The titans appearence is also based on the shifters appearence and personality. The 3rd eyelid appears mostly in predatory Animals it can resemble Eren's merciless and murdery personality.

Humans actually have a remnant of the nictatine membrane, the pink stuff in the corner of our eyes. Its use is to keep debris and such out of the eyes, humans might have used it to keep dust out during the long hunts
Fun fact: we also have them too thats the little pink thing in the corner of our eyes however they became a redundant trait and we evolved so we cant use them anymore

This is one of those times where I think it's just a coincidence where there is a distinct glare in his eyes which is a depiction of his savagery as a Titan and not as a membrane or foreshadowing of him being a bird at the end
I think that Eren probably has the third eyelids on in Season 4 and that's why his Titan's eye look white and not green

well its good to look deep into things. but that membrane is often found on predators/scavengers. Sharks have it too. what it does is protects the eye as the head is often shoved into guts, rib cages, or where its feeding habits have a chance of injuring the eye. Because the trait of the titan is to fight it has an inherent risk of injuring the eye!
Also dont forget eren transforming into attack titan means freedom too
It's a predators trait, helps with certain activities like hunting with winds n such. Clear membrane but hard enough to help keep shit out.
Did you notice this detail in AOT, the fanbase complicates everything for no reason. On top of that, at the beginning, Sasha breathed air which was an indication that she would die later on.

I like to think that at the end, when the bird wrapped the scarf around Mikasa it was symbolizing that with Erens death hes finnaly free
If we still had this trait (although we have it), we could use it to prevent debris from getting into our eyes, but due to evolution, there's no way of bringing it back unless that depends on the environment.
That membrane exists on the human body altho no longer used by our bodies being in a less primal age you. Can see it on the edge of their eye I think it symbolizes how titans when shifted revert to a primal body and mind but have the chance of keeping important parts of their minds with will power altho effecting them when they shift back giving them a darker perception on everything coming from the primal effects causing what Erin did partially but not forgiving it

there's plenty of foreshadowing to go around, but this is more of a stretch than the plan to save the world, the characters made at the end of the show.
