Taemin has spoken before how he regrets debuting so young in a very exploitative industry, that mixed with how hard his military enlistment period was for his mental health I see this being about him kinda losing his innocence and being thrown into violence. the shot of him looking at one of the dancers that kinda looks like a younger version of him having fun with everyone else to him being in this medical room and being moved like a puppet, forced to hold a gun and being stripped of his individuality by wearing this school uniform. That’s what I love about Taemin’s music and MV’s it starts to make you think and theorize, he’s super creative.
TAEMIN is the latest social media hot topic: Kpop controllers appropriating Taemin's 2-month-old title song GUILTY for a 4th gen HYBE golden boy. Now top child exploiters are punishing him in hyper specific manners: grabbed his anti-child-abuse song, got young idols to heighten the sexualized parts for viral benefits, made a BIG show of erasing Taemin's name from the HYBE golden boy's cover performance video title and official tweets… to make a LOUD public statement: "shut up Taemin, we own SM, we own you, we own the kids, we own your songs, your soul, and we can erase you faster than CCP erasing rebel rousers, watch us vampire your most beloved song and bleed your heart dry, then we own your tears too." Taemin has talked about the literature that inspired this concept: Erotism: Death and Sensuality by Georges Bataille and Demian by Hermann Hesse. Love that Taemin decided to do things his own way with his own colors. I don't see anyone else doing this concept, or even the way in which he does it. Just stunning! Great reaction, thanks for giving so much love to his work
This MV is one of the best I've ever seen, it's pure art and a masterpiece. Left me speechless. The performance, choreo, acting, dancers, emotions, outfits, hunting feeling.... This is absolutely insane.
Taemin is the king of soloists, we really had to wait for him to come back to witness real music and art. I would give an award to this song as everything... mv, vocals, dance. He is the best soloist ever. mark my words
For me this MV shows what happens when an artist like Taemin goes through depression and faces mental health issues. All I see in this video is the battle one can have with their own mind
Taemin has blown us away again. Thank god there’s an artist like him. I do remember that Taemin mentioned in an interview that the concept was based on the book he read by G. Bataille, L’erostisme in which he believes that eroticism is “a psychological quest not unlike death.” I’m still puzzled by this, so I haven’t been able to decipher Taemin’s idea. As usual Taemin’s interest in philosophy and combining it into his mvs is always confusing to me. Maybe you’ll have better insights. I’ve also seen commenters refer this mv to his experience in the military. In any case, Taemin has given us an amazing song, vocals, dancing and visuals in this mv. He never disappoints us.
ok the director of the mv clarified it a lil saying the mv decipts two versions of taemin, the one who is controlled and the one who can't be controlled and taemin later mentioned in an interview how showing negative thing in a beautiful way is art itself so this is most likely how exploited he felt by the k industry
Thanks for fast react. I’ve been feeling Taemin’s performance and choice of title songs always lean towards a ’cultish’ feel. In a lot of choreography sequences feel like religious ritual, and the imagery and music feels disorienting and hypnotic. In ‘Guilty’ he’s like either a cult leader or a human sacrifice. I just dig this so much! ❤❤❤
@@subtitlessavemylife LOL you forgot to include the title of the explainer video! It's Taemin Guilty MV Explained. It's 100% top quality analysis, shows a different Taemin, worth the watch!
Quite a few of Taemin's title tracks have the 'this love is a crime/forbidden/dangerous' message (Guilty, Want, Danger, Criminal). It's definitely a theme he likes coming back to again and again

I think his teasers are good for understanding whole story in MV. I watched the first MV a then teasers and a lot more things I found out because of them.
Taemin is an artist that keeps surprising us despite all of the unique concepts he’s already given us. This comeback was heavily anticipated as his solo return after his enlistment, and its safe to say he didn’t disappoint. Also yes, a lot of people have interpreted the message of this song as his experience being in the military hence the reason why he’s in an institution of some sort,(he did not have a good experience to say the least and some of the scenes in this MV can be related in some way to what happened to him in real life).
The way i was GAGGED this whole mv is crazy!! Like literally jaw on the floor, goosebumps everywhere and no words left to say. The king is back and i am so happy omg what a masterpiece!
