    Well, with TEL coming out the way, this made journeys from the north to the city centers easier, especially those from woodlands area and its surroundings.

    What we need is a NEL equivalent in the west. A NWL lol. But developments is the North and North West has been linear during nation building years. The NSL was basically connecting the dots and linking up with the towns piece by piece hence a linear layout of the line.
    The so called Seletar Line would serve new developments in the northern most end of the island and the Seletar area and linking to the city area and the future southern waterfront.

      The equivalent of NWL is Downtown Line Phase 2 or the Bukit Timah Line

      I agree with this comment except DTL isnt really an equivalent because of how dense station stop is compared to NEL

    It’s not so much a problem of the NS line than a problem of the layout of the city around the central catchment. The Govt could build more lines cutting directly through the forest but is obliged to conduct environmental impact assessments like the one it did for the CRL which takes years. I do agree that the main solution would be to bring jobs closer to homes, which is what they are planning with the four regional districts. But it remains to be seen if the variety of jobs in each districts will be sufficient enough that ppl who live around those districts don’t need to find work in town, which you also mentioned in this video.

      Yeah, building with a hole in the centre is a big problem, a lot of cities have the centre as the heart of the city but instead Singapore has it in the south. It's good that we are protecting the environment though, just hope we can pull together a solution and compromise soon. Thank you for watching.

    A good percentage of the morning peak are students, and they have all sorts of journeys, and rarely go downtown, as there are few schools there. Imagine going from boon lay to specialist schools in the north (eg singapore sports school) without it :P

    • @ColinHexr
      @ColinHexr  4 роки тому +4

      True but after school the students might want to head downtown to chill out though.

  • @aaravyadav3748

    According to me, the Downtown Line should have interchanged with the NSL at Choa Chu Kang instead of Sungei Kadut so that it would have also interchanged the JRL as well and reduce the ride on the Bukit Panjang LRT.
    This would enable a lot of people in Jurong Region to take the Downtown Line instead of the EWL.

    • @ColinHexr
      @ColinHexr  3 роки тому +3

      Yep, the JRL will just dump people onto the stretch between CCK/JE or the LRT and buses. CCK needed to be a Dhoby Ghaut style interchange but LTA won't do it for some reason.

      @@ColinHexr Although I think this might be resolved if we trunk the services of JRL from Choa Chu Kang to Pandan Reservoir Branch which would intersect the EWL and NSL and would not dump people on the stretch between CCK and JE

    • @ColinHexr
      @ColinHexr  3 роки тому +4

    • @bakedbean12
      @bakedbean12 3 роки тому +2

      @@ColinHexr too much exciting stuff will attract people from other places up to the north, which will just increase the amount of passengers on the nsl tho, and also abt the jrl, i feel that it will spread out the load that JE is bearing cos people will take alternative interchanges on the line, and the jrl is also for the development of the tengah area, which many plans have been put out for

    • @bakedbean12
      @bakedbean12 3 роки тому

      anyway your title said that you had a solution to the problem, but nothing was said specifically about how to solve all the problems you have laid out, so if you worked in lta, what would you tell them to do? (if you could ofc)

    • @ColinHexr
      @ColinHexr  3 роки тому +3

      @@bakedbean12 I think I mentioned it but it's been a while haha. Basically I laid out that what LTA plans to do is roughly correct (connecting the NSL to DTl, plus having the TEL and the CRL), but these are way too late in the pipeline. They also planned to add more stations, which would make the problem much worse; I would do without them and possible add them later a la Canberra when the situation is much better.
      The government also needs to stop thinking Jurong will solve everything lol. They are planning as if the place will replace CBD and nobody will go downtown from the West and North, thus solving any congestion. Which is an incredibly silly notion.
      Summarily speaking: add more interchanges, more options to funnel people into downtown, and stop making the problem worse.

    • @bakedbean12
      @bakedbean12 3 роки тому +3

      @@ColinHexr honestly i think the jurong thing is quite silly, the place has so many residential plots, its quite stupid to squeeze in any offices whatsoever, but lines are quite hard to build, so solving the problem might take quite a long time. (tel 2 is coming soon tho, maybe that will funnel the passengers down to caldecott which will help the situation a bit) anyway thanks for clearing up ny doubts, wouldnt have thought you would have been replying on such an old video

    • @ColinHexr
      @ColinHexr  4 роки тому +5

      It would and it would serve the industry workers but it's not an ideal interchange... I think it would work better at Yew Tee or CCK because then residents don't have to switch... I'm imagining SK would be very crowded because everyone will get off just to ride one or two stations home.

    Why dont they just launch express trains which will skip some stops along the way so it will be faster

    • @ColinHexr
      @ColinHexr  4 роки тому +5

      This one I can answer. We only have two tracks, one going each direction. There is no way we can accomodate a third train, because it won't be able to bypass the stopping trains and we don't have the space to build the third track.

      Fun fact: They once considered express trains for the CRL but due to overcomplications to build to the signalling systems as well as a significant rise in cost, plans were deemed unfeasible.
