RockmanSam i dug the ending of the space zone. the music, graphics and flight made me feel much like the ending of inception back then! i was so amazed, hahaha xD
thank you i was searching this game for years i always called it that mario game where he inside a bubble my friend and family thought i was crazy i started to think that this game was a dream.
This is exactly how you do a video game sequel! Super Mario Land 2 is a huge step up in terms of graphics and gameplay from the first Super Mario Land, which was very impressive for the Game Boy back in the day.
This was my very favorite gameboy game when i was a kid.... I had so much fun revisiting my favorite levels in this video! Especially the 'gak' levels as i called them (with the green goo), and the bubble, moon, and ghost levels! And of course watching the last level accomplished with only one loss of life instead of the 50-some it probably took me. I felt nervous all over again, lol! Thank you!
Dude! I haven't seen this game since I played it back on the original brick of a gameboy... 25+ years ago?! Wonderful. I skipped along through most of the play, but each time I stopped its like, oh, I remember that. Had to watch Warios castle. I remember it being absolutely savage compared to the rest of the game, and how many times I got there but then lost all my lives before beating it and had to get the coins again! But I remembered getting to Wario and that his fireballs seemed huge, so I know I got that far, but I don't remember for sure if I actually succeeded in beating him. Thanks so much for this!
@@notXxXayne If you thought it was real, then I'd say it succeeded! :) It's actually a custom video shader that comes with Retroarch. You just load up a Game Boy core, pick your game, turn the shader on, and you can play it looking just like this. The screen ghosting can be adjusted by messing with the shader's simulated LCD response time.
@@NintendoComplete I can tell you personally that I decided to watch this gameplay because of the looks. This is how I remember the game and this is the way I love it :)
Thankyou so much ...this was me frist mario we played on black and withe. Was a game boy in back days like this from video what was color a bit. I still have me old game boy but game wasn't mine. And second was a game boy but had black and withe thats was of me 2 friends. We played this game evry day after scool. We shared game boy and game becuase each of us was good a somnting in game wen played. This game is legendary like Need For Speed Most Wanted. I got rom again and keep on me phone forever and on me heart.
SML2 is a great follow-up that one-ups Super Mario Land in many ways, but why is it so easy? Wario really should have gone a bit further to thwart Mario given that this is the first game we ever see him.
I played this game on the Game Boy, Game Boy, and Game Byo Advance. While its predecessor was similar to the original Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Land 2 has more in common with Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World: there is a overworld map, the player is no longer restricted to moving only right in a stage, many stages contain higher and lower areas instead of entire stages all at a single level, and any stage (except for the introductory stage and "boss" levels) can be replayed multiple times. At the end of a level, there is a door that must be touched to clear a level. In addition, there is also a bell high above the door which, if touched, activates a mini-game where the player can try to get either a power-up or 1-ups. The game saves the player's progress after beating a stage, being the first Mario game released on a portable system to have a save feature.
This was Wario’s first appearance in the Super Mario franchise. He later got his very first game, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, which served as the first entry for the Wario Land series, then later became the president of WarioWare Inc., and the WarioWare series was made from Mega Microgame$ for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, counting all the way to Get It Together for the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
RockmanSam Here's my opinion. It could be Mario but probably because he maybe wouldn't want intruders from getting in the castle. So to avoid the traps, Mario used a safe path in the castle walls. Wario figured this out and made the castle full of traps. So it would be a challenge to use the safe path and the regular path.(this would be unlikely I didn't read the manual)
Or maybe just Mario had some average traps a human couldn't pass and he could pass easily, but when Wario took over he made the traps very deadly. (there is no safe path in this story)
its kind of funny to think that this level of graphics probably was a "challenge" to programmers back then... streaming level data. restrictions in tile variety etc... lol
Looking at this emulated gameboy screen will still keeps me wondering why nintendo never opted for a real B&W screen but instead for a spinasish screen. It was not till the gameboypocket till they come with a real B&W screen,as a result you could clearly see those highly detailed graphics in supermarioland 2 !!!
+johneygd It was a cost issue. In the late 80s LCD technology was still pretty primitive, and it was stupidly expensive. Many 80s portable computers had screens with the same issues (green, smeary, low-rez). By the mid90s the cost of manufacturing had gone way down and the quality had improved dramatically. The screen was a large part of why the GB was almost half the price of the GG.
maybe cant understand today with great games on the phone, but in early 90s you only have portable video games with static images like a stop motion with 5 frames , neverending gameplay and wirst watch beeps. bytheway: how did you get the doted pixels? like the original GB?
can you please give me a working download link? i searched on google, but i couldn't find anything useful. is this a exe file or how does it work excactly?
I played this son of a bugger so much that I got bored of beating the game over and over and over and over again. I still have mine in it's original box, but haven't touched it in probably 15 years. Not sure if it's save battery is even still alive.
Fernando La Mattina depends on the ambient temperature. the higher the less smear. i remember it being okayish over twenty, but unbearable approaching zero (celcius). the technology behind it is liquids after all so dont expect miracles.
Sam McCarthy not at all. You give up gameplay by making everything to big. The end result was they made the game too easy in order to compensate for the limited view. Enemies and bosses are a joke. There is no real challenge. The rabbit ears pale in comparison to the leaf and cape. Probably also comprised flight, due to the screen limitations as well.
Dinosaurprince i think the design is alright. its not great, but were talking about kids before their teens here, what difficulty do you expect? i remember it as a challenge and the size was perfect cinsidering the screen was small already! any smaller and you can as well punch your eyes with a brick. if anything, the design is unimaginative in places. it seems lackluster. the music is pretty cool for me, although it doesnt fit the mechanics mostly. interactive is also missing. so its good, but nothing more and nothing less. i personally remember approaching the part at 54:00 and thinking: a heart below a platform? wow, there must be a huge secret to get it! :D
This game looks stunning, I think it's a work of art.
RIP Gunpei Yokoi-san. Your legacy will always be with us.
still one of the best mario's games