I've seen enough Taemin content to know he is a workaholic. Being onstage is his happy place so when he left for his military service I did worry it would be too much time away from what he loves. So hearing he had to finish his service outside of barracks because he was having anxiety attacks was exactly what I was afraid of. I think this MV is about what he felt trapped in the military. Maybe this song reminded him of what he felt or maybe this MV is a way of expressing what he went through.
The song is in sync with the mv. Open your mind a bit more the torments trainees have to go and how they push them more and more by feeling not good enough, always not being able to satisfy their "teachers". And when they do, all this pain becomes pleasure so they start to equate them. The poisoned apple is not red, is the expectation of money and fame. Once they bite it they are hooked. Once he is controlled, he repeats the words of his trainers, the tricks they use, mental and physical. And we can take a glimpse of what he had to go through at their hands at the part where there is no singing. Was he able to accept all that he's been through? Yes, because now he is rich and famous. But still some things come back to him and for a while he loose himself as we saw him in the end.
Did you watch the MV trailer? It connects really well and expands on what's on the MV. I think it would make a bit more sense if you watch it! Taemin's work is always an experience, you can't just sit and listen absentmindedly. Soooo good!!
It's not all boys. But the haircuts are boyish, I guess. I think it's on purpose. Taemin said in the press conference, "I wanted the music video to tell a story. In it, I am a young boy who lives under control in a shelter. The supervisors in that shelter forced me to hurt my friends. This makes me revolt and become the alpha man."
This song and MV is a masterpiece! And by the way, Riize has a new MV out as well called Talk saxy. Waiting for you both to react to it, it's quite different than what you have heard and seen from the boys so far. Looking forward to it. ❤
I loved this MV and I felt what you said at 8:26. I actually think the song itself is something separate from the music video. My theory is that the MV is the physical representation of his time in the military. I remember reading that he had some severe anxiety I believe part way through his time and I feel this is a display of the feelings he had there. There was moments of initial jubilation which then turned into feeling controlled, closeted, suffocated, pressured . Wanting help and being too scared to ask. That was what I got from watching him perform this masterpiece. I am so glad he is back with us. Long Live The King.
Very good music video. Teamin always impresses with his dancing and vocals🥰Thank you for your reactions. 🤩Have you seen Soojin❤🔥 comeback yet? I'm very curious about your reaction.
He and all SHINee members re-signed their contracts with SM. And then he drops this. Destroying and exposing the industry from the inside out but most kpop fans are too caught up in streaming and award wars and caring about dating “scandals” and other small things to see things for how they are. This man deserves so much better.
Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Good song. On 1st listen I felt strongly like crying. The tears were held in though the whole song though. But at the end i had to wipe my eyes. I just want to hug Taemin. On my 2nd listen i read the lyrics. And after i wondered was my reaction all in my head. There are layers here upon layers. Loved the fits and makeup. Some of the subject matter was an issue for me. I know Taemin had lots of mental health issues in the military. Based on the teasers I thought he would talk about it. And it looks like he does in his own way. I really want to hear his views on this song and album. I watched Suchwita ep. w. Taemin right after this. Glad he is back giving us headaches, lol. Perfect vocals in my opinion. The feathered headband is a Native American thing for me. I feel it has an important significance. The lyrics had nothing to do with the images in the MV. I think this is way over my head and i will watch some reactions to see what others think of Taemin's msg here. Feels based on imagery. Great choreo. Need the dance practice ASAP. =0p Borahae. -NY USA 2019 Army💟 Loved that long skirt. He looked so good, dang. I also was getting examination. After a few reactions i am thinking he is showing military and psych mental health area. Like a mix of places. I was thinking were ppl saying he was guilty of making them feel attracted to him? Does he feel guilty about something? Lots