If you only listen to the audio I dare you to get the similarities to Tiff's voice, tone and vocabulary out of your head! Nice video though - great to have CAR back on UA-cam :)
JD you have brought a revived form of past automotive journalism to the fore. Which is welcome and IMO has been sadly lacking over recent years. Another well presented and informative vid. Cheers :)
Exaggerated opinion, honestly. This car handles exactly like a Huracan. And the 570S has a better chassis for sure, but the steering is light and less connected than the R8/Huracan's. Plus the 570S has ridiculous and completely unacceptable turbo lag. People just look for reasons to justify this being an Audi and not a Lamborghini.
Also, the car has to show up when you're ready to drive - which is every day for some of us. Yes, I would put 15K miles on a 570S per year, better f'ing believe it. Will it be there every day when I feel the need, or will it be on a tow truck 120 miles to the nearest dealer service? For me it's this or the 911 Turbo because I need my fix daily.
You’ll be used to naturally aspirated engines with the 991.1, but the R8’s V10 offers a big step up in performance and drama. The handling of the R8 won’t be as crisp or engaging as the 911, though, so it depends on what you’re after. If you really value a car’s engine, very few offer a better experience than the R8. For on-road handling enjoyment, there are better picks out there - see McLaren 570. Also note that the R8 will have significantly higher running costs than your 911. P.S. We’re running the R8 Spyder shown in the video as a CAR Magazine long-termer, so be sure to check out how we’re getting on with it in the mag and on the website.
Many thanks for the response, I’m a subscriber to CAR so will keep a close watch. I really like the 570 GT or Spyder but keep getting hung up on build quality and depreciation over the 911.
Great video, great car, but I have to say this. Saying that an R8 doesn't give you a "rewarding experience" because of it's suspension, comes across a bit like calling a wine "sporty, yet aggressive". What does that even mean? Going through a corner flat, but not hopping over every little bump, is the actual point. What kind of "reward" are you looking for? Not disagreeing, just not understanding what that means. It's like people saying Mclarens "aren't dramatic". They do what drivers want so badly, so well, that there's nothing to complain about, and that's called "undramatic". Imagine a girlfriend that's perfectly beautiful, cooks and cleans for you, does your laundry and goes to work while you stay home and mess with your cars and never nags you. Would you go tell your friends "there's just no drama"? Maybe, but whatever.
Great review....IMO audi screwed up the styling on this generation Audi R8...and a mild restyling would fix the sales slump....front end is too busy and the side view is too extreme in reverse airflow design from the original and it caused a sales failure in this generation.
Need that gated manual to make a come back and be RWD or at least have an option like the new M5 where you can switch it to RWD only mode. That said, would take it over the NSX by alot. The V10 is just glorious and no replacement for displacement. Audi has never made a rewarding driving experience sadly. Always about that safety net or understeer that ruins there cars. Shame
Mate its the spyder version, of course the chassis is going to be up to par with a McLaren, This is what happens when pimple popping snot nosed little highschool boys are entrusted to review cars they talk utter nonsense🚮
Being too much of a Calculated Product, it was never (and will never be) fully accepted by the petrolheads (yes, those who drive Alfa’s). Interesting, as it’s still sold in masses of course, simply by being an Audi.
Too much money for an Audi...save your dosh buy an A1 and get the same materials and info-tech.... 4x4s are for Land Rover Defenders and...people living in the Swiss Alps...other than that leave it for the sheep, cows and horses...auto-boxes are for the PlayStation lazy and those who can’t push a clutch other than that leave it for racing where every millisecond counts. Audi R8: a car that has never made any sense and never will. Doh!
Hugely successful product...multiple race winners....good job Audi... unfortunately all good things has to come to an end
Ima simple man I see Audi R8 I watch
Love it - great review of awesome albeit imperfect R8 - that sound transcends its foibles

0-62 takes just 2,8-2,9!! Amazing car...
Another great video! Well done to all those concerned.
Glad you enjoyed it!

this guy is growing on me
Great conclusion, with perspective aplenty. I like.
Thanks Denis!
"This V10 engine is a endangered species" The entire fuel engine industry is an endangered species.
Yes! More mini-Tiff! Lol
R8 and Huracan are very special super cars in these times becouse of the awesome engine.
Huracan will not be forgotten
Car is plenty fast for on road drivability for all weather conditions.

I have a 991.1 GTS which had for three years and fancy a change after a series of 911’s. Would you recommend the r8 Spyder over the 911

This jurno had to have an opinion and hence has a perspective that doesn’t make sense. Rubbish review.
The low-cost Huracan !
How much price Audi R8 Spyder 💵💵💵
Owned this car for 9 months. Left me feeling empty, great engine that was about it so I bought a performante now I feel fulfilled.
Excellent 👍
Looks mean AF.
You never put the top down!
The Gen 2 is the best. The new one with its particle filter isn’t all that
If I only had one choice.....
OMG he put a twitter platform up and not an Instagram one lol.
Why do this guy sound like jeremy clarkson

Only 140K for a brand new R8

If god made a car it would be this one.
first gen. still looks the best...this one looks awful
Even R8's have fake vents now. Smh at Audi.
We don’t care!!!