Are you sure it mario. I can't really tell
It's in my top 3 of all Mario 2D jump n' runs.

This is one of the best 2D Mario games. Easily in my top 6
top 6? and the game has 6 in its name, hmm coincidence?
How many batteries i killed with that game. That was absolut awesome. And today its incredible, how good the graphic was, on this simple hardware.
Every chance I got I would take my brother’s game boy and play this game. Best game ever!

Throw battery life in the mix added jeopardy. 😆 Aaarrrghhh Noooo!
Getting rechargeable batteries was a game changer.
I think the Mario Gameboy games are the best. Super Mario land 2 gives you an idea that Nintendo was ready to release SNES console.
This is my favorite mario land game. I just absolutely love this game.
With Mario games like these today, damn.
Press 'Select' on Save Selection to enable or disable Easy Mode!
I really love the way you use filters to make it look like the real Gameboy
i think it might be real since i can see the led lagging behind a little bit (if that makes sense)
Thanks!

This was the very first game I played on the GBC I got on my fifth birthday in 2007. I sucked at it though.
The giant Mario and the House were definitely my favorite
oh my i was only 9 yrs old back the its gives me nostalgic feeling thanks.
I wish they would develop more Mario Land games. This was a really underrated sub-series.

NintendoComplete I thought it fun but challenging. I still never beat the end boss. Games that are to hard aren't any fun.
if its too hard for you then press select inside the savegame selection screen.
NintendoComplete it was and its so fun to play I like how Mario looks bigger in this one.
I only played this game in 2015 at age 23, and already I'm getting nostalgiac for this game.
It 2018 how old ar you now?
SkeletonGamer_22 I just turned 27 on May 1st. (Not sure if my previous comment is proper math, though.)

If you hold "up" on the control pad while pressing the A-Button you can do the high jump without a run up like Bunny Mario.
Nice
Loving the theme for the Macro World.

Omg my childhood 😍
this makes my phone sound like a speaker lol
This is the first game I have ever played :)
Do you know how to blur ghosting effect like the original? That would be awesome!!!
love this game :)
This Super Mario Land 2 game is from 1992, and the Nintendo Game Boy is from 1989.
You know, I've always wondered if Mario put all those traps in the castle, or if Wario did...
Good theory!! Most likely Wario since he was in control of the castle during these events and probably wanted to keep Mario out!!
RockmanSam Here's my opinion. It could be Mario but probably because he maybe wouldn't want intruders from getting in the castle. So to avoid the traps, Mario used a safe path in the castle walls.

+Fer Alejandrez It's through a game boy shader in Retroarch
NintendoComplete im more wondering about the sound. it sounds cheesy and broken like the real thing ;)
oooodaxteroooo Haha that's a sign of how accurate the emulation is! I used Gambatte to play it. Good stuff.
the first fame was so much better. this looks like a kids version
tambien puedes jugar en Super Game Boy
How did you get the Nintendo boot up screen?
I like the first one. This one has sounds making me depressed.
which programm do you playing with? which emulator?
darkdave1985 Gambatte in Retroarch. The graphics are done with the DMG shader.

does the original game boy screen actually look like these? or does it get blurry when moving?

The old Game Boy just looks so bad,
u really need to play this game on later Game Boys to truly experience the game