of thoughts going through my head. I am so glad u watched the teasers. The more i watch the more i think that he is combining the military facility with a mental health facility. And we know he suffered in the military and asked for a transfer. So it seems he is portraying his struggles here. @ireneserrano4570 said on 10/30/23 I'm still confused about the exact meaning, but again, there could be different interpretations as with his other songs. But from the visuals i get the feeling it refers to abuse, it can be at so many levels. It can have psychological and physical or both, you can suffer it under your own family, friends, at school, at work, in love relationships... Then who is the perpetrator? many times you can be trapped by those people, even in a group or the society, you don't even realise but by the time you realise you have been actually abused THEY are gone, who can you blame exactly? I have gone through my own dose of abuse, and after years you realise but you end up blaming yourself too, as if you hadn't known better but then you allowed it...😢 Also the images of classroom and rooms with beds, and a kid surrounded by a group...Taemin is watching him from the door as if he was watching himself as a kid... also at the end those kids in school uniforms, all spread around, one grabbing the legs of an adult that grabs his leg, bleeding... South Korea also has buIIying as endemic.. at schools (kids also teachers committing suicide as they can't either find understanding or help by their surroundings, on the contrary they are treated as the outcast and weirdos) also at the workplace, in the Military, in university... Their social rules, their stratification and obsession with seniority, comparing their ages, wealth, possessions, their marks, everything... the social pressure on kids and in general on everyone to be better, the most xx the most xx...). The crazy mix of their traditional values and the contrast to the monstruos capitalism that devours all traditional values... traditional collectivism versus wild individualism... @pamela-623 said on 10/30/23 this is an amazing comeback, so artsy so taemin, shawols had lots of interesting theories, my favorite being that this is an interpretation of the struggles in military enlistment, young men being taken, examined and given a gun, i find it so fascinating @princesssunshine79 said on 10/31/23 From what I have picked up here and there, I THINK, don't quote me, the song is about training at an extremely young age in a very exploitive industry, his horrible experience while doing his military service, and his own mental health. Again, I am not positive about any of this. But, for Taemin, it makes a lot of sense. Especially the last two bits because his 2 years away was a nightmare that really messed with his mental health and depression. I hope this helps a wee bit. 😁 @sumim2192 said on 11/1/23 Just a note, In July (I think), Taemin updated his Instagram bio with a famous quote from Hermann Hesse's famous novel Demian “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas.” I think his outfit with the feather hat represents the god Abraxas. @prisonbreakd said on 10/31/23 The way he does dark concepts is so amazing to me. I think if you think about how guilt feels, the video/song represents it perfectly. The way he moves through the corridors and outside, and the choreography feels like he is out of control, and being suffocated by the situation, he is overwhelmed and struggling to understand up from down, invisible and visible hands push him around. You can't help but feel sad or sorry for him, despite him singing that he's done something horrible. And I think it's because, unlike in "Want", he is not proud or embracing it here; his pain, struggle and guilt are obvious. It's haunting. To me, the overall story of the video was that love (and life) is not always cutesy and sweet; it can come with a dark side, conflicting feelings, being intense and too much. You can do things you regret, and it can spin out of control, you can be aware of doing something wrong and not know how to stop, you can want things that are not good for you or someone that you care about. You can hurt people and be aware of what you are doing but not know how to do it better. You can love the wrong people, make mistakes and feel... well, guilty. It's just a very painful side of human experience that we don't like to look at because guilt and shame go together and make us very uneasy. @pandakholin said on 10/31/23 9:55 Yep. Rian, Simeez, Noze and Rozalin. They’ve been Taemin’s backup dancers since Criminal. Also here is Suzy Hong and Kim Haeun. Only the best of the best for Taemin.
