- Scott Toy Guru Neitlich continues his figure by figure reviews as part of the Director's Commentary series. Snout Spout, the robotic elephant headed firefighter from the Masters of the Universe is in the spotlight. Discussions of his trunk, it's breakage, the included sticker sheet and the announcement of a new Create-a-figure contest! It is all hear. Water squirting featuring not included.
peanut butter and CHOCOLATE! how'd you miss that
Of course! That hat goes on the head. It's all so simple now
@@spectorcreative1872 Banana (Elivis Presley), onion (Fred Savage in Little Monsters), peanut butter and honey is quite popular as well.
I like peanut butter and pretzels.
Snout Spout was visually cool me. The orange didn’t bother me cause I just assumed it was his it was his firefighter uniform.
It is!
Snout Spout never forgets.
good one.
No. No he does not
Peanut butter and marshmallow for the win. I've been trying just to comment on anything to help the algorithm get your videos out there more. The best toy channel on youtube
I have been afraid of Marshmallow ever since the Ghostbuster movie.
I was out of MOTU collecting when Snout Spout was released, but i had a dream about playing with it, and since then i always wanted one! The 200X design is awesome. Great video.
So glad we got to that 200X head for Classics! Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to watch and comment
Awesome video on Mr.HoseNose! I am really looking forward to the Spector video and CG!
That is around the corner...
don't remember him from 200x, but still got the figure, definitely stands out on the shelf..nice back story,
He was only a staction in 200X
I'd like to see Snoutspout and Cobra Khan as a deluxe wave together for Origins.
I had the MOTUC, but that foamy trunk felt fragile and kinda scared me.
Make it happen Mattel!
I like how you worded that its for everybody. Crazy this video came out when news is breaking of Disney- banning Dumbo. Strange tales. I did just recently get myself a vintage Snout Spout. Never had one until now
Wait.. Dumbo is now banned? Man my child hood is gone
@@spectorcreative1872 I still have my physical copies of everything I like. You are always more than welcome to anything I have. I am game for product testing also. Son and a daughter, niece and nephew, ages 2-9 if you need opinions on anything.
@@spectorcreative1872 Doesn't make sense since when the platform started I had to complain to get The Proud Family series put on. Preach diversity then do the opposite
He has a SpaceX logo belt buckle
That is where they got it from
Figures that were canceled because of being too something? Also why female typically don't get a figure or get one later?
Here is the scoop on female figures: ua-cam.com/video/2yo3ZSXXdBc/v-deo.html
Wasn't Kobra Khan's spit supposed to come out as mist? I always thought that was intentional.
Yes, for safety reasons
@@spectorcreative1872 How is that safer? (I don't doubt that it is, I just can't follow the specific reasoning).
It sounds almost like Mattel didn’t do enough quality assurance before releasing and then asked you to pay more for a ramification for a problem that wasn’t your fault in the first place. That’s disappointing and unprofessional.
I was just glad Mattel let me make this toys at all. It was a passion project and not my main job
I seem to remember that in the She-Ra cartoon, he had the name "Hose Nose" rather than " Snout Spout". It's possible that another character jokingly called him that, and that's what I'm remembering.
That was one of his prototype names, I think. Filmation used it before the name was finalised as Snout Spout.
Yup that was the first nam they tried out
Peanut butter without mention of bananas and/or chocolate? Flummory, sir.
Guilty as charged
Lol peanut butter and chocolate??? Omg haha as a European that sounds crazy to me
Chocolate goes with peanut butter
Of course!
Snoutspout was awesome like i said on another video of yours. I really like his Rival/buddy with Rio Blast. I always thought his head was because of his race... But now realising that his original face was human. The thought of having a robot elephant head is true horror 😂
What an origin!
Snout spout was so cool. Stupid neighbor kid ripped the nose. I kept him as a henchman after that. What even would his name be at that point? I had just turned 6 and I remember this is something that perplexed me... For way too long a period, so generic henchman it was. Beloved? Yes, i genuinely missed having a non broken one.
Bring that neighbor kid to the slime pit for reeducation!
I vividly remember seeing Snout Spout in the stores as a kid, around the time a had started to grow out of He-Man. Honestly, Snout Spout was the last nail in the coffin for me, as Snout Spout had to be the worst character of all time in MOTU, after Orko obviously. The line had started to offer more and more characters that were terrible, and I just gave up hope the line would go in the direction i though it should, ie develop more around the core characters, and instead it was intent on offering anything and everything just to sell more toys. That is, it seemed the standards for characters had fallen so low, that I just wrote off the series entirely until just a few years ago. So, Snout Spout will always hold this place for me, in that he was the "last straw." I felt used by corporates who werent looking out for fans.
