never realized giant's and smough's were so close, could you imagine a world where smough's armour was slightly better and every giantdad was wearing smough's armour? pvp would have been even more of a nightmare seeing that lmao
A lot of people definitely pick Smough's for the nightmare visuals, if not the whole set, then just 1/2 bits to make themselves look as weird as possible
Lmao, imagine ranking armors based on stats, everyone knows fashion is the only thing that matters when it comes to armors, poise comes second and defense stat doesnt even register.
If an armor is shit i don't care how cool it looks i don't use it. But on the other hand i also dont care about the best stats if the armor looks bad. Like in ELDEN RING i don't like the end game heavy armor Bull Goat Set ... it is so dumb to make this the best armor And the games best heavy shield is just a stone tablet. ... they really dropped the bar for end game armor in ELDEN RING
Crimsom robes + Havel gauntlets + Stone helm & leggings is a good compromise I've found. Decent armor, resistances and reasonable weight. Can use another headgear for more fashion points :p
If there's anything I've learned through playing _Dark Souls Remastered_ it's that armor doesn't really matter. And then you get to NG+ and it matters even less! lul. There was a time where I ran Black Iron on every character. Then I was like, y'know, fast roll is just flat out better. That, and having Black Knight/Silver Knight/Balder Shield. Those things are indispensable.
Absolutely agree mate, armor for me has always been a way of mitigating effects of the environment. Some armors are better to deal with the fire pits of demon ruins or the poison pool of blighttown but ultimately you need to get good enough that you're not depending on armor at all.
Armor *does* kind of matter in Dark Souls 1, though. Specially if you have higher Vitality to make more use of the damage reductions over the course of your Health Bar. But it also depends. The thing about armor in DS1 is that it is more effective against lesser ARs and less effective against higher ARs. The damage calculation formulas are available on the Dark Souls WikiDot. They're a bit convoluted at first, but they start to make more sense as you dive deep into them and you start to get a better sense of how damage against defenses actually work. You have 5 different formulas, each one applying on the condition of how much the attack value is bigger than the defense value in proportion:
Excellent video.I've been watching your videos for years, and in fact, some of your lore videos were what finally gave me the push to play Dark Souls myself many years ago. I have some commentary to add. 1. It's a little dishonest to include the maxed upgraded levels of the armors when presenting their defense as if it is their default. It would be better to present the minimum and maximum upgradeable levels, and the +9 level for the sets that upgrade with regular Titanite, so base, +9, +10. And good luck getting 4 titanite slabs for even just your armor. Most players are going to only get at most 1 per playthrough, and odds are quite good they'll use it on a weapon, especially the first time around. 2. A special perk of Havel's Set is that it has infinite durability, so it never needs repair. This doesn't matter much, but it is useful in some circumstances. 3. I would have split the armors up into the categories of unupgradeable, special, heavy, medium, light. Unupgradeable are ones like Havel's and Stone, special is for armors that need twinkling titanite. Heavy, medium, and light are for their categorical weights and follow the regular upgrade path. It would save newer players some confusion. 4. Heavy armors all incur a stamina recovery penalty per piece, adding up to a -11% cumulative penalty for a full suit. This should be accounted for as it's not an insignificant factor affecting all player actions. 5. An armor I would like to mention is the Catarina Set. I would put the Catarina Set as my top pick for special armors, as it weighs only 30 units, and yet has a maximum upgraded defense of 228. This means it has medium weight yet heavy protection potential and poise. It was actually so light that during my SL1 run, I was able to, with help from Havel's Ring and the Ring Of Favor And Protection, run full Catarina + a battle ax + the Balder shield while still maintaining the medium roll. 6. Another particular armor is the Painting Guardian Set, which, when upgraded has absolutely stupefying magic defense. I actually used this on my SL1 to beat The Four Kings. 7. My personal pick for each category: Unupgradeable: Stone Set - You get it early, it has fantastic stats, and you can even midroll in it with weight to spare for a powerful weapon Special: Catarina Set - It's so absurdly minmaxy you can put it on your SL1! Heavy: Steel Set - The only heavy set that follows the standard upgrade path. You can max at 266 for 36, which is cool, but it lags hard in poise. Medium: Elite Knight Set - The best all rounder in the game. You can get it immediate and keep it very competitive through to the end. Light: Chain Set - A weird pick, but it does have strong poise, and when upgraded, gives midlevel medium set level defense. Thank you for the video.
I debated with the whole upgrade thing, because it was one of those things where I question how much extra detail to put in that might be unnesecary, right?
Just took a trip down memory lane and finished the game on docked switch. Love the og graphics and lighting with the remastered quality of life improvements. Black Iron set is still my fave set.
When i up my endurance i gonna use mask of the child +all giant armor +5,stamina regenaration stack with grass crast shield,+16 stamina since the giant set reduces by 4 not including the helmet, highest defense in the game and decent enough poise
I've always loved parts of the wanderer's set, even if they weren't fantastic armor. The Manchette and Boots looks good with a lot of things, but my favorite mix-match would be... Elite Knight Helmet, Hardened Leather Armor, and wanderer Manchette and Boots. Another favorite of mine was Thief Mask, Dingy Robes, Tattered Cloth Manchette and Eastern Pants.
Most of the powerfull armor its heavy and i hate fat roll, so i used a aestern armor for the top and the leggings, and crimson robe set for the helm and gloves... The set its pretty light and good, also stylish/badass
@@SilverMont Shiva armor or Ninja set. Shiva’s armor is pretty unique in ds1 where they do treat the leggings and glove as light armor looking at its weight compared to the chest piece and helmet which are heavy. Other sets either make it all heavy or all light. And of course there’s my armor set
Most Souls games use actors with accents close to mine. Not so Elden Ring though! That's all about the like, SWest Britain, Welsh and stuff lol. Mine's more SEast I suppose