I guess it could be about the mental repercussions of being in the military and living your everyday life as a tool for a fight between governments in which you have no voice, spending all your time and energy learning the most efficient ways to kill people you do not use. nor do I want to hurt (could the phrase "loving you is a crime" be about having empathy and compassion for the "opposite side" in the war) and the loss of childhood and innocence it would cause. We see Taemin looking very anxious while holding the gun at target practice and even taking it out on himself through self-harm (because of guilt??) he (or someone else I can't say) then sets the target on fire at 5 :20, possibly as a rebel?? Throughout the MV there is also a theme of everyone being in uniform or boring clothes, so this is juxtaposed with super expressive outfits like Taemin in a skirt which could be a commentary on how the military steals your self-expression and sense of identity, since you have to wear a uniform, shave your head and follow orders. The first scene is quite indicative of both the loss of childhood (children's photos drawn on the wall) and the loss of self, as Taemin is sitting in a room full of colorful clothes while wearing a very simple outfit. This is just my theory, I have no intention of speaking for Taemin, especially when an anti-military concept would be very controversial and would result in a lot of hate for him. That hurt expression is unforgettable. It's a strong shock and stimulus. Taemin was the first K-pop artist I was exposed to (and became obsessed with) and he became my first prejudice (now ult) for exactly this reason. Always with you, Taemin. 🫰😍
I think the music video is about losing your innocence in childhood. It shows young boys being raised in a military institution preparing them for war. It's meant to be a parallel to Taemin's own mental struggles in the military and also debuting at a really young age (14) and never got to be a regular kid. The death scene could be about Jonghyun, maybe he has survivor's guilt. Lots to unpack here, as is the case with Taemin's MVs lol. Love it nonetheless, have to watch it again
I read somewhere that he sings from the POV of the abuser but dances from the POV of the abused. (This was written far more eloquently than this; I'm paraphrasing). Anyway, that helped me to understand the entirety of the video and song better. Whether or not it's factual, I can't say for sure.
Taemin struggled a lot in the military, he had to change army unit he was in his depression got worse, and when this information got out into the public, many korean men were upset saying "why are all the idols LOVE to fake their depression? Yes military is hard, we've all been through, get over it, military makes you depressed in general, I don't like how they get special treatment because they're idols" But then some of the people who was with Taemin in the military had to step out and say, "No Taemin is not faking it, he is truley a caring person, , I saw him taking pills and sometimes couldn't sleep, he tried so hard to stay in this unit, please stop the hate towards him"
Lyrics is about a toxic relationship. It’s bad but you’re too obsessed to leave him, he knows it’s toxic but he knows you’re too obsessed to leave him/once you realize it’s a toxic relationship, you’re already trapped(cheating?)
I think it could be about the mental repercussions of being in the military and living your everyday life as a tool for a fight between governments that you have no say in, spending all your time and energy learning the most efficient ways to kill people you don't even want to hurt (could the "loving you's a crime" line be about having empathy and compassion for the "opposing side" in war) and the loss of childhood and innocence that would cause. We see Taemin looking very anxious while holding the gun at target practice and even taking it out on himself through self harm (from the guilt??) he (or someone else i cant tell) then lights the target on fire at 5:20 possibly as a rebel?? Throughout the MV there's also a theme of everyone being in uniforms or bland clothing then that's juxtaposed with super expressive clothes like Taemin in a skirt which could be a comment on how the military steals your self expression and sense of self as you have to wear a uniform, shave your head and follow orders. The first shot is pretty indictive of both the loss of childhood (childish pictures drawn on the wall) and loss of self as Taemin is sitting in a room full of colorful clothes while wearing a very plain outfit. This is just my theory though, I have no intent of speaking for Taemin especially when an anti military concept would be very controversial and result in a lot of hate towards him.
Not going to lie I didn't like it on the first listen minus the high note but I re-watched it again and I fell in love with it. I don't want to speculate but I wonder if the song is about falling in love with someone in the military and him feeling GUILTY or having someone from the military fall in love with him. (poison apple)= "Sin" "LOVE IS A CRIME" "Just playing a game for fun hundreds of lies." "When you have caught on I'm already gone" It's very suggestive it kind of aligns with the military theme in the storyline of teasers. This is my first comeback from Taemin and he did not disappoint a visual performance masterpiece.
On his episode on Suga show he said that this song & idea were made around the same tine & it was an option for the title track then so your comparison to idea is not far off
i said it years ago, ill say it now,,,, then storm is coming... taemin is back. take no prisioners,,, no mercy.... all k pop groups you had 2m years to get it right,,,,TIMES UP,,,
You would have to view the trailers which gave the back story. Plausible that trauma influnced how he loves... the current stories takes us to a place of toxic love that is is abusive ( physically and mentally) there is ritualistic aspect that brings in the sinister piece/ worshiping aspect due to some kind of brainwashing * implanted* illusions; he comes out of it but has to go through a * cord cutting process*
there's been an ongoing joke, at least among the queer fans that there's a legion of queer women behind taemin. he's just so beautiful and genderless and his voice is like satin. he's the queer favorite.
