History of 1215KHz/247m in historic date order. 29th July 1945-30th September 1967 - BBC Light Programme 30th July 1967-23rd November 1978 - BBC Radio 1 23rd November 1978-March 1992 - BBC Radio 3 30th April 1993 12:15pm-29th September 2008 - Virgin Radio 29th September 2008-23rd January 2023 - Absolute Radio.. So that medium wave frequency has alot of history attached to it.. A very fond farewell to 247. Gone but never forgotten!
They should have put Absolute Radio 60s to replace Absolute Radio on 1215AM/247m as it's not available on national DAB & it was where the original BBC Light Programme was & there's alot of history attached to it & would be a far cry to revert back to where all the 1960's pop was originally played Just a thought ☹️😪
A Roberts R303.....my aunty Bess in Erith had one of those, it was navy blue and she never switched it off, just turned the volume down on it so it used to whisper LBC all day (on 261 metres)and night! Roberts made some of their best models with either the 'square semicircle' design or the halfmoon one.
I now heard that the Irish RTE Radio 1 is also going to close down their 252 LW station on the 14th. Try and record that assuming you can pick it up from your location.
I have recordings of some of the presenters reading the scripted shut down announcements and the songs they played where the adverts would otherwise be. I also have a hour of recording from tuesday and 30 mins from last night aswell as what I have put on UA-cam.
Ah...Memories of 1215Khz and Radio Tirana causing interference to BBC Radio 1 when listening on a portable radio on my way back from school in the 70's just as it was getting dark! 73.G7HFS/PA3IKH

Good memories as a young teen listening to Virgin Radio on my Sony DigiCube alarm clock after "bedtime"
I only just noticed that the dial is actually on 247 metres.

John Clinton has the final 2 hours of 252 LW (and 1215 MW) on his M1xcl0ud (UA-cam blocking names of other sites is really annoying).
Such a shame to leave this frequency enpty
Ofcom isn't too happy about it either
Do you have full recordings from the past few days?

@@benpickford9024 any chance you could upload them to M1xcl0ud like John Clinton did for his recordings?
You will be missed :(
