camera one doing the job
No plumber’s putty at the drain and sink??
Good job.Thank you❤
No worries pal
Basin mate or centrepin wastes for the win 👌
Yep defo agree dude!
Ive used plumbers mate for 20 yrs. Not stopping now😂
Do whatever works for you. Ive always used silicon. Both do the job
You know they crack the drain silicon and will most likely block the overflow holes right? Ask me how I know

You should have used the old brass nut.
Those wastes look awesome, no silicone required 👍
There genius mate, basin mait
No waste requires silicone. It bit of plumber mate does the trick
Excellent 👌
Hi there.
The utility knife.
Where did you buy it?
I'm looking for one of those
Thank you
I am so sick of seeing handymen using silicone on sink traps.
A TD basin fitting will NEVER leak

I usually put silicone on the thread, it seals and stops water from leaking there as sometimes those rubber seals don't adhere so well to the thread.

Is that a drum trap?
I'm thinking yes. Maybe good if you accidentally drop a ring in the sink?
Bravo ❤❤❤
One question: is there any particular reason for you for use this trap instead of a J-bend p-trap?? Thank you
Every time I encounter one like this full of silicone I charge them extra $50 😤