There’s a double meaning there, it’s about being in love and feeling guilty about maybe what he’s done in a relationship. But the other meaning is about how he became famous at such a young age, and couldn’t control his own image or destiny. In the video the forbidden love is a girl but everything is presented very androgynously. If there was queer themes he’s not allowed to state them explicitly. That would get him banned from many Korean venues and probably in big trouble with his label as they want money. I think this is slowly changing as more young people in Korea are supportive of LGBTQ and fed up with the status quo. But gay marriage isn’t even legal there. There’s a lot between shinee members that people joke about as being gay but some of them feel so obvious. This is Jonghyun writing view about Taemin and other interactions. I know internet wat was fan service but you can’t tell me they didn’t enjoy it. Obviously I can’t know what has or hasn’t happened, and it would be wrong for me to outfight assume given as the situation is, but I do sometimes wonder if they had something going on. Either way I think Taemin is queer in some way. My gaydar is off the charts. So forbidden love in that sense could be a theme.
So hearing he had to finish his service outside of barracks because he was having anxiety attacks was exactly what I was afraid of. I think this MV is about what he felt trapped in the military. Maybe this song reminded him of what he felt or maybe this MV is a way of expressing what he went through.
Great
The song is in sync with the mv. But still some things come back to him and for a while he loose himself as we saw him in the end.
speechless yep exactly i know what you two feels
Taemin is just spectacular. The way he moves and sings... its just wow
Taemin is on another level
Honestly I love this more raw and adult release from a kpop artist
Best reaction I’ve seen. You both so got it. Thanks for not pausing and talking all the way through it. I was as in awe as you. I cried. Subscribed
I have the impression that the army left its mark on Him.
Did you watch the MV trailer? It connects really well and expands on what's on the MV. I think it would make a bit more sense if you watch it! Taemin's work is always an experience, you can't just sit and listen absentmindedly. Soooo good!!
아 너무 내 반응이랑 똑같아서 빡빡 웃는중 정말 말이 안나오는 아트 그 자체 태민...그저 빛...사랑합니다...💎💎💎💎💎
U must more reaction Taemin :D Want,Criminal,Advice :)
he is ART
Taemin is art!
Finally, Taemin on your channel! I'm very glad because I love your reactions! Thank you for this. Are you going to react to Taemin's Killing Voice?
you guys should definitely react to some shinee, taemin's group! especially their live performances
boarding school/military/cult imagery fs, taemin is such an incredible artist
It's not all boys. But the haircuts are boyish, I guess. I think it's on purpose. Taemin said in the press conference, "I wanted the music video to tell a story. In it, I am a young boy who lives under control in a shelter. The supervisors in that shelter forced me to hurt my friends. This makes me revolt and become the alpha man."
그런말 한적 없음. 번역 오류
@by_7948 I got this through Twitter. If this is incorrect, what was the correct translation?
Art, Art, Art, pure Art
This song and MV is a masterpiece! And by the way, Riize has a new MV out as well called Talk saxy. Waiting for you both to react to it, it's quite different than what you have heard and seen from the boys so far. Looking forward to it. ❤
Every MV adds to my Taemin "fallen angel/Lucifer" theory 👀
7:53 Actually there are mixed boys and girls together.)))
king of kpop
Taemin💯💖
I loved this MV and I felt what you said at 8:26. I actually think the song itself is something separate from the music video. My theory is that the MV is the physical representation of his time in the military. I remember reading that he had some severe anxiety I believe part way through his time and I feel this is a display of the feelings he had there. There was moments of initial jubilation which then turned into feeling controlled, closeted, suffocated, pressured . Wanting help and being too scared to ask. That was what I got from watching him perform this masterpiece. I am so glad he is back with us. Long Live The King.
I suggest you watch the teasers as it shows a lot of stuff and maybe it helps you understand the story of this MV.