I always use snout spout as the example of too far
This is a great addition to the Classics line, and I felt the inclusion of his alt head in the 2015 heads pack was an excellent show of good faith combined with answering fan demand.
Glad the work to get that head out was appreciated!
Little off topic, but I am starting to be concerned about the Origins line. Secondary characters are still very hard to find but we are seeing He-Man and Skeletor in huge numbers by us too. They needed the new shows to be running before producing so many of these 2 characters.
Well lets hope kids get into the line. That is the key to success
Peanut butter and chocolate 😎
Now that is the ticket!
I love you how you threw Mighty Spektor in there mate haha
You’re a legend 👍
I aim to please
I legitimately don't mind Spektor's existence in the line (and considering what the creator-designed sub-line was, I'm really lad Scott got to make his character). He's just not my favorite visual design, but everybody's tastes can vary.
@@johnmorey720 completely agree mate
Classic Snout Spout was another figure that was doomed to fail right out if the gate. Too many fans had seen the 200X staction which was bad assery personified.
Classic Snout Spout was received with a resounding thud outside of the ever uncritical reviewers who received free samples.
At least we got the 200X head.
I always liked Snout Spout and I always liked the vintage figure, but I never would have taken it over the 200X design
I would have liked a mini-comic head with thinner trunk and goggle like eyes.
A fully articulated trunk with spray attatchments would have been awesome instead of a straight vintage head or no alt head.
Well since our goal was to do EVERY vintage figure this was inevitable
@@spectorcreative1872
Yeah. And that approach got a lot of pushback. Then and now.
Snout Spout was always a niche character with only the 200x version being truly liked.
I think the classics version would have benefitted from a minicomics head and spray attatchments.
I just vehemently disagree walking into a situation where you already know a significant portion of your customers are going to hate the product and give you bad feedback.
Vintage Snout Spout was always one of the least popular figures (I always loved him but I recognize most didn't).
Again, classic could never escape 200X. Not embracing some of the cooler designs right out if the gate was a mistake.
I think Mattel's new Origins line is going to fail to catch on due to not updating the characters a bit more.
One of Dumbo's acts was themed around firefighter clowns.
I heard he is banned now
I'd love to see you start a series, discussing every MOTU/POP/NA story ever written: mini-comics, cartoon episodes, comic books, picture books, movies, audio stories, etc. Individual videos for each story would be amazing, but even grouped together into sets, I'd love even a comprehensive discussion of every single piece of MOTU story material that's ever been produced. I think few people have as much insight into the depth of the mythology(ies) as you do.
Well if this channel goes long enough it is possible
I wonder how many of the children who loved firetrucks and firefighter toys ended up becoming firefighters? I'm thinking next to zero; you have to possess serious character to do that kind of work.
Scotts has never had a Reese Cup!!!!!!!
What's a Reese Cup?
Can you do Modulok next please? Surely there must've been some interesting design challenges with him.
Furthermore : Peanut butter, Chocolate sprinkles & some sort of caramel based spread makes a "Snicker sandwich" Bit high on sugar but hey it's not asif you're running a healthy food channel or something.
I am going in figure release order so Modulok will come up in time!
i LOVE how Modulok solved the swappable limb problem without damaging the joints. A! in my book - basically Modulok and Glyos are the only lines I've seen to handle it flawlessly.
(For fun, look up Socket Poppers - those figures tended to break when you swapped their limbs, which was their entire play feature!)
@@spectorcreative1872 Huzzah, will wait for it then.
@@johnmorey720 I had Multi-Bot as a child even though I only figured out later he was one of Hordak's creations and do believe you're right in the whole "Swapable limb" department.
Since I also had the Transformers G1 Seacons which former Piranacon if you joined them up, however you wouldn't want to have it do anything outside of standing since it's joints were flimsy which didn't really make sense to me even as a child.
One of my friends at the time had the Technobots which formed up to form Computron and broke off one of his arms to his horror when we had them "Fight"
Snout Spout was one of my favorites in MOTU
He has his fans!
Peanut butter and fried bananas?
Oh yeah! Oh course
He also appeared in the Christmas special. Putting up some decorations in the palace.
Star on the Tree
Great timing. The MOTUC Snout Spout I ordered a few weeks ago arrived overnight and was waiting at my desk this morning.
Well it was all meant for you!
Oh man, Snout Spout...
You know, the foam was a decent experiment. In theory, it looked like a great idea... but it became a massive failure when both Snout Spout and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man began to rot. Such a pity. In retrospect it's hilarious, though I remember people were SO ANGRY back in the day.
-Stickers are one of my toy pet peeves. You need surgeon's hands to apply them correctly, and they eventually peal and wear off. I very much dislike stickers.