I use chesters long coat personally it looks awesome
I have soul-glitched my way into fast roll full havel armor and tools with 85 stamina

Honestly best depends on the build you want. I did an entire run on the hard leather armor set with a great scythe and it worked out great.
There's a soul dupe glitch that lets you get max level in 1 day it's absolutely broken.

Yeah I think I would need a mod for the pc version to restore the original visuals haha, someone made one of those that looks pretty good
You can also achieve a hidden quest line which gives d’s nuts

Wanderer's is definitely one of the best for mixing and matching, as the aesthetics of it blend well with lots of others
Best video on DS1 Armor. Thanks bro
awesome thanks Silver Mont i love your vids keep on keeping on ok
Remain blue
Wanderer's is accessible early and dwarfs the competition at 9.1 total weight imo.
I've always just chosen armor in DS based on how it looks ..
Same, honestly. But if someone is struggling with the game, they might just wanna slap on Havel's and faceroll everything
Solaire's set is also amazing
If I remember correctly it has the best weight to defence ratio along with elite knight and Havel.
It's a good one!
@@FallenPhoenix72 For heavy armor, you can use the Giant's Set. You can work off the Giant Dad build, and fast roll with it.
old me would have loved this video
Agreed

Lol
Giant set with Tarkus helmet is a Gigachad look.
Nah, all I want is my onion-bro suit. Cool AF.

I kinda start to like Havel‘s Set
There’s also the elite cleric set.
You're not a cleric, are you?
No…(lies)
Black Iron gang where you at?
Hopefully not on the ground in the Painting Cathedral
I have all the armour in the game and personally my favourite is smough armor
You like the funky chunky?
@@SilverMont yes sssssssir fatboi gang

Jeez. You play with low brightness. Could barely see through darkroot garden lol

You left out ?ProtectorName?
IMO best armor is no armor and a Tower Shield.
Full jesters, baby... Lol for real though, I ALWAYS wear onion helmet. It's the best look.
You forget the most tryhard armor AKA lapps :]
This was just for the first dark souls
What makes havels so good? I mean a max giants gear is better by a lot
Off the top of my head, Havel's has more poise, although less defence. And it's easier to get and doesn't need upgrading
@@SilverMont armor is what affects poise???????
Havel's has 121 poise and 236 defence
Giant's has 91 poise and 280 defence, fully upgraded
Anyone else sick of seeing havel chest, hollow legs and mask of the mother 😂😂 then some lag and just a sprinkling of latency and BAM backstabbed 😁🤧
Absolutely. I grew sick of that back in 2012 and it's one reason I ignore PvP in these games, in particular.