テミナ💓
Very good music video. Teamin always impresses with his dancing and vocals🥰Thank you for your reactions. 🤩Have you seen Soojin❤🔥 comeback yet? I'm very curious about your reaction.
wow
More Taemin pleaseeee
He and all SHINee members re-signed their contracts with SM.
And then he drops this.
Destroying and exposing the industry from the inside out but most kpop fans are too caught up in streaming and award wars and caring about dating “scandals” and other small things to see things for how they are.
This man deserves so much better.
He uploaded a dance challenge tiktok with karina today
-NY USA 2019 Army💟
Loved that long skirt.

I'm still confused about the exact meaning, but again, there could be different interpretations as with his other songs. The crazy mix of their traditional values and the contrast to the monstruos capitalism that devours all traditional values... traditional collectivism versus wild individualism...

this is an amazing comeback, so artsy so taemin, shawols had lots of interesting theories, my favorite being that this is an interpretation of the struggles in military enlistment, young men being taken, examined and given a gun, i find it so fascinating

From what I have picked up here and there, I THINK, don't quote me, the song is about training at an extremely young age in a very exploitive industry, his horrible experience while doing his military service, and his own mental health. Again, I am not positive about any of this. But, for Taemin, it makes a lot of sense. Especially the last two bits because his 2 years away was a nightmare that really messed with his mental health and depression. I hope this helps a wee bit. 😁

Just a note, In July (I think), Taemin updated his Instagram bio with a famous quote from Hermann Hesse's famous novel Demian “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas.” I think his outfit with the feather hat represents the god Abraxas.

The way he does dark concepts is so amazing to me.

9:55 Yep.
He is so dang cool in every way! Oh by the way you should react to Soojins new teaser for her comeback it’s called Black Forest.. it’s like amazing.
I read somewhere that he sings from the POV of the abuser but dances from the POV of the abused. (This was written far more eloquently than this; I'm paraphrasing). Anyway, that helped me to understand the entirety of the video and song better. Whether or not it's factual, I can't say for sure.
Taemin struggled a lot in the military, he had to change army unit he was in
his depression got worse, and when this information got out into the public, many korean men were upset saying "why are all the idols LOVE to fake their depression? Yes military is hard, we've all been through, get over it, military makes you depressed in general, I don't like how they get special treatment because they're idols"
But then some of the people who was with Taemin in the military had to step out and say, "No Taemin is not faking it, he is truley a caring person, , I saw him taking pills and sometimes couldn't sleep, he tried so hard to stay in this unit, please stop the hate towards him"
Lyrics is about a toxic relationship. It’s bad but you’re too obsessed to leave him, he knows it’s toxic but he knows you’re too obsessed to leave him/once you realize it’s a toxic relationship, you’re already trapped(cheating?)
You need to watch every teaser video to understand the whole storyline...
This is just my theory though, I have no intent of speaking for Taemin especially when an anti military concept would be very controversial and result in a lot of hate towards him.
It's also about how he was groomed and sexualized as a young teen idol
❤️❤️❤️
🖤
On his episode on Suga show he said that this song & idea were made around the same tine & it was an option for the title track then so your comparison to idea is not far off
i said it years ago, ill say it now,,,, then storm is coming... taemin is back. take no prisioners,,, no mercy.... all k pop groups you had 2m years to get it right,,,,TIMES UP,,,
I'm G-U-I-L-T-Y
Could you please react to the dance practice please ?
The lyrics are pretty explanatory, but I think the visuals distracted your reading them, thus your confusion. 😂
😊❤
taemin doesn't make music, he makes works of art. there's nobody doing it like him, he's on a whole different level.
He's outdone himself again
I know it’s probably not true but this mv screams conversion therapy to me.
there's been an ongoing joke, at least among the queer fans that there's a legion of queer women behind taemin. he's just so beautiful and genderless and his voice is like satin. he's the queer favorite.
React pls to Heartsteel - Paranoia :)
This MV is so so sad, the MV is partly about how he was groomed and sexualized as a teen being in the kpop idol industry.
If you love this boy,you should try to SHINee MV.