Well stickers did attack my village as a child
What a cool video for a quirky & underrated character! I liked him as both a child & now. When I bought a lot of vintage MOTU figures he was hiding in the bag w/ his axe! Fun side fact: The firefighter Transformer G1 character, Inferno, has in some media (don't recall where other then a prose story) been presented as having a beast mode as an elephant. As always Scott your videos are hot! :)
Any Elephant Robot is good with me!
😳 did not know his weapon held his nose! and I've got the vintage one👍
Whoever designed Snout Spout had to have been thinking of Ganesha based on the early version having a third eye and the backstory. Ganesha's origin was that he was the son of Shiva and Parvati, and like most Hindu divinities, looked human. Once Parvati asked him to stand guard while she was bathing and not allow anyone admittance. Shiva tried to come see her, and Ganesha refused, so he decapitated him, unable to put his original head back on, he put on the head of a passing elephant (I'm not Hindu; I don't understand this) and brought his son back to life with it.
I suspect Joe Morrison or John Weems came up with this during their tenure at Mattel. They put Ganesha in the Monster in My Pocket line and has a lot of offended Hindus in Britain come after them. So many people whether Hindu or not love Ganesha, so it's hard to say with absolute certainty that it was one of these two..
I remember seeing "Hose Nose" on She-Ra. I think he cleaned Horde slime off She-Ra. He cleaned something off She-Ra. I immediately wanted the figure. Later, Snout Spout appeared in an episode of She-Ra, with Adora saying he was He-Man's new friend. That makes it sound like two different characters (or at minimum a changed backstory) that they were hoping kids didn't notice.
Kobra Khan's misting is what made me want the figure, which I'm pretty sure I bought after Snout Spout. I don't think he came in Snake Men packaging despite the timing. I was never a fan of snake characters but always liked elephants. I did have Tung Lashor and Rattlor and may have had King Hiss. I do remember playing with King Hiss. I never got Squeeeeeze, and Snake Face creeped me out too much. I was the kid other kids tormented with rubber snakes. This kid Scotty Armstrong promised to leave me alone if I touched the tail, so I did, and he kept his word. Later on he went to the prom with this girl I liked. She ended up getting married to a Woodstock-era hippie.
I wish we could have done action features in classics. Giving Kobra Kahn mist would have been awesome.
I hope Origins lasts long enough to eventually get to Snout Spout. He was one of the few figures I had as a kid, since I was born in 1987 and only had a couple of hand-me-downs growing up (which I mostly used as new allies for my Ninja Turtles figures).
Lets hope kids get into the line!
The shooting water gimmick was popular back then, so I'm not surprised this figure came about. I like having him be part of the fire fighters. Makes it less "what were they thinking?" I remember Snout Spout most as the guy who puts the star on the tree in the He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special. Probably because I watch it every year. lol
Oh I remember that scene too!
I never liked snout spout. He was to goofy. I like weird, but goofy-weird not so much. The sad elephant look also didn't scream heroic to me...
As noted in t my opening ramble
I don't think I ever remember seeing this one on sale back in the day. If I had I don't think I would have been interested... and that's weird because I remember really liking elephants such as Elaroo from Wuzzles.
I love the Wuzzles!
Was this character not also the product of a create-a-character contest? There was a He-Man magazine briefly during the original run, and I distinctly recall a create-a-character contest running in the magazine. I'm not as strongly certain that this character (Hose Nose, as he was briefly called at the time) was the winning design, but I'm reasonably sure I remember that as well. Have not found any record of it since then, though, and I no longer have the magazines.
He was not part of the Create A Character contest, just promoted it. I'll have a video on the vintage and modern contest coming soon~!
I much prefer the 200x head. The original is just a bit too goofy looking.
I can't disagree
I have him and said if I ever open him, I just won't articulate the trunk. I do have the Eternian Heads as back up though.
A good back up to have
I am entirely serious in this question: was this ever sold in India? Because it seems like it could be repainted as a Ganesh action figure; i.e., one of the primary Hindu deities.
Yes, it was available in India. These figures were sold online and shipped worldwide to 93 countries.
I like snout spout , he seems underrated by most people. He looks good in classics, just worried about the material his snout is made of, what material was used?
Same as the shorts. A thinner rubber
Why did Snout Spout get to be the one firefighter who got to spray water through an elephant trunk? Why, because he's a horrifying freak of nature!
He is a victim of Hordak's Experimentation matrix.
It feels like the idea of an elephant fire fighter was probably borrowed from the Flintstones at some point. I still remember the original working better than most of the water guns I got as a kid.
Everything comes from the Flintstones
Peanut butter and BACON! Put it on bread or with a burger. Thank me later :-)
Bacon! Of course. It is all so simple now
maybe i recall it wrong but was snout spout not also a "create a character" winner back in the vintage line???btw great video as always
Yes, I'll be getting to a video about that shortly!
