    How about towels you use with detailers like Reload, Release, or Elixir? Are those considered the same as a towel you used ceramic coating on?

      Great question! No, those are different... They can be re-used no problem! Only deficit is that they might not be as absorbent but there is no danger.

    I would love to see a test, where you restore the absorbancy of a drying towel full of drying aid or the softness of a drying towel full of “mineral deposits”.

      Thanks for the feedback. We will think on that and see if we can help. My opinion is they take a lot of washing to really get all of a wax or sealant out... Hence why I never let that stuff touch my drying towels. Mineral deposits are in my experience not as hard to remove from a towel as the waxes and sealants.

      @@SkyCarCare Exactly my experience with drying aids as well. Everybody says “oh just soak it over night with some microfiber detergent and APC”, but that doesnt bring the towels back.
      Do you use vinegar to get rid of mineral deposits ? Most of us DIY detailers have a lot of minerals in our water.

      @@tafl-9198would like to see that. I have two older waffle weave towels I’ve used with a spray sealant for drying that has lost its absorbency. Soaked in Rags to Riches (overrated) for a few days and washed but no luck. Let them soak for a few days in an APC and rewashed. Still have to try them out to see if that worked.

      I have tried that a couple times with vinegar but never found it made a difference for me. It could be I do not have enough minerals in my water to necessitate this.@@tafl-9198

    From my experience after using Dlux, UK 3.0 and Sic, throwing them immediately in warm water and APC doesn’t harden the towels. Let them soak for a day or two and wash separately. I reuse the towels for non painted dirty jobs.

      Thanks for the feedback! Thats exactly what we have told people since the beginning of ceramic coatings. Soak immediately! Should be all set but if you want to be 100% sure then you can use them elsewhere.

    Great tips. Basically low heat through wash and dry cycles. No softener and divide into different wash categories to stop contamination intermixing 👍

    If you drop a towel , can you wash and use it again safely ?

    • @SkyCarCare
      @SkyCarCare  Рік тому +1

      The short answer is no. There is no way to be sure you got all the sand out and it only takes one grain of sand to scratch up your clearcoat. I would demote it to use on non painted areas or (depending on the case) cars that you know you will be compounding anyway.

      @@SkyCarCarelol! Are you suggesting not a single grain of anything abrasive is ever picked up off the surface of the vehicle? I.e - it's only if the towel is dropped that this could occur? Sorry that's absurd.

    • @SkyCarCare
      @SkyCarCare  Рік тому

      No, I am not suggesting that@@gregsullivan7408 Note that I said "DEPENDING ON THE CASE". In other words, I live in Florida, if I drop it on the ground here I get THOUSANDS of grains of sand in the towel... and therefore it would be dumb to think they are ALL going to wash out of it. On the other hand if I am in a state that is not covered in sand and my shop floor is kept clean on top of it then it might be fine. Again, this is what "depending on the case" means. Thanks for chiming in and have a great weekend!
