I remember that night, I was in front of the KISS gig, looked at my program and saw Cult of Luna was playing in few minutes. And I had a vague memory of that name from a list of Josh Middelton (Sylosis) of his all time favourite band. So I left to check them out. Needless to say that I was blown away!!!! But I mostly remember the audience: they (we) were in trance, like a Meshuggah show in slow motion. I'm so happy that I could enjoy them without any expectation, just a raw experience.
Vicarious Redemption may be the best song ever made, look at all of the band members expressions at the outro, and how Johannes really forces every last breath for his screams, incredible!
I'd say CoL is one of the greatest "post" bands ever (no matter what you put behind post by the way, be it Metal, Core, Rock or anything else) They're coming to Paris in three weeks and believe you me I'll be there!
Top 3 bands for me, in no particular order: Iron Maiden! Led Zeppelin! Cult of Luna! Cult of Luna are absolutely sensational with an incredible gift of being inspirational!
Does anyone know why the line-up is so different? There is only one drummer and he is neither Magnus Líndberg nor Thomas Hedlund. Also, the keyboard player is not Anders Teglund and I think one of the guitarists is not the same. As far as I know there haven't been any line-up changes since Klas Rydberg left the band.
even i was thinking the same thing.. well the drummer is Christian Augustin.. the guitarists are the same. it's Andreas Johansson who is missing on the bass. Just look up metal-archives, you'll get everything..
Andreas is playing on that show, guys! The keyboard player has been for the entire Vertikal touring period Kristian Karlsson (playing also in Khoma and pg. lost). I never got a clear answer on Anders but I think he is making movies and can't play live anymore.
They do, there must have been some sort of issue getting them both to this show, as the drummer in this video I have never seen before. Strange, I know...
this is the guy who's usually on stage left/crowd right. their other drummer has at least one other bigger gig (commercially speaking), so it's not at all improbable that he just had to miss this one to play with his other band, etc. dude #2 holds it down, impressively well, though!
I completly understand your comment about the vocals, but notice that those are the kind of vocals used in this kind of music. Isis & Neurosis use the same. Also, they lost their original singer about a year before this gig so it is another factor to take on. The good thing is they somehow listen to your clamour and now have a female singer with them :) and it's really great, she gave them some kind of versatility that they lack in the vocal deparment.
Godflesh is a huge influence of these bands and also use that kind of vocals. I understand that you may not like it but I think that it fits the music perfectly, because of the continous and repetitive atmosphere that they manage to create. Anyway I agree that this is their less high point.
I can't describe with words how Culf of Luna makes me feel.

+Ludovic Rossier Bongripper is like Meshuggah in slow motion.

So true! I was there and had a mini-heart attack during this song!
This is fucking amazing

Obviously the music kicks ass, which is most important... but I gotta say... really great job, whoever did the lighting, too.
+Sartori not to forget the soundguy / whoever mixed it, sounds really baller!
Hell yeah, it does.
dystopian space opera intro! lovin' every fuckin' second of this live masterpiece!
I'd say CoL is one of the greatest "post" bands ever (no matter what you put behind post by the way, be it Metal, Core, Rock or anything else) They're coming to Paris in three weeks and believe you me I'll be there!

My heart can't take this!.... SUPERB!!!!
this band changed my ear.
I never noticed this until now, but the synthesizer track on "I: The Weapon" could easily fit into a Doom game soundtrack.

Amazing performance. Must have watched this a dozen times =)

Such an excellent tone live, it's unbelievably tight too. So beautifully mixed.
still one of the best gigs ever, thank you for uploading this
до сих пор не могу понять почему эти шедевры не очень популярны
по настоящему хорошую музыку слушают, как правило, маленькое количество людей. Массы любят другое
thanks for posting this!
saw them live in october and it was an amazing experience!
Je suis amoureuse. Encore et toujours. *-*
iVomitfulloffASSness - The 6th track is named Owlgod. Thanks.

Outstanding..!
(Problem on sound at the 1st song, like nothing happened of course ^^)
♥
Зачетная штука! А я раньше никогда не слышал(((
Play swedish metal - Dress like a 90's british indie band :D
No disrespect, it's metal as fuck to not dress "metal"!
I thought they had 2 drummers
They do, there must have been some sort of issue getting them both to this show, as the drummer in this video I have never seen before. Strange, I know...

dude #2 holds it down, impressively well, though!
:)
no cosplay - nice
lol, crowd can't clap in time (1:04:00ish)
Thought of them like the "metal" version of Radiohead.
man I was jamming til he started singing. dayuum y'all should just play the music
Still a better gig than taylor f***ing swift
Composition second only to Tool, IMO. Just wish they'd get a better singer, without such a monotone scream.

Isis and Neurosis have more dynamic range. Cult of Luna is very flat.
Godflesh is a huge influence of these bands and also use that kind of vocals. I understand that you may not like it but I think that it fits the music perfectly, because of the continous and repetitive atmosphere that they manage to create. Anyway I agree that this is their less high point.
Did you even read my statement? I do not dislike the style of vocals, I dislike how Cult of Luna delivers them.
Well the female singer is not part of the band officially, they did a record together but it was more a collaboration than being part of the band