I was thinking with your access to a huge MOTU Classics Archive you could make a Website that has a scan of every HE-MAN Classics Figure allowing the User the ability not only to cycle through a detailed photo of each Action Figure but also the ability to cycle through each part of the figure (example:Arms, legs, head etc.) allowing a Fan/Collector the ability to create New Figures or Improve on Existing Designs like maybe making a better Prince Adam by changing his Hands out with a different Action Figures Hands from the same Toy Line or maybe making a Figure that never got a release by using drawings or sketches from early designs along with the Websites Library of many different parts from the Classics Line to find the best possible parts from each figure to make that particular Character. Keep up the Great Work!
Well I can't personally do that, but Mattel sure could. Write them a physical letter and let them know you would like this.
@@spectorcreative1872 lol I can't remember the last time I wrote a actual letter, I bet the guy in the mail room would freak out lol you know I think we have a new Character, Eternia needs a Mailman or Mailwoman.
Now that you brought it up… can you do a video on the top 10 best selling toys of all time? Or did you do that already
Well it's prob Barbie, Hot Wheels Marbles, Hula Hoops, toy firetrucks and balls. But I'll see what I can do!
My Classics Snout Spout is still sitting pretty in his sealed blister. No plans to open it since the elephant trunk has issues. He is a beautiful figure
Well the trunk does mot always break. Mine is still fine
nice video today Scott. I got the heads of eternia pack before any of the figures in motuc hah. if you had to pick a fig get first from the head pak now what would you personally choose?
I stared late in the vintage line (summer 86, was 2 and a half lol) and some of my first real foggy memories are of figures that seemed to be more sought-after... I really appreciate all of the information you provide but I think you know that... thanks
signed jabroni skeletor
Glad you liked the figure and the video! Thanks for taking the time to comment too
Have never been a He-Man fan but I'm enjoying watching these videos, learning the process action figures go through from concept to shelf.
Well thrilled to know! I am also now doing the same type of series for Star Wars (as well as the Dc toys I did at Mattel)
It goes to show you the difference that a single accessory can make! Snout Spout had originally been on my skip list. I had zero interest in owning that figure UNTIL I saw the first pics of the Heads of Eternia pack. With the new noggin, he's now one of my favorites! What an amazing transformation from a relatively bland figure to a badass one!
And that is why we did that pack!
Enjoy he-man vids thx
Most welcome. Many more on this channel, feel free to explore
Your last line... I know it’s a Milhouse reference, but what was the original phrase?
If I was quoting Milhouse it was unintentional this time!
5:18...Roboto and Sy-Klone are mixed up. Lol.
Clearly.
Who was cooler? Snout or Tuskador (NA) ... ?
Snout Spout. He is an elephant robot
They been making Wwe masters of the Universe figs and i gotta say that Snout Spout would be a perfect base for the Mastadon Vader!!!!
Make it happen Mattel!
@@spectorcreative1872 speaking of that line they need to make another Snake man in the Viper Randy Orton and tho they already did a Fiend Trap Jaw, I think Hordack would have been a better base for the Fiend...however Ryback would make a great Trap Jaw
Hindu god gabesh is supposed to be orange red...He is orange red too
So this is a Hindu god?
3:15 i had this dude
10:30 I saw a Knight Hospitaller before the elephant

2x head was spot on cool
Glad you liked the second head too!
What was the second head?
Called TROMPO in Spain....
:D
XD
I did not know that! Cool
@@spectorcreative1872 In Spain they translated some names, why? No idea...
For example. Thug Lashor translated it as Linguor.
I was born in 84 so I was lucky enough to be bought Trompo among others.
My father likes Peanutbutter and Mayo
I can not endorse that combo
It's a great combo! Used to love it as a kid. In the Netherlands they eat fries with peanut sauce and mayo!
Eternia style lol
Heck yeah!
The Heads of Eternia was a great idea, except some of those characters were to expensive to go after if you wanted to display both heads. Which reminds me, why did Grizzlor have a smooth chest under his fur instead of using the Beastman Furry chest?
You know, I never took off the fur so I didn't know that until you mentioned it!
Great video! Thank you! I think the best solution for Snout Spout's trunk problem is for someone on Shapeways to work up a plastic trunk made up of snap-together sections on ball-and-socket joints and sell them. Ideally, one that can be used for both Vintage and 200X heads. HINT, HINT, Shapeways stores! 😉
Also, peanut butter and chili jam is quite nice, if you want a spicy sandwich. And the new mic is great, BTW.
Hear that Shapeways! Make it happen
Peanut butter and MAYO!
That is really gross
@@spectorcreative1872 Try it.
I wouldn’t say it always backfired. Grizzlor came out great and I think you really went the extra mile for him!
